Rural areas face pollution issues from sources like agriculture, forestry, and septic tanks. Key pollutants include nutrients, sediment, pesticides, and pathogens. Objectives aim to achieve good water quality. Assessing current status versus objectives and potential trends under business as usual is needed to determine what actions may bridge any gaps. A hierarchy of advice, incentives, and regulation can be used to achieve objectives. New initiatives further address rural pollution problems through demonstration projects and catchment-based approaches.

A Producer’s Perspective: Agriculture and Nitrogen Deposition in Rocky Mounta...LPE Learning Center
Proceedings Available at: http://www.extension.org/67641
The efforts related to Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park are voluntary, yet there are nitrogen reduction targets, or milestones, established over five year increments out to the year 2032. If a milestone is not met, mandatory controls could follow. How can the proactive emissions reduction efforts being taken by livestock and crop producers today be recognized or credited should mandatory controls be required at some future date? For example, could an agriculture certainty framework (used more for water quality protection/nutrient runoff) be used to validate actions being taken today for air quality purposes? How might an ag certainty program work and what partners should be at the table? Are there other approaches that states are using or researching that Colorado should consider?
Jenny Deakin from the EPA Catchments Unit gave a Teagasc Signpost Seminar on April 20 2021. The seminar covered water quality, focused on the agricultural sector, and the solutions needed to improve water quality, and new tools to target the right measure in the right place. This includes upgraded Pollution Impact Potential Maps for Nitrogen and Phosphorus, together with overland flow and focused delivery points.

Most of the World's Public water has become undrinkable due to sewage infiltration into ground water. Unless something is done now to restore the environment and curb pollution, the future will be challenged in terms of meeting the World's water demands, especially in the light of Climate Change!

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
