St. Nicholas' day was celebrated similarly in the past and present, with some differences. In the past, children left baskets for gifts and were scared by devils called parkeljni. Today, children leave letters with wishes and receive small gifts. On the day, people gather to see St. Nicholas arrive with angels, devils, and Lucifer, who try to scare children. The record keeper reads children's deeds and naughty children are scared by Lucifer. Children promise to do better and receive candy from angels.
