1. Research – Clients, existing products, audience, how

I researched the client deeply, I did this by doing secondary and primary research on the client, there are 3 clients which
are the; BBC, BBC Three and the Northern Voices as they have all partnered up to create a scheme. From researching the
BBC and the Northern Voices I know what the usual target audience is for the BBC and how hey schedule their
documentaries and programs, I know that after a certain time they start to put more serious documentaries on their
schedule, this is because the older children will be getting back from school at that point.
I have researched into documentaries, one is by the BBC and is called Uncovering Rape Culture, the rest is the Pamela
Anderson ‘A Love Story’. From researching these documentaries, I know how to apply talking heads in a document and I
know how to set a script and story board for a documentary so the story flows with ease and doesn’t feel forced. From
reaching into the clients for this project, I have found out many things one of the main one is finding out more about the
BBC Three, this is my main client for this projects they have many rules and regulations to their a scheduling of their work
like I said before.
2. Audience (Target audience, research)
With the target audience I know that the target audience for this project is 16-24 year
olds within the region. I gathered both secondary and primary research on the target
audience as I used information on what was given to me online for the campaign and
on the brief but I also used surveys and questionnaires and focus groups to get my
own interpretation and specifics into the target audience. On the survey I was asking
questions on how old they are and the most used apps on their phone and their
screentime, this was to get a feel on what direction to go with social media in the
documentary. After this I did the focus group, this was to get more into the specifics
with a group of people who fit the target audience, I asked questions about their
hobbies and how they use social media the most and music with social media,
communication etc, I did this as at this point I knew the direction I wanted to go after
my creative and logistic pre production.
3. Drafts and experimentation of work
I did experimentation with my work during the editing process
as I had to choose how to lay every scene out. I also had to
decide whether to put text and in what colour and font, you
had to choose a stylistic way of making everything flow instead
of it being choppy, with the text I did at first choose the
colourful option but after thinking IO decided to go something
more simple as it fits the documentary and would be random if
it was colourful and neon and hard to see.
4. Final Products
For my final product, I have analysed my documentary, this was helpful as it helped me know what
I need to do better next year and on my next project. It allows me to see what are my weaknesses
and strength in editing and planning etc. This helps me with self critic and being more aware next
time when I have a project what I need to spend more time on to organise my time wisely and to
practice more. When making my final product I tired to edit the best that I could but because of my
lack of experience editing videos I could’ve done better, I know to practice my editing skills on
Adobe so I can achieve what I imagine for my project next time rather than settling for what I'm
comfortable with doing, this allows me to go out of the box and having better and bigger ideas that
are different from the rest of the competition. When analysing my work I regularly linked it back to
the brief so I know that it would fit the brief and to make my project fitting with the brief and
getting in the habit of doing that so I don’t go off the brief rules. While making and analysing my
project I paid attention to my target audience and the brief and this would impact that whether it
was negative or positive, this was to remind myself that even though I do have options I have a
certain style and point that I need my project to fit, it helped me to have a guide on styles and
sometimes inspired me to do a different style than usual. Personally, I am proud of my final piece
as it is the fist project when I have used Adobe and as a beginner I learnt many new things, I learn
the skill of how to set the project out in a manner so everything flows and makes sense. I stuck
with the brief while having my own style, I liked how I touched many different sub genres of the
impact of social media, keeping it original as many people were only doing one subject. I did the
experimentations and drafts for my final piece and this was good as it gave me skills with adobe
while giving me a better idea and stylistic choices. The improvements I could make is to make it
more complex, the documentary could be deemed as boring as I didn’t have the skills or time to do
many different cut off scenes or colours etc. I wanted the documentary to fit the brief most
importantly so I need to manage my time better next time. The skills I have developed during my
time of making this project is my editing skills and organisational skills in terms of organising my
interviews etc.
