AudienceThe target audience for ‘Skins’ is young college students aged between 16 – 20 and it appeals to both a male and female audience. I came to this conclusion because of the characters, the location and the issues. The programme is set in Bristol and the usual locations are college, parties and their own houses.
The CharactersThe main characters are the same age as the target audience therefore the audience can put themselves into the characters shoes and they may share the same issues/ problems as the characters so they can relate to them.
Social IssuesAlcoholDrugsThere is a lot of alcohol consumption throughout each episode. When they go out to parties they usual consume alcohol and drugs so that they enjoy themselves at the party. This relates well to the target audience as the age group goes out to parties and drink. Example – next slide
GenresExamples on next slidesHumourDramaHumour is used through the characters, they are all different characters and some are humorous. E.g. ‘Pandora’ is weird, which makes the other characters and audience laugh. She also does not have many friends. It is a typical young adult drama that relates to teen problems. E.g. Drugs.
NarrativeEach episode is about a different character and their issues/problems. We see the story through their point of view and it tells us more each week about the character. This helps the target audience relate to them.
