Sanskrit term meaning the living
embodiment of a god. Neal
Stephenson in his book Snowcrash
popularized this term to mean
online representation of self.
Often used interchangeably by
gamers with toon, alt, or
character.

19. TOON
'Toon' is a term used
gamers, especially players of
massively multiplayer online role
playing games (MMORPG) for a
player character in the game.
The term is a shortened form of
cartoon.

20. ALTs and Mains
• Alternate character, a
secondary character in
a MMORPG. MMORPGs
often allow for multiple
characters. An Alt is
distinguished from a
“Main.” A Main is
usually the primary
character one plays.

21. What is a gravatar?
“Your Gravatar is an image that follows you
from site to site appearing beside your name
when you do things like comment or post on a
blog.”

22. 1st Person
Shooter
• FPSs show a first person
perspective, that renders the game
world from the visual perspective of
the player character.
• You will typically not see your
avatar unless there is a mirror or
cinematic.

23. Third Person Shooter
• Third-person shooter (TPS) is a
genre of video games where the
player character is seen at a
distance from a number of different
possible perspective angles.
• Common angle is looking over
character’s right shoulder

24. NPC
• Non-player character, a
character in a role-playing
game or video game who
is controlled by the game
rather than by a player.
