Artificial intelligence has
become a red-hot topic for
the board room as it has
the capacity to quickly
solve complex problems
while still offering huge
cost saving efficiencies.
Like many, I’m hugely excited
about its potential but also acutely
aware of the overblown media hype
that surrounds it. While AI certainly has the
potential to help identify a cure for cancer and
end global food shortages, it’s not likely to do
either any time soon.
Instead, AI is invisibly becoming an integral
part of our daily lives. It already powers
Google’s search, serves up personalised
suggestions on Amazon and Netflix, detects
faces in photos and makes sense of the verbal
commands we give our smartphones.
AI techniques are playing major roles in
science and medicine, helping physicians
understand which patients are at the highest
risk of complications and finding important
needles in the massive data haystacks.
AI has the potential to create deep structural
shifts in business models yet as these take
place, the very nature of the workplace
and employment will change. We’re seeing
glimpses of this with the development
of chatbots to replace human call centre
operators and self-driving vehicles that are
predicted to decimate haulage jobs. As AI
improves, a much broader set of ‘thinking’
rather than ‘doing’ jobs is likely to be affected
and maybe even replaced by AI.
As we consider all of this, it is worth
remembering Amara’s law that “We tend to
overestimate the effect of a technology in
the short run and underestimate the effect
in the long run.” It’s exciting to imagine the
possibilities of AI but what happens when this
technology surpasses human abilities and
knowledge? While this isn’t a pressing issue in
2017, now is certainly the time to safeguard
against a future where we will no longer be the
smartest species on the planet.

One of the best ways to understand the investment potential of IoT is to have insights regarding the market growth potential and the earning power of specific technologies, business sectors or companies. Patent information can provide many valuable insights that can be exploited for finding investment potential of IoT. Most of all, patents can provide insights regarding the state of the art and future direction of IoT innovation for the specific technologies (e.g., Smart UI/UX, Autonomous Vehicles, M2M Connectivity), products/services (e.g., Smart Homes, Healthcare/Medical Devices, Connected Cars, Big Data Analytics) and companies (e.g., Apple, Cisco, IBM, Qualcomm, Samsung). Patents also can provide insights regarding a new company to become play a leading role in the emerging IoT market. Furthermore, patents can provide insights regarding emerging disruptive IoT products/Services by providing IoT products with new performance/value proposition attributes that may not previously have been valued by existing end users (e.g., convergence with other technologies to create synergies). Therefore, one can find the specific IoT technologies, business sectors or companies for investment opportunities in venture capital funding, M&A, patent/technology acquisition/monetization, leveraged buyout and stock investment. Following illustrates some examples of IoT technologies, business sectors and companies for potential investment opportunities that are obtained from patent information.

2014 Global Trend Forecast (Technology, Media & Telecoms)CM Research
In this report, the third volume in our "Global TMT Trend Forecast" series, we identify the major disruptive technologies that we will see in 2014 and predict how they will impact the world’s largest technology, media and telecom (TMT) companies.
Inside, we split the global TMT sector into 17 subsectors (e.g. connected devices, consumer electronics, semiconductors, e-commerce, social media, software, telecom operators, etc.) and examine how emerging technology themes will impact each sector, highlighting the likely winners and losers. Behind many of the themes mentioned in this report we have published in-depth research reports supporting our thinking. Here, we bring all these themes together. Our objective is to offer investors and industry executives a comprehensive trend forecast for the global TMT sector over the next 12 months.
If you only read one TMT Trends report this year, make sure it is this one.

A review recent trends in world and indian telecom marketIAEME Publication
The world market has changed almost beyond recognition over the last twenty years.
The recent trends in the world telecom market are: increase in private ownership,
competition, data based mobile and global communication, trade and finance oriented
operators, and rapid increase in subscribers from the developing nations. Several of these
trends (such as increase in privatization, competition, mobile communication, digital
divide) also exist in the Indian submarket. The submarkets of the world telecom market
are mainly classified according to geographical location, and according to the technology
used. India comes under the Asia Pacific geographical submarket. India had a traditional
telecom market, which was dominated by public sector monopoly till 1990. Later, it was
privatized by bits and pieces and now allows private sector participation in almost all the
sectors of telecom in the nation. It has a rapidly increasing subscriber base. It allows investor
friendly environment and has set up regulatory bodies to ensure justice to all players. In brief,
the present Indian telecom sector is marked by choice, competition, subscriber growth,
improvement in quality and service, and a shift from monopoly to oligopoly to true
competition.

Information Technology that drives growth in Telecommunications.pdfAnil
The relationship between IT and Telecom
Today, telecommunications has evolved to facilitate communication through computers, cloud-based technology, and similar other advanced IT technologies that were unimaginable even a decade ago. People no longer need to be in the office to connect with their teammates, VoIP systems can be integrated with an app to make connections quicker! Thus, enabling a tech-savvy ecosystem that facilitates improved employee experience and higher productivity for a business.
Role of IT in the Telecom Industry:
1. Cloud Computing
Cloud networking inherently simplifies and speeds up networking functionalities through the use of virtual routers, bridges, and adapters. Telecoms are leveraging this property of cloud computing to create Virtualized Radio Access Networks (vRAN) facilitating agility, flexibility, and efficiency in mobile networks.
2. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)
Three out of four business executives believe that AI will drive efficiency in the future says Harvard Business Review (HBR). Innovative and forward-facing providers are already pairing AI with ML and other emerging technologies to improve learning, optimize performance, and enhance consumer satisfaction. The role of IT-based services like data science and analytics, in the telecom industry, is what brings services like customized UX and predictive maintenance to end-users.
3. Natural Language Processing (NLP)
For every minute a customer waits to resolve their problem, the Consumer Service Index (CSI) takes a dive. Walmart resolved this issue with the help of NLP powered by telecom services. Their bot now resolves up to 90% of consumer queries.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

9. Main Topics
Next Generation Mobile Networks
Mobile computing is all around us, not only when we use smartphones to connect with friends and family across
countries, but also in ticketing systems on buses and trains, purchase food from mobile vendors, watch videos, and
listen to music on phones and portable music playing devices. As a result, mobile computing systems must rise to the
demand; the needs of mobile customers can outstrip the infrastructure's capacities and result in degraded performance.
Researchers must develop tools, middleware, and applications that can help with these quality-of-service issues.
Smart Machines (Smart Cars)
Smart machine era will blossom with a proliferation of contextually aware, intelligent personal assistants, smart
advisors (such as IBM Watson), advanced global industrial systems and public availability of early examples of
autonomous smart vehicles, and air drones. The smart machine era will be the most disruptive in the history of IT. New
systems that begin to fulfill some of the earliest visions for what information technologies might accomplish — doing
what we thought only people could do and machines could not —are now finally emerging.
The internet of things
The Internet is expanding beyond PCs and mobile devices into enterprise assets such as field equipment, and consumer
items such as cars and televisions. Identifiable objects are seamlessly integrated into the information network, the Web
of Things takes advantage of mobile devices' and sensors' ability to observe and monitor environments, increasing the
coordination between things in the real world and their counterparts on the Web. Intelligent solutions are required to
enable connectivity, inter-networking, and relevance between the physical world and the corresponding digital world
resources.
10. Bring Your Own Device to Wear Your Own Device
Over the past few years, Bring Your Own Device caught many IT departments by surprise; it’s now time to get in front
of this predictable hard trend and turn it into an advantage.Wearable technology is going mainstream, with big players
launching smartwatches, smart glasses and more
e-Health to Connected Healthcare
Individual health is encouraged with the development of intelligent systems, apps, gadgets, and mobile systems that
focus on diet, exercise, and information provision. Medication, surgery, and assistive devices rely on intelligent systems
to analyze data and human responses, guiding the implementation and management of therapies and interventions. In
addition to work that focuses on individuals, there is a proliferation in use of intelligent systems for large-scale analysis
of biomedical data, socially relevant data, and metadata, such as the spread of disease or certain health-habits in
populations.
e-Government to Smart Government (Maybe Open Data in Government)
Moving e-Government services through a set of business processes and underlying information technology
capabilities that enable information to flow seamlessly across government agencies and programs to become intuitive
in providing high quality citizen services across all government programs and activity domains
Smart Cities
Cities performance currently depends not only on the city's endowment of hard infrastructure, but also, and
increasingly so, on the availability and quality of knowledge communication and social infrastructure. Smarter cities of
the future will drive sustainable economic growth. Their leaders have the tools to analyze data for better decisions,
anticipate problems to resolve them proactively and coordinate resources to operate effectively. How is the MENA
region reacting to this?
11. Energy Efficiency using ICT
ICT equipment does use a lot of energy. But it can be used to reduce it in other ways as well: Building management
(controlling temperature and automatic window openers and sun screens to control the effect of sunlight and cool
down the building, Solar panels to reduce the amount of electricity from the national grid, Energy monitoring displays
to help staff know what is using up the power), Smart meters (track energy use minute by minute and adjust
equipment utilization of energy).
e-Commerce to M-Commerce, S-Commerce, and F-Commerce
Electronic Commerce might be witnessing the biggest development in the MENA region, with less time to spend
shopping and arising demand, outlets are more and more going online and paying attention to customer experience,
how new technology tools have been pushing this in the Arab World, from e-Commerce to M/S/F-Commerce.
Crowdfunding
Crowdfunding (alternately crowd financing, equity crowdfunding, crowd equity, crowd-sourced fundraising) is the
collective effort of individuals who network and pool their money, usually via the Internet, to support efforts initiated
by other people or organizations. Crowdfunding is used in support of a wide variety of activities, including disaster
relief, citizen journalism, support of artists by fans, political campaigns, startup company funding, motion picture
promotion, free software development, inventions development, scientific research, and civic projects. How does
Crowdfunding fit with the current financial eco-system?
Exporting in the Connected World
Client vendor relationship between ICT companies and clients are going borderless with cloud and mobile
technologies, remote deployment of systems and applications, how the connected world has been affecting companies
ICT implementations?
New Investment Instruments
From seed funding, early stage investment, SMEs financing and investment, to VCs and PE, what are the new investment
tools globally, regionally and locally and how these are serving companies’ needs, are new instruments emerging?
