Magnetic Resonance (MR) image is a medical image technique required enormous data to be stored and
transmitted for high quality diagnostic application. Various algorithms have been proposed to improve the
performance of the compression scheme. In this paper we extended the commonly used algorithms to image
compression and compared its performance. For an image compression technique, we have linked different
wavelet techniques using traditional mother wavelets and lifting based Cohen-Daubechies-Feauveau
wavelets with the low-pass filters of the length 9 and 7 (CDF 9/7) wavelet transform with Set Partition in
Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT) algorithm. A novel image quality index with highlighting shape of histogram
of the image targeted is introduced to assess image compression quality. The index will be used in place of
existing traditional Universal Image Quality Index (UIQI) “in one go”. It offers extra information about
the distortion between an original image and a compressed image in comparisons with UIQI. The proposed
index is designed based on modelling image compression as combinations of four major factors: loss of
correlation, luminance distortion, contrast distortion and shape distortion. This index is easy to calculate
and applicable in various image processing applications. One of our contributions is to demonstrate the
choice of mother wavelet is very important for achieving superior wavelet compression performances based
on proposed image quality indexes. Experimental results show that the proposed image quality index plays
a significantly role in the quality evaluation of image compression on the open sources “BrainWeb:
Simulated Brain Database (SBD) ”.
Multimodal Biometrics Recognition by Dimensionality Diminution MethodIJERA Editor
Multimodal biometric system utilizes two or more character modalities, e.g., face, ear, and fingerprint,
Signature, plamprint to improve the recognition accuracy of conventional unimodal methods. We propose a new
dimensionality reduction method called Dimension Diminish Projection (DDP) in this paper. DDP can not only
preserve local information by capturing the intra-modal geometry, but also extract between-class relevant
structures for classification effectively. Experimental results show that our proposed method performs better
than other algorithms including PCA, LDA and MFA.
There exists a plethora of algorithms to perform image segmentation and there are several issues related to
execution time of these algorithms. Image Segmentation is nothing but label relabeling problem under
probability framework. To estimate the label configuration, an iterative optimization scheme is
implemented to alternately carry out the maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimation and the maximum
likelihood (ML) estimations. In this paper this technique is modified in such a way so that it performs
segmentation within stipulated time period. The extensive experiments shows that the results obtained are
comparable with existing algorithms. This algorithm performs faster execution than the existing algorithm
to give automatic segmentation without any human intervention. Its result match image edges very closer to
human perception.
Learning Based Single Frame Image Super-resolution Using Fast Discrete Curvel...CSCJournals
High-resolution (HR) images play a vital role in all imaging applications as they offer more details. The images captured by the camera system are of degraded quality due to the imaging system and are low-resolution (LR) images. Image super-resolution (SR) is a process, where HR image is obtained from combining one or multiple LR images of same scene. In this paper, learning based single frame image super-resolution technique is proposed by using Fast Discrete Curvelet Transform (FDCT) coefficients. FDCT is an extension to Cartesian wavelets having anisotropic scaling with many directions and positions, which forms tight wedges. Such wedges allow FDCT to capture the smooth curves and fine edges at multiresolution level. The finer scale curvelet coefficients of LR image are learnt locally from a set of high-resolution training images. The super-resolved image is reconstructed by inverse Fast Discrete Curvelet Transform (IFDCT). This technique represents fine edges of reconstructed HR image by extrapolating the FDCT coefficients from the high-resolution training images. Experimentation based results show appropriate improvements in MSE and PSNR.
Performance Comparison of Hybrid Haar Wavelet Transform with Various Local Tr...CSCJournals
A novel image compression using hybrid Haar wavelet transform has been proposed in this paper. Hybrid wavelet transform is generated using two different orthogonal transforms. Haar transform acts as a base transform and other sinusoidal transforms like DCT, DST, Hartley and Real-DFT are paired with Haar transform to generate hybrid Haar wavelet. Among these four pairs Haar-DCT hybrid wavelet gives lower error as compared to Haar-DST, Haar-Hartley and Haar-Real-DFT. Performance of Haar-DCT hybrid wavelet is further analyzed using multi resolution hybrid wavelet and Haar-DCT hybrid transform. Experimental results show that hybrid wavelet with component size 16-16 gives lower error at higher compression ratios than multi resolution analysis and hybrid transform performance. Performance is measured using RMSE which is traditional parameter to measure error. Lowest RMSE obtained is 9.77 at compression ratio 32 using Haar-DCT Hybrid Wavelet with component size 16-16. Various other error metrics like MAE, AFCPV and SSIM are used to measure error. Lowest MAE and AFCPV are observed at compression ratio 32 are in Haar (16x16) –DCT (16x16) hybrid wavelet having values 6.86 and 0.31 respectively. When blocked SSIM is applied on 16-16 Haar-DCT hybrid wavelet it gives value 0.993 at compression ratio 32 which is closer to one indicating that good quality of compressed image is obtained.

A Quantitative Comparative Study of Analytical and Iterative Reconstruction T...CSCJournals
A special image restoration problem is the reconstruction of image from projections – a problem of immense importance in medical imaging, computed tomography and non-destructive testing of objects. This is a problem where a two – dimensional (or higher) object is reconstructed from several one –dimensional projections [1]. The reconstruction techniques are broadly classified into three categories, analytical, iterative, and statistical [2]. The comparative study among these is of great importance in the field of medical imaging. This paper aims at comparative study by analyzing quantitatively the quality of image reconstructed by analytical and iterative techniques. Projections (parallel beam type) for the reconstruction are calculated analytically by defining Shepp logan phantom head model with coverage angle ranging from 0 to ±180o with rotational increment of 2o to 10o. For iterative reconstruction coverage angle of ±90o, iteration up to 10 is used. The original image is grayscale image of size 128 X 128. The Image quality of the reconstructed image is measured by six quality measurement parameters. In this paper as analytical technique; simple back projection and filtered back projection are implemented, while as iterative; algebraic reconstruction technique is implemented. Experiment result reveals that quality of reconstructed image increase as coverage angle, and number of views increases. The processing time is one major deciding component for reconstruction. Comparison of Segmentation Algorithms and Estimation of Optimal Segmentation ...Pinaki Ranjan Sarkar
Recent advancement in sensor technology allows very high spatial resolution along with multiple spectral bands. There are many studies, which highlight that Object Based Image Analysis(OBIA) is more accurate than pixel-based classification for high resolution(< 2m) imagery. Image segmentation is a crucial step for OBIA and it is a very formidable task to estimate optimal parameters for segmentation as it does not have any unique solution. In this paper, we have studied different segmentation algorithms (both mono-scale and multi-scale) for different terrain categories and showed how the segmented output depends on upon various parameters. Later, we have introduced a novel method to estimate optimal segmentation parameters. The main objectives of this study are to highlight the effectiveness of presently available segmentation techniques on very high-resolution satellite data and to automate segmentation process. Pre-estimation of segmentation parameter is more practical and efficient in OBIA. Assessment of segmentation algorithms and estimation of segmentation parameters are examined based on the very high-resolution multi-spectral WorldView-3(0.3m, PAN sharpened) data.
Perceptual Weights Based On Local Energy For Image Quality AssessmentCSCJournals
This paper proposes an image quality metric that can effectively measure the quality of an image that correlates well with human judgment on the appearance of the image. The present work adds a new dimension to the structural approach based full-reference image quality assessment for gray scale images. The proposed method assigns more weight to the distortions present in the visual regions of interest of the reference (original) image than to the distortions present in the other regions of the image, referred to as perceptual weights. The perceptual features and their weights are computed based on the local energy modeling of the original image. The proposed model is validated using the image database provided by LIVE (Laboratory for Image & Video Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin) based on the evaluation metrics as suggested in the video quality experts group (VQEG) Phase I FR-TV test.

This paper discusses various experiments conducted on different types of Level Sets interactive segmentation techniques using Matlab software, on select images. The objective is to assess the effectiveness on specific natural images, which have complex image composition in terms of intensity, colour mix, indistinct object boundary, low contrast, etc. Besides visual assessment, measures such as Jaccard Index, Dice Coefficient and Hausdorrf Distance have been computed to assess the accuracy of these techniques, between segmented and ground truth images. This paper particularly discusses Sparse Field Matrix and Localized Region Based Active Contours, both based on Level Sets. These techniques were not found to be effective where object boundary is not very distinct and/or has low contrast with background. Also, the techniques were ineffective on such images where foreground object stretches up to the image boundary.

Abstract
Recently the digital imaging applications is increasing significantly and it leads the requirement of effective image compression techniques. Image compression removes the redundant information from an image. By using it we can able to store only the necessary information which helps to reduce the transmission bandwidth, transmission time and storage size of image. This paper proposed a new image compression technique using DCT-Biorthogonal Wavelet Transform with arithmetic coding for improvement the visual quality of an image. It is a simple technique for getting better compression results. In this new algorithm firstly Biorthogonal wavelet transform is applied and then 2D DCT-Biorthogonal wavelet transform is applied on each block of the low frequency sub band. Finally, split all values from each transformed block and arithmetic coding is applied for image compression.

QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF PIXEL-LEVEL IMAGE FUSION USING FUZZY LOGICijsc
Image fusion is to reduce uncertainty and minimize redundancy in the output while maximizing relevant information from two or more images of a scene into a single composite image that is more informative and is more suitable for visual perception or processing tasks like medical imaging, remote sensing, concealed weapon detection, weather forecasting, biometrics etc. Image fusion combines registered images to
produce a high quality fused image with spatial and spectral information. The fused image with more information will improve the performance of image analysis algorithms used in different applications. based on both subjective and objective quality metrics. The subjective quality of the compressed video
sequences is evaluated using the Double Stimulus Impairment Scale (DSIS) assessment metric while the
Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) is used for the objective evaluation. An extensive number of
experiments are conducted to study the effect of frame rate and resolution on codecs’ performance for
synthetic videos. The evaluation results show that video codecs respond in different ways to frame rate and
frame resolution change. H.264 shows superior capabilities compared to other codecs. Mean Opinion

DUAL POLYNOMIAL THRESHOLDING FOR TRANSFORM DENOISING IN APPLICATION TO LOCAL ...ijma
Thresholding operators have been used successfully for denoising signals, mostly in the wavelet domain.
These operators transform a noisy coefficient into a denoised coefficient with a mapping that depends on
signal statistics and the value of the noisy coefficient itself. This paper demonstrates that a polynomial
threshold mapping can be used for enhanced denoising of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) transform
coefficients. In particular, two polynomial threshold operators are used here to map the coefficients
obtained with the popular local pixel grouping method (LPG-PCA), which eventually improves the
denoising power of LPG-PCA. The method reduces the computational burden of LPG-PCA, by eliminating
the need for a second iteration in most cases. Quality metrics and visual assessment show the improvement.

metric Double Stimulus Impairment Scale (DSIS) is used to evaluate the subjective quality of the
compressed video sequences. The Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) metricis used for the objective
evaluation. Moreover, this work studies the effect of frame rate and resolution on the encoders’
performance. The extensive number of experiments are conducted with similar encoding configurations for
the three studied encoders. The evaluation results show that H.265/MPEG-HEVC provides superior bitrate
saving capabilities compared to H.264 and VP9. However, VP9 shows lower encoding time than
H.265/MPEG-HEVC but higher encoding time compared to H.264.

that scale reflects the orientation of local ridge. For this purpose a new scheme is proposed in which pre
calculated orientation, by using local and integration scales. From the experiments it is found the proposed
scheme is working much better in noisy environment as compared to the traditional Coherence

Comparative study of compression techniques for synthetic videosijma
We evaluate the performance of three state of the art video codecs on synthetic videos. The evaluation is
based on both subjective and objective quality metrics.
Score (MOS) results are shown for various bitrates, frame rates and frame resolutions.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF H.265/MPEG-HEVC, VP9 AND H.264/MPEGAVC VIDEO CODINGijma
This study evaluates the performance of the three latest video codecs H.265/MPEG-HEVC, H.264/MPEGAVC
and VP9. The evaluation is based on both subjective and objective quality metrics. The assessment
metric Double Stimulus Impairment Scale (DSIS) is used to evaluate the subjective quality of the
compressed video sequences.

Interactive advertising which characterized by interactivity has become the mainstream of advertising by
gradually replacing traditional one-way advertising during the new media era. This paper has obeyed the
research outline below, literature review, background description, assumption proposed, and empirical
analysis.
Therefore, this paper proposed the communication model of interactive advertising and drawn two related
important conclusions, interactivity has brought positive effect to advertising communication, different type
of consumers tend to use different interactive options in different ways. Furthermore, this paper also
presented three related optimization strategies to improving the communication of interactive advertising,
namely, 1.changing communication model from one-way to two-way, 2.renovating new communication
process and effect-generated path, 3.renovating new strategy portfolio to improving the communication
effect of interactive advertising.
Comparison of Cinepak, Intel, Microsoft Video and Indeo Codec for Video Compr...ijma
The file size and picture quality are factors to be considered for streaming, storage and transmitting videos
over networks. This work compares Cinepak, Intel, Microsoft Video and Indeo Codec for video
compression. The peak signal to noise ratio is used to compare the quality of such video compressed using
AVI codecs. The most widely used objective measurement by developers of video processing systems is
Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR). Peak Signal to Noise Ration is measured on a logarithmic scale and
depends on the mean squared error (MSE) between an original and an impaired image or video, relative to
(2n-1)2.
Previous research done regarding assessing of video quality has been mainly by the use of subjective
methods, and there is still no standard method for objective assessments. Although it has been considered
that compression might not be significant in future as storage and transmission capabilities improve, but at
low bandwidths compression makes communication possible.
An Improved Tracking Using IMU and Vision Fusion for Mobile Augmented Reality...ijma
Mobile Augmented Reality (MAR) is becoming an important cyber-physical system application given the
ubiquitous availability of mobile phones. With the need to operate in unprepared environments, accurate
and robust registration and tracking has become an important research problem to solve. In fact, when
MAR is used for tele-interactive applications involving large distances, say from an accident site to
insurance office, tracking at both the ends is desirable and further it is essential to appropriately fuse
inertial and vision sensors’ data. In this paper, we present results and discuss some insights gained in
marker-less tracking during the development of a prototype pertaining to an example use case related to
breakdown/damage assessment of a vehicle. The novelty of this paper is in bringing together different
components and modules with appropriate enhancements towards a complete working system.
Content Based Image Retrieval : Classification Using Neural Networksijma
In a content-based image retrieval system (CBIR), the main issue is to extract the image features that
effectively represent the image contents in a database. Such an extraction requires a detailed evaluation of
retrieval performance of image features. This paper presents a review of fundamental aspects of content
based image retrieval including feature extraction of color and texture features. Commonly used color
features including color moments, color histogram and color correlogram and Gabor texture are
compared. The paper reviews the increase in efficiency of image retrieval when the color and texture
features are combined. The similarity measures based on which matches are made and images are
retrieved are also discussed. For effective indexing and fast searching of images based on visual features,
neural network based pattern learning can be used to achieve effective classification.
Disparity map generation based on trapezoidal camera architecture for multi v...ijma
Visual content acquisition is a strategic functional block of any visual system. Despite its wide possibilities,
the arrangement of cameras for the acquisition of good quality visual content for use in multi-view video
remains a huge challenge. This paper presents the mathematical description of trapezoidal camera
architecture and relationships which facilitate the determination of camera position for visual content
acquisition in multi-view video, and depth map generation. The strong point of Trapezoidal Camera
Architecture is that it allows for adaptive camera topology by which points within the scene, especially the
occluded ones can be optically and geometrically viewed from several different viewpoints either on the
edge of the trapezoid or inside it. The concept of maximum independent set, trapezoid characteristics, and
the fact that the positions of cameras (with the exception of few) differ in their vertical coordinate
description could very well be used to address the issue of occlusion which continues to be a major
problem in computer vision with regards to the generation of depth map.
In this contribution, we develop an accurate and effective event detection method to detect events from a
Twitter stream, which uses visual and textual information to improve the performance of the mining
process. The method monitors a Twitter stream to pick up tweets having texts and images and stores them
into a database. This is followed by applying a mining algorithm to detect an event. The procedure starts
with detecting events based on text only by using the feature of the bag-of-words which is calculated using
the term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) method. Then it detects the event based on image
only by using visual features including histogram of oriented gradients (HOG) descriptors, grey-level cooccurrence
matrix (GLCM), and color histogram. K nearest neighbours (Knn) classification is used in the
detection. The final decision of the event detection is made based on the reliabilities of text only detection
and image only detection. The experiment result showed that the proposed method achieved high accuracy
of 0.94, comparing with 0.89 with texts only, and 0.86 with images only.
Many algorithms have been developed to find sparse representation over redundant dictionaries or
transform. This paper presents a novel method on compressive sensing (CS)-based image compression
using sparse basis on CDF9/7 wavelet transform. The measurement matrix is applied to the three levels of
wavelet transform coefficients of the input image for compressive sampling. We have used three different
measurement matrix as Gaussian matrix, Bernoulli measurement matrix and random orthogonal matrix.
The orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) and Basis Pursuit (BP) are applied to reconstruct each level of
wavelet transform separately. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method given better
quality of compressed image than existing methods in terms of proposed image quality evaluation indexes
and other objective (PSNR/UIQI/SSIM) measurements.
MR Image Compression Based on Selection of Mother Wavelet and Lifting Based W...ijma
Abstract: Primarily due to the progresses in super resolution imagery, the methods of segment-based image analysis for generating and updating geographical information are becoming more and more important. This work presents a image segmentation based on colour features with K-means clustering. The entire work is divided into two stages. First enhancement of color separation of satellite image using de correlation stretching is carried out and then the regions are grouped into a set of five classes using K-means clustering algorithm. At first, the spatial data is concentrated focused around every pixel, and at that point two separating procedures are added to smother the impact of pseudoedges. What's more, the spatial data weight is built and grouped with k-means bunching, and the regularization quality in every district is controlled by the bunching focus esteem. The exploratory results, on both reenacted and genuine datasets, demonstrate that the proposed methodology can adequately lessen the pseudoedges of the aggregate variety regularization in the level.
Image fusion can be defined as the process by which several images or some of their features
are combined together to form a fused image. Its aim is to combine maximum information
from multiple images of the same scene such that the obtained new image is more suitable for
human visual and machine perception or further image processing and analysis tasks. The
fusion of images acquired from dissimilar modalities or instrument has been successfully used
for remote sensing images. The biomedical image fusion plays an important role in analysis
towards clinical application which can support more accurate information for physician to
diagnose different diseases.
Brain Image Fusion using DWT and Laplacian Pyramid Approach and Tumor Detecti...INFOGAIN PUBLICATION
Image fusion is the process of combining important information from two or more images into a single image. The resulting image will be more enhanced than any of the input pictures. The idea of combining multiple image modalities to furnish a single, more enhanced image is well established, special fusion methods have been proposed in literature. This paper is based on image fusion using laplacian pyramid and Discreet Wavelet Transform (DWT) methods. This system uses an easy and effective algorithm for multi-focus image fusion which uses fusion rules to create fused image. Subsequently, the fused image is obtained by applying inverse discreet wavelet transform. After fused image is obtained, watershed segmentation algorithm is applied to detect the tumor part in fused image.
A common goal of the engineering field of signal processing is to reconstruct a signal from a series of sampling measurements. In general, this task is impossible because there is no way to reconstruct a signal during the times
that the signal is not measured. Nevertheless, with prior knowledge or assumptions about the signal, it turns out to
be possible to perfectly reconstruct a signal from a series of measurements. Over time, engineers have improved their understanding of which assumptions are practical and how they can be generalized. An early breakthrough in signal processing was the Nyquist–Shannon sampling theorem. It states that if the signal's highest frequency is less than half of the sampling rate, then the signal can be reconstructed perfectly. The main idea is that with prior knowledge about constraints on the signal’s frequencies, fewer samples are needed to reconstruct the signal. Sparse sampling (also known as, compressive sampling, or compressed sampling) is a signal processing technique for efficiently acquiring and reconstructing a signal, by finding solutions tounder determined linear systems. This is based on the principle that, through optimization, the sparsity of a signal can be exploited to recover it from far fewer samples than required by the Shannon-Nyquist sampling theorem. There are two conditions under which recovery is possible.[1] The first one is sparsity which requires the signal to be sparse in some domain. The second one is incoherence which is applied through the isometric property which is sufficient for sparse signals Possibility
of compressed data acquisition protocols which directly acquire just the important information Sparse sampling (CS) is a fast growing area of research. It neglects the extravagant acquisition process by measuring lesser values to reconstruct the image or signal. Sparse sampling is adopted successfully in various fields of image processing and proved its efficiency. Some of the image processing applications like face recognition, video encoding, Image encryption and reconstruction are presented here.

In the present day automation, the researchers have been using microcomputers and its allies to carryout processing of physical quantities and detection of Cholesterol in blood and bio-medical Images. The latest trend is to use FPGA counter parts, as these devices offer many advantages in comparison with Programmable devices. These devices are very fast and involve hardwired logic. FPGA are dedicated hardware for processing logic and do not have an operating system. That means that speeds can be very fast and multiple control loops can run on a single FPGA device at different rates. In this paper, an attempt is being made to develop a prototype system to sense the Cholesterol portion in MRI image using modified Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees (SHIPT) wavelets transformation and Radial Basis Function (RBF). An each stage of Cholesterol detection are displayed on LCD monitor for clear view of improved version of MRI image and to find Cholesterol area. The performance parameters have been measured in terms of Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), and Mean Square Error (MSE).

Image compression using Hybrid wavelet Transform and their Performance Compa...IJMER
Images may be worth a thousand words, but they generally occupy much more space in hard disk, or
bandwidth in a transmission system, than their proverbial counterpart. Compressing an image is significantly
different than compressing raw binary data. Of course, general purpose compression programs can be used to
compress images, but the result is less than optimal. This is because images have certain statistical properties
which can be exploited by encoders specifically designed for them. Also, some of the finer details in the image
can be sacrificed for the sake of saving a little more bandwidth or storage space. Compression is the process of
representing information in a compact form. Compression is a necessary and essential method for creating
image files with manageable and transmittable sizes. The data compression schemes can be divided into
lossless and lossy compression. In lossless compression, reconstructed image is exactly same as compressed
image. In lossy image compression, high compression ratio is achieved at the cost of some error in reconstructed
image. Lossy compression generally provides much higher compression than lossless compression.

quality of results and processing time. This comparative study introduces a comparison between
four algorithms of single image super-resolution. For fair comparison, the compared algorithms
are tested on the same dataset and same platform to show the major advantages of one over the
others.

Comparison Between Levenberg-Marquardt And Scaled Conjugate Gradient Training...CSCJournals
The Internet paved way for information sharing all over the world decades ago and its popularity for distribution of data has spread like a wildfire ever since. Data in the form of images, sounds, animations and videos is gaining users’ preference in comparison to plain text all across the globe. Despite unprecedented progress in the fields of data storage, computing speed and data transmission speed, the demands of available data and its size (due to the increase in both, quality and quantity) continue to overpower the supply of resources. One of the reasons for this may be how the uncompressed data is compressed in order to send it across the network. This paper compares the two most widely used training algorithms for multilayer perceptron (MLP) image compression – the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm and the Scaled Conjugate Gradient algorithm. We test the performance of the two training algorithms by compressing the standard test image (Lena or Lenna) in terms of accuracy and speed. Based on our results, we conclude that both algorithms were comparable in terms of speed and accuracy. However, the Levenberg- Marquardt algorithm has shown slightly better performance in terms of accuracy (as found in the average training accuracy and mean squared error), whereas the Scaled Conjugate Gradient algorithm faired better in terms of speed (as found in the average training iteration) on a simple MLP structure (2 hidden layers).

image fusion, the resultant image is more informative and
suitable for patient diagnosis. There are some fusion techniques
which are described in this paper to obtain fused image. This

One-Sample Face Recognition Using HMM Model of Fiducial AreasCSCJournals
In most real world applications, multiple image samples of individuals are not easy to collate for direct implementation of recognition or verification systems. Therefore there is a need to perform these tasks even if only one training sample per person is available. This paper describes an effective algorithm for recognition and verification with one sample image per class. It uses two dimensional discrete wavelet transform (2D DWT) to extract features from images and hidden Markov model (HMM) was used for training, recognition and classification. It was tested with a subset of the AT&T database and up to 90% correct classification (Hit) and false acceptance rate (FAR) of 0.02% was achieved.

extraction of features characterizing the tissue areas then a dimension reduction was achieved by four
different methods of discrimination and finally the classification phase was carried. We have late compared
the performance of two classifiers KNN and decision tree.
Results show the classification accuracy in some cases has reached 100%. We also found that generally the
classification accuracy increases with the dimension but stabilizes after a certain value which is
approximately d=60.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

1. INTRODUCTION
Wavelet transforms have received significant attentions in the field of signal and image
processing, because of their capability to signify and analyse more efficiently and effectively. For
image compression scheme, data can be compressed and its stored in much less memory space
than in original form.Early 1990’s many researchers have shown energetic interests in adaptive
wavelet image compression. Recently research worked on wavelet construction called lifting
scheme, has been established by Wim Sweldens and Ingrid Daubechies [1]. This construction will
be introduced as part our new algorithm. This method [2] has been shown to be more efficient in
compressing fingerprint images. The properties of wavelets are summarized by Ahuja et al. [3] to
facilitate mother wavelet selection for a chosen application. However, it was very limited in terms
of the relations between mother wavelet and outcomes of wavelet compression, which will be one
of our major contributions in this paper. The JPEG2000 standard[4] presents the result of image
compression for different mother wavelets. It can be concluded that the proper selection of
mother wavelet is one of the very important parameters of image compression. In fact, selection
of mother wavelet can seriously impact on the quality of images[5].

In this paper, we have used the technology called lifting based on CDF 9/7 and different mother
wavelet families to compress the test images by using Set Partition in Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT)
algorithm [6]. We have also proposed a new image quality index for selection of mother wavelets
and image compression over BrainWeb: Simulated Brain Database[7]. This new image quality
index with highlighting shape of histogram will be introduced to assess image qualities. The
image intensity histogram expresses a desired shape. In statistics, a histogram is a graphical
representation showing a visual impression of the data distribution. It is used to show the
frequency scattering of measurements. The total area of the histogram is equal to the number of
data. The axis is generally specified as continuous, non-overlapping intervals of brightness values.
The intervals must be adjacent and are chosen to be of the same size. A graphical representation
of image histogram displays the number of pixels for each brightness value in a digital image.
Figure 1 shows the frequency at which each grey-level occurs from 0(black) to
255(white).Histogram is given as ℎሺݎሻ =
݊
ܰൗ , where ݎ is the intensity value , ݊ is the
number of pixels in image with intensity ݎ and N is the total number of samples in the input
image respectively.
In recent years, many IQA methods have been developed. Video quality experts group (VQEG)
and International Telecommunication Union (ITU) are working for standardization [8] [9].
Laboratory for image and video engineering (LIVE) is also working for developing the objective
quality assessment of an image and video [10].
We integrate the shape of histogram into the Universal Image Quality Index metric. The index is
the fourth factor added to existing Universal Image Quality Index (UIQI) to measure the
distortion between original images and distorted images. Hence this new image quality index is a
combination of four factors. The UIQI index approach does not depend on the image being tested
and the viewing conditions of the individual observers. The targeted image is normally a distorted
image with reasonable high resolution. We will consider a large set of images and determine a
quality measurement for each of them. Image quality indexes are used to make an overall quality
assessment via the proposed new image quality index. In this paper the performance evaluation of
the proposed index and compressed image will be tested on open source “BrainWeb: Simulated
Brain Database (SBD)” .The proposed image quality index will be compared with other objective
methods. The image quality assessment has focused on the use of computational models of the
human visual system [11]. Most human vision system (HVS)-based assessment methods
transform the original and distorted images into a “perceptual representation” that takes into
account near-threshold psychophysical properties. Wang et al. [12] and [13] measured structure
based on a spatially localized measure of correlation in pixel values structural similarity (SSIM)
and in wavelet coefficients MS-SSIM. Visual signal to noise ratio (VSNR)[14] is a wavelet based
for quantifying the visual fidelity of distorted images based on recent psychophysical findings
reported by authors involving near –threshold and super threshold distortion.
This paper is structured as follows. Section 2 describes our proposed algorithm, including wavelet
logical transform, CDF 9/7 wavelet transform, the selections of mother wavelet and SPIHT
coding algorithm. Section 3 shows proposed image quality index. Section 4 demonstrates the
simulation results and discussion. Finally in Section 5, a conclusion is presented.
2. PROPOSED ALGORITHM
We first consider the FIR-based discrete transform. The input image x is fed into a ℎ෨(low pass
filter) and ݃(high pass filter) separately. The outputs of the two filters are then subsampled. The
resulting low-pass subband ݕ and high-pass subband ݕு are shown in Fig. 1. The original signal
can be reconstructed by synthesis filters h and g which take the upsampled ݕ and ݕு as inputs

Cohen-Daubechies-Feauveau 9/7(CDF 9/7) Wavelet Transform is a lifting scheme based a
wavelet transform. The lifting-based WT consists of splitting, lifting, and scaling modules and the
WT itself can be treated as prediction-error decomposition. From Fig.3 we can find that it
provides a complete spatial interpretation of WT. In Fig.3, let ܺ denote the input signal and ܺଵ
and ܺுଵ be the decomposed output signals where they are obtained through the following three
modules (A, B, and C) of lifting base inverse discrete wavelet transform (IDWT), which can be
described as below:
5. The International Journal of Multimedia & Its Applications (IJMA) Vol.6, No.2, April 2014
63
Module Splitting: In this module, the original signal ܺ is divided into two disjoint parts, i.e.,
samples ܺሺ2݊ + 1ሻ and ܺሺ2݊ሻ that denotes all odd-indexed and even-indexed and odd-
indexed samples of ܺ , respectively [17].
Module Lifting: Lifting consist of three basic steps: Split, Predict, and Updating as shown
below.
a) Split -In this stage the input signal is divided in to two disjoint sets, the odd ܺ[2݊ + 1]
and the even samples ܺ[2݊]. This splitting is also called the Lazy Wavelet transform.
b) Predict-In this stage the even samples are used to predict the odd coefficients. This
predicted value, ܲሺܺ [2݊]ሻ, is subtracted from the odd coefficients to give error in the
prediction.
݀[݊] = ܺ[2݊ + 1] − ܲሺܺ[2݊]ሻ (14)
Here ݀[݊] are also called the detailed coefficients.
c) Update-In this stage, the even coefficients are combined with ݀[݊] which are passed
through an update function, U (.) to give
]݊[ܥ = ܺ[2݊] + ܷሺ݀[݊]ሻ (15)
Module Scaling: A normalization factor is applied to ݀ሺ݊ሻ and ݏሺ݊ሻ, respectively. In the
even-indexed part ݏሺ݊ሻ is multiplied by a normalization factor Ke to produce the wavelet sub
band ܺଵ. Similarly in the odd-index part the error signal ݀ሺ݊ሻ is multiplied by ܭ to obtain
the wavelet sub band ܺுଵ .
Figure 3: The lifting-based WT [17].
The Lifting scheme of the wavelet transform Cohen-Daubechies-Feauveau wavelets with the low-
pass filters of the length 9 and 7 (CDF 9/7) goes through of four steps: two prediction operators
(‘ܽ’ and ‘ܾ’) and two update operators ሺ‘ܿ’ and ‘݀’) as shown it Figure.7.The analysis filter ℎ෨ has 9
coefficients, while the synthesis filter has 7 coefficients. Both high pass filters ݃ , ݃ ̃ have 4
vanishing moments. We chose the filter with 7 coefficients filter because it gives rises to a
smoother scaling function than the 9 coefficients one. In this fact, we run the factoring algorithm
starting from the analysis filter[1]:
ℎ෨ሺݖሻ = ℎସሺݖଶ
+ ݖିଶ
ሻ + ℎଶሺݖ + ݖିଵ
ሻ + ℎ and ℎ෨ሺݖሻ = ℎଷሺݖଶ
ሻ
The coefficients of the remainders are computed as:

ݎ = ℎ − 2ℎସℎଵ/ℎଷ
ݎଵ = ℎଶ − ℎସ − ℎସℎଵ/ℎଷ
ݏ = ℎଵ − ℎଷ − ℎଷݎ/ݎଵ
If we now let
ܽ = ℎସ/ℎଷ ≈ −1.58613432,
ܾ = ℎଷ/ݎଵ ≈ −0.05298011854,
ܿ = ݎଵ/ݏ ≈ 0.8829110762,
݀ = ݏ/ݎ ≈ 0.4435068522,
ܭ = ݎ − 2ݎଵ ≈ 1.149604398.
Since the 9/7 tape wavelet filter is symmetric we can present h and g in the z-domain .Hence, a
poly-phase matrix ܲ෨ሺݖሻ presents the filter pair ሺℎ, ݃ሻ:

Selection of Mother Wavelets-the choice of wavelets is crucial and determines the image
compression performance. The choice of wavelet functions depends on the contents and
resolution image. The best way for choosing wavelet function is based on the quality of objective
picture and the quality of subjective picture. In this paper, we have considered MR images only
and the major mother wavelets are including most popular wavelets such as Daubechies Wavelet,
Coiflets Wavelet, Biorthogonal Wavelet, Reverse Biorthogonal Wavelet , Symlets Wavelet, Morlet
Wavelet, and Discrete Mayer Wavelet. The different mother wavelets are studied on different
classes of images based on the performance measurements, including novel proposed image
quality index which are normally used for quality of images . These performances are computed
for the cases of above six mother wavelets for compressing the images of different classes.
Set Partition in Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT) [6] is the most popular image compression method.
It provides such kind of features like as the highest image quality, progressive image
transmission, fully embedded coded file, simple quantization algorithm, fast coding/decoding,
completely adaptive, lossless compression, and exact bit rate coding and error protection. It
makes use of three lists: (i) the List of Significant Pixels (LSP), (ii) List of Insignificant Pixels
(LIP) and (iii) List of Insignificant Sets (LIS). These are coefficient location lists that contain
their coordinates in this algorithm. After the initialization, the algorithm takes two stages for each
level of threshold – the sorting pass (in which lists are organized) and the refinement pass (which
does the actual progressive coding transmission). The result is showed in the form of a bit stream.
It is capable of recovering the image perfectly by coding all bits of the transform.
3. PROPOSED IMAGE QUALITY INDEX
The quality index proposed by Wang-Bovik [18] has been proven very efficient on image
distortion performance evaluation. It considers three factors for image quality measurement. They
consider two pixel gray level real-value sequences ݔ = ሼݔଵ, … … … ݔሽ and ݕ = ሼݕଵ, … … … ݕሽ.
They are obtained by the following expressions:
ߪ௫
ଶ
=
ଵ
ିଵ
∑ ሺݔ − ̅ݔሻଶ
ୀଵ , ߪ௬
ଶ
=
ଵ
ିଵ
∑ ሺݕ − ݕതሻଶ
ୀଵ , ߪ௫௬ =

ୀଵ ሺݕ − ݕതሻ
Where ̅ݔ is the mean of ,ݔ ݕത is the mean of ݕ ߪ௫
ଶ
is variance of x, ߪ௬
ଶ
is variance of y and ߪ௫௬ is the
covariance of x, y
Then, we can compute a quality factor, Q:
ܳ =

Q can be decomposed into three components as

66
In equation (20), the first component is the correlation coefficient between ݔ and ݕ, which
measures the degree of linear correlation between ݔ and .ݕ The second component measures how
close the mean luminance is between ݔ and .ݕ The third component measures how similar the
contrasts of the images are as ߪ௫ and ߪ௬ can be viewed as estimation of the contrasts of ݔ and .ݕ
Hence, we have three components for a quality factor, Q which can be rewrite as:
ܳ = ܿ݊݅ݐ݈ܽ݁ݎݎ ∙ ݈݁ܿ݊ܽ݊݅݉ݑ ∙ ܿݐݏܽݎݐ݊
The values of the three components are in the range of [0, 1]. Therefore, the quality metric is
normalized between[0, 1].
Besides these three factors, many studies show that in human visual system (HVS), histogram of
image information plays a very important role, when human subjective judges the quality of an
image. It does work by redistributing the gray-levels of the input image by using its probability
distribution function. Although its preserves the brightness in the output image with a significant
contrast enhancement. It may produce images which do not look as natural as the input ones. To
take the advantages of known characteristics of human perception, we introduce the shape of
histogram with the Universal Image Quality Index metric. This proposed image quality of index
will be tested throughout standard database of images.
We use the statistical differences to develop a novel image quality index. To find out the shape of
histogram from distorted image, we computed its kurtosis and skewness. Skewness, indicating a
degree of asymmetry of a histogram, is given by the following equation:
ܭௌ௪௦௦ =
∑ ሺ௬ି௬തሻయ
సభ
ሺିଵሻ௦య ` (21)
Kurtosis quantifies a degree of histogram peakiness and tail weight. That is, data sets with high
kurtosis tend to have a distinct peak near the mean and have a heavy tail. Data sets with low
kurtosis tend to have a flat top near the mean. It can be described by the following equation
ܭ௨௧௦௦ =
∑ ሺ௬ି௬തሻర
సభ
ሺିଵሻ௦ర (22)
The formula for modified skewness is:
ܭௌ௬ ௌ௪௦௦ =
∑ |௬ି௬ത|య
సభ
|ିଵ|௦య (23)
where ݊ is the number of pixels at image distortion value ݕ, ݕത is the mean value of image
distortion, ݏ is the standard deviation.
The proposed new image quality index Q can be expressed by the four components as below:
ܳ =
ఙೣ
ఙೣఙ
∙
ଶ௫̅௬ത
ሺ௫̅మା௬തమሻ
∙
ଶఙೣఙ
൫ఙೣ
మାఙ
మ൯
.
ଶೣ
ೣ
మା
మ (24)
The 4th
component in the above equation measures how similar the shape of histogram of the
images is. As ܭ௫ and ܭ௬ can be viewed as estimation of the shape of ݔ and ,ݕ the values of the
four components is normalized so this is still in the range of [0, 1]. The value of ܭ௫ and ܭ௬ are
computed into three different way using equation (21), (22) & (23). Therefore the Q can be
expressed by the following four factors:
9. The International Journal of Multimedia & Its Applications (IJMA) Vol.6, No.2, April 2014
67
ܳ = ܿ݊݅ݐ݈ܽ݁ݎݎ ∙ ݈݁ܿ݊ܽ݊݅݉ݑ ∙ ܿݐݏܽݎݐ݊ ∙ ݏℎܽ݁
The new quality index will be applied to local regions using a sliding window for objective image
quality analysis. For example starting from the top-left corner of the image, a sliding window
with the size of ܤ × ܤ is moving pixel by pixel horizontally and then vertically through all
pixels of the image. We assume that at the position of ሺ݅, ݆ሻ in the target image, the local quality
index ܳ can be computed as equation (25). Here, the row number and column number of the
image are ݊ and ݉, then the overall normalized quality index is:
ܳ =

The overall performance of the proposed image quality index is based on shape of histogram
with UIQI [18] can be further described in Figure 6. In order to show the efficiency of this image

4. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
For the simplicity, we have chosen MR images size 512x512 (grayscale) from BrainWeb:
Simulated Brain Database (SBD) (Fig.17(a) as an example with specifications T1 AI msles2
1mm pn3 rf20). The algorithms and proposed image quality index are implemented in MATLAB.
In our experiment, we have used mother wavelet families: Haar Wavelet (HW), Daubechies (db),
Symlets (Sym), Coiflets (Coif), Biorthogonal (bior), Reverse Biorthogonal (rbior) & discrete
Meyer (dmey). The quality of compressed image depends on the number of decompositions. We
have used 3rd
level decomposition for these experiments.
The proposed image quality index metric is generally competitive with the image compression
over the Simulated Brain Database (SBD). Here, the four metrics, peak signal to noise ratio
(PSNR), VSNR [14], UIQI [18], structural similarly(SSIM) [8], , were applied .The results of
PSNR, VSNR, SSIM , UIQI were computed using their default implementation. Table 1-5, have
shown the simulation results of our proposed image quality index and other IQA methods. We
consider three different cases such as image quality index Q (Skewness) for shape of histogram
using skewness equation (21), image quality index Q (Abs-Skewness) for shape of histogram
using absolute skewness equation (23), and image quality index Q (Kurtosis) for shape of
histogram using kurtosis equation (22). It can be seen that the proposed method performs quite
well for image compression with selection of mother wavelet by image quality indexes.

To show the performance for the better selection of wavelet with SPIHT, we made a comparison
in terms of highest values of image quality by proposed image quality indexes and other IQA
methods represented in Fig.17. We have seen our compression technique found good result
compressed image quality and also achieve higher compression ratio for MR images. We are
deeply investigated into the Table 1-5 and Figures 7-16, the lifting based wavelet transforms
produced high PSNR around 97dB and high compression ratio 88% and proposed image quality
index ,Q (Kurtosis) value 0.9887, Q (Skewness) value 0.9887 & Q (Abs-Skewness) value 0.9827
which keeps the image quality well. The overall performance of different mother wavelets has
shown in this experiment produced highest PSNR around 46.4341dB and compression ratio 38.58
% produced by Biorthogonal 3.1. We have seen lifting based CDF 9/7 coupled with SPIHT is a
better choice for wavelet image compression.CDF9/7 has the highest PSNR, VSNR SSIM value
and highest value of proposed image quality index because of the filters was subsampled and thus
avoids computing samples that was subsampled immediately .Lifting is only one idea is a whole
tool bag of methods to improve the speed of fast wavelet transform. From the above discussion,
it is evident the lifting based wavelets outperform the traditional or mother wavelets. This
compression technique can save time in medical image transmission and achieving process. So
this simple and efficient compression technique an proposed image quality index can very useful
in the field of medical image processing and transmission.
Figure.17 Compressing of MR image with different mother wavelet and SPIHT coding compare
the highest value of PSNR, Q(Kurtosis), Q(Skewness) & Q(Abs-Skewness) and Compression
ratio as seen in Table 1,2,3,4,5 and show the best wavelet for image compression in Table 6 .

5. CONCLUSIONS
In this paper, a comparative study of different wavelet families and lifting based CDF 9/7 with
SPIHT on the basis of MR images has been done with new image quality index and other IQAs,
as well as compression ratio. The simulated results have given the choice of optimal wavelet for
image compression. The effects of lifting based CDF 9/7 wavelet transform and traditional
mother wavelets, Haar, Daubechies, Symlets, Coiflets, Biorthogonal and Reverse Biorthogonal
wavelet, Discrete meyer wavelet families together with SPIHT on BrainWeb: Simulated Brain
Database (SBD) . We comprehensively analysed the effects for a wide range of different mother
wavelets family and lifting based CDF9/7. We found that lifting based CDF 9/7 wavelet
provided better compression performance for the BrainWeb: Simulated Brain Database (SBD). It
has produced as high PSNR as around 97dB, as high compression ratio as 88%, and and proposed
image quality index ,Q (Kurtosis) value 0.9887, Q (Skewness) value 0.9887 & Q (Abs-Skewness)
value 0.9827 which keeps the image quality quite well. The wavelet Biorthogonal 3.1 with
SPIHT also provided competitive compression performance with and proposed image quality
index ,Q (Kurtosis) value 0.9343, Q (Skewness) value 0.9343& Q (Abs-Skewness) value 0.9239.
Thus, we conclude that the “best wavelet” choice of wavelet in image compression depend on the
image content and satisfactory results of proposed image quality index ,Q (Kurtosis) , Q
(Skewness) & Q (Abs-Skewness) as well as compressed image quality.
