This document provides guidance on making predictions based on clues from pictures or illustrations. It discusses how to make predictions in 3 steps: 1) Observe the clues or pictures, 2) Use your own experiences and background knowledge, and 3) Combine these to make a relevant prediction. Several examples are provided of predicting stories based on book covers. Students are then guided through practice making predictions and evaluating different predictions. 9. PREDICTION is a GUESS you make using text or

In making predictions, we need to do two
things;
First, we need to use the clues in the pictures
Second, we may use our own experiences or
simply what we know about it.
If these two are combined, we can make
relevant predictions about the book cover.

chosen and drawn to express the main idea and
interesting part of the story.
