Assalamu alaikum warahmatullah.
I have been asked to shed some light on Islam as a peaceful religion. In view of the
shortage of time, I can only address this subject briefly.
Whenever one wishes to speak about Islam as a religion of peace, the question
naturally springs to mind that whereas there are so many religions in the world such
as Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc., when it comes to finding out
whether Islam is a religion of peace, why should Islam be the odd one out?
One reason for this is that a few years after the beginning of Islam, anti-Islamic
powers began a propaganda that Islam is a religion of extremism and violence and
wants to compel others into belief by means of the sword. This, of course, is
incorrect. In the beginning, the Muslims of Makkah suffered persecution but they
remained silent. Finally, they migrated to Madinah but there too the disbelievers
hounded the Muslims and forced upon them a battle to which I will revert later. The
proof against those opponents who allege that Islam was spread by the sword is that
although the disbelievers of Makkah raised all sorts of objections, yet history stands
witness to the fact that the people of Makkah themselves never complained that the
Muslims had used the sword against the disbelievers to compel them to change their
faith.

This presentation on globalization among others discusses the nature and differences that exist between the modern and Muslim concepts of globalization. Since it is not possible for the Muslims to live in total isolation from the things that are happening in a globalized world, they can at least come up with a strategic plan in how to position themselves in dealing with the issues and problems related to globalization. Besides that, this presentation also highlights the ideal scenario that should be prevalent in the Muslim world that can be beneficial for the Muslims as well as for others who share the space with them in this world. In realizing how the internet and social media have been wrongfully used in a globalized world, the presenters suggest on how the Muslims can use them in a productive and ethical manner. The last thing that this presentation intends to highlight is the philosophy of co-existence which should be given due consideration by people of different civilizations that live on this planet. It is the conviction of the presenters that people of different civilizations can learn all that are positive from one another and can live in peace and harmony.

It also connotes active discrimination against these groups or individuals within them with due process of law or without it

WHAT IS AHMADIYYAT?
Ahmadiyyat is a sect of Islam and not a new religion. Ahmadiyyat is a movement, entirely within the fold of Islam, meant to revive its true spirit and philosophy, to cleanse Islam of all superstitious and unnecessary beliefs and customs which had crept in over the past fourteen centuries, and, finally, to preach the religion of Islam to non-Muslims with the enthusiasm and zeal of the early Muslims.
The Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam was founded by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, India, in 1889. The followers of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad believe that he is the same Messiah and Mahdi whose coming was foretold by the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and was eagerly awaited by all Muslims. His followers call themselves Ahmadi Muslims, only to differentiate themselves from members of other Islamic sects, and strictly follow the orthodox religion of Islam.
As far as the fundamental beliefs or acts of worship are concerned, the Ahmadi Muslims have neither taken anything out nor added anything new to the religion of Islam. The Ahmadi Muslims make their declaration of faith by reciting the same Kalima which was recited by the Holy Prophet Muhammad himself; they say their Prayers and fast in the same manner as the Holy Prophet of Islam did; and their Qiblah, their Ka'ba, their Azan and their Quran are all exactly the same as that of the other Muslims.
DIFFERENCES WITH SUNNI MUSLIMS
There are basically three beliefs held by Ahmadi Muslims which separate them from the mainstream of Sunni Islam. These three beliefs concern:
o The finality of Muhammad's prophethood.
o Jesus Christ's ascension to heaven, and
o the identity of the Promised Messiah
These three areas of contention between Ahmadi and Sunni Muslims are briefly described below:

The crux of the presentation will focus on the root causes of extremism and how to remedy the ever increasing rate of terror attacks that happens all over the world. The researchers have also highlighted that it is unfair to associate extremism carried out by people to their religions. This sort of an unfair judgment has been done in the case of a Muslim to Islam, while the non-Muslim is associated to mental illness. Last but not least, the researchers call for a concerted effort from all, regardless race and religion to join force to eradicate extremism and make this world a safe place for all to live.

This is a final paper for a George Washington University course I took in 2011. It is composed of a research design for a content analysis project looking at how Muslims have been portrayed in American media over time. The actual research was not carried out, but the paper provides a roadmap for how one might investigate this issue.
Extremism and terrorism are not new phenomena that humanity has to deal with. They have been there in the history of mankind ever since the human population started to increase on this planet. In the past, there have been despotic leaders, individuals, andgroups of people who used extremism and terrorism as a means to exterminate others in order to hold onto power and exert their dominance. The researchers of this small-scale qualitative study had critically analyzed what is happening to the Muslims and what needs to be done in encountering the challenges of global extremism and terrorism. The researchers took a non-partisan stand in analyzing objectively terrorism in the aftermath of the 9/11 attack that shocked the US and the world at large. The crux of the discussion in this research was centered around on the issues as to why western media take a double standard in reporting terror attacks around the globe, why the oppressed and displaced people of the world resort to terrorism, are terrorists born or made, what lessons can be learned by countries that are faced with terror attacks and racial tensions from role-model countries that are successful in maintaining peace and harmony within their diverse population. Besides discussing the main issues, the researchers have put forward their idealism for world peace and on how the world should stand united in combatting the alarming rate of extremism and terror attacks that happen all over the world today. Data pertinent to the research were collected from print and internet sources and later analyzed by using the textual-analysis method. The findings of this research have brought to light that extremism and terrorism cannot be eliminated by simply using brute force and bombing campaigns. Countries embroiled with terror attacks need to study objectively the underlying factors that trigger extremism and terrorism.

A Western education is highly Eurocentric, but pretends to be objective and universal. In particular, social sciences are lessons extracted from European historical experience on how to organized society. The false claim, embodied in the word "science", is that these are universally applicable. Shock and Awe of Western technological prowess has led to unquestioning acceptance of this claim. In turn, this has led to the attempt to shape all societies around the world on European patterns. This has caused massive harm, as these European conceptions of society are in dramatic conflict with local cultures. There is an urgent need to recognize and reject Eurocentric Social Science, and rebuild the study of diverse societies on broader intellectual bases. Islamic epistemology provides such alternative foundations, which are discussed in this set of slides
Terrorism is an historical as well as a universal phenomenon; has been practiced by every type of organisation, religious or non-religious, right-wing or left-wing.Consequently, the reasons for the terrorist activity and the identity of those who carry out these acts are always subject to the context, time and place.Unfortunately, there is no consensus on its accurate definition. More than one hundred definitions in the field; one country’s terrorists are other country’s freedom fighters. Rather than seeking the causes of terrorism itself, a better approach is to determine the conditions that make terror possible or likely.Stopping violence is rarely simple or easy. 6. The past three decades have produced a considerable
increase in scientific and journalistic publications
about Islam, the Muslim World, and the position of
Muslims in Western Europe.
7. This considerable growth has mainly been prompted by
national and international developments, such as
1. the Iranian Revolution,
2. the Rushdie Affair,
3. the Gulf War,
4. the war in former Yugoslavia,
5. the revolution in Afghanistan
6. the growing significance of Islam as a political factor in
the Muslim World.
7. the significant spurt in the migration of Muslims to
countries of the European Union.

9. The so-called Islamic threat should be considered a
myth for a number of reasons.
10. 1. Muslims have never carried out any significant
militant action in the West.
2. The allegations that Islamic and Western culture as
not compatible and that Muslims cannot fit into
European societies are generated by an unfounded
prejudice towards this religion and its followers.
3. The false assumption of Western authorities that
Muslim minorities are more loyal to the governments
of their countries of origin and to the Muslim World
in general than to their host societies.

12. A phenomenon which Halliday calls anti-Muslimism:
the hostility voiced against Muslims is directed mainly
against Muslims as a group of people and not against
Islam
13. The ‘strategic’ type: originates in the United States
and is related to and fed by issues such as oil supplies,
nuclear weapons, and terrorism.
The ‘populist’ type: found in Western Europe. It has
emerged as a reaction to and is concerned with issues
related to the presence of Muslims in Western
societies such as assimilation, integration, race, veiling
and so forth.

15. The methodology used by experts to analyse
developments in the Muslim World can be
characterised by two misleading tendencies:
1. To assume that Western norms and values are the sole
points of reference in any analysis and to regard these
as incompatible with those of Islam: to comparing a
religion (Islam) with a region (or society) (the west).
2. Approaching all developments in the Muslim World as
signals of extreme religiosity.
16. There are various sources which contribute to the
negative image of Islam and to the myth of the Islamic
threat to the Western World. Some authors speak of
anti-Islamism as a collage.
1. The reporter accentuates sensational and exotic news
in order to attract attention,

culture of others, in this case the Muslim
culture, should be avoided.

‘clash of civilisations’.
The notion of the clash of civilisations
concentrates on the differences
between both cultures.

Islamic world in general. In contrast, the estimations
of Christians are based on the number of church
members.
44. Rectifying the negative image of Muslims in the
European Union may be achieved by means of an
‘acceptance-policy’ aimed at stimulating the
acceptance of these groups by society.
