This document discusses MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). It defines a MOOC as an online course with unlimited participation and open access via the web, including videos, readings, problem sets, and interactive forums. MOOCs allow students to obtain degrees and certificates completely online at their own pace without tracking attendance. There are different types of MOOCs including network-based, content-based, and task-based. MOOCs promote collaborative online learning and interaction. Over 1000 people register for MOOCs each year to save time while pursuing other courses simultaneously. The presenter would enroll in a content-based MOOC due to its basic video and material format with automated testing and prescribed curriculum.
