2. Project
In 2006, Degrémont (in a Joint Venture partnership with United Group
Infrastructure (UGI)), won a contract to design and build a recycled
water and wastewater treatment plant in the Pimpama region of the
Gold Coast, Queensland.
The contract was awarded to Degrémont by Gold Coast Water (now
known as Allconnex Water), one of Queensland’s water management
authorities, in the context of an extensive sustainable development
initiative reflected by the Pimpama Coomera Waterfuture Master
Plan.
The great challenge for Pimpama Coomera Regional Authorities
is the projected fivefold population increase by 2056, while facing
increasing water scarcity.
All new urban development areas in the region will have pipes for
recycled water in addition to drinking water infrastructure. All new
housing is now designed for the use of Class A+ Recycled Water in
lavatories and outdoor use.
Treatment
The ‘WaterCycle’ Alliance, which brings together the world’s largest
water and wastewater contractor Degrémont (DGT), UGI and Gold
Coast Water (now known as Allconnex Water), completed the
Pimpana Recycled Water Plant in 2009.
The plant receives an average 17 million litres per day of wastewater,
which undergoes comprehensive mechanical and biological
treatment. Of these 17 million, 9 million litres are further treated
through membrane ultrafiltration and ultraviolet disinfection to meet
Class A+ Recycled Water standards.

The Pimpama Recycled Water Plant, is the core
component of the award winning Pimpama Coomera
WaterFuture Master Plan, providing a solution to
the increasing water scarcity in the region.
The 17 ML/d (expandable to 51 ML/d) recycled water
and wastewater treatment plant was designed to
serve a population of 150, 000 inhabitants.
