extract to answer questions on. Art this week is focused on the theme
‘all about you’! Today you will be giving me an insight into your
favourite things.

Today you will read an extract from another one of my
favourite books: ‘Bubble Boy’ by Stewart Foster. This is a
brilliant book and shows the struggles that people who are
ill have to go through.
If you have read the book before, go into it imagining you
have not seen it before!
If you haven’t seen it before, I hope you enjoy it and maybe
you could read it in the future.

1. Range of answers – sensible prediction that uses the title and
front cover to inform answer.
2. Joe is not allowed outside because of his illness.
3. Possible answers:
• He has a ‘bubble’ to protect himself from the germs around him
• He lives a life inside a protective bubble (his hospital room)
4. Pupil response – Amir working in the hospital and prediction of his
involvement in the story.

5. They have to wear overall as to not contaminate the room with
outside germs. Protects Joe and his health.
6. As Beth says ‘when you’re older’ and there is no guarantee that Joe
will survive until he is old enough to get a tattoo.
7. The use of ‘I’ in the story tells you that the narrator is Joe and he is
telling the story from his perspective.
8. Inverted commas, comma, question mark, full stop, hyphen,
apostrophe, exclamation mark, ellipsis.
9. Nothing’s is a contracted form of ‘nothing has’.
