• Jack Ma, originally Ma Yun, (born September 10, 1964, Hangzhou, Zhejiang province,
China).
• He is the co-founder and former executive chairman of Alibaba Group, a
multinational technology conglomerate.
• He is a entrepreneur who was head of the Alibaba Group.
• He is a fourth richest person of China.
• His current net worth is $42.3 billion.
• He is 57 years old Now.

• Jack Ma was born in 1964 in Hangzhou during China’s Cultural
Revolution.
• During Revolution his family was persecuted by Communist party.
• Background characteristics are failure, rejection, fighting,
resolve, hard work, agility and vision.
• Throughout Jack Ma’s life, he has failed many times, been
rejected and called crazy.

• He began studying English at a young age by conversing with English-speakers at
Hangzhou International Hotel.
• For nine years, Ma would ride 27 km (17 miles) on his bicycle to give tourists
tours of the area to practice his English.
• He became pen pals with one of those foreigners, who nicknamed him "Jack“.
• Later in his youth, Ma struggled attending college.
• Ma failed the entrance exam for the Hangzhou Teachers College twice as his
weak point was mathematics.

• Ma attended Hangzhou Teacher's Institute (currently known as Hangzhou
Normal University) and graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in
English.

• After graduation, he became a lecturer in English and international trade
at Hangzhou Danzi University.

• He also failed his university entry exam three times.
• He was rejected by the police force and even KFC.
• He applied for Harvard Business School ten times and was rejected
each and every time.

• Relying on his English skills, Ma started a translation service
business.
• Then he visited the US as a translator where he was introduced to
the Internet.
• Without any technical knowledge of computers or coding, Ma
became interested in this new phenomenon at the time.

• In 1994, Ma heard about the Internet and also started his first company, Hangzhou Haibo
Translation Agency.
• In early 1995, he went to the US on behalf of the municipal government with colleagues who
had helped introduce him to the Internet.
• He and his friend created an "ugly" website related to China.
• He launched the website at 9:40 AM, and by 12:30 PM he had received emails from some
Chinese investors wishing to know about him.
• In April 1995, Ma and He Yibing (a computer teacher) opened the first office for China Pages,
and Ma started their second company.

States.

• Ma met his wife Zhang Ying when they were studying at Hangzhou Normal University.
• They married shortly after graduating in the late 1980s. Both began working as teachers.
• The couple later became parents to two children, a son as well as a daughter.
• According to Ma and his assistant, Ma had been studying and practicing Chinese martial arts
form.
• In 2011, Ma hired several tournament-winning Tai Chi players to teach at Alibaba. Wang, Jet
Li, and Ma teach regular classes at Alibaba.
• Ma’s vision, according to his assistant, is that one day people will remember him above all as
a Tai Chi master.
