The story behind Ma Yun to Jack Ma
I was born on 10th September 1964 in Hangzhou, China
to a poor family.
Communism was at its peak.
Everything changed for me when US President Richard
Nixon visited Hangzhou.
Started learning english at a young age.
Became a tourist guide.
That’s how I got my name JACK Ma.
My Biggest failures
Didn’t give up after failing many exams at school.
Scored 1 out of 120 points on the math portion of my
college entrance exam.
 Wasn’t deterred after being rejected from Harvard 10
times.
Stayed optimistic after being turned down for 30
jobs.
 Was the only interviewee (out of 24) rejected by
KFC.
From rags to riches
In 1994 I was amazed when I became aware about
Internet.
Travelled to United States with my friends help.
‘’BEER’’ was one of the first things that I searched
on internet.
Started a Translation business but didn’t have much
success.
CHINA PAGE as my START UP.

Education and career
I earned a degree in business administration in
1994 . Following my graduation
I taught at the University of Finance and
Economics for five years.
Later on quit teaching shortly after marrying,
and started working with my husband (who
would later run Taobao, Alibaba's eBay
reminiscent marketplace) joined Jack Ma in
founding Alibaba in September 1999.
Role and journey in Alibaba
 My early responsibilities with the company involved
managing the HR department of Alibaba, which was
created by me.
 During this period, one of my notable accomplishments
was developing the "mom and pop" model at Alibaba, in
which one "mom" focused on teamwork and motivation,
while one "pop" handled performance assessments.
 From January 2010 to February 2013, I was the CEO
of Alipay. Alipay became the most successful payment
gateway within China under my management, expanding
to over 800 million users as of 2014. As of the end of 2014,
it was valued at around $60 billion.
In 2014, I founded Ant Financial Services Group. In
September 2015, Alibaba and Ant Financial
together took a combined 40% stake in Indian
mobile wallet operator Paytm, placing Peng as a
member of its board of directors.
In 2016, Ant Financial broke the record for the
world's largest private fundraising found for an
internet company at $4.5 billion, placing the
company at an approximately $60 billion valuation.
Accomplishments
As of 2016, I was listed as the 35th most
powerful woman in the world by Forbes,
#35 on their list of Power Women for 2016,
and #17 on their list of Asia Power Women for
2016.
In 2015, I was ranked as the third richest
woman in the tech sector by Wealth-X, and
the #11 Most Powerful Woman in Asia by
Fortune.

Story of Zhang and Jack Ma
 I am the wife of Jack Ma.
 I met Jack Ma at the Hangzhou Institute ,where we were
students.
 After graduating I and Jack Ma married .
 In late 1980s I and Jack Ma both began working as teachers.
 “Jack Ma is not a handsome man, but I fell for him because he
can do so many things, where handsome men can not do,” I
said.
 After Jack Ma decided to quite his job and open his own
translation company.
 In 1995, Jack Ma started the china page, before setting up
Alibaba.
 I also quite my job to support my husband and joined
Alibaba.
 In 2002, when I was the general manger of Alibaba’s
china headquarters, my 10 year old son became
addicted to online gaming.
 Jack Ma asked me to step down as general manager
and rededicate myself as a fulltime housewife, but I
was not happy.
 As the company finally became successful Jack Ma
wanted me to go back to being a housewife.
 I start my day making breakfast and other house
chorse.
