Water is essential for life and makes up a large portion of living organisms. It serves several functions in the human body including transporting nutrients and regulating temperature. Several microorganisms can be found in drinking water supplies including Cryptosporidium, Anabaena, rotifers, E. coli, and Salmonella which can cause illness. There are various methods for purifying water such as boiling, exposure to sunlight, chlorination, and coagulation/flocculation which remove microbes and make water safe for drinking.
