BDPA Executive Officer of the Year Award: presented to one of the five vice presidents. Chapter president is ineligible.
BDPA Corporate Sponsor of the Year: This is the highest award that our chapter gives to a corporation. It is for a corporation that has made significant contributions to the programs and activities of BDPA. They demonstrate that partnerships between non-profits and Corporate America can be fruitful for all involved. The contributions include the provisions of facilities, monetary support, experienced council and manpower. Only our official Corporate Sponsors are eligible for this award.
BDPA Director of the Year: presented to one of our 16 Department Directors. None of the executive officers are eligible to win this award. Award is based on quality and quantity of the leadership provided by the director. Measurements of success will include, but aren’t limited to, the achievement of the annual goals for that director’s department.
BDPA Spirit Award: presented to the chapter member who best displays the spirit of the organization. This member contributes first for the good of others.
BDPA Member of the Year: this is the highest membership award presented by the BDPA Cincinnati Chapter. It is reserved for the chapter member who has stretched beyond many boundaries to support the organization, its mission and its objectives. This member has made available their time, resources and talents to assist BDPA in fulfilling our goals.

BDPA seeks to have more students in college studying STEM-related disciplines. BDPA created the BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) in 1992 for the purpose of giving college scholarships to deserving high school students. Over 200 college scholarships valued at over $467,000 have been handed out by BDPA and BETF. In addition, BDPA created two programs that feature college students - IT Showcase (2003) and Mobile Application Showcase (2014). BDPA began the process to bridge the ‘digital divide’ before the term was widely known. BDPA recognizes that to close the gap of computer and technology literacy, minority youth must participate and compete in today’s digital economy. Otherwise, our youth run the risk of being obsolete in America’s workforce.
The BDPA college student program is intellectually challenging and builds self-esteem through the mastery of applied computer science. We create a foundation for academic and career success.

We were invited to meet with a review team to answer questions about our grant proposal. This is the PowerPoint deck that we used for the review meeting.

Oracle knows talented individuals drive success, and they are willing to encourage positive workforce development through organizations such as BDPA. As such, Oracle made decision to offer the 10th Annual Oracle Scholarship for BDPA Students again this year. The scholarship application period goes through July 15 2018.
These scholarships are available to high school students (grade 12), community college students and undergraduate college students. The student must be studying in STEM-related curriculum. The student must be a BDPA member in good standing on or before the July 15th deadline. BDPA student membership is $25 annually.
Past Oracle scholars were helped by this funding as well as the BDPA programs and services made available to them at the local chapter level. The purpose of the Eli Lilly and Company Scholarship for BDPA Students is to recognize outstanding minority students, with an interest in information technology, who make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, show exceptional leadership potential, and make an impact on their communities through service to others.
Lilly/BDPA Scholars will be awarded a one-time $2,500 scholarship that may be used to pursue an information technology focused degree at an accredited four-year college or university of their choice. The Lilly/BDPA scholarship may be used to supplement benefits from the college or university a student plans to attend and fellowships from other foundations or organizations. Students may use the scholarship to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, room and board, and other college-related expenses.
Scholarship winners will be selected based on the completed application, official transcript, essay, letters of recommendation, and involvement in the BDPA organization.

I. Purpose
The Johnson & Johnson Scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance of a matriculated student, rising sophomore or higher enrolled at a 4 year accredited college/university full time. The objective of this scholarship is to support students who are committed to their academic studies and demonstrate evidence of being a good citizen as stated in the Johnson & Johnson Credo.
II. Criteria/Eligibility
An applicant must be a matriculated student, rising sophomore or higher, enrolled at a 4 year accredited college/university working full time towards their undergraduate degree within the US. The scholarship committee will review completed applications and awards will be made on the basis of the following criteria:
• Proven academic performance – minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Strong and consistent community involvement
• Currently enrolled in a STEM-related major (with emphasis on Info Technology)
• Past recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to apply
III. Award Description
The Johnson & Johnson Scholarship Committee will award $2,500 one-time only scholarships for a rising sophomore or higher of 4 year accredited college or university.
IV. Application Deadline
The completed application, typed essay, two letters of recommendation, official transcript, and resume must be received by the Johnson & Johnson Scholarship Committee, please scan and send all documents via email to RA-JJCUS-BDPA@its.jnj.com no later than Sunday, June 1, 2018. Only complete packets will be accepted. Please do not send multiple emails with various documents. It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to take the necessary action and precautions to insure that the completed application packet is received by the deadline.

The objective of the Wanda Everett BDPA Scholarship is to award $2,500 to an outstanding student in the St. Louis metropolitan area that has an interest in pursuing or continuing 4-year academic program related to Information Technology.
The National BDPA Individual PACESetter Awards recognize members who have demonstrated exceptional results in one of the three (3) categories below. Nominations are accepted and evaluated by a team of National BDPA members in accordance with the descriptions below. We are proud to host our BDPA Connect Virtual Career Fair on October 25-26, 2017. We plan to connect candidates and employers to fill important technology positions and promote your diversity initiatives in information technology, computer science and related STEM fields.
BDPA Connect is a two-day virtual recruiting operation sponsored by BDPA, Pink Tech, VetJobs and Professional Diversity Network. Technology candidates from across the USA will be invited to search opportunities of participating employers.

BDPA Triangle chapter held its SITES Technology Academy kicked off in March 2016. Students attended class for 12 weeks from 9am - 1pm. IT professionals volunteered, and lead the comprehensive program to provide 20 students with the Internet technology skills to solve essential business problems in a global economy.
The National BDPA Mobile App Showcase, co-sponsored by McDonald's, State Farm Insurance and WWT, allows student application developers the opportunity to participate in a competition that allows them to an opportunity to test their talents against others and develop a working, functional mobile application, at no cost to themselves. The applications being showcased will represent three different application categories (i.e. business, personal productivity, and gaming). Each category will have stringent requirements to be met in advance to the showcase.
BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) is proud to support Information Technology Senior Management Forum (ITSMF) Educational Scholarship Foundation. They seek to provide 5 scholarships to college-level students who are engaged in STEM-related disciplines. These scholarships will be awarded to students who have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours. Students are recognized for their academics, aptitude to lead and serve and their commitment to further their education.
Five (5) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in honor of five (5) ITSMF Fellows and one $5,000 scholarships in honor of ITSMF's Chair Emeritus, Carl Williams.

Year of Atlanta (YOA); Making History!
We kicked off the third quarter making history at the National BDPA Conference in Baltimore,
MD. I am very honored and proud to announce the Atlanta BDPA National High School
Computer Competition (HSCC) Team won 1st Place!
Our students made several historical moments with this win. In the 27 years of the competition,
the first time
Atlanta has won 1st place,
a team received a perfect score on programming,
a person has won 1st place as a student and a coordinator; Wesley Williams!
On behalf of the Student Program of Atlanta BDPA and the entire Atlanta BDPA chapter, I would
like to thank everyone for their support because you helped to make this possible. Our sponsors
and individual donors were instrumental in our students attending the national competition this
year. The chapter looks forward to everyone’s continued support in the upcoming years.
2. We continued making history by continuing to provide more webinars than any other chapter.
In this quarter, we provided webinars on 3FE, Entrepreneurship, Software Engineering in
Aerospace, The State of BDPA, and HSCC-Recap of 2012 National Conference. Attendees learned
how to: Lock That Job with using the 3FE approach (Find, Focus, and ) with Derrick Brown; Start
and maintain an IT business and determining if entrepreneurship is really for them with Chiadi
Obi; develop software in safety critical systems like an airplane with Alphonse Porter; The
Atlanta Leadership Team also presented The State of BDPA, a mid-year year in review, openly
discussing our roadmap, accomplishments, and failures; and the instructors, volunteers, parents
and students of the HSCC team discussed their experiences at the 2012 National BDPA
Conference. At our monthly program meeting in September, we continued to educate our
members and future members on Big Data with Dr. Craig Brown leading an informative lecture
and discussion on the trend of interacting with big data in the IT world.
Macy's Systems & Technology gave everyone an opportunity to wind down by sponsoring a
Summer Mixer at Abbotts Old Towne Tavern & Grill. We had a great evening of networking. Our
members and guests also had the opportunity to 'give back' through our community
outreach event, by donating back-to-school supplies and providing canned food for The Bridge
Builders & Norcross Co-op organizations. Our outreach in the community continued as we got
“down and dirty" at Atlanta Community Food Bank’s community garden. The Food Bank
supports a wide range of people in need, from children to the working poor. Food pantries,
3. community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters, and senior centers are among the
agencies that receive products from the organization; and provide food and other critical
resources for low-income Georgians who suffer from hunger and food insecurity.
Our final historical moment was when Next Level Technology Foundation, Inc. hosted the
inaugural Black IT Executive Forum as a fundraising event for BDPA - HSCC. The event was the
first of its kind in Atlanta, focusing on senior African-American IT professionals and their journey
to their current roles. The panelists were Monique Berry (President, NBDPA), Michael Fisher
(SVP - Ceridian), Derek Johnson (CIO, SED International), Curtis Rawlings (Interim CIO, Dekalb
County), Darius Jackson Ryals (GVP - Wyndham Worldwide), Lee Scott (VP – Macy’s Systems &
Technology) and moderated by Mike Williams (SVP - FIS & NBDPA - Dir, South Region);
they served as mentors and inspirations. The event raised $2,700; $1,400 for BDPA and $1,300
for HSCC.
4. I know I wrote in the paragraph above ‘final historical moment’, but if you don’t know anything
about the Atlanta Leadership team, please know this: Nothing is EVER ‘final’ with us. Besides,
we have another quarter to go…YOA!
