How does our media Product
represent a particular social group
• The main character in our film is Alex Smith, a 17 year
old girl. The social group we are mainly representing is
teenagers from the age of 15 -21 . We have tried to
make Alex as much like an average teenage girl as
possible so the audience can relate to her. This includes
dressing her in modern clothing and giving her
problems that normal teenagers often have. This
includes being bullied and having low self confidence
and low self esteem. Drug taking may also be
something that people around the age range of 15 – 21
may be interested in. Many people of this age have or
know someone who have experimented with drugs.
We believe that the film displays a negative image of
drugs and therefore will put them off
• We have decided to dress the character of
Alex in clothing that most girls around her age
would dress in. The clothing that Alex wears is
similar to items sold in popular high-street
stores such as:
• We believe that Alex’s costume helps to add to
the realism of our film. Particularly as some of
our audience may own similar or the same items
of clothing. This would make the character seem
very real. As her Costume is quite dull and does
not stand out very much. This shows her desire to
fit in and not to stand out from the crowed. This
is how many people of her age feel and therefore
they may dress the same. Dark colours are also
associated with death. Which is a main theme
within our film.
•

This clothing is
similar to what our
character costume is.
As is shown they are
all black and dull
colours. We have also
chosen to use these
colours as they are
associated with death
and could be
foreshadowing the
impending death of
our character at the
end of the film. They
are all also items of
clothing that are
audience will have
worn or at least seen
people wearing
• Another example of how our character of Alex
can represent teenagers. Is through her
dangerous and reckless behaviour. This is seen
through her drug taking. Alex is not sure what
the drug she is taking is or how it will effect
her. She just takes them in hope of feeling
better. Though as is scene in the film it has
some very negative effects. This is something
that a typical teenage would do. Particularly
as acting recklessly is a popular teenage
stereotype.
