Migration refers to the movement of people between locations. In 2010, there were an estimated 214 million international migrants globally. In 2006 in the EU-27, about 3.5 million people settled in a new country of residence, with the largest increases in Ireland and Spain. Spain, Germany, and the UK received over half of all immigrants, who were predominantly non-EU citizens under 29 years of age. Asian migration to Europe has grown, particularly Chinese migrants, though secondary migration has occurred between countries within and outside Europe.
