2. The Price Of The Pants
She had only browsed the store for a couple of minutes when she came across the
perfect skirt. It was a short, cherry red fringed skirt made of the finest Italian
cotton. She disappeared in the fitting room for a couple of minutes to try it on.
Camera flashes light up the hallway as she takes pictures of herself modeling the
skirt from different angles. However, the more she fell in love with the skirt the
more hesitant she became of the pricey $400 pricetag. Unable to justify the price of
the skirt, she walked away empty handed towards a different store. After scanning
multiple isles at Zara, a skirt very similar to the one she tried on earlier appeared
for a fraction of the price. Sure the skirt had some loose threads and the quality of
the cotton was cheaper, but the look was spot on, and was a much better purchase.
Now while most of us would agree that a price reduction on a pricey item this big
might seem like a savvy and economical choice, but these low price tags come with
a much larger expense to others that people are not aware of. These unaccounted
expenses vary from the pollution of water and air, down to the soil where these
factories are built and established. It doesn t stop there either; the fashionindustry is
also responsible for the destruction of land and even the deaths of individuals who
work in the production segments.
The purpose of this paper is to explore how fast fashion affects markets and
environments, while attempting to increase awareness of
3. Essay about Women s Rights in the United States
Even as far back as the United States independence, women did not possess any civil
rights. According to Janda, this view is also known as protectionism, the notion that
women mush be sheltered from life s harsh realities. Protectionism carried on
throughout the general populations view for many decades until the 1920 s when the
women s movement started. Women finally received the right to vote in the
Nineteenth Amendment. The traditional views of protectionism, however, remained
in people s minds until the 1970 s (Janda et al, 2000: 538 539). Around this time,
women started to take on other roles outside the typical traditional role of housewife.

Method and Theory
The method of research used to fully understand a society s views on working
mothers is simply designed. An analysis of the 1990 91 World Values Survey is
possible through the SPSS program. In Citizen Politics, the World Values Surveys
are a series of representative national surveys designed to provide an empirical base
for the study of social and cultural change among the publics of societies throughout
the world (Dalton, 1996: 289). The nations surveyed are the United States, Great
Britain, West Germany, France, and East Germany. In order to examine the dilemma
of these beliefs, specific variables are chosen and run through the program using the
results of the surveys. First, variables referring to women job independence and
women and their children were analyzed across nation to understand what nations
views on women workers. Then a cross tabulation of the variable KID.JOB
(referring to the statement if a preschool child is affected by a working mother)
across nation is analyzed. Then other cross tabulations of KID.JOB to religiosity
(PIOUS) and age (AGE) across nation were run through SPSS to prove that these are
factors in individuals beliefs toward this issue. These variables used together are

Vertical Zonation and the Rocky Shore
According to Yonge (1949), the zoning of both plants and animals within the
narrow vertical limits of a rocky shore is one of the most striking features about
shore life. It is noticeable particularly where sessile organisms (such as barnacles)
occur in abundance on the boundaries of their vertical distribution, as they form a
conspicuous line (Boaden Seed, 1985). The author has also been particularly
impressed by clear zonation patterns of brown algae often to be found on rocky
shores. Precise and universal demarcation of these zones is impossible (Brehaut,
1982), but a comprehension of the vertical zonation of rocky shores is clearly ... Show

At mid shore, for example, exposure is 50 percent of the time to air, and 50 percent
to water. This area forms the eulittoral zone, and a greater number of species are
found here than in the littoral fringe. Communities found in this zone must be
tolerant of short periods of exposure to air between the tides, although they almost
always require regular submersion or at least a thorough wetting (Tait and Dipper,
1998). Species include barnacles, mussels, and other sessile forms such as oysters
(Boaden Seed, 1985). The barnacles commonly belong to such genera as Balanus,
Chthamalus, and Tetraclita. There is a strong tendency (Stephenson Stephenson,
1972) for this zone to be further divided into two or three subzones. In lower
subzones, barnacles may be obliterated or overshadowed by other sedentary forms;
but in the higher eulittoral subzones barnacles are greatest in concentration, and show
dominance. The eulittoral is bounded at the top end by the disappearance of
barnacles in any significant quantity (Stephenson Stephenson, 1972).
The lowest part of the shore is uncovered at extreme low water spring tide, never at
neap tides, and is known as the sublittoral zone. Where wave action is particularly
strong, this zone may not even be uncovered except when the lowest spring tides
coincide with calm weather. As such, this zone is exposed to the air for very short
periods, and for a very small proportion, of time. In many places, it never fully

Introduction
Melanoma is a serious type of skin cancer, causing up to 75% cancer related deaths
and is usually occurs due to exposure to UV rays of the sun. The chances are

pigment cells known as melanocytes, a layer of cells producing melanin which
protects against the damaging rays of the sun. Sometimes, these pigment cells
increase in size and become cancerous melanoma. It didn t show any particular

8. Summary Of Life In Motion By Misty Copeland
Have you ever thought what it would be like to be dancing up on your toes with
the American Ballet theatre (ABT)? That s just what happened, Misty Copeland
currently a principal dancer at ABT had a dream to dance there ever since she
started to dance and she didn t think that she could do it,but with training, hard
work, and passion you can achieve anything. For the month of September I decided
to read Life in Motion written by Misty Copeland. This book was very inspiring in
many ways. I learned so much that I didn t know, not only about Misty Copeland but
also about ballet. I decided to read this book because, Misty Copeland is one of my
idols, she is also a big inspiration and I really wanted to learn more about her.
Overall this book was amazing. I would recommend it to not only ballet dancers
but to also people who love non fiction because it is full of so many details and a
lot of imagery that it makes a person feel like they are in her shoes dancing through
her life. I would recommend this book because many people can relate to Misty
Copeland in many ways, your mind wanders while reading, and because the plot was
very unbelievable and surprising.
Imagine reading a book about your idol and thinking wow I really feel like I am a
part of their life. That s just what happened, while I was reading Life in Motion, I
could actually feel and relate to what was happening to Misty Copeland. I would
recommend this book because many people can relate to her book even

When younger, music was simply something fun that passed time, but as soon as
the song ended and the music stopped, that was is. Music had little significance to
me. As I started to grow older I came to realize the value music has on oneself and
the emotions it can trigger. It can light up a mood, expresses feelings, calm you
down, and most importantly, be nostalgic. Music has the power to bring back
important memories and moments, and often the people you shared them with.
These memories come with a flurry of emotions, almost allowing you to relive
certain times again, even if it is just for a short period of time. Not only to music

Looking back on high school, those are the memories and the bonds created that I
remember and value most. Although my class may not be physically here to laugh,
motivate, or encourage me while I embark on this new journey through college,
when listening to our class song, You ve Got a Friend in Me by Randy Newman, I
am able to remember the good times we shared and the encouragement and support
my class brought me. The time I spent in school and the memories we made together
cannot be replaced and wherever life takes each and every one of us our friendship
will never die. Even when we are miles and miles from our nice warm bed I am able
to have a little part of home with me wherever I go by just the play of a song. Before
falling in love, I had many expectations and ideas of what I thought it would feel
like. I thought true love was comparable the smell right before rain, when
everything feels so delicate. I thought true love was comparable to the feeling I get
when I make a really good save in soccer, letting my instincts take over my body. I
thought true love was comparable to when you step outside after the last day of
school and smell the summer air, letting it soak into your skin like the first time ever.

10. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Stochastic Model
3.1 Deterministic models There are two types of model that we are going to look at,
firstly the deterministic model and then the stochastic model. [23]A deterministic
model is used in a situation where the result can be established straightforwardly from
a series of conditions. It has no stochastic elements and both the input and the outputs
are determined conclusively. On the other hand a stochastic model is one where the
cause and effect relationship is stochastically or randomly determined. Therefore the
system having stochastic element is generally not solved analytically and hence there
are several cases for which it is difficult to build an intuitive perspective. When
simulating a stochastic model a random number is usually generated... Show more

The Use of Form and Rhythm in William Carlos Williams s poem, The Dance
In William Carlos Williams s poem, The Dance , Williams uses the inspiration of a
painting by Peter Breughel to shape his poem. Peter Breughel s painting called The
Kermess depicts a peasant dance of the mid fifteenth century. It shows the form and
rhythm of the dance. Williams also captures the form and the rhythm of this dance in
his poem. In William Carlos Williams poem, The Dance the open form, suggested
images, and rhythm embodies the dance depicted in the painting The Kermess by
Peter Breughel.

Throughout the poem word choice such as kicking , rolling , swinging , and
rollicking (Kennedy 235) and visual referencing keeps the reader bouncing along all
the way to the end of the poem.
In the middle of the poem Williams uses a device called enjambment to create a
pause in the rhythm of the poem. Critics say that Williams is trying to not only
give the feel of the dance but also accurately describe how the dance was
performed. In The Peasant Dance there was a pause, or a stop, in the middle of the
dance. Williams tries to show this part of the dance by using an enjambment to give
the poem a pause just like the dance was actually performed (Viveinne 82). The use
of the enjambment not only gives the poem the physical form of the dance but also
the rhythmical pause mirrors the performance of the dance.
Breughel paints The Kermess with round figures and robust people. Williams
accordingly uses words such as bellies and phrases like those shanks must be sound
to bear up under such rollicking measures (Kennedy 235) to convey these points.
Using such words contribute to the round, open form of his poem. Williams also
states that the peasants are drinking. ..whose wash they impound and in doing so

The Prisoner s Dilemma is an example of game theory; a game of cooperation in
which an individual ends up considering that the best way to maximize their payoff
is through non cooperation. The Prisoner s dilemma is structured in a way that both
parties decide to protect themselves from the players; As a result of following a
purely logical thought process to help oneself, both participants find themselves in a
worse state than if they had cooperated with each other in the decision making
process (Investopedia). Through the process of Prisoner s Dilemma, people can
predict and understand some of the possible actions of both parties in an agreement
as well as the consequences of their possible decisions. One example of Prisoner s

international relation of the Philippine and Hong Kong government.
The Manila Hostage Crisis was a massacre incident that took place on August 23,

Panacetin.
Theory: Panacetin is an analgesic (pain reducing) and antipyretic (fever reducing)
drug that is sold in drug stores. However, there is a suspicion that this bottle may be
counterfeit, not containing the chemicals that it should. Panacetin should be made up
of about 50 percent of the unknown component that we previously separated out of

These were most likely impurities, in which case I added a bit more water than was
necessary. Also, the lab manual says to take two samples of each mixture(unknown;
ВЅ phenacetin; ВЅ acetanilide) for the melting point, but we only conducted one.
There were a few safety concerns in this lab. Both phenacetin and acetanilide are
known to be mild irritants, thus contact with skin and eyes should be avoided or
minimized around the unknown. Another issue to keep in mind is that we will be
moving glass from hot to cold surfaces, which can cause the glass to crack or break.
Extra care should be taken when lowering the temperature of a beaker to avoid this
issue.
Observations/ Results: When boiling the water before placing it in the unknown,
my water never actually came to a boil. It was steaming very heavily and I was
losing a considerable amount of water, especially from my smaller beaker, so I had to
just assume that it was hot enough. This may have affected the amount of material
that I got to dissolve. Either way, the fact that it took 51mL was a good indicator that
my unknown was phenacetin, due to phenacetin having a much lower solubility than
acetanilide. I also noticed that even though I had put in more hot water than
phenacetin should have needed to dissolve (45.9mL), white flakes still remained in
the beaker. I assumed these to be impurities. Observations/

Hayagreeva Rao argues that traditional market forces, like supply and demand, are
not the only factors that determine the success of an innovation. Rao illustrates this
with the example of market rebels who he defines as activists who challenge the
existing status quo. Rao contends that ultimately, market rebels determine whether or
not a new idea or product is welcomed or shot down by consumers. In other words,
the joined hands of activists and their supporters can undermine the forces of the
invisible hand. According to Rao, market rebels rally support by articulating a hot
cause and strategizing a cool mobilization. The hot cause is statement of belief for or
against the innovation that draws on emotions and inspires action. The cool

Mark Granovetter stresses the importance of examining how political, cultural, and
social environments shape markets, especially given the fact that economists often
tend to ignore these social factors in their analysis of the economy. Embeddedness
relates to innovation and entrepreneurship in that an entrepreneur s success in a
certain market depends largely on how embedded he or she is in the social relations
of the community they are doing business with. The case of Freddy, the Strawberry
Man, illustrates how entrepreneurs draw on culture to find and capitalize on
opportunities in the marketplace. For example, Freddy was in tune to the fact that
his suppliers and customers relied heavily on credit as a means of payment. He
noticed that his competitor s producers were not getting paid in a timely fashion,
and therefore, were willing to sell their product to Freddy instead since he offered
prompt payments. Freddy also gained a solid customer base by selling his berries
on credit and offering a generous payment window. By understanding the needs of
both his suppliers and customers, Freddy was able to break into the strawberry
business and became a largely successful entrepreneur. The main takeaway from
Freddy s story is that being a successful entrepreneur requires more than just having
adequate knowledge of business practices and the market activity; one must also be

Most people would consider a novel written to be both, objective and sympathetic,
nearly impossible. However, Capote could prove them wrong. He wrote In Cold
Blood using a tone that successfully portrays both of these attitudes. He writes in an
objective way that is more explanatory rather than judgmental, therefore unbiased.
But he also looks deeper into the lives of the characters and their family histories,
making the reader feel sympathy for them throughout the story.
Capote is able to show a more sympathetic side by looking into the lives of the
Clutter family, giving background knowledge to the reader. Sympathy is felt when
you realize that they were killed for an unjustifiable reason and obviously did not
deserve to die. Technically,

Symbolism is a literary device and a form of indirect expression. It enables the
author to demonstrate reality, while giving the reader the opportunity to conclude

Snowball resembles Trotsky, who took control of the military, and was successful in
creating a victory against Krensky in November. Trotsky also set the Red army that
succeeded in ending civil war in Russia in 1920. Trotsky created an economic plan
that evolved trade with other nations. Considered as an internationalist, he was
exiled in 1928 by Stalin: the last major character in the story, who is Napoleon.
Napoleon used studded dogs with collars to spread fear among animals and exile
Snowball. A similar power was used by Stalin, in which he used the secret police.
Napoleon also followed snowball s schemes, but he put animals under harsh working
conditions. Such conditions were common among the Soviet Union, where ten
million workers died, due to starvation. Even though, growth was apparent in both
the Soviet Union and Animal Farm, workers conditions didn t improve. Soviet
economy posted an estimated average annual growth rate in gross national product

1970 (Investopedia). Only the Bolshevik party or pigs took advantage of the growth
and used propaganda to show otherwise.
Conclusion
George Orwell showed dexterity in creating obvious resemblance between both the
story characters and the Soviet leaders. Therefore, Animal Farm could be considered

The baked goods industry in the United States is one that is highly competitive;
especially once big stores such as Wal Mart and entered. It is however important to
note that artisanal baked goods hold 49% market share1. The market for bread was
highly competitive with a number of barriers which stirred competitors away from
traditional bread offering and explore the opportunities in niches such as gourmet and
specialty breads. A variety of bakery products of Hispanic origin were also available
in the United States. This meant that numerous bakeries had surfaced.
When it comes to pan sobao however, Pan Boricua faced only one rival, Mi Pan
Asociados. The rival had set up a system of mini bakeries that allowed
supermarkets, gas stations and other retail establishments to sell fresh bread. In the
United States, they also faced other competitors, such as the majority of U.S.
retailers who had aisles dedicated to ethnic foods in their stores. In fact, some such
as Wal Mart and Kroger have also incorporated bakeries within the stores.

Teacher Jodi Schutzenhofer was one of those teachers that found it difficult to try
and find an equal balance and understanding of how students within the school
were dealing with the grand jury decision. I did not really have any types of group

and why did they have to burn down the city? for which there is really no good

Frederick Douglass Slavery is a huge topic that consists of many inspirational
stories about former slaves. The story of Frederick Douglass was one of them.
Frederick Douglass was born in the year of 1818. He was a great civil rights activist
that had a big impact on African American History. Douglass was born into slavery
on a Maryland Eastern Shore Plantation. Unlike other slaves, Douglass was an
individual who made great effort to obtain freedom and equality. Although Frederick
Douglass was a slave, it did not stop him from getting his education, becoming a
freeman, and becoming one of the most influential leaders in African American

What enlightens me about Douglass was his drive for education. He taught me
while reading this Primary Source that despite what kind of obstacle that may try
to come up against your success, if you believe in what you are fighting for, there
is nothing that can stand in your way of accomplishing your goals. Over time I
have often struggled with understanding college math. So many times I have
wanted to give up but despite this feeling of agony, I chose to keep pushing myself
to stay in the class because I am inspired by the life of Frederick Douglass that my
goals will soon come to pass. In conclusion, Frederick Douglass was an African
American slave that fought to be free. His vision of being a freeman was inspired by
his desire for education and his relationship with God that taught him that God would
help those that help themselves. He was one of the greatest leaders of the abolitionist
movement, which help fought to end slavery in the United States. Fredrick Douglass I
really respect Douglass by stepping out on faith to help the Africans Americans to
have freedom as of today. He was a firm believer that trusted God 100
23. How Does Chaucer s Use Of Characterization In
Canterbury...
Characterization has been the cornerstone of literature for centuries. Character
presentation can attain any work fame or shame. Geoffrey Chaucer, a pioneer of
English Literature s works carried mass appeal. His best known works appealed to
those of all walks of life. Chaucer s work resulted in mass appeal because it used
many forms of characterization to present the characters to the reader. In Geoffrey
Chaucers Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer uses thoughts and actions, his
word, and satire to characterize The Squire and The Wife of Bath.

The Squire is also the Knight s apprentice. The Squire shows a great passion towards
battle as he learns how to be a knight. As he gives battle his all he also displays
courtly love. Squire s other passion is his love life. He views his ultimate victory as
winning over his dream lady. Squire rarely sleeps due to his great passion for battle
and his everlasting lust for love.
The Wife of Bath is a career seamstress even though she appears to make a living as
a wife. She has a professional knowledge of love through her five marriages and is
well known for the love advice she gives to others. Aside from her passion for
marriage, she shows great interest in appearing wealthy. This wealth is displayed
by her wearing the finest clothing as well as typically being the first to contribute

very well traveled woman. The career wife and seamstress made three pilgrimages to
Jerusalem as well as partaking in many other voyages within Europe.
Chaucer uses character s thoughts and actions to develop characters in his stories.
Examples of this method being used can be found in Chaucer s characterization of
the Squire as well as the Wife of Bath in Prologue to the Canterbury Tales.
The Squire is characterized by his own thoughts and actions. One specific example of
this is when he displays his passion for love as he works with his fellow fierce

In chemistry, one often uses the term catalyzed reaction to demonstrate the process
initiated by a starting function. The book begins by describing Wally Rippel,
CalTech student in the 1960 s who became disheartened with the blanket of smog
over Los Angeles. Wally Rippel is the first catalyst of the electric vehicle
movement, the source of persistence and passion that disrupted society and excited
the idea of the electric vehicle in the minds of the public. He set out to transform
his own VW Bus into an electrified one, but talk of batteries on CalTech Campus
as rare as what Rippel called a topic like sex used to be during the Victorian age (4).
Rippel began to doubt his project, conducting often frustrating, failed experiments
that no one else had researched before, but his unwavering passion allowed him to
persist through. He then dialed up MIT, CalTech s rival, to challenge them in the
first documented electric race across the country, which they accepted after initial
rejection of the idea. After nine days of creeping across the United States in their

27. Emotional Trauma In Catcher In The Rye
In Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye, Holden s fantasy of being the catcher in the rye
is a direct reflection of his unstable emotional state: he wants to shield other children
from the horrors adulthood, subconsciously because he feels vulnerable and alone in
the world, and does not want others to experience that type of pain, as evidenced
through Holden s thoughts during different periods of time in the novel. Severe
emotional trauma typically results in repercussion such as grief and psychological
instability; which, especially inflicted upon a child, can have drastic effects on their
mental and emotional growth. The root of Holden s emotional immaturity is the
experience of a very adult type of pain: grief. Allie s death was a major traumatic
experience which proved to be too much for Holden to comprehend emotionally
without therapy, causing him to have trouble connecting with people and gaining
emotional experience. Therefore, he has stayed frozen in a constant emotional state,
and even though he is physically maturing, his emotional growth is hindered. After
encountering Sunny, another person who had lost their innocence at a young age,
Holden becomes depressed and started talking, sort of out loud, to Allie (Salinger,

more legal and material rights through the women s movement. Wolf states, Many

The focus of my paper is to explore what kind of services and programs, are offered
to victims of sexual assault. The research question that will be focused throughout
this paper is: In what ways do Universities and Colleges assist victims of Sexual
Assault? According to the United States Department of Justice (2017), sexual assault
is defined as any type of sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the explicit
consent of the recipient. Falling under the definition of sexual assault are sexual
activities as forced sexual intercourse, forcible sodomy, child molestation, incest,
fondling, and attempted rape(DOJ 2017). As you can see sexual assault has various
situations that could cause some situations to be sexual assault. Statistics show how
95% of campus sexual assault is unreported, 90% of women know who sexually
assaulted them, 50% of sexual assaults on campus are alcohol related, 80% of rape
victims suffer chronic physical and psychological problems over time (PACT5:2017).

32. Southern Gothic Literature In William Faulkner s A Rose...

7th grade Language Arts (18 week)

Sad Southern Literature
Southern Gothic Literature is exactly what it implies, works written in the south that
are depressing, they are of isolation, violence, decline, bias, and brutality. These
works use mental images and show a large amount of symbolism. This classification
immediately gives any avid reader a mental author list. If naming an author were a
quick answer game show quiz, William Faulkner would gain the number one
position. Flannery O Connor, for myself, is not a name that comes to mind quickly
but would have caused a gasp when named. Knowing a little more about a few of
the writers helps create the list, for example, Rowan Oak sits hidden behind trees
and is approached by a parallel line of trees staying in the darkness of shade with
the servants quarters close behind. Faulkner s A Rose for Emily could have taken
place in any small Delta town and any time, even today.
A Rose for Emily is the sad tale of a typical southern woman who did not take the
typical southern woman path. With the death of her father she did not follow the
path of planning a funeral or telling family. The town was at a loss to find a way to
handle this death. Just as they were about to resort to law and force, she broke
down, and they buried her father quickly. This event alone characterizes the story
with the isolation, the grotesque, and decay of her morals. Faulkner is just getting
started with Emily but has given us the symbolism with society looking in on the
aging home, unpaid taxes, and death. Next, we have the addition of Homer Barron,
who has come to town temporarily for work. She is smiting for this tall dark
handsome northerner. Faulkner himself does not hide another small hint about
Homer not liking women. But things appear to be as though marriage is a possibility
between the two and then that appears to be another blow that further isolates Emily.
Eccentric Emily then ages with her black hair growing grayer and community
curiosity growing over the decay foul smelling home. Days after her passing when
members of the community enter the home we discover that Emily may have in fact
been more southern lady saving

An integral component of the society is an individual. The power of society shapes
every individual to be an inter connected component to the societal function. The
structure of society would distort if these individuals were to work against society.
Hence, our society translates into a Shared knowledge . This is the process by which
many individuals come together to shape Shared Knowledge. However, one must
study the relationship that builds the connection between of shared and personal
knowledge. Thus, I believe that personal knowledge is a manifestation of shared
knowledge which may conform or reject this shared body of knowledge. It follows a
recurring and circular form of advancement which results in the progression of
knowledge in this shared knowledge system.
Knowledge is defined as the particular data or skillset that an individual or a society

Bentham s principle lacks stability because it disregards the individual rights of

because it considers individual rights, and understands the value they hold to

Muslim women from living their life to full capacity. Mill and Locke would both
argue that the government has no place enforcing laws on private matters including

personal choice of religious belief or practice. Both would agree that an individual
has the right to do as they please and should not be forced to conform. The overall
formation of Bill 94 is based upon unproven assumptions. Human rights activists

The event I went to go see was a Guest Master Class instructed by Barthold Kujiken.
This event was held on Sunday afternoon in Ferguson Hall at the University of
Minnesota. It was held in a small auditorium similar to a class setting. Barthold was
accompanied by a student flutist and pianist. A lot of time was spent with the flutist
and pianist playing a part of a piece, and him teaching and demonstrating on how to
improve a piece and explaining the fundamentals of the music. It was a very
informative event/class.
Barthold Kujiken was born March 8, 1949. He s a Belgian flutist and recorder
player. He attended Bruges Conservatory and the Royal Conservatories of Brussels
and The Hague, where he studied the modern flute. He is best known for playing
baroque music on authentic instruments such as the flute. He played in baroque
orchestras for many years, and then went off to playing chamber music concerts all
over the world, where he extended to playing 19th century music. The majority of
the event he talked about Sonata s. As we discussed in class, a sonata is a solo
instrument accompanied by a keyboard. In this case the solo instrument was the
flute and it was accompanied by a piano. The flutist played a major sonata. As she
played apiece he would stop her and tell her a few things to change to improve the
piece, and she would play that piece once again with the revisions. One of the other
things he told her was to play the sonata without any ornaments just the skeleton.
37. Richard Hare s Moral Judgement
Richard Hare is one of most foremost contemporary defenders of utilitarianism
today. He is committed to the principle of utility to the act which does more good,
gives greater benefit, or which satisfies more preferences, or the stronger of two or
more preferences. (Hare, 1981). This essay will discuss how the Philosopher, Richard
Hare, derives preference utilitarianism from moral judgement aspects such as
prescriptivity and universalizability using various different example(s) to explain and
create understanding, and finally the essay will be concluded as to how Richard Hare
derived preference utilitarianism. Richard Hare somewhat supported emotivism
meaning one s moral actions is prompted by attitudes. (Satris, 1982). According to
Ayer s theory of emotivism, the meaning of moral statements is not important, but
rather what moral language actually does. Moral language focuses on two different
forms of questions, namely: Formal questions and Substantive questions; Formal
questions appeal to form and values and make use of the word ought , whereas
Substantive questions are statements of factual content. Hume extends on this by
suggesting that opposing parties can argue about factual content, but not necessarily
one s values. Therefore Hare places emphasis on and focuses primarily on the form
of moral language, in other words, formal language and questions. According to Hare
(1952), moral language has rules, and if there is an understanding of those rules the

Validity for using the Absorption or Variable Costing Method In the case, it is more
advantageous to use absorption costing than the variable costing because it is a
simpler method of providing accurate record for the external reporting for a highly
unstable manufacturing volume in the manufacturing company. More importantly,
the absorption costing provides more accurate picture of cash flow of an organization
since the organization will add unsold product to the sale mount of the next fiscal
year. (Walther, 2013).With the absorption costing, the organization will be able to
transfer the cost of inventory to the costs of goods sold making the organization to
reduce the gross profit. The rational behind using the absorption costing is that firms
will be able to measure the products as complete costs. (Noreen, E.W. Brewer, P.C.
Garrison, R.H. (2013).
The shortcoming of absorption costing is that it does not always provide the best
signal on the strategy to price a product. Moreover, absorption costing assigns both
fixed and variable manufacturing costs to products and mix them that makes
management to face challenges to distinguish between the two costs.
The report provides the benefits of the absorption and variable costing to reveal how
the two costing methods enhance managerial decision.

39. The Endocrinology Of Male And Female Reproduction
Reproductive physiology is comprised of many tightly coordinated functions of the
endocrine system including the hypothalamus, pituitary and reproductive organs
whose dynamic function plays several critical roles in growth and development as
well was reproduction. The hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis plays a critical role in
the development and regulation of the reproductive system. These tightly regulated
functions within the pituitary must respond to continuously changing signals from
the central nervous system gonads and provide the quick responses. The
hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis is comprised of major hormones, including
gonadotropin releasing hormone(GnRH), luteinizing hormone(LH) and follicular
stimulating hormone (FSH) and operate through both positive and negative feedback
loops in mammals.1 When toxicants affect any part of this axis s function, either by
altering cellular activity or the signals themselves, the physiology can impacted by
immediate and downstream effects. An understanding of the endocrinology of male
and female reproduction, is required to understand how toxicological effects can have
severe consequences on reproductive physiology.
GnRH is a prominent reproductive hormone that is produced in neural cells in the
hypothalamus. GnRH is secreted into the bloodstream where it is carried downstream
to the pituitary gland and activates the Gonadotropin Releasing hormone receptor. 2
Once these cells are activated, signal transduction
40. High Costs Related to Drug Use Essay
DRUG USE RELATED COSTS Background of the problem It is known that the
major economic costs from drugs use are due to incarcerations and crime rather
than to drug use itself (Keefer, Loayza, Soares, 2010). In Colombia, it is estimated
that 20% of the cocaine and 70% of the marijuana produced is consumed
domestically (Cawley, 2013), most of it in underground spots called ollas. The
gathering of drug traffickers, addicts, and criminals in these places has spawned
crime and insecurity in all cities. The Colombian government has tried some
measures to reduce these externalities of drug use, but they have not been enough nor
adequate. In 2012, possession and consumption of minimal doses of marijuana and
cocaine were decriminalized1. This was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Policy options to reduce drug use related crime There are three main policies that
could be considered in order to tackle ollas and the crime related costs they
generate. 1. Continue intervening ollas The government could foster the Operation
Green Heart to intervene ollas, just as the President announced it would do
(Cawley, 2013). But this strategy would be ineffective and may even cause larger
harms. Until now the strategy has not shown real long term remarkable results in
reducing crime and consumption. At most, it has only created a balloon effect
displacing ollas a few blocks temporarily; time after the intervention, when police
and public employees are gone, dealers and consumers come back. Furthermore,
intervening big ollas could have split some of them geographically into smaller
ones, making the situation even worse (FIP, 2013). The operation captured 1.843
people participating in drug trafficking, including 42 important drug lords. Despite
these captures, distribution networks remain intact because gangs have found

41. Multiprotocol Label Switching Essay
This paper will discuss one of the most popular and successful networking
technologies in recent memory. This technology is known as Multiprotocol Label
Switching, or MPLS. Inspired by Ipsilon Networks, developed by Cisco, and
standardized by the IETF, this service has become a dominant competitor.
Independent think tank, Nemertes Research has estimated that nearly eighty five
percent of companies are already using MPLS today. Multiprotocol Label switching
works at layer 2 and is a new, alternative WAN service. Although it significantly
differs from more traditional WAN implementations, the creators were considerate of
interoperability. Thus, MPLS is compatible with other popular methods. Not only is
it compatible, but it s also a means of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
MPLS encapsulated PDUs move through a WAN via Label Switched Paths (LSPs),
which are similar to Frame Relay s virtual circuits. PDUs with closely related paths
are grouped into Forwarding Equivalence classes (FECs). FECs are not
synonymous with LSPs, as multiple FECs often traverse the same LSP. Regular
interior routing protocols are present on the WAN, but only to spread topology data
so that LSPs can be created. They are not involved in individual forwarding
decisions. Traffic engineering extensions can even be added to create backup LSPs
and provide QoS.
MPLS has many advantages over competitive services. It was originally developed
as a faster technique for moving data between LANs. Since only a single router has
to fully inspect incoming traffic, and all others are merely reacting to the
conclusions of this original inspection, speed is improved from the paradigm.
However many advancements in hardware have somewhat closed the gap on this
difference. Nonetheless, MPLS remains a fair choice for those who wish to
optimize the speed of their network, and it has many things to offer beyond that
original intent. The Multiprotocol part of it s name is important in explaining many
of these perks. What is meant by multiprotocol is that it s compatible with any
network layer protocol. And not only that, it s also friendly with other WAN
services such as Frame Relay and ATM. This means that any existing legacy
networks or variant adjacent WANs will play well
42. Ophelia As A Feminist Role In Hamlet
William Shakespeare s Hamlet can be read as a feminist play given Ophelia s
experiences within the Danish society. Through Ophelia s interactions with the men
of the play, the audience can see that the male dominated society brings inequality,
distrust, and destruction. As Ophelia interacts with her brother, her father, and Hamlet
, she is completely unable to assert her own independence, and her lack of personal
autonomy eventually drives her to madness. These three men all deny Ophelia s
individuality and desire for self control because they are accustomed to their male
dominated world. However, once Ophelia is driven to madness, she is regarded as
an individual and finally has political and social power. Shakespeare s Hamlet is a
feminist play located within a misogynistic culture that Ophelia struggles to escape.
Ophelia s interactions with the male characters of the play reveal her limited agency.
As Ophelia tells her brother about her relationship with Hamlet, Laertes responds,
For Hamlet, and the trifling of his favor, hold it a fashion and a toy in blood, a violet
in the youth of primy nature, forward, not permanent, sweet, not lasting, the perfume
and suppliance of a minute, no more (1.3.5 10). By instructing Ophelia on how to
behave in her relationship with Hamlet, Laertes implies that he does not trust Ophelia
s judgement and she needs guidance with her personal affairs.
Furthermore, Laertes continues to micromanage Ophelia and Hamlet s
relationship as he warns her to fear Hamlet s actions. Laertes tells Ophelia, Be
wary then; best safety lies in fear (1.3.42). Laertes s repeated attempts to assert his
control over his sister exposes his belief that Ophelia cannot and should not be
trusted with complete power over her life. Although it can be assumed that
Ophelia does not appreciate this lack of control, societal expectations have been
inculcated into her everyday actions, and she is deeply aware of her social roles.
As a result of this awareness, she promises Laertes that she will follow his advice: I
shall the effect of this good lesson keep as watchman to my heart (1.3.44 45). In
order to maintain peace within her society, Ophelia is forced to conform to societal
expectations. However, as

distribute incoming traffic among servers. So if any failure happens to one server
it can load from another server. Thus we get maximum availability. Increase in new
servers according to demand will make sure accessibility and responsiveness, and
load balancer share in formations with new servers. It shares all the data with two

44. Difference Between Administrative And Administrative Law
Constitutional and administrative law both govern the affairs of the state.
Administrative law, an area of law that gained early sophistication in France, was until
well into this century largely unrecognized in the United Kingdom as well as the
United States. To the early English writers on administrative law, there was virtually
no difference between administrative law and constitutional law. This is evident from
the words of Keith: It is logically impossible to distinguish administrative from
constitutional law and all attempts to do so are artificial. Some jurists like Felix
Frankfurter even went as far as to call it illegitimate and exotic . Due to this lack of
clarity, it will be vital to observe the views of jurists and scholars on the difference
between administrative law and constitutional law. According to Holland,
constitutional law describes the various organs of the government at rest, while
administrative law describes them in motion. Holland contends that the structure of
the executive and the legislature comes within the purview of constitutional law
whereas their functioning is governed by administrative law. Jennings puts forward
another view, which says that administrative law deals with the organization,
functions, powers and duties of administrative authorities while constitutional law
deals with the general principles relating to the organization and powers of the
various organs of the State and their mutual relationships and relationship of these

Short bowel syndrome (SBS) is a heterogeneous, malabsorptive disorder that occurs
after an extensive small bowel resection surgery (2). Conditions of the small bowel
which may warrant this type of surgery include Crohn s disease, post radiation
enteritis, ischemia/other vascular issues of the bowel, malignancy, trauma, tumors,
and complications from previous abdominal or gastric bypass surgery (1, 2). Once
the bowel has been resected, the normal processes involved in absorption of nutrients,
electrolytes, and fluids are altered (1). A variety of long term complications related to
SBS exists and is dependent upon which sections of the bowel remain, the amount of
remaining bowel, and the functional and structural adaptations that occur post surgery

has the ability to adapt functionally and structurally (3). Therefore, the more ileum
remaining after a resection, the better the outcome. The severity of SBS symptoms
is largely based on the type of small bowel resection surgery that has been
performed. Three distinct bowel resections are known to result in SBS: jejuno ileal
anastomosis, jejuno colic anastomosis, and end jejunostomy (3). The adverse
symptoms created by SBS vary based on the type of resection that has occurred, the
phase of post resection in which the patient is, and the extent of adaptation of the

best to explain to investors why it had taken such an unusual step.

After analysing industry and future prospects Broadhead concluded that FPL would
need to have a commitment to quality and customer service, increase its focus on the
utilities industry, expand capacity, and improve its cost position in order to match
with the competitive environment. Moreover, FPL needed to renew focus on its
core business. It planed to sell several of the non utility businesses. Furthermore,
Broadhead commenced an aggressive capital expenditure program designed to meet
projected demand into the next decade. FPL budgeted $6.6 billion, spread over five
years, for the expansion.
The company also felt that it would be prudent to reduce debt, and that part of the
cash savings from the dividend cut would be used for this purpose. At the same time,
the company announced plans to return part of the cash saved by the dividend cut by
repurchasing up to 10 million shares of stock over the next three years. FPL
explained that this would reduce shareholders taxes.
We can say that the dividend changes have been so much less volatile than earnings
changes because: 1) management believed that shareholders prefer a steady
progression in dividends 2) managers are reluctant to make dividend changes that
might have to be reversed. They are particularly worried about a dividend increase,
which would affect the stock price. Broadhead needed money to invest in FPL;
therefore, he needed to make the stock price increase in order to
47. The Pros And Cons Of Social Movement
The discontentment of people against certain policies of government no doubt may
lead to all forms of grievances, which may be expressed or unexpressed. Where it is
expressed, it takes the forms of protest such as strikes and demonstrations; which are
either organized or unorganized. Unorganized behaviors are mostly spontaneous
which usually end without any structure that could ensure an enduring relationship.
Social movementon the other hand refers to an organized group of people with the
major goal of bringing about a purposive change in the society. The major targets are
the societal and/ or governmental policies, which are considered repugnant and
detrimental to the generality of the people or a cross section of the society.

They also seek changes in a particular area that is of interest to them. The reformative
social movements are out to advocate for reforms that would benefit the whole
society. At times they could also seek the maintenance of the existing pattern where is
it envisaged that a change maybe inimical to their growth and development. They are
therefore seen as progressive as they do not seek a total disruption of the system but
operate within the existing system.
The alternative social movement identified by Aberle (1966:42) poses no serious
threat as it only narrow itself to a small part of the population. The changes they
social seek are very limited. This social movement concerns itself primarily with
specific individuals such as those within sexually active population age bracket. For
example, they seek a change in their sexual behavior especially as it relates to birth

In the late 1920s, the Committee on Uniform Crime Records was established by the
International Association of the Chiefs of Police (IACP). The goal of the Committee
was to develop a systematic way to measure crime in the United States. The
Committee collaborated and decided to focus on seven (7) specific crimeareas which
they felt were the most known crimes and the most likely to be reported. These
crimes were: burglary, robbery, larceny theft, rape, auto theft, murder and aggravated
assault (James Rishard, 2008).
The IACP developed their own definitions of these crimes to ensure uniformity of
reporting the data collected. This information and definitions were published in
1929 in the Uniform Crime Reporting Manual. The first report of data collected
was published later that same year and was amassed from 400 cities across the 48
contiguous United States, as well as the territories of Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto
Rico. This report became known as the Uniform Crime Report (UCR). The
following year, in 1930, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) was tapped to
control the crime data collected for the UCR (James Rishard, 2008).
Since 1930, there have been a few modifications made to the UCR. The FBI began
recording the age, sex and race of those arrested as well as increasing the known
crimes reported to law enforcement from seven (7) categories to eight (8) categories
by adding the category of arson (James Rishard, 2008).

Diabetes is a chronic condition involving glucose in the blood. It is caused by a
problem in the way the body makes or uses insulin. Insulin, a hormone that is
necessary for glucose to move from the blood to the inside of the cells. The body
cannot use the insulin for energy if it cannot get into the cells. Diabetes occurs when
the body has too much blood glucose due to either the pancreas does not produce
enough insulin or the body cannot effectively use the insulin produced.
In type 2 diabetes (formerly called non insulin dependent diabetes or adult onset
diabetes), the pancreas continues to produce insulin, sometimes even at higher than
normal levels. However, the body develops resistance to the effects of insulin, so ...

Undoing Stereotypes in the Movie, Dances With Wolves
Hollywood has helped create and perpetuate many different stereotypical images of
the different races in the world. Those stereotypes still continue to affect the way we
think about each other today and many of those stereotypes have been proven to be
historically inaccurate. The movie Dances With Wolves, directed by actor Kevin
Costner, does an excellent job in attempting to promote a greater acceptance,
understanding, and sympathy towards Native American culture, instead of supporting
the typical stereotype of Native Americans being nothing but brutal, blood thirsty
savages.

camera first introduced the Indians into the movie by focusing in on a human
skeleton that had an arrow stuck in the abdomen. Through scenes such as these, we
are given an impression that the stereotypes about Indians being savages were
indeed true. These ideas are changed as the movie begins to take a 180 degree turn
and begins to focus on helping the viewer understand what the Indians were really all

The Lakota tribe was very humane and had fairly strong familial bonds. It wasn t
easy to be accepted by their tribe at first but once you were accepted then you were
considered to be one of the family. In the film, Jon Dunbar tries to make friends

kind hearted man he slowly gains the acceptance of the tribe. The first witness of
this is when some tribesmen pay a visit to Jon Dunbar s soldier s fort. To welcome

it may be graphic for a front page headline, it is necessary. There are much more
disturbing photos that exist of Williams actually assaulting his victims, but those

necessary to be released because it showed the public of how alarming the case
actually is without crossing the line of being morbid. The Toronto Star received a lot
of backlash from the photo released however people need to remember that
Williams is a murderer and not to just focus on him being a fetishist (McGrath

addressed, the results from the study, and the implications of the study. The methods
for gathering data are also included in the abstract. The abstract may benefit from
including the limitations of this research study, specifically that this study focused on
one hospital; therefore, the results may not be able to be generalized to other
populations. Overall, the abstract is written well.

purpose of this study was to better understand the frequency and type of alterations in

of the introduction is the fact that it is too wordy and difficult to follow. The
