LEOTARD: The leotard is a unisex one piece undergarment which covers
the torso but leaves the legs free. The leotard was created by
a famous French acrobatic performer Jules Léotard.
Leotards are not just worn by Dancers but also by acrobats,
gymnasts, figure skaters, athletics, actors and circus
performers. Leotards are usually made out of Spandex or lyre.
Unitard:
A unitard is a skin-tight one-piece garment with long legs and sometimes
long sleeves. It differs from a leotard in that a leotard does not have long
legs. The unitard is also considered to be a leotard and tights put together.
Unitards are worn by acrobats, gymnastics, dancers, equestrian vaulters
and circus performers. Unitards are typically made out of polyester and
other related fabrics.
Body Suit:
In clothing, a bodysuit or body is a unisex form fitting garment that
covers the torso. The bodysuit often has sleeves and varying collars. A
bodysuit is distinguished from the similar leotard by the use of snaps
or hooks at the crotch. Azzedine Alaia and Donna Karan helped make
the body suit from the eighties fashion for both men and women. The
body suit is usually made out of polyester, spandex or lyre.
Cat suit:
A cat suit is a close-fitting one-piece garment that covers the torso and the
legs, and frequently the arms. They are usually made from stretchable
material, such as lycra, chiffon, spandex (after 1959), leather, latex, PVC, or
velour, and frequently close using a zipper at the front or back. Cat suits,
which date from at least the 1940s, can be worn by both men and women,
and, despite the name, do not generally have feline characteristics.
Zentai:
Is a term for skin tight garment that cover the entire body. A Zentai
is made out of nylon or spandex mainly but other materials such as
wool or cotton are also used.
Romper Suit:
A romper suit is a one-piece garment worn by children and
sometimes women. It is loose fitting and usually has shorter
legs that may be gathered at the end. Rompers appeared in
the United States of America in the early 1900s.
Leggings: Leggings are a type of fitted clothing covering the legs, which can be
worn by both men and women. Originally leggings were two
separate garments, one for each leg.
Modern leggings are typically made from a blend of lycra, Spandex,
nylon, cotton, or polyester blend, but they can also be made from
wool, silk and other materials. Leggings are available in many
different colours and decorative designs.
Jeans:
Jeans are trousers made from denim. The American blue jean was invented by
Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss in 1873. Jeans, originally designed for work, became
popular among teenagers starting in the 1950s. Jeans come in various types, for
example, skinny jeans, boot cut, or flare.
Shorts:
Shorts are a garment worn by both men and women over their pelvic area,
circling the waist, and covering the upper part of the legs, sometimes extending
down to or even below the knee, but not covering the entire length of the leg.
Shorts can be made out of: lycra, cotton, silk, velvet, wool, polyester and linen.
Trousers:
Trousers are an item of clothing worn on the lower part of the body
from the waist to the ankles, covering both legs separately. Trousers
are usually made out of cotton, knitted cotton and lycra.
Skirts:
A skirt is a tube- or cone-shaped garment that hangs from the waist and
covers all or part of the legs. In the western world, skirts are usually
considered women's clothing. However, there are exceptions. The kilt is a
traditional men's garment in Scotland, and some fashion designers, such as
Jean-Paul Gaultier, have shown men's skirts.
Tops and T-Shirts:
Is a shirt which is pulled on over the head to cover most of a person's
torso. A T-shirt is usually button less and collarless, with a round neck and
short sleeves. T-shirts are typically made of cotton or polyester fibers (or a
mix of the two), knitted together in a jersey stitch that gives a T-shirt its
distinctive soft texture. T-shirt fashions include styles for men and women,
and for all age groups, including baby, youth, and adult sizes.
