The workshop focused on developing singing techniques to improve vocal performance. The singer's coach, Mrs. Guy, taught exercises to improve posture, breathing, and treating the body like an instrument. She emphasized pulling the shoulders back and standing with feet shoulder-width apart to allow full breathing. One exercise used partners to pull an imaginary string above one's head to correct posture. The singer noticed benefits to his posture and breathing from these exercises but needs to work on maintaining proper form while singing.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Mrs guy singing workshop

Mrs Guy singing workshop
The focus in today’s workshop/rehearsal is to develop more knowledge in specific singing
techniques and methods into sounding better. Therefore my target for this workshop is to
insight myself and retain the skills I ambeing taught and apply them to future
performances, regarding singing. Firstly Mrs Guy our vocal coach/expert told us to fix our
posture, we paired into partners one person standing as tall and as straight as they can
whilst the other imagines there is a piece of string attached to that persons head pulling it
slightly, I noticed that this exercise brought my posture to another level standing even
higher than before. She explained to us that you cannot sing with your feet completely
together as you are worrying about balancing, instead you must place your feet just a bit
less than shoulder width apart and sing from the floor. Our vocal coach reiterated how
important breathing is, having our shoulders loose not tightening our chest feeling the air
flow breathing in and out. One key line that truly stuck with me that Mrs Guy said was “your
body is your instrument” this line truly hit me as it best described how your voice should be
treated, she even elaborated that if you are cold then your voice needs to warm up similarly
to an instrument and she also said that you need to take care of your voice like you would
any other instrument, after this elaboration it only made me consider that line more as
when thinking about it I considered all the comparisons made from my voice to an
instrument. A strength of mine during these exercises was understanding our vocal coaches’
comparisons and reasoning for these exercises. On the other hand though a weakness of
mine was remembering to keep my body posture in a particular position for maximum
exposure of my voice, to fix this I must be more aware of my posture repeatedly going
through it until it becomes second nature when I’m about to sing. That way I won’t freeze
and deliver the notes comfortably.
In the picture above you can that Mrs Guy our singing specialist is instructing my partner to pull the
imaginary piece of string above my head higher, as she did this I noticed straight away that my chin
was up, with my shoulders pulling back and chest out, I felt the rise in my body despite previously
thinking I was standing as tall as I could. My body position was more comfortable now feeling loose,
I tried to maintain this position when my partner let go of the string and I definitely feel it help me
when singing not having any locked or tight muscles fully able to focus on my vocal delivery.
