MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) began with the development of connectivism in the early 2000s. The first MOOC was offered in 2008. MOOCs are free online courses that are accessible to students worldwide. There are three main types of MOOCs: network-based focus on connecting learners, task-based emphasize skills through assignments, and content-based focus on acquiring information through lectures and testing. MOOCs provide advantages like low costs, flexibility, and access to expert instructors, but also disadvantages such as limited engagement, technical issues, and lack of accountability.
