Mintzberg identified 10 key management roles that all managers perform to varying degrees: information roles of monitoring, disseminating, and serving as a spokesperson; interpersonal roles of being a figurehead, leader, and liaison; and decisional roles of being an entrepreneur, disturbance handler, resource allocator, and negotiator. The roles involve gathering internal and external information, representing the organization, motivating employees, maintaining relationships, recognizing opportunities, resolving conflicts, allocating resources, and negotiating on behalf of the organization.
