This document provides an overview of the File Classification Infrastructure (FCI) capabilities in Windows Server 2008 R2. FCI allows administrators to automatically and manually classify files based on properties like location and contents. It provides out-of-the-box capabilities for expiring files, running custom management tasks, and generating classification reports. FCI also includes extensibility for independent software vendors and IT departments to build additional classification and data management solutions. The FCI framework persists file classifications across applications and can integrate with Microsoft SharePoint.
