I would like to talk about a leadership crisis in which I was involved and this all started with
my personal work, I do real estates for a living and by that time I was starting small as any
body else, the thing is that as part of the Asociación Mexicana de profesionales
inmobiliarios- I was invited to participate on a 3 day event called Expo Canadevi in which
they select certain Construction companies and Realtors and they put their stands in some
sort of way such as a fair, the event is open for the public and every year at least six
thousand people is expected to come. Imagine how big that project it is and we had the
chance to participate, so almost one month before we received the invitation to present the
very first of our product and we had to come up with multiple ideas on how to set a stall and
the visual material, everything regarding a fair. So we had no time to spare and began
working on that project, nobody had ever participated in an event such as that so I took the
lead and design the display of the stall and finally I choose to build a prototype of the house
model for people to get to know the house without transporting them to the location, on the
other hand I develop the presentation cards, the ballouts, and free trinkets to give away
everything regarding my company. The things complicated because there was no time left,
we could not waste any day off and beside we had to keep building the real project, so we
spent day and nights working on the presentation for the event day. I recall printing the
models, images, creating a video for publicity purpose all in 3 weeks, even from the easiest
task I Had to work it alone, such as getting the tables and chair for the audience, we put our
hands on and finished on time as scheduled but when the day came we never thought that
it would be the hardest part, lots of people were coming to visit and we were outnumbered
by the visitor, because my little team could not withstand such many people, even though I
was there working hand to hand with my team I had to change the strategy and the
approach on how to contact people. Instead of having individual sessions as used I began
giving away the presents under the condition that they should register for our company,
thus I created a form that could easily fulfill our need.
2. I made a change in the roles to create a system that could let us have time to work with
every customer in a particular order, we had a waiting time distraction activity, then they
would go to the next stage where they were debriefed with the information and finally were
moved to a line in which they should fill our survey to understand their needs. Finally what
I found the most satisfying was the idea that everything was designed by me, every single
step I was in charge worked and we had to re arrange at the given time to make it more
efficient due the circumstances, to be clear I even had to haul the tables in my back at the
beginning and end of the event, the stress levels were at its finest but whenever something
was finished I felt that relief and satisfaction for what was done.
