The 19th Annual BDPA Cincinnati Education Banquet celebrated the evolution of IT and recognized volunteers, sponsors, and students in the community for their contributions. The event featured keynote remarks by Rodney Williams, CEO of LISNR, and focused on building a stronger technological future through education and mentorship for minority youth. BDPA Cincinnati continues its mission to create opportunities in the STEM fields to bridge the digital divide and foster professional growth among African Americans.

4. President’s Message
In continuing the theme from the 37th Annual Technology
Conference held in Washington, DC during the month of Au-
gust, our 19th Annual Education Awards Banquet also places
focus on “Evolution of IT: Embracing the Digital Future”.
As we welcome each of the students, parents, volunteers,
sponsors, and community friends who have gathered to share
in this event, I encourage you to take some time to get to
know each of the young game changers who are already help-
ing to shape our digital future. Our brief highlights of these developing entrepreneurs,
CEO’s, business men and women, and visionaries should inspire you to the bright fu-
ture that lays ahead in the evolution of information technology. Take the time to see
the spark of innovation that glows and shines brightly in each of them, listen to their
creative thoughts of wonder and imagination driven by passion and excellence in exe-
cution and recognize, these young people are serious about changing the world! Think
of how you can help them reach their goals, share your business card with them, ex-
change emails and connect with them now – for as they have already embraced the
digital future, those closest to them will be amongst the first to see the new world they
will shape and bring from concept and ideas to concrete and actualization!
For over 40 years, the BDPA organization has focused on the “way cool” areas of Sci-
ence, Technology, Engineering, and Math and has been at the forefront of the global
effort to improve the diversity of individuals in these S.T.E.M. fields, long before the rest
of the world really embraced this obvious need and obligation. The volunteers and
students who investment in our youth, such as through this event tonight, not only
demonstrate through their actions the belief in delivering on the BDPA mission, but
also the belief in our youth and each other. No one person “makes it” on their own, it
takes a team, a village, a community, to bring just one person “from the classroom to
the boardroom”. As you look around the room tonight, be aware that this small village,
this small community of people in the room, is just a representation of the larger vil-
lage and the larger community that stands behind these students, these volunteers,
and these supporters. These students will join more students heading into 2016 as we
endeavor to take an even larger team to compete at the 38th National Convention in
Atlanta, GA and we hope many of you will be there to support their efforts at bringing
home even more scholarships!
Thank you all for coming and sharing your time, your talent, and your resources to
further our collective goal of building stronger technology bridges within our communi-
ties that our youth can leverage to worlds yet unimagined.

Rodney Williams, Founder/CEO of
LISNR, leads one of the hottest com-
panies in the IoT space that intends
to disrupt the mobile industry with a
new communication protocol that is
the most efficient way to connect
any device with a speaker or micro-
phone.
Fresh out of the R/GA Accelerator
powered by Techstars, and recently
named on the 2015 CNBC Disruptor List, Williams is an innovative
and out-of-the-box strategic thinker who is always looking for new
ways for brands to have the greatest impact on their consumers.
Prior to LISNR, Williams spent over 4 years at Procter & Gamble as
a brand manager and is most noted for being the first marketer to
co-write digital patents. Williams holds an M.B.A. and Masters in
Integrated Marketing Communications from Howard University.

6. Master of Ceremonies
Mr. R. Wayne Hicks is currently the
executive director of the BDPA Educa-
tion & Technology Foundation (BETF),
the non-profit fundraising arm for
BDPA, the national IT association that
is dedicated to advancing the careers
of African Americans in the IT industry,
from the classroom to the boardroom.
Mr. Hicks has been an active leader in
BDPA since he joined in 1988 and has
served in virtually every leadership position on both the local and na-
tional level, including as national president and president of the
BDPA Cincinnati Chapter.
Mr. Hicks is the Inclusive Competitiveness Coordinator for the Believe
in Ohio (BiO) Urban STEM Mentor Network in Southwest Ohio. The
Urban STEM Mentor Network will support Ohio's next generation of
innovators to create new products, services and jobs through the ap-
plication of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. BiO
is the only statewide Ohio student education program to integrate
entrepreneurship and innovation as pathways to job-creation.
Finally, Mr. Hicks also owns Hicks Enterprises, a consulting firm
based in Cincinnati that focuses on Internet online marketing, leader-
ship consultation and product sales. Earlier in his career, Mr. Hicks
served as president/CEO of the Cincinnati Business Incubator, and as
the Director of the Cincinnati Submission Processing Center (CSPC)
for the Internal Revenue Service in Covington, Kentucky. Mr. Hicks
received a BA in political science from the University of California,
Riverside. He is active on a number of community-based initiatives
including CincyTech USA and Cincinnati Creates Companies.

Our History
Our Beginning . . . In 1989 several professional African Americans were approached at
Digital Equipment Corporation by the BDPA Dayton chapter president. Our strategy was
to approach individuals affiliated or associated with Cincinnati-based Fortune 500 com-
panies in order to gain a business community perspective as well as insight, into the
needs and potential value of BDPA.
Our Support . . . In our search to gain insight and perspective we reached out to the
Cincinnati business community and other social or civic organizations. Eventually, five
people stepped up as co-founders of BDPA Cincinnati chapter -- Gina Billings, Charles
Cooper, Everett Gregory, Brenda Johnson and Neal Johnson. These visionaries were
willing to donate their time, talent and treasure to bring the BDPA concept to the African
American community in Cincinnati. They made the official request that National BDPA
accept our charter as a new chapter. BDPA Cincinnati chapter was officially chartered
in December 1989 as a member of the National BDPA Board of Directors.
Our Success . . . The current success of the chapter is due to a restructuring in Septem-
ber 1998. Gina Billings, Wayne Hicks, Brenda Hogan, Tina Welch and Marilyn Wilson
made the decision to rejuvenate the Chapter. These five visionaries met weekly for the
remainder of 1998 putting together the organizational plans and goals for 1999. BDPA
Cincinnati Chapter re-opened its doors in January 1999 with our first program meeting
since 1997. There were approximately a dozen guests at that initial program meeting
and we ended the month with six (6) financially current members. As we continued to
provide adult education opportunities through those monthly program meetings, we also
added quarterly technical & professional workshops. In 2000, a Youth Technology Semi-
nar series was added. Currently, BDPA Cincinnati is the largest chapter in the nation
with over 250 members!
Our Recognition . . . BDPA Cincinnati chapter has been recognized for its` many commu-
nity outreach programs and services. Our success is the culmination of the efforts of all
chapter volunteers, supporters and sponsors. These accomplishments would not have
been possible without the support of our Board of Directors, the members and the Cor-
porate Advisory Council. These people have quietly and consistently given their time,
talent and energy to build BDPA Cincinnati chapter! These men & women of all races,
ages, and gender have made a commitment to excellence with their BDPA involvement.
We will continue to grow, prosper, and provide support to the membership and the com-
munity. Our chapter has won numerous individual and chapter awards over the years
including the highest honor awarded to any chapter, ‘Chapter of the Year’ four times
(2001, 2002, 2004 and 2006). Our chapter was the runner-up for that highest honor
another five times (2000, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009).
Our National Organization . . . BDPA is a national organization with 47 local chapters
located within 4 regions throughout the United States. Earl Pace and David Wimberly

Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship Program
The next few years will present many exciting careers in technology for
those who are prepared to accept the challenge. We will all need to under-
stand; invent; and use technology to create the exciting new world of the
future. The fields Information Technology, Computer Science and Engineer-
ing are among the most lucrative in today's job market!
BDPA offers a series of technology learning experiences for students. The
entry level BDPA Computer Camp program offers:

Advanced Experience: BDPA supports three advanced training programs:
High School Computer Competition (HSCC)
 31 Week Program
 Class for highly motivated students
 Proficiency in computer operation Required
 Students selected after completion of initial Camp
 Course of study is designed to prepare students for National
BDPA HSCC Championship
 Top teams receive scholarship money
2015 SITES Program
Entry-Level Experience: BDPA Computer Camp
The 2016 High School Computer Camp orientation for all programs and
registration will begin on Saturday, January 9, 2016 9:00AM -2:00PM. Clas-
ses will be held at Cincinnati State Technical College. The initial meet-
ing will be held in Room ATLC 211 (Auditorium ). One parent is expected
to attend from 9:00 -10:00 to complete the registration process. Registra-
tion fee is $65.00. The program will run 13 weeks (January 9 thru April 2,
2016)
All classes take place at Cincinnati State in Room ATLC 211 (Auditorium)
from 9:00am – 2:00pm.
