Mentoring is defined as a professional relationship where an experienced person assists another in developing skills and knowledge to enhance their professional and personal growth. It is a relationship that changes over time as both people grow and learn. A mentor teaches mentees specific issues, coaches skills, facilitates growth through sharing resources and challenges them outside their comfort zone in a safe learning environment focused on total development. Effective mentors are approachable, share information openly, have good communication skills, are trustworthy, and provide appropriate feedback and expertise while being motivating and sensitive to mentee needs.
