Ramy BenFredj attended a Horton technique dance workshop to improve strength and flexibility. The workshop included various warm ups and exercises that tested abdominal strength and body alignment. Ramy discovered strengths in maintaining upright posture but weaknesses in muscle memory and remembering sequences. To improve, Ramy will practice controlling body alignment and memorizing dances. Ramy felt progress was made in testing strengths and learning about implementing precise body alignment in movement.
Treating CrossFit Athletes - Talk For APA Sports PhysiosAntony Lo
A simple presentation about how to treat CrossFit Athletes from a Physiotherapists / Physical Therapist's point of view. Included are what CrossFit is about, what it is not, some of the effects of CrossFit, What CrossFit Coaches (and athletes) want you to know and some clinical things you can do to help these athletes.
Yoga is an old discipline from India. It is both spiritual and physical. Yoga uses breathing techniques, exercise and meditation. It helps to improve health and happiness.
Yoga is the Sanskrit word for union.
Patanjali was a pioneer of classical yoga. He defined yoga as "the cessation of the modification of the mind". (stopping changing the mind).
A person doing yoga will move from one posture (called asana) to another. For example, the "sun-salutation" contains 12 poses of asanas, one after the other, and is said to help balance body and soul. The "sun-salutation" is popularly known as "Suryanamaskar".

There are a lot of activities we engage ourselves in everyday, which we do not even know the effect it creates. If you engage in activities such as driving a car, spending hours on a computer, watch television, sit on the job, stand on the job, carry groceries and many others, then chances are there that you could develop some back pain.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Horton technique dance workshop
The focus in today’s workshop is to understand what the Horton technique is and to
improve my strength and flexibility. We worked towards technique and took part in
numerous warm ups and exercises that tested our abdominal strength and our body
alignment. In particular we stretched our bodies by straightening our back and reaching our
arms out either side whilst keeping our feet in first, firm and straight. Though our
movement we also implemented; tilts, turns and twists. I soon discovered my strengths and
weaknesses during this workshop, strengths being that I withheld my position as my upper
body power was good and I could keep firm, however my weaknesses was muscle memory,
having to remember the order in which we initiate these warm ups and also I struggled with
implementing movement. For example at one point we were asked to skip across the floor
then when hitting the middle of our skip to bounce with a straight back in the air, due to my
weakness in muscle memory and controlling body posture whilst moving I didn’t excel in
this. To ensure improvement I will keep on practicing controlling my body alignment as well
as reciting new and old dances to improve my capability in remembering dances and the
orders they come in. I feel I have made progress in this workshop as I tested my own
strengths and learnt a lot more about body alignment as it can be implemented into any
movement to look more clean, well-rehearsed and precise.
In these images you can see I’m able to hold the position testing my core and back strength,
I found these exercises rewarding as you felt it testing your muscles during and after, hence
why I made sure I kept hold of the strong posture alongside my peers.
