Media workloads in the cloud face challenges of exploding data volumes, distributed locations, and unique workflows. A hybrid cloud can deliver four key benefits: 1) leverage existing investments; 2) avoid the public internet; 3) acquire computing elasticity; and 4) run a single technical environment. Software-defined networking can optimize individual customer networks, make networks application-aware, correctly marry storage and compute, and offer networking as a service.

Azure was announced in October 2008 and released on 1 February 2010 as Windows Azure, before being renamed to Microsoft Azure on 25 March 2014. Along with Amazon Web Services Azure is considered a leader in the IAAS field.
Microsoft Azure is an open and flexible cloud platform that enables you to quickly build, deploy, and manage applications across a global network of Microsoft-managed datacenters. You can build applications using any language, tool, or framework. And you can integrate your public cloud applications with your existing IT environment.
This definition tells us that Microsoft Azure is a cloud platform, which means you can use it for running your business applications, services, and workloads in the cloud. But it also includes some key words that tell us even more:

Technologent helped by designing a secondary DR site and developing the necessary documentation and processes. This included inventorying the company's IT assets, architecting the DR infrastructure, identifying critical applications, writing runbooks outlining failover procedures, and conducting tests of the DR plan. Technologent also trained the company's staff to enable them to independently execute and maintain the DR program. The end result was a comprehensive DR solution that assured business continuity in the event of a disaster.

How to Increase Performance of Your Hadoop Cluster
Three identical Apache Hadoop clusters were provisioned on Joyent infrastructure using different operating systems: SmartOS, Ubuntu, and KVM virtual machines. Monitoring showed the Ubuntu and KVM clusters spent more time in the OS kernel during I/O operations compared to the SmartOS cluster. The SmartOS cluster was able to utilize CPU resources more efficiently and scale to more mappers and reducers. Basic cluster configuration and tuning the number of map and reduce tasks are important to optimize Hadoop performance.

CAL provides a generalized interface that abstracts away differences between cloud providers and allows applications to be deployed across multiple cloud platforms. It aims to address issues like vendor lock-in and allow easier migration of applications between clouds. A prototype was demonstrated using CAL to deploy a bioinformatics workflow as a service across OpenStack clouds.CloudLightning - Multiclouds: Challenges and Current Solutions
In this presentation, Prof Dana Petcu (Institute e-Austria Timisoara, West University of Timisoara) discusses the concepts, challenges and requirements relating to multicloud architectures.
Prof Petcu also addresses differences between existing approaches in dealing with multiple clouds and the requirements for a support platform for a multicloud infrastructure.
The presentation includes a case study – the MODAClouds Project – that aims to support system developers and operators in exploiting multiple Clouds for the same system in addition to systems migration (full or partial) between clouds as needed.
Finally, Prof Petcu addresses the lessons learned from MODAClouds and similar EU projects and their application to the CloudLightning Project (@_cloudlightning).
This presentation was given at the National Conference on Cloud Computing in Dublin City University on 14th April 2015.

Who uses multi cloud today ? Everybody. Docker AND VMs, scaling internally AND bursting to Amazon, storing on a public cloud except for data legally required to stay within the country: different solutions for different needs, but more often than not used at the same time. Alas, this leads to a "noodle plate" architecture where a lot of "technical glue" with the various, incompatible clouds creeps in and makes it impossible to evolve.
To solve this problem, the OCCIware project builds on the Open Cloud Computing (OCCI) standard's unified, uniform architectural approach and provides a platform to manage all layers and domains of the Cloud (XaaS), with two main components: the OCCIware Studio Factory and Runtime. The talk includes a demonstration of the Docker connector and of how to use the OCCIware Cloud Designer to configure a real life, SmartCity-themed Cloud application (a Java API server on top of a MongoDB cluster)'s business, platform and infrastructure layers seamlessly on both VirtualBox and OW2's OpenStack infrastructure.

It’s no secret that Linux has a loyal fan-base across the development community and industries such as government, engineering, and oil & gas. But, when it comes to VDI, the operating system often gets the short end of the stick.
How can you lower IT costs when applications run on a Linux operating system? How can you handle a mixture of Windows and Linux in a hosted environment? And, how do you ensure a seamless end-user experience, while maximizing resource usage and minimizing downtime?
The truth is, Linux VDI doesn’t have to be hard. You can create a virtual Linux environment that provides an efficient way to access hosted resources on centrally managed servers. By combining the Leostream Connection Broker with a high-performance protocol, managing a hosted Linux environment can be as simple, seamless, and powerful as a hosted Windows environment.

This talk was given at a Cloud Security Alliance Event in Lausanne April 29th, 2015.
Organized by the CSA CH chapter, the topic was about Trust issues in Cloud Computing in general. In this talk, I gave our feedback and the approach we have with customers when asked about security. The framework and tools offered by the cloud security alliance are a great help and help define a comparison base.
In the end, trust is always relative and rarely absolute. Cloud providers can and are in most cases a security asset rather than an additional risk.

Pol will provide a range of experiences and insights into Cloud Computing – from a practitioner's perspective. In this respect, Pol brings a unique, 'hands-on' perspective to IBM Cloud Computing capability and how it is being used in 'the wild'. As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of technologies, XML continues to play a vital role in structuring, storing, and transporting data across diverse systems. The recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) present new methodologies for enhancing XML development workflows, introducing efficiency, automation, and intelligent capabilities. This presentation will outline the scope and perspective of utilizing AI in XML development. We will explore the capabilities of AI in understanding XML markup languages and autonomously creating structured XML content.
