An important part of our course is researching information on diversity and multiculturalism and its social, cultural, and ethical impact upon individual citizens, groups of people, and society at large.
Below are four scenarios pertaining to cultural diversity. For this assignment, you will prepare a research paper that focuses on one of these scenarios, analyzing what happened, what the consequences either are or might be, and how the situation can be corrected and or prevented in the future. These must be concrete suggestions that could actually be implemented rather than vague references or opinions. While the situations have been fictionalized, there have been actual situations that are very similar. You will submit the report in three sections throughout the course, with a due date for each section. These due dates are posted on the Course Schedule.
The Course Project should be six to eight pages in length, with an additional Title page and Reference page(s). The Reference page should include a minimum of four different scholarly, academically accepted books and/or journals used. Do not use Wikipedia and similar encyclopedia websites, such as about.com or buzzle.com. Please review the detailed instructions for each phase of the project, which you can find in the Assignment tab for that week. Your project will be graded as follows.

1. A large hydroelectric dam built in the 1950s and 60s created a 1-million acre impoundment, and it has been a major means of both producing electricity and flood control for many decades. In early spring each year, the water level above the dam is lowered to allow a reservoir for upstream snow melt and runoff later released downstream in a controlled fashion. This annual event has drawn no notice until this past spring, when a Native American tribe whose reservation borders on the impoundment came forward to claim that an ancient burial ground had been revealed less than a mile above the dam when the water level was lowered. To them, this was sacred ground and disturbing the bones of their ancestors was tantamount to desecration. Citing both 19th century treaty agreements and contracts with the U.S. government at the time the dam was built concerning the sanctity of holy grounds, the tribe insists that the burial grounds cannot be submerged again and that the water level must be maintained at its present, lower level. They also say that their culture does not permit the removal and reburial of the remains and that the federal government has recognized the rights of Native Americans to protect their holy places. Anthropologists have surveyed the site and report that indeed it is an ancient burial ground, but that the people may be from a much older group than those presently claiming ancestry.

My research proposal is about immigrants. Immigrants are people who leave their native country in order to seek a better future for them in a foreign country. In most cases, immigrants move from impoverished to developed countries. There are many reasons why immigrants decide to leave their home for a new one; these reasons include unemployment, civil war, political persecution, famine, among others. Some immigrants seek new countries on a temporary basis until they can build up finances and move back home while others move with an aim of setting up a permanent residence in their new country. Immigrants face many challenges in the course of their migration, if they cannot afford an air ticket they have to brave perilous traveling by vehicle or by ocean and once at their destination they have to contend with hostility from the citizens. We have to be sensitive to the plight of the immigrants, in order to make the world a better place.
Immigration is a force that has defined the United States of America and is continuing to mold our nation until now. In the seventeenth century, America experienced a wave of immigration from the European nations of Ireland, Italy, and Germany. These immigrants provided a boost to the economy of America, they provided cheap labor for the industries and established many enterprises some of which are present up to today. The nation of America, Canada and other European nations still experience heavy immigration into their borders (Hogarth, 2015).
In America’s election year, immigration is one of the hot topics debated by the presidential candidates. Politicians are prone to sugarcoating, and stating falsehoods in order to satisfy their agenda, it is important to research on immigrants in order to have a strong foothold of the facts of the matter (Shapiro & Vellucci, 2010). Furthermore, being more knowledgeable about immigrants will enable us to construct better policy that adequately addresses the issue of immigration rather than just deporting them, when they have sacrificed so much to make it to their new home.
I am interested in immigrants and immigration because it is one of the forces continuously shaping the world. It is the nature of man to seek always a better future. In the past, the forces that pushed immigration were famine and war, during famine people moved to productive areas, during war people moved to peaceful lands (Grikorenko, 2007). The main cause of immigration now is unemployment and better wages. It pays to understand the impact that immigrants have on their home countries and the nations where they set up new homes, knowing this will help to stem the tide of anti-immigrant sentiments .

Regarding the solution below. The contribution margin mainly looks at the variable costs. What potential problems could result from the product's associated fixed costs?
In this case it is important to evaluate what the friend means by positive contribution as it can be lower and higher. It is important for the firm to have an overall high product contribution in order to maintain a high profit level. The contribution levels for all products must be analysed in order to calculate the contribution of each of the products to the overall profit level (Contribution Margin, (n.d)). Hence in these examples given above we see that if any product has a positive but low contribution, then that specific product must be dropped from production the respective year due to the lack of resources so that it does not dilute the high contribution level of other products and ultimately the overall contribution level. Hence the resources for each product is very important when it comes to the decision of dropping a product based on its contribution level as a product will have low contribution if the resources for the same are low. The risk of using such an analysis is that we lose out on unanticipated increase in demand of the product that is dropped. The benefit of this analysis is that we know which products to drop in order to maintain a high profit level for all the products that are produced by the company.

Abstract Wealth is a strong indicator of immigrant integration in U.S. society.
Drawing on new assimilation theory, we highlight the importance of racial/ethnic
group boundaries and propose different paths of wealth integration among U.S.
immigrants. Using data from the Survey of Income and Program Participation and
quantile regression, we show that race/ethnicity shapes immigrant wealth inequality
across the entire distribution of net worth, along with immigrants’ U.S. experience,
such as immigrant status, U.S. education, English language proficiency, and time
spent in the United States. Our results document consistent racial/ethnic inequality
among immigrants, also evidenced among the U.S. born, revealing that even when
accounting for key aspects of U.S. experience, wealth inequality with whites for
Latino and black immigrants is strong.

Introduction
Immigrants move to the United States for a variety of reasons, including the pursuit
of opportunities to improve their financial well-being (e.g., Portes and Rumbaut
2006; Smith and Edmonston 1997). A growing body of literature has focused on

signifies a unique set of resources that reflect financial attitudes and behaviors as
well as priorities, goals, and values (Hao 2007). Together, the various investments
within a financial portfolio represent a pool of resources that can be used to meet
short- and long-term needs and provide a number of additional financial advantages
(e.g., return on investment, investment collateral, transferability) (Keister 2000b,

Legal and illegal immigration into the United States is discussed in your textbook. Advocates of liberal immigration argue that both legal and illegal immigrants are needed to perform difficult and low paying jobs that most citizens won't take. Advocates also sympathize with immigrants because many of them are fleeing poverty and tyranny in their homelands. Immigrants pay taxes, help to support the US social security system, and contribute to American society.
Opponents of immigration include individuals that want to ban or significantly reduce all immigration, and those that simply want more stringent efforts to end illegal immigration. Opponents argue that current immigration policies and border patrol methods are too lenient and allow terrorists to infiltrate into the US.

This article critically examines the consumption experiences of Mexican immigrants
in the United States. An empirical model of Mexican immigrant consumer acculturation
is derived that consists of movement, translation, and adaptation processes leading
to outcomes of assimilation, maintenance, resistance, and segregation. By drawing
attention to the ways in which international movements of people, companies, and
products intersect within existing subcultural relations, this research provides a
more satisfactory account of the complex dynamic processes through which Mexican
immigrants adapt to the consumer environment in the United States.

Summary
Justin Pope writes ranks of Foreign students on US campuses published by community college Week in 2012. In the article, Pope discusses that there is a significant and rapid rise in the number of foreign students. There are a series of benefits and problems associated with this rise. The remarkable increase in the number of international students in the US universities is something that cannot be easily avoided and it is bound to continue with time (Pope, 2012). However, it is clear that this brings more benefits than problems. Initially, Pope talked about the rate at which international students in the US has risen over the last five years. This rise is prominently phenomenal, especially for Chinese students.
International enrollment at United States colleges and universities has grown nearly 6% in the last year. These numbers reflect the transformation of the nation’s public learning institutions in an era where there is notably diminished state support. A look at 25 campuses holding most international students reveals that a dozen of them have increased enrolment for international students by 40 percent in five years (Pope, 2012). This is according to data that has been collected by the institute of international education. Of all these campuses, only one is public where a significant number comes from the largest ten states including Indiana, Purdue, Ohio state and Michigan state as well as the Universities of Minnesota and Illinois.
Ambitious universities are highly appreciative of the global vibe as well as perspectives brought to their Midwestern campuses by international students. Tuition fees offered by international students make it possible for public universities to continue offering scholarships as well as financial assistance to domestic students (Pope, 2012). On a national scale, US campuses held 765,000 international students where China had 158,000 with the top score followed closely by India, South Korea and then Saudi Arabia. The presence of international students has a significant economic appeal, and this promotes their acceptance in a bid way.
Out of state recruitment, whether international or domestic is quite sensitive especially for public universities, this fuels charges that students of the in-state taxpayers are being denied available slots (Pope, 2012). Abstract Wealth is a strong indicator of immigrant integration in U.S. society.
Drawing on new assimilation theory, we highlight the importance of racial/ethnic
group boundaries and propose different paths of wealth integration among U.S.
immigrants. Using data from the Survey of Income and Program Participation and
quantile regression, we show that race/ethnicity shapes immigrant wealth inequality
across the entire distribution of net worth, along with immigrants’ U.S. experience,
such as immigrant status, U.S. education, English language proficiency, and time
spent in the United States. Our results document consistent racial/ethnic inequality
among immigrants, also evidenced among the U.S. born, revealing that even when
accounting for key aspects of U.S. experience, wealth inequality with whites for
Latino and black immigrants is strong.

Introduction
Immigrants move to the United States for a variety of reasons, including the pursuit
of opportunities to improve their financial well-being (e.g., Portes and Rumbaut
2006; Smith and Edmonston 1997). A growing body of literature has focused on

immigrants integrate into U.S. society (e.g., Akresh 2011; Hao 2004, 2007; Painter
2013, 2014; Painter and Qian Forthcoming). This focus is important because wealth
signifies a unique set of resources that reflect financial attitudes and behaviors as
well as priorities, goals, and values (Hao 2007). Together, the various investments
within a financial portfolio represent a pool of resources that can be used to meet
short- and long-term needs and provide a number of additional financial advantages
(e.g., return on investment, investment collateral, transferability) (Keister 2000b,
2005). How much wealth immigrants possess provides valuable insight into their
financial well-being and into how well they are integrating into U.S. society.

Legal and illegal immigration into the United States is discussed in your textbook. Advocates of liberal immigration argue that both legal and illegal immigrants are needed to perform difficult and low paying jobs that most citizens won't take. Advocates also sympathize with immigrants because many of them are fleeing poverty and tyranny in their homelands. Immigrants pay taxes, help to support the US social security system, and contribute to American society.
Opponents of immigration include individuals that want to ban or significantly reduce all immigration, and those that simply want more stringent efforts to end illegal immigration. Opponents argue that current immigration policies and border patrol methods are too lenient and allow terrorists to infiltrate into the US.

This article critically examines the consumption experiences of Mexican immigrants
in the United States. An empirical model of Mexican immigrant consumer acculturation
is derived that consists of movement, translation, and adaptation processes leading
to outcomes of assimilation, maintenance, resistance, and segregation. By drawing
attention to the ways in which international movements of people, companies, and
products intersect within existing subcultural relations, this research provides a
more satisfactory account of the complex dynamic processes through which Mexican
immigrants adapt to the consumer environment in the United States.

Summary
Justin Pope writes ranks of Foreign students on US campuses published by community college Week in 2012. In the article, Pope discusses that there is a significant and rapid rise in the number of foreign students. There are a series of benefits and problems associated with this rise. The remarkable increase in the number of international students in the US universities is something that cannot be easily avoided and it is bound to continue with time (Pope, 2012). However, it is clear that this brings more benefits than problems. Initially, Pope talked about the rate at which international students in the US has risen over the last five years. This rise is prominently phenomenal, especially for Chinese students.
International enrollment at United States colleges and universities has grown nearly 6% in the last year. These numbers reflect the transformation of the nation’s public learning institutions in an era where there is notably diminished state support. A look at 25 campuses holding most international students reveals that a dozen of them have increased enrolment for international students by 40 percent in five years (Pope, 2012). This is according to data that has been collected by the institute of international education. Of all these campuses, only one is public where a significant number comes from the largest ten states including Indiana, Purdue, Ohio state and Michigan state as well as the Universities of Minnesota and Illinois.
Ambitious universities are highly appreciative of the global vibe as well as perspectives brought to their Midwestern campuses by international students. Tuition fees offered by international students make it possible for public universities to continue offering scholarships as well as financial assistance to domestic students (Pope, 2012). On a national scale, US campuses held 765,000 international students where China had 158,000 with the top score followed closely by India, South Korea and then Saudi Arabia. The presence of international students has a significant economic appeal, and this promotes their acceptance in a bid way.
Out of state recruitment, whether international or domestic is quite sensitive especially for public universities, this fuels charges that students of the in-state taxpayers are being denied available slots (Pope, 2012). The article argues that it 's hard to prepare students for a global economy when they are not exposed to students from abroad.

Chapter 8 Summary
Chapter 8 looks at police behavior. Police behavior may be described from a universalistic perspective or a particularistic perspective. The universalistic perspective examines the ways in which police are similar. The particularistic perspective examines the way in which police differ from each other.
The universalistic perspective approaches police behavior from three perspectives. The sociological perspective emphasizes the social context in which the police are hired and trained. The psychological perspective examines the nature of the police personality. The organizational perspective is concerned with the formal and informal factors of the department.
Particularistic perspectives examine the different policing styles discovered through research. Worden (1989) suggests that there are five ways in which police differ from one another. Police are different in their view of human nature, role orientation, and attitudes toward legal and departmental restrictions. Worden also found that the beliefs and behavior of the police are influenced by their clientele. The final difference involves the relationship between management and peer group support.
Socialization theory maintains that it is the work experience and the peers that determine police behavior. The formal socialization takes place during training the new officer. The informal socialization takes places as the new officer interacts with experienced fellow officers.
Pre-dispositional theory states that the values and characteristics the officer had before employment are brought with him or her to the job. Research indicates that police have different values from the rest of society. Racial and ethnic differences, education, and police socialization does little to changes pre-dispositional values.
There have been numerous studies conducted looking at police behavior. This chapter recognizes that these studies are just as important today as they were decades ago. Westley's
Violence and the Police
(1970) discussed in-group solidarity among the police and the code of silence found to exist in policing. Skolnick's
Justice Without Trial
(1966) examined the danger in police work. Skolnick termed the person the police officer thinks is potentially dangerous the symbolic assailant.

Human services is a profession developing in

human needs and human problems in the late twentieth
century. Characterized particularly by an appreciation
of human beings in all of their diversity,
human services offer assistance to its clients within
the context of their community and environment.
Human service professionals and those who educate
them, regardless of whether they are students, faculty
or practitioners, promote and encourage the unique
values and characteristics of human services. In so
doing, human service professionals and educators
uphold the integrity and ethics of the profession, partake
in constructive criticism of the profession, promote
client and community well-being, and enhance
their own professional growth.
The ethical guidelines presented are a set of standards
of conduct which the human service professionals
and educators consider in ethical and
professional decision making. It is hoped that these
guidelines will be of assistance when human service
professionals and educators are challenged by difficult
ethical dilemmas.
Although ethical codes are not legal documents,
they may be used to assist in the adjudication of
issues related to ethical human service behavior.
Section I—Standards of Human Service Professionals
Human service professionals function in many
ways and carry out many roles. They enter into
professional-client relationships with individuals,
families, groups and communities who are all referred
to as “clients” in these standards. Among their roles
are caregiver, case manager, broker, teacher/educator,
behavior changer, consultant, outreach professional,
mobilizer, advocate, community planner, community
change organizer, evaluator and administrator
(SREB, 1967). The following standards are written
with these multifaceted roles in mind.
The Human Service Professional’s Responsibility
to Clients

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
