Severin is an ambitious and experienced designer. And when Intersection Railways called for a major overhaul of a part of their product and service portfolio, they set out for making an impact. Severin brought together all the stakeholders, they set an ambitious goal to significantly shift the customer’s experience, and with their team they researched, prototyped and mapped out a better future journey.
But then it fell apart. That reorganisation messed up the responsibilities. Many customer insights turned out to be just assumptions. The IT change was too hard, the regulations were too constraining. And their stakeholders were not that convinced after all. What just happened?
Design at scale is hard. In this session, Milan will show how Severin reengages his co-creators to tackle the true scope of the change required, including organisation, operations, and ecosystem partners. Using a set of recurring patterns and a set of maps, they open the conversation to the target Enterprise Design: what we can do, where to go next, and what to change to get there. Mauricio Manhães: Three Overarching Perspectives for Service Design
Over the last two decades, service design has steadily attracted adopters from both practitioner and academic realms. The diverse origins of these adopters pose challenges for the further advancement of the discipline. To address one of those challenges, an automated text analysis technique was used to identify discursive elements of service design practitioners’ narrative to address organizational change. The findings identified three basins of meaning in the discursive construction of service design practitioners: STORIES, TEAM, and IMPLEMENTING. It also identified a strong lack of consistency of service design discursive elements regarding implementation.

Companies and other organisations know they need to switch perspective: from inside-out to outside-in, from optimising productivity and operations to understanding their customer's experience and spotting opportunities. Beyond measuring satisfaction or getting creative for new products and services, how to inform our strategic choices by looking at the enterprise from the customer's eye?
Modelling customer experience helps organisations change their perspective. But answers don't magically fall out of a map or a persona. Instead, we must facilitate conversations with all relevant co-creators to establish a shared understanding of what really matters to customers – and what that means for our own priorities, activities and desired outcomes as an enterprise.
In this webinar, Jim Kalbach and Milan Guenther will show how to use an experience lens to identify customer priorities and needs, and how to collaboratively interpret and map out these insights to create a common understanding. Starting out from strong customer-driven approaches such as Jobs-to-be-Done and Top Task Identification, they will demonstrate how to use align on value created to make the link to key choices in product and service design, business architecture and organisational change.

Designing an Organization’s KM Journey
Organizations across the world are grappling with how to maximize the knowledge that their employees have access to. They face similar core business challenges related to knowledge management (KM):
- Staff can’t easily find useful and relevant information, when they need it.

Agility is here to stay. But dig a little deeper and you will see that fundamental strategic, structural and cultural issues exist that often prevent success within large organizations. I was recently asked by a new-ways-of-working team to help them apply business design to create the target operating model needed to enable structural, operational and strategic agility. Is this the secret sauce that’s been missing in the agility conversations?
In this talk I’ll discuss the broader issues around agility when creating the adaptive and fast learning organization. And discuss the "secret sauce" that is missing when it comes to business heuristics and patterns.
I will also look at the areas where agility is succeeding and failing and discuss the need for multi-disciplinary architects that can help with the transition across strategic, business and delivery lenses.

Designing an Organization’s KM Journey
Organizations across the world are grappling with how to maximize the knowledge that their employees have access to. They face similar core business challenges related to knowledge management (KM):
- Staff can’t easily find useful and relevant information, when they need it.
- There is a lack of trust that the information their staff come across is complete, up-to-date, and accurate.
- Collaboration is hindered by silos.
- Expertise, best practices, and lessons learned aren’t exchanged in a way that could drive innovation and creativity.
- Knowledge is “walking out the door” when people leave.
- Onboarding processes aren’t supporting new staff in getting acclimated effectively.
While many organizations face similar business challenges, how these challenges emerge and look within an organization vary based on its culture and operating environment. Agility is here to stay. But dig a little deeper and you will see that fundamental strategic, structural and cultural issues exist that often prevent success within large organizations. Some organizations have learnt the hard way when it comes to the missing pieces of the puzzle around organizational agility.
I was recently asked by a new-ways-of-working team to help them apply business design to create the target operating model needed to enable structural, operational and strategic agility. Is this the secret sauce that’s been missing in the agility conversations?
In this talk I’ll discuss the broader issues around agility when creating the adaptive and fast learning organization. And discuss the "secret sauce" that is missing when it comes to business heuristics and patterns.
I will also look at the areas where agility is succeeding and failing and discuss the need for multi-disciplinary architects that can help with the transition across strategic, business and delivery lenses.

It is with great pleasure that we extend to you an invitation to the 5th Power Grid Model Meet-up, scheduled for 6th June 2024. This event will adopt a hybrid format, allowing participants to join us either through an online Mircosoft Teams session or in person at TU/e located at Den Dolech 2, Eindhoven, Netherlands. The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology.
Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
