This document summarizes Mexico's first CO2 transcritical supermarket system installed at a Casa Ley store in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. The 75,400 square foot store uses a CO2 booster system with a gas cooler and compressor rack to power display cases. Compared to a traditional HFC system, the CO2 system was projected to use 6.8% less energy per year and have a 75% lower total emissions impact, though it requires a 47.4% larger refrigerant charge. The installation of high-pressure CO2 components presented some challenges, but maintenance costs were expected to be similar with additional cleaning of the gas cooler pads.
