structure of the program offers a cognitive behavioural approach where fun and
experiential learning using hand drumming techniques are used to draw analogies
between the participants connections of their experiences in the drum group, and
their real world experiences. The program is non competitive and is not focused on
the problems or behaviour of the individuals, but aims to build on the strengths of

The Significance of Shakespeare s Regards toward his Mistress in Sonnet 130
Sonnet 130 compares William Shakespeare s mistress to typical, natural beauty;
each time drawing attention to his mistress obvious imperfections. He addresses her
as if she cannot compare to the ideal appearances women are expected to look like
in that of the natural world. The comparisons Shakespeare addresses highlight
aspects of nature, such as snow (3)or coral (2) yet; each comparison proves to be
unflatteringly about his mistress. However, in the final rhyming couplet, Shakespeare
claims his lovefor his mistress by professing; that even though his mistresses has a
great deal of flaws, he accepts them and loves her as much as any man could love a
woman.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The line, And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare is acting as the climax. One
could argue that the climax is the most important element of a story because it is
known as the most intense or exciting part . This line shows excitement because of
the sudden change in Shakespeare s point of view. It acts as a decisive moment for
Shakespeare in the eyes of the readers. This becomes intriguing to the readers
because the poem quickly shifts to a love poem and emphasizes a way of love that
all women wish a man could provide. This love is shown by Shakespeare through
the way he states how a women needs not to be told unseemly lies to be loved like a
women should be loved. Many would enjoy reading this sonnet because of
Shakespeare s final declaration of love at the end of the poem. The line, And yet, by
heaven, I think my love as rare reveals a sincere depiction of his mistress by
emphasizing unflattering aspects about her, which adds importance to his high regard
and unconditional love for her. Yes, his mistress is not as beautiful as things found in
nature, yet Shakespeare loves her nonetheless. In the closing couplet, he emphasizes
the fact that she is as extraordinary as any other woman described with exaggerated
or false comparisons. It is a blunt, but charming sincerity that make Sonnet 130 a very
memorable poem.

Conformity In Social Psychology
Scientific studies have consistently shown that people are influenced in their decision
making processes according to social psychology. For example, a psychologist
named Stanley Milgram conducted a study to test the affects of obedience to
authority. He selected a group of male volunteers and told them that they were
randomly selected to be teachers and learners, though every volunteer in the study
was given the role of the teacher. The volunteers were instructed to teach the learners
a series of words under supervision of an experimenter and give them a shock
whenever they failed. The shocks were gradually increased until the learners began to
exhibit signs of fear and pain this is when the experimenter would tell the volunteers
to continue with the experiment despite the obvious discomfort that both the teacher
and learner were experiencing. 65% of the volunteers continued with the experiment
until a fatal shock was given due to the social influence of the experimenter! This
study proved that an individual s obedience to authority can directly bypass their
morals and consequently affect their behavior. Another scientific study conducted by
Solomon Asch proved the existence of conformity in social psychology. In his study,
Asch placed a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is especially true in the case of Kitty Genovese, who unfortunately fell victim to
the Bystander Effect. Kitty Genovese was stabbed to death on a street in New York
City. Dozens of witnesses were present, but none of them intervened beyond a shout
of protest! When asked why they didn t intervene, their answers ultimately pointed to
diffusion of responsibility another psychological concept. Both the Bystander Effect
and diffusion of responsibility influenced the witnesses to believe that someone else
was bound to help Kitty this, of course, led to none of the witnesses intervening and
the untimely death of Kitty
Wrinkle In Time
In the book A Wrinkle in Time, written by Madeleine L Engle, a young girl goes on
an adventure with her little brother, her friend, and three magical creatures. The
science fiction novel focuses on Meg Murry, an awkward and impatient high school
student, who sets off on an adventure to rescue her missing father from a giant
disembodied brain named IT. She is accompanied by her extraordinary younger
brother Charles Wallace, Calvin O Keefe, a popular and athletic boy that goes to her
school, and three celestial beings named Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which.
Three important elements of the story are the characterization, setting, and theme.
First, one of Calvin s characteristics that is shown throughout the story is his

Mrs. Whatsit loves me; that s what she told me, that she loves me, Suddenly she

Whatsit s love, and her father s, and her mother s, and the real Charles Wallace s
love, and the twins , and Aunt Beat s. And she had her love for them. (207). This
shows how important love is in the story, it is what Meg, the protagonist, has that
IT, the antagonist, doesn t. And it is that love that allows her to defeat IT and save
Charles Wallace. The gentle words, the feeling that this beast would be able to
love her no matter what she said or did, lapped Meg in warmth and peace. She felt
a delicate touch of tentacle to her cheek, as tender as her mother s kiss. (183) This
shows that, no matter what Meg does, the beast, who Meg calls Aunt Beast, will love
her. This also shows the importance of unconditional love and loving despite
Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy Essay
Idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE) is a major health concern, constituting up to
one third of epilepsies (1). They are determined by genetics and affects people of
all sexes and races. Many IGEs are lifelong, and have an onset during childhood or
adolescence (1). One drug that is used to treat IGEs is the barbiturate, phenobarbital
(2). This medication is one of the oldest available antiepileptics, and is low cost and
effective (2). However, there are some serious side effects of the drug which include
somnolence, neuralgic pain, hyperactivity, hypotension, respiratory depression and
impairment of fine motor skills (3). Barbiturates affect the GABA receptor,
specifically the GABAA receptor and are transmitter gated ion channels (4).... Show

Barbiturates also do this via their effect on glutamate receptors by inhibiting the
AMPA subtype of glutamate receptor (7,8).
The increased inhibition of barbiturates leads to depression of the body. It includes
depression of smooth muscles (such as lowering of heart rate, respiration, and blood
pressure), depression of skeletal muscles, diminished brain function (such as impaired
judgement), sedation, and altered emotional responses (9). Some other common side
effects, particularly of phenobarbital, includes dizziness, drowsiness, problems with
memory/concentration, nausea, and vomiting. (9).
Phenobarbital would be my drug of choice within the barbiturate class of drugs. I
would choose to target these class of drugs for epilepsy due to their potency and yet
the severity of side effects. As one of the oldest epileptic drugs, there is room for
improvement with phenobarbital, particularly with the side effects mentioned. Also
of note, there was a study that looked at possibly combining a NKCC1 inhibitor, such
as bumetanide, with phenobarbital to increase the action of the barbiturate (4) or the
combination of phenobarbital and phenytonin (10). I would use these ideas as a
launching point for my research.
If the medicinal chemists could synthesize the drugs that I would use for future
experimentation, and assuming there is no limit to my funding, I would conduct
experiments that would determine the pharmacokinetics, the pharmacodynamics, the
The Iceman s Axe Essay
Murdered. He was murdered. Who? The 5,300 year old human time capsule, whose
name is Г–tzi. Theories about the death of Otzi are as varied as the ages through
which he s slept . Assassination by an envious, bloodthirsty clan mate seems most
plausible. This scenario is likely because of Otzi s copper axe, the arrowhead which
took his life, and a large cavedrawing with a shocking story to tell. Г–tzi, like all of
us, far from invincible, deserves justice.
The Iceman s axe is the first piece of important evidence to consider in this ancient
cold case. Made of smelted copper and advanced for his time, the axe signifies that
Otzi was a man of power or position. Although a small detail, it would make sense
that someone could have desired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evidence also suggests that a fellow clansman was the killer. Further evidence of
motive is suggested by Г–tzi s copper axe the coveted tribal symbol of status.
Similarity of arrowheads belonging to Г–tzi and his killer along with the skill of the
archer and the cave art depicting the dirty deed provide credible evidence which
supports the assassination theory of the crime. Г–tzi was clearly killed by a skilled
assassin determined to be his demise. Hopefully, someday, through yet uncovered
evidence, we will conclusively find Г–tzi s killer so this cold case may be closed and
he will, at last, be laid to

How Russian Bots and Trolls invade our Lives and Elections all share the common
thread, or theme of repurposing one thing or idea in order to serve a different

of human existence. In order to convey this, Rodin alluded to two of Michelangelo s

What Is Perfect Competition Promotes Market Efficiencies
Markets are typically divided into four sectors; perfect competition, pure monopolies,
monopolistic competition and oligopolies. There are two factors that influence which
sector an industry fits into, one being the number of competing firms and the other
being barriers to entry. Commensurate with these are different pricing options and
strategies undertaken by various firms to reach optimal profit maximization.
Altogether, each market contains specific intricacies which effect supply and demand
and ultimately management s response to each. Competition fuels growth, and while
one market might regulate competition by its very nature, other markets must
carefully weigh the cost of competition and what other firm s reactions to it might be.
Regardless of which market a business fits into, managers ultimately care about profit
maximization which occurs at different levels defined by supply and demand. The
following discussion highlights differences between each segment and how
management must interact with the market in order to succeed. A market in which
perfect competitionoccurs provides many unique characteristics favoring both
manufacturers and customers. This purely hypothetical notion of perfect competition
promotes market efficiencies primarily through delivering satisfactory levels of good
and services at minimum cost to consumers who are most willing and able to pay for
them. (Samuelson Marks, Managerial Economics, 2015) The creation of this market

Women In Renaissance Italy
In Renaissance Italy a woman s personal identity wasn t of any great importance.
Her worth in society was calculated on how well she fit into the ideological image of
the Renaissance woman. Women depicted in art were from the upper class and
nobility, these women were confined to their domestic duties as their unions were to
further the fortunes of their families. The rise of humanism in RenaissanceItaly lead
to an enlightened sense of the importance of individualism; however the belief failed
to extend to women. The impact of Humanism in female portraiture showing the sitter
as a fully realised person with intellect, talents, and personality is frustratingly absent
with few works displaying a grasp on the humanity of their female subjects.... Show

the ideal woman and her beauty: the ideal woman had blonde hair, a high forehead,

conversational fodder for the entertainment of men. She was to be devoted to God

Sub-Saharan Climate Change
Agriculture is one of key industries in both sub Saharan Africa and Australia. In the
recent few decades, agricultural production is under serious threat from severe
drought, and the drought has triggered a series of chain reactions involving important
economic and social issues. To cope with various challenges, sub Saharan Africaand
Australia have already taken multiple approaches.
There is no doubt that climate is a considerable element for the agricultural
production. However, along with the climate change, extreme weather tends to be
more frequent and more intense that destructively affects framing. As a result, the
drought occurred in sub Saharan Africa became continual and long duration, which

The drought has weakened the ability of farmers who produce food. Therefore, sub
Saharan Africa and Australia farmers obtained reduced income and tax revenues.
Instead, food prices and the rate of unemployment were increased. Compared with
sub Saharan Africa, Australia had more severe financial problems. With an economic
recession spreading in agricultural industry, Australia farmers are encumbered by
debts that they cannot afford new technologies or crops.
In response to the economic crisis, sub Saharan Africa adjusted the corresponding
market system, which was input/output market development. The goal of the input
/output market was to regulate prices and consumption during the drought period to
minimize the loss of farmers. Furthermore, sub Saharan Africa encouraged farmers to
diversify the livelihoods to lighten stresses. Unlike sub Saharan Africa, numerous
Australia farmers tried to gain secondary off farm employment to mitigate the burden

The Great Gatsby Character Analysis
Francis Scott Fitzgerald, the author of a book widely renowned as the greatest
American novel, is known for his tendency to insert autobiographical elements within
his works of fiction. Within The Great Gatsby itself, Fitzgerald wrote scenes and
storylines from his own corrupted and perverse experiences, ones brought about by
his damaged psyche. The greatest examples of Fitzgerald s personal biography within
The Great Gatsbyare the amoral female characters which he wrote. Nevertheless the
fact that the 1920s are widely regarded as the era in history when feminism first
began to have a fighting chance, Fitzgerald wrote his female characters as
destructive forces who are less than their male counterparts and have to be
controlled. Fitzgerald s misogynistic opinions are present in Daisy, a woman
villainized despite being under the control of others, Jordan, a corrupted girl who
negatively represents the feminism of the jazz age, and Myrtle, a character who
was written more like an animal than she was a woman. Drawing from his own
negative experiences with women, including unhealthy obsessions with those out of
his social league and an affair ridden marriage with his wife, Fitzgerald branded his
female characters within The Great Gatsby with practically irredeemable qualities,
revealing his sexist ideals and intentions. Fitzgerald s second greatest inspiration for
his female characters, following his wife Zelda, was Ginevra King, a debutante from
Chicago with whom Fitzgerald shared loving correspondence with for many years.
However, Fitzgerald s relationship with Ginevra ended upon her choosing of a
wealthier suitor as her fiancГ© rather than the poor Fitzgerald, who had become
infatuated with her by the time of the engagement (Noden np). The relationship ended
in toxicity, with King claiming their letter heavy relationship to be nothing more than
flirtation and Fitzgerald starting Which bitch do you think you are? as a reply to
King s wondering of which characters she inspired (Fitzgerald qtd. in Noden np).
Fitzgerald s relationship dynamic with Ginevra is very much evident in the
relationship between Jay Gatsbyand Daisy Buchanan, which tells the story of a poor
soldier reinventing himself for a rich debutant
Fannie Mae And Freddie Mac
1.During the great depression in 1934 many people didn t have jobs. Not having
jobs meant that it would be awfully hard for them to obtain a loan from banks in
order to purchase homes. The government decided to help the American people by
creating the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) which basically stepped in and
allowed banks to offer mortgages to more people with the promise that the banks
would get their money back. The FHA finances itself with insurance premiums that
they charge borrowers as well as interest that they receive on reserves. They use these
funds to underwrite more loans which helps out people with their mortgages.

In my opinion, the government should take a step back and not be involved in the
USA housing market any longer. The reason behind my thinking has to do with

only to personal taxes but corporate taxes as well. Trump has said that he wants to
lower the corporate tax rate from the current 35% to 20, maybe even 15% which is
great news for corporations but not so great when it comes to Fannie Mae and
Freddie Mac. The reason that this would be bad for these enterprises is because
they are under conservatorship and cutting the corporate tax rate would force these
enterprises to once again need a bailout. Being under conservatorship means that
for every quarter Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac make a profit, they have to pay
dividends to the department of treasury and at the same time they aren t allowed to
rebuild capital but instead their capital base is diminished as time passes which
means that in 2018 they will have not one penny remaining in their capital reserves.
Furthermore, lower corporate tax rates mean that Fannie Mac and Freddie Mac will
have significant deferred tax asset write downs...which, in turn, could lead to the GSE
s need an additional draw from the Treasury to cover tax related losses (Housingwire).
To reiterate my point once again, I believe that the government shouldn t continue its
involvement in the
Why Is Princess Diana A Hero
Hero: (noun) A person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding
achievements, or noble qualities. This definition is one of the many word s that
would be used to describe Princess Diana. Diana was the Princess of Wales and was
and still is looked up to by many. Diana was the world s sweetheart not only for her
personality but her actions too, but was it her actions that got her killed? Although
many believe what happened to Princess Dianawas only a tragic accident, there are
many other theories to the death of Princess Diana. The mystery surrounding the
death of the beloved Princess Diana has sparked an exhaustive investigation by
theorists. There is many thoughts on her death, but there are also many facts
everyone agrees with. For example, Diana s death took place on August 31st, 1997
in Paris, France (Paprocki 100). That night Diana had enjoyed a romantic meal with

One of the theories is that it was a set up car accident. Some evidence to this theory
is, on the day Diana s death, she announced to a major British National Newspaper
to be ready for an amazing announcement (Southwell and Twist 62). Also, later on
in trial Diana s butler mentioned him receiving a letter from her months before.
The letter was over how Princess Diana believed she was going to be in a car
accident and how a car crash was being planned (Southwell and Twist 63). Lastly,
There are many people who are believed to be behind or in charge of these theories.
One of the most popular is that is was a joint French and British conspiracy
because they did not want Diana to marry a Muslim man (Southwell and Twist 62).
Another Bizarre theory is that Diana staged her own death so her and Dodi could
live free from the glory of publicity (Southwell and Twist 64). Taking a deeper look
into the life of Princess Diana, Diana s death being set up is a very reasonable

7. Chinatown Discover new investment opportunities in Chinatown. Other than the
Chinatowns in San Francisco and New York City, this is the next largest
Chinatown in the country. Known for its colorful designs, this area is densely
populated. With its top restaurants, theaters and shopping options, it is a popular
option for renters and investors. In the last year, the median sales price has actually
fallen by $44,000 to reach $610,000. Since the average price per square foot
actually rose, this change mostly indicates that smaller homes are selling more
frequently. During the last year, the average price per square foot increased from
$914 to $1,036. Most of the multi unit homes in Chinatown are inside of low rise
buildings. In the last decade, many buildings have been transformed into luxury, high
end homes. Loft units have risen in popularity, so many historic buildings have been
converted into luxury lofts. Unlike the rest of Boston, Chinatown still has a
surprising number of affordable homes. Right now, investors can buy homes at a
comparably lower price and watch their investment rise in value over the upcoming
years. Since many renters are looking for homes in the area, investors never have to
worry about finding tenants.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

investors can rent out commercial and residential space for a low investment

Autism Spectrum Disorder is characterized by persistent deficits in social
communication and social interaction along with a tendency to engage in repetitive

this form of therapy takes into account an individual s natural level of interest and
then expands on that original level of motivation to incorporate mutual interest of

Medical Diagnostic Devices
Healthcare, and all that it provides, is considered one of the most precious
resources in the United States today. Everyone has been there. After days of
feeling crummy you break down and go the doctor. After all, there is so much you
need to do. From your child s soccer game your little one has been talking about for
days, your cousin s wedding with the perfect dress hanging in the closet and of
course, you cannot afford to miss work. So there you are, in the doctor s office
with the all important question. What is wrong with me? Thankfully, with modern
day science, there is technology available to peer inside and discover what stands
between you, the soccer field sideline, and embarrassing your family by dancing the
Macarena. With each passing year, the sophistication of medical diagnostic devices
increases with disruption to the traditional and centralized diagnostic delivery
model. A review of five medical diagnostic devices available today, or coming soon

current model.
Capsule Endoscopy According to Christensen, Grossman, and Hwang (2009),

Reiner ordered GE units to come back with alternative approaches that enhance

changing GE s culture at the very top. GE s internal newsletters and many of Welch

life... The Way of the Peaceful Warrior is a book by Dan Millman where he talks
about his journey from being a self absorbed gymnast to a peaceful warrior who

Dan Millman starts the story from his college days in Berkeley University where

This movie also reminds me while competition has the power to bring out the best

problem. Dan s continued resistance and defensiveness to Socrates teaching points
is a validation of the human inability to break old habits until the human being
admits that there is something wrong and there is a need for change. But what
compounds the human problem to break old habits is the fear of change. This is
another reality that the book managed to acknowledge. People don t like to change
their way of thinking because how they think, albeit destructive, is familiar. It seems
what the book is trying to imply at this point is that people are disillusioned into
believing that what is familiar is good for
Aesop s Fables, The Trojan War
Why do people still read and talk about Greek mythology today?Well believe it or
not people still read these myths like Aesop s Fables, the Trojan War, and much
more! This report will talk about how these myths can relate to my claim that hard
work can pay off rather than its counterpart of rather being lazy using the myths
and fables from the Greeks, as they are still relevant today. People can learn that the
Greeks wanted to prove that in myths there is a lot you can get with hard work
using the myth Heroes Every Child Should Know: Perseus .After hearing his demand
from the immortals, the gods that can t die,Perseus knew that he must take this task

This matters because the grasshopper was to lazy to gain his resources for the
winter and instead decided to sing for the summer so he basically waited last
minute which is an example of laziness, while the ants were hard workers and
gained all their food(Aesop). The Greeks also proved hard work and laziness using
the fable, The Miser. This is because he could have worked harder to get better
protection for his gold because he just in a hole and would check it once in awhile
but in result his co worker stole his precious gold(Aesop). As you can see,if the
Miser would have put in more work for protection he would still have his gold but
he was too lazy to build more protection(Aesop). In conclusion, you can that Greek
literature is still flows in our modern world and my claim was proven that hard
work pays off rather than its counterpart of being lazy as the Greeks were mostly
lazy in the examples I
Hurricane Katrina Simulation
Hurricane Katrina was a devastating disaster that has affected many people in New
Orleans as well as the surrounding areas. It had a stunning death toll of 1300 people
and damage over $100 billion ( Davlasheridze 94 ). The communication were taken
down hours after Katrina because of the unexpected fast winds and floods that broke
down 3 million phone lines and 1,000 cellular towers in Louisiana, Mississippi and
Alabama. ( Joch ). Because of the millions of phone lines that were battered,
contacting the government for help was difficult hours after hurricane Katrina. Not
only that, the people of New Orleans underestimated the power of Hurricane
Katrina causing many to be stranded with no food or water ( Narrator, The Storm
,PBS ). Before Hurricane Katrina, a simulation called Hurricane Pam was created
to prepare for a disaster like Katrina. It was the perfect model of what happened in
Katrina ( Maestri, The Storm ). The purpose of it was to prepare the people
(government) in what is needed during a real hurricane. Unfortunately, Before they
could finish the exercise, FEMA s funding for the simulation was cut before it was
completed causing the simulation to be canceled. The reason why Hurricane Pam
was unsuccessful because Medical care for hurricane victims was not yet
finalized, communication systems were not addressed at all, and key
transportation decisions were left to be determined ( Narrator, The Storm , PBS ).
If the simulation were to be completed, the disaster of Hurricane Katrina could ve
been solved with a prepared plan to help many in New Orleans. Over the years of
Hurricane Katrina, FEMA faced many criticisms. Not only FEMA, but every level
of government was roundly criticized ( Howellq ). Back in 9/11, They acted fast
and accordingly to the disaster. During hurricane Katrina, they were slow and had
false promises that the locals of New Orleans believed ( Maestri, The Storm , PBS
). Many people asked FEMA for resources and help, but that turned down because
they did not ask the right way ( Hale The Storm , PBS). During an interview with
one of FEMA s secretaries, Michael Brown , had claimed that FEMA could not help
Louisiana because they didn t tell them what they
Slavery And The Removal Of The Indians
Without slavery and a proper way to control native americans living on american
land then there can be no stable economy. America is based upon land and what can
be gained from it. Slaves work the land and indians run amuck on the land. So to
justify both slavery and the removal of the indians: Slavery is the basis of the
revenue from the south, and to abolish slaverywill lead to a destabilization of the
economy and destroy the freedoms that are trying to be achieved. Native Americans
are uncontrollable and dangerous without proper enforcement from the american
government. Frederick Douglas lived his life in slavery and witnessed the cruelty of
a slave s life. White slave masters are power hungry and vicious.

Western europe needs America for trade. A Lot of the food that is used by the
europeans is grown by the south. And so without Slavery Western europe will starve.
(Fitzhugh, Canibals, 3)
Now it might be said that it would be easier and more humane to free the slaves
and pay them. But the answer for that is simple. Slaves are seen as Capital there is
no need say in an economic downturn to get rid of slaves as there would be for paid
workmen. To turn out a slave is to lose money. (Fitzhugh, Sociology, 1) Then there
is the fact that a lot of Americans lower class white men are in poverty. They do not
have enough food, enough clothing, or enough shelter. The condition of these
people is worse than the slaves. Slaves are brought from the wild confines of
Africa to live in comfort in America. (Fitzhugh, Sociology, 2) Slaves are hard
workers, the are better at working in the climate of the south than those europeans
that try and work the land. Sure it would be better to free them and pay them if we
were in a place like england which has little land and lots of people. But in America
it is opposite, there is tons of land and little people. If slaves are free what is to stop
them from going and finding their own land? If that happens it will destroy the
economy. It is better to have 1 plantation with 100 workers rather than have 100
plantations with 1 worker. The latter example will gain less income and the economy
will fail destroying

Gay Adoption Should be Legalized Essay
Gay adoption by legal couples has become a rising controversy in the past decade,
affecting the lives of many children and families. Most states allow gays and
lesbians to individually adopt but do not allow them adoption as a legally
recognized couple. In 1976, the American Psychological Association declared that
the sex, gender identity, or sexual... orientation of natural, or prospective adoptive or
foster parents should not be the sole or primary variable considered in custody or
placement cases. Historically, the benefits of gay adoptionhave been recognized, but
have not yet been legalized. However, adoption by homosexual couples should be

Utah has also successfully approached the idea of banning by allowing only married
couples to adopt (Hopkins). As a result, countless children are left among foster and
adoption agencies.
With thousands of children anticipating adoption, allowing same sex couples to
adopt would decrease these waiting numbers by providing stable homes and families.
Excluding gays and lesbians from the prospective resource parent pool will in turn
eliminate thousands of children from being provided a permanent home (Sioco). The
Children Bureau s Trends in Foster Care and Adoption report completed in 2008
showed that there were 130,000 children waiting to be adopted. These results were
defined as those children with a goal of adoption and those whose parental rights
were terminated (Sioco).
In addition to children feeling the repercussions of banned gay adoption, the couples
who desire children are also negatively affected. There are countless homosexual
couples that would like to complete their family by adopting one or more children of
their own (see Fig. 2 below). Unfortunately, this is being completed through
loopholes rather than the legal process in order to develop their family, such as one
parent adopting the child rather than the couple. Federal law does not yet recognize
gay marriage, leaving rights to be determined at the state level, often resulting in them
varying greatly.

How Is Love Presented In Romeo And Juliet
How love is presented in the first Act and a half of Romeo and Juliet ?
Throughout the first Act and a half of the tragic novel Romeo and Juliet , William
Shakespeare presents love as something beautiful but ominous simultaneously. He
conveys this through the perspectives and approach of different characters on love.
Shakespeare is trying to inform us that the idea of love may seem happy and joyful
but it does not always result positively; love will also be chaotic and destructive.
Shakespeare presents love as a supremely important and complex, especially for
women. The contemporary audience thought marriage was greatly significant, as
you had to be married to have children. Women in the Elizabethan times were
married and had children from the age of fourteen and so it is important for Juliet,
14, to get married as soon as possible. Lord Capulet s friend Paris, wants to marry
Juliet, but he approaches her father rather than Juliet. Paris approaching Lord
Capulet rather than Juliet was the traditional and more formal way according to the
Elizabethan public. However it seemed as if he was making a business deal. What

Juliet. He wants to marry Juliet so that, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Voice of Billie Holiday Essay
The Voice of Billie Holiday
A woman stands before you, and although she isn t a politician, she expresses her
moving thoughts on issues that affect all Americans. Her voice isn t harsh or
demanding in tone. Her stature is slender and traced in a shimmer of light that
reflects from her dress. A southern magnolia is lying comfortably above her ear.
She sings. She sings of incomprehension, of hate, and of a race s pain. She sings
low and confused. She sings as Our Lady of Sorrow (Davis 1), a representation of a

she moves a crowd, one that gathers into many. Billie Holiday comes to prove that

Holiday sang her emotions that could only be expressed by a minority race, but with
the emotion that the human race could understand. Holiday proved herself a race
woman, a term created for a woman who spoke out for civil rights for the black race.
Billie Holiday was a jazz singer. Holiday was a musician of great proportion, but as
a black woman was discriminated against even as an artist (Davis 2). Holiday
started her career as a young woman, and was talented enough to start her career as
a singer; when most black women her age were forced into a dancing career, due to
the white male dominated entertainment industry. Holiday sang jazz songs that
varied from My Man, a song about a man who beats her, to Strange Fruit, a
haunting protest song about lynching in the American South. Tony Bennett once
stated about Holiday, She didn t sing anything unless she had lived it (Foley 1). So
black fans claimed her as their voice to willing white ears, not only as a favorite
performer but as a kind of patron saint (Davis 3). Holiday faced the simple obstacle
of being heard. Although jazz had become a moving genre of music in her time, and
Holiday s talent was overwhelming, it was a challenge for a black woman to be
taken seriously for the messages in her songs. Black women were often praised for
being emotional and not intellectual in their musical talent.

getting into the university in their amicus curiae briefs. Thernstrom submitted her
amici brief in favor of the petitioner, Abigail N. Fisher et. al., and Putnam submits his
amici brief in favor of the respondents, The Universityof Texas et. al. The University
of Texas chose not to admit Ms. Fisher, who was then a high school student. Ms.

His experience in the classroom and his substantial research into both the positives
and negatives of diversity make his clear, concise arguments are incredibly
convincing, especially in regards to his own university classroom.

John Jackson D-Day Essay
A long time ago in 1942 when the nations of the world have once again for the
second time engaged in a world war. Men were once again sent to war and had to
leave their families to fight a war for whatever country or nation they came from.
Some men were paratroopers that were flown in by plane. However, some men did
not always have safe travels to their destinations and were often separated from
their squad if they even managed to fall safely to the ground and survive the
barrage of gunfire from the enemies below. There were some American paratroopers
that ran into these problems when they were dropped into D day. One of them was
named John Jackson. John Jackson was on one of the first planes heading to the

John had 3 kids with her that he had watched by his parents while he went off to
war. His main objective now is to not end up like his other squad mates and die at
the hands of the germans. The desire became stronger as he stared at the bodies of
his dead squad mates. The blood flowing out like a river. The cold dead look on
their faces. The men find an abandoned house to try and radio call for help. As they
were trying to make the call they heard men speaking in german again. The voices
were near by. John went to look out the window and counted ten men armed with
rifles and submachine guns. The three men froze upon seeing the sight of the angry
germans. John s mind turned blank and he was unable to think of a plan to get the
three of them out of this if they were discovered by the germans. But just then an M2
Sherman tank came mowing down any trees that came in its path and shot down the
germans with machine gun fire. Tears of joy stream down John s face at the sight of
seeing a friendly tank with a bright yellow sun behind it. The nightmare was over and
the darkness from the night has fallen. The three men have survived and are
fortunate enough to return home to their families. John will get to see his kids once
again in a happy and safe

  • 6. The Significance of Shakespeare s Regards Toward His... The Significance of Shakespeare s Regards toward his Mistress in Sonnet 130 Sonnet 130 compares William Shakespeare s mistress to typical, natural beauty; each time drawing attention to his mistress obvious imperfections. He addresses her as if she cannot compare to the ideal appearances women are expected to look like in that of the natural world. The comparisons Shakespeare addresses highlight aspects of nature, such as snow (3)or coral (2) yet; each comparison proves to be unflatteringly about his mistress. However, in the final rhyming couplet, Shakespeare claims his lovefor his mistress by professing; that even though his mistresses has a great deal of flaws, he accepts them and loves her as much as any man could love a woman.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The line, And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare is acting as the climax. One could argue that the climax is the most important element of a story because it is known as the most intense or exciting part . This line shows excitement because of the sudden change in Shakespeare s point of view. It acts as a decisive moment for Shakespeare in the eyes of the readers. This becomes intriguing to the readers because the poem quickly shifts to a love poem and emphasizes a way of love that all women wish a man could provide. This love is shown by Shakespeare through the way he states how a women needs not to be told unseemly lies to be loved like a women should be loved. Many would enjoy reading this sonnet because of Shakespeare s final declaration of love at the end of the poem. The line, And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare reveals a sincere depiction of his mistress by emphasizing unflattering aspects about her, which adds importance to his high regard and unconditional love for her. Yes, his mistress is not as beautiful as things found in nature, yet Shakespeare loves her nonetheless. In the closing couplet, he emphasizes the fact that she is as extraordinary as any other woman described with exaggerated or false comparisons. It is a blunt, but charming sincerity that make Sonnet 130 a very memorable poem. Works Cited Shakespeare, William. Sonnet 130. 1609.

For example, a psychologist named Stanley Milgram conducted a study to test the affects of obedience to authority. He selected a group of male volunteers and told them that they were randomly selected to be teachers and learners, though every volunteer in the study was given the role of the teacher. The volunteers were instructed to teach the learners a series of words under supervision of an experimenter and give them a shock whenever they failed. The shocks were gradually increased until the learners began to exhibit signs of fear and pain this is when the experimenter would tell the volunteers to continue with the experiment despite the obvious discomfort that both the teacher and learner were experiencing. 65% of the volunteers continued with the experiment until a fatal shock was given due to the social influence of the experimenter! This study proved that an individual s obedience to authority can directly bypass their morals and consequently affect their behavior. They are determined by genetics and affects people of all sexes and races. Many IGEs are lifelong, and have an onset during childhood or adolescence (1). One drug that is used to treat IGEs is the barbiturate, phenobarbital (2). This medication is one of the oldest available antiepileptics, and is low cost and effective (2). However, there are some serious side effects of the drug which include somnolence, neuralgic pain, hyperactivity, hypotension, respiratory depression and impairment of fine motor skills (3). Some other common side effects, particularly of phenobarbital, includes dizziness, drowsiness, problems with memory/concentration, nausea, and vomiting. (9). Phenobarbital would be my drug of choice within the barbiturate class of drugs. I would choose to target these class of drugs for epilepsy due to their potency and yet the severity of side effects. As one of the oldest epileptic drugs, there is room for improvement with phenobarbital, particularly with the side effects mentioned. Also of note, there was a study that looked at possibly combining a NKCC1 inhibitor, such as bumetanide, with phenobarbital to increase the action of the barbiturate (4) or the combination of phenobarbital and phenytonin (10). I would use these ideas as a launching point for my research. If the medicinal chemists could synthesize the drugs that I would use for future experimentation, and assuming there is no limit to my funding, I would conduct experiments that would determine the pharmacokinetics, the pharmacodynamics, the

  • 12. What Is Perfect Competition Promotes Market Efficiencies Markets are typically divided into four sectors; perfect competition, pure monopolies, monopolistic competition and oligopolies. There are two factors that influence which sector an industry fits into, one being the number of competing firms and the other being barriers to entry. Commensurate with these are different pricing options and strategies undertaken by various firms to reach optimal profit maximization. Altogether, each market contains specific intricacies which effect supply and demand and ultimately management s response to each. Competition fuels growth, and while one market might regulate competition by its very nature, other markets must carefully weigh the cost of competition and what other firm s reactions to it might be. Regardless of which market a business fits into, managers ultimately care about profit maximization which occurs at different levels defined by supply and demand. The following discussion highlights differences between each segment and how management must interact with the market in order to succeed. A market in which perfect competitionoccurs provides many unique characteristics favoring both manufacturers and customers. This purely hypothetical notion of perfect competition promotes market efficiencies primarily through delivering satisfactory levels of good and services at minimum cost to consumers who are most willing and able to pay for them. (Samuelson Marks, Managerial Economics, 2015) The creation of this market category

  • 21. The Great Gatsby Character Analysis Francis Scott Fitzgerald, the author of a book widely renowned as the greatest American novel, is known for his tendency to insert autobiographical elements within his works of fiction. Within The Great Gatsby itself, Fitzgerald wrote scenes and storylines from his own corrupted and perverse experiences, ones brought about by his damaged psyche. The greatest examples of Fitzgerald s personal biography within The Great Gatsbyare the amoral female characters which he wrote. Nevertheless the fact that the 1920s are widely regarded as the era in history when feminism first began to have a fighting chance, Fitzgerald wrote his female characters as destructive forces who are less than their male counterparts and have to be controlled. Fitzgerald s misogynistic opinions are present in Daisy, a woman villainized despite being under the control of others, Jordan, a corrupted girl who negatively represents the feminism of the jazz age, and Myrtle, a character who was written more like an animal than she was a woman. Drawing from his own negative experiences with women, including unhealthy obsessions with those out of his social league and an affair ridden marriage with his wife, Fitzgerald branded his female characters within The Great Gatsby with practically irredeemable qualities, revealing his sexist ideals and intentions. Fitzgerald s second greatest inspiration for his female characters, following his wife Zelda, was Ginevra King, a debutante from Chicago with whom Fitzgerald shared loving correspondence with for many years. However, Fitzgerald s relationship with Ginevra ended upon her choosing of a wealthier suitor as her fiancГ© rather than the poor Fitzgerald, who had become infatuated with her by the time of the engagement (Noden np). The relationship ended in toxicity, with King claiming their letter heavy relationship to be nothing more than flirtation and Fitzgerald starting Which bitch do you think you are? as a reply to King s wondering of which characters she inspired (Fitzgerald qtd. in Noden np). Fitzgerald s relationship dynamic with Ginevra is very much evident in the relationship between Jay Gatsbyand Daisy Buchanan, which tells the story of a poor soldier reinventing himself for a rich debutant

The reason behind my thinking has to do with the new president we have in the White House. Trump has said that he wants to lower the corporate tax rate from the current 35% to 20, maybe even 15% which is great news for corporations but not so great when it comes to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The reason that this would be bad for these enterprises is because they are under conservatorship and cutting the corporate tax rate would force these enterprises to once again need a bailout. Being under conservatorship means that for every quarter Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac make a profit, they have to pay dividends to the department of treasury and at the same time they aren t allowed to rebuild capital but instead their capital base is diminished as time passes which means that in 2018 they will have not one penny remaining in their capital reserves. Furthermore, lower corporate tax rates mean that Fannie Mac and Freddie Mac will have significant deferred tax asset write downs...which, in turn, could lead to the GSE s need an additional draw from the Treasury to cover tax related losses (Housingwire). To reiterate my point once again, I believe that the government shouldn t continue its involvement in the

  • 32. Hurricane Katrina Simulation Hurricane Katrina was a devastating disaster that has affected many people in New Orleans as well as the surrounding areas. It had a stunning death toll of 1300 people and damage over $100 billion ( Davlasheridze 94 ). The communication were taken down hours after Katrina because of the unexpected fast winds and floods that broke down 3 million phone lines and 1,000 cellular towers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. ( Joch ). Because of the millions of phone lines that were battered, contacting the government for help was difficult hours after hurricane Katrina. Not only that, the people of New Orleans underestimated the power of Hurricane Katrina causing many to be stranded with no food or water ( Narrator, The Storm ,PBS ). Before Hurricane Katrina, a simulation called Hurricane Pam was created to prepare for a disaster like Katrina. It was the perfect model of what happened in Katrina ( Maestri, The Storm ). The purpose of it was to prepare the people (government) in what is needed during a real hurricane. Unfortunately, Before they could finish the exercise, FEMA s funding for the simulation was cut before it was completed causing the simulation to be canceled. The reason why Hurricane Pam was unsuccessful because Medical care for hurricane victims was not yet finalized, communication systems were not addressed at all, and key transportation decisions were left to be determined ( Narrator, The Storm , PBS ). If the simulation were to be completed, the disaster of Hurricane Katrina could ve been solved with a prepared plan to help many in New Orleans. Over the years of Hurricane Katrina, FEMA faced many criticisms. Not only FEMA, but every level of government was roundly criticized ( Howellq ). Slaves are seen as Capital there is no need say in an economic downturn to get rid of slaves as there would be for paid workmen. To turn out a slave is to lose money. (Fitzhugh, Sociology, 1) Then there is the fact that a lot of Americans lower class white men are in poverty. They do not have enough food, enough clothing, or enough shelter. Utah has also successfully approached the idea of banning by allowing only married couples to adopt (Hopkins). As a result, countless children are left among foster and adoption agencies. With thousands of children anticipating adoption, allowing same sex couples to adopt would decrease these waiting numbers by providing stable homes and families. Excluding gays and lesbians from the prospective resource parent pool will in turn eliminate thousands of children from being provided a permanent home (Sioco). The Children Bureau s Trends in Foster Care and Adoption report completed in 2008 showed that there were 130,000 children waiting to be adopted. These results were defined as those children with a goal of adoption and those whose parental rights were terminated (Sioco).
