2. Evaluation Overview
This evaluation form is designed to assist you in the evaluation of your projects.
When using this form it is good practice to:
• Use appropriate terminology.
• Stay concise and focus on key points.
• Evaluate and analyse your statements.
• Focus on judgements about work rather than telling a story of how it was made.
Please find the grading matrix here to help you assess you are working at the right level.

3. Project Overview
In this section you will outline the aim of the project/task and give an
overview of the activates you undertook to complete it.
4. What was the theme of your project and
what attracted you to it?
We chose the future as our theme as our demographic is the future
generation and they care a lot about issues of the future, the main one being
climate change, issues with the environment and political views. When
looking at these issues and what social media’s there are to support the
issues there are barley any, we saw a gap and thought it would be a good
opportunity to make something different. Also, the idea that people can
meet people like them and talk about issues that are important to them is
important to me as not a lot of people are educated on the topic and need to
be. This app also has a tinder like swiping feature so people can meet each
other/ make friends. During the pandemic, a lot of people have been lonely,
and this could be a way for them to reach out again. It also serves as a way
for people to meet each other with similar interests and provides a safe
place to do so.
5. What research did you undertake and how
did it help develop your project?
We looked at existing products from Twitter to Tv shows like Love
Island as we thought they fit our demographic of 18-24. we also
researched posters to get an idea of what ours could look like/ to take
inspiration from. Looking at these products we were able to deduct
what would work best from colour schemes to layouts. These helped
with laying out our website that Jess made. We also did research into
what the most popular colours were with the demographic and from
that created our own custom colour palette which you can see on our
website and promotional video. We chose this particular palette as it
seemed the most appropriate.
6. How did you develop and improve your ideas
throughout the project?
He first we had to revise was the logo, I had originally thought of doing
the globe with hands underneath it but when I actually made it, it
didn’t look right at all, so I changed it to just the globe which I think
looks a lot better and looks more modern. We also realized the
background didn’t look the best, so Nathan made a new one which
revamped the website and gave it an edgier look. One of the bigger
changes we made was our website as a whole, I had originally made a
website that was a before launch website, so it included the date it was
releasing, an email subscription and our Instagram. The reason we
didn’t take it any further was due to me being off and the rest of my
group not having access to it and when I got back, they had created a
new and better one.
7. What was the outcome of the project/task?
The outcome of the task was a website that included a schedule of
events, information about the group and what we do, a logo, stats from
our app and blog. All these elements add up to create a flawless
website that shows what we do and how we do it. I created an
animation that shows a person alone and then after using the app they
go to a protest. I did this because it shows exactly what the app can do
and how it can impact people and bring them together. It also
demonstrates our beliefs and what we stand for. The film ad we made
shows a person walking alone looking sad then an ad for the grid shows
up on her phone and she walks away smiling. This ad shows the apps
ability to create a sense of community and it help with create
friendships.
8. Personal Response
This section will explore your thoughts and feelings about the
experience. This will help gain a understand of how your personal
feelings may have impacted the final outcome.
9. How did you feel about the project before
you started?
I was excited about it, it’s a new project that can show my skills. It also
replaced the client project which I was quite nervous, so I was happy it
got replaced. The idea of the project itself wasn’t that appealing but
working in a group and developing skills towards something that will
help me get my grade for university made it not so bad.
10. What do you think about your project development and
how did it help you to refine your idea?
I think the overall development really helped with the project, the
audience research made the project, it chose the colour scheme, we
looked at what colours each age group liked most and from that we
made serval combinations of colours. We settled on a white black and
red colour scheme as it matched our idea best. It helped us produce
the idea itself, we knew that from general experience that people our
age care about the environment and political issues that cause others
to suffer so we decided to make an app where people with these
beliefs can meet, talk and make friends. It helped layout the website,
from researching posters we got good ideas for what could look good
on our website.
11. Did you collaborate on your project or engage
contributors, etc?
No, there wasn’t really any collaboration, but we did work in a group,
we collectively made a research PowerPoint and did our own products
to add to the project.
12. How did you feel when the project was
completed and why?
I felt relieved knowing I was done because I could begin work on
my FMP and also, I was relieved I didn’t have to do the project
anymore, as good as it was to further my skills, it wasn’t my favorite
project, and it did drag out a bit.
13. Evaluating the project
In the previous sections, you have been commenting upon the project development. The
evaluation may include some similar information but it will also include critical comment.
An evaluation must include information about the good and bad points of the project and it
is important to be honest. Finally, you should make a judgment about the effectiveness of
the success of the project
14. What were the good points about the project/task and what did you
learn from them? [try and think of at least 3, more if possible]
• Creating my animation. I got to further my skills in animation and
drawing which is pretty important for the degree I want to do.
• The research into audience, in the past in haven't done as much as I
could with audience research and as a result hindered my grade., so
it was good to finally get taught how to do it.
• Working in a group setting. Throughout the course I haven't really
worked in a group, this is quite important as in media you generally
work with other people so its detrimental that I get used to working
in groups. This project definitely helped with gaining my confidence
to work in a group.
15. What challenges did you face and how did you
respond to them? Try and think of at least 3...
• The first thing was my lack of audience research knowledge, I didn’t really know
what I was doing, it was only when it was explained to me, I got what I was doing.
• I had quite a bit of time off of college due to being ill, this made progressing a
bit difficult as I'd come back to new work to catch up on as well as my own work
to catch up on. I did get it all done through and it didn’t end up really being an
issue in the end as I completed all my work on time.
• Wix not working, when Jess was trying to do the website there was a few times
that the website didn’t work and left her with nothing to do, this was an issue
as it was her part of project and it would have hindered her grade had it worked,
obviously it wasn’t her fault, rather Wix, I just felt bad that she had a whole day
wasted of production because the website wasn’t working. It did work the next
day which was fine, but it still continues to be an issue.
16. What were the negative points about the
experience, and what could you have done to
improve them?
There wasn’t many of them thankfully but the few that there were
not a big deal, the first one was time management. The media we
needed for parts of the project like the pictures on Jess's website and
Nathan's video ad took longer than expected to get due to not having
correct equipment and having to retake footage and photos.
17. How would you rate the final piece? [think along the lines of
poor, satisfactory, good or excellent...justify your rating]
I think it's great if I'm honest, the work we did is very good in my
opinion, I'm not that happy with mine a I think I could've added more
animation with the crowd and I could've added a hand lifting the
phone. This might have made it more realistic and added more depth
to the animation and I will take this into consideration in my next
project. Also, I wish I had taken more time with the bedroom
background as it's kind of messy and not my best work. Other than
that, the rest of the work is good. The website is really well thought-out
and shows what we do and who we are. The ad also demonstrates
what we do and how it can impact lives.
18. What is your opinion of your final piece? What
elements do you think are successful and why?
I'm happy with my final piece, it gets across the message that I wanted
which is the important thing, it makes people interested in what it
could be about, it makes people curious, so they look it up. This is
successful because it will get people to recognize our company. I'm also
happy with how the animation came out, especially the protest. I'm
really happy with the way it looks and the characters I drew.
19. How well did your project apply the characteristics
and conventions of the medium you worked in?
I think I applied some of the basic characteristics, I included movement
with the phone and audio. I don’t think I applied them as well as
they do in other animations, I think I could've added more movement
especially with the protest. It looks stagnant and doesn’t really match
the audio used.
20. How did your design appeal to your target
audience?
I made my animation easy to follow, I didn’t include a load points in
order to keep the message clear. I also kept it short as people our age
don’t have the best attention span and tend to be impatient. I also
made it so it didn’t reveal everything, I wanted to show what we do
briefly so it got people interested and made them want to search it up.
21. Analysis
In this section, you will focus on the details of the project and make
sense of what happened in the project. You should demonstrate how
your decisions informed the project development and the success of the
outcome.
22. In what ways was the overall project a
success?
According to my feedback:
• It was very well animated and well-designed piece, I liked the
stylistic approach it was very consistent among each frame, it
convey true artistic capability and was a nice, short, easy watch,
accessible to many demographics.
• It was an easy art style to look at and it was animated smoothly, the
logo was simple yet effective, all in all, a good piece to put out.
23. What elements did not go well and why?
I don’t think anything went massively wrong if I'm honest, there might
have been things in the moment that went wrong like my iPad dying
but other than that fortunately everything went according to plan.
24. How did your skills develop during the portfolio? [remember,
skills aren't just technical, remember things like organisation,
time management, communication, etc as well]
One the main ones and the overall objective of the project was getting
actually decent information from the audience and being able to use
the right way and then being able to create a substantial project.
We also did really well with communication, we all knew what we were
doing, we could come to each for help or feedback, and we all got done
what we needed in time which is the most important thing. By doing
this is definitely set me up for a working environment, I didn’t initially
know a lot about my groupmates but from it I have gained 2 substantial
friends. Hopefully, this will transfer to the work environment I will be in
and be able to at least get on well with my future co-workers.
25. What meaning and messages did you want to
convey and were you successful?
The whole project centered around reaching an audience that wanted
to help the environment and think we did that pretty successfully. On
our website we featured a timetable of upcoming events, we also
concepted an app that would allow people to meet likeminded people.
For my part of the project, I made an animation displayed what a
meetup from our app could look like, it displayed what our message
was, and I think it would've been really effective if real.
26. What would you do differently in the future
and why?
I would probably make my animation more detailed and made the
characters movement more complex like making their arms move,
blinking or their mouths moving etc. I would do this because the image
I'm talking about is still with a talking track over it, while I love the art, I
don’t think it's my best work, there was a lot I could've done with it, I
either didn’t have enough time or I just don’t have the skill set to be
able to achieve my vision.
27. Action Plan
This section will identify what you would do differently in the future and
identify ways you could develop.
28. If you were making a similar project in the
future, what would you do differently?
I think I would try to make the animation at a better standard, like I've
said I wish I'd done the backgrounds better and added more animation.
I really think they would have elevated the work and I now know for
the future what will look best and how it will affect my work. Another
thing I'd do differently is planning. I think I could've planned it a bit
better, the storyboard I did is kind of scrawled and messy and doesn’t
have colour. In the future I will pay more attention to how my planning
looks and try and make it the best it can be.
29. What personal attributes could you develop to
ensure you are working at a professional level?
• I could improve my animating skills so I'm able to animate hands and
people better.
• Leading on from that I could improve my art skills, more specifically
when it comes to drawing humans as I'm not that great at drawing
humans.
• I could manage my time better; I do get the work done but I tend to
procrastinate and leave it to the last minute which isnt ideal and
means I cant get the help I need if I get stuck.
