The document outlines a student's proposed music video for the song "Moving On" by the band Steriogram. The student proposes shooting narrative scenes of a man acting out and getting into trouble after a breakup, intercut with performance scenes of the band playing. The video aims to have an upbeat, comedic tone despite the unfortunate events, and ends with the man finding solace playing music with friends again.
This is a brief, mostly visual treatment analysis for my group's music video for Weezer - Memories. The point of a treatment is to give a visual representation of the kind of graphics and shooting methods one would like in their own music video. We have just simply taken some images off of Google to represent the kind of colours, contrasts, images and scenes we'd like to see in our own music video.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. I have chose the song ‘Moving On’ by
Steriogram. This song is very jumpy and has a
positive feel to it, and predominantly consists of
a few guys smashing stuff up, being stupid and
having a laugh, getting crazier and crazier as the
video progresses.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JABnv47jrtI
The band who made this song for their album
‘Taping the Radio’.They are predominantly
Punk Rock, but can be classed into many genres
due to the variation of the songs.Their target
audience is niche, as they are not a mainstream
Band, so their fans vary in terms of age, gender
and musical preferences, but primarily they
range from 16-25 year old males, of whom my
music video will appeal too.
3. My Basic Idea/ Concept
Scene (1) – Man on a bridge, looking at phone with picture of
girl on. Chucks phone off the bridge, walks away. Intense fed
up emotion as he sulks off somewhere else.
Scene (2) – Robbing gang, stealing money, drugs and a guitar.
A rebellious stage in the video where he openly breaks the law
due to what happens, and is in way over his head.
Scene (3) – Steals a car, badly drives away in an attempt not to
get caught, stalls a lot. Attempts a donut and Is generally
messing around with the car doing what he wants.
Scene (4) – Driving around, contemplating what he’s done,
suddenly turns around and gets out the car. He feels stupid,
remorseful and continues to sulk.
Scene (5) – Heading up stairs past a factory, is going up these
stairs, super nervous, feeling tense. In an unknown location,
nobody knows what's ahead of the stairs waiting for him.
Scene (6) – Finds entire band waiting for him to jam, and the
video finishes on them all playing and singing to the end of the
song, which has a faster pace and more epic sound to the
music.
4. I am going to create an upbeat video based on a man who has been
dumped, and starts down an arrogant unfortunate path, which leads to
him getting in unfortunate trouble. Eventually, his mates bring him back
into reality and they all decide to jam, ending the music video.
I want to video to be 50% Narrative and 50% story, but depending on
how filming goes when the times comes this may change. This will
include lip syncing and a narrative following the perspective of the main
character. The song is generally upbeat and this is how I want the music
to feel, however the happier music overseeing all the unfortunate things
happening to my main character will create a slightly comical to the
music video.
5. will use a variety of camera angles, included Canted angles, used at the
beginning to induce the effect of the main actor being disorientated and
confused, as well as high angle shots to make my character seem inferior
and small, as well as a variety of basic camera angles, such as fixed,
panned, close ups and long shots.
My close up camera shots will be used in
order to utilize the anger that my main
actor feels, as this will give them a clear
view of their face.
I also want to use slow motions effect in
many shots, such as when my character
smashes a guitar to emphasize the actions
that he does.
6. My main idea to my video is my original idea, but I took influences from the Foo
Fighters music video ‘Walk’ in terms of comedy and the ending it has greatly
influenced my ideas.
Another influence that I have for my video’s comes from the band Pierce theVeil.
They are well know for smashing up guitars and equipment in videos and this is
what I aim to do in order to add chaos and entertainment to my video, and to
make it appealing towards my target audience.
All of these chaotic ideas add to the Anarchy and Rebellious feel that rock videos
usually aim for. As rock music is a lot about expressing feelings, this shows my
actor taking out his angst and aggression out.
7. Star Iconography: I will be utilizing this convention greatly, as my main
actor will dress in an alternative style, with coloured hair and piercings.
This gives my character his own individual identity, which in turn works
with his personality.
Lyrics,Visuals and Close Ups:As previously said,
I will be utilizing close ups, in order to accurately
show the emotion and face of my character. As
also previously said I will be using lip syncing for
the performance, but I will not have any on
screen visual lyrics, as I feel that this will take
any realism that I want to possess in my video.
8. Voyeurism: I will not be usingVoyeurism, as I do not
think It would be appropriate for my type of the music
video, as I want it to be more focused on actions rather
than the appearance of one character.
Intertextuality: This is where a text or video directly
refers to another, alike to theTaylor Swift music video
‘Bad Blood’. I will not be incorporating intertextuality in
my video, as I do not feel it is completely necessary
and the effort would not be worth it.
Genre:The genre of my music video is rock, this means
I will incorporate and utilize faster camera angles and
an overall more chaotic feel to my music video, with
less emotion than most, and aspects of comedy, due to
the tradition ‘Rock/Punk’ feel I want my video to have.
9. She's got a feeling that its all wrapped up
with her third margarita at the restaurant
and when i walk on beside her
well im already lost
she's all out of love
i better move on
I wake in the morning to a rat tat tat
she came by to try and get her records back
and with a half way smile and her shoulders cold
her body was the shell to a blackened soul
she's got her ticket and she's already gone
she already sang me her getaway song
she's got another and he's already on
they're already fucking so i better be gone
no time regretting, move on forget it, undo committed
she's got her ticket and she's already gone
she already sang me her getaway song
she's got another and he's already on
she already loves him so i better get moving on
A fast paced start with a repeating
Chord. Starts the video off, upbeat
And fast. Relationship starts to break
Down in the video.
Music slows down for the first verse,
Narrative comes more into play as
He’s becoming more angry and upset.
Main character attains a carless attitude
And does lots of stupid things as the
Song progresses at the same pace.
Final quarter of the music video as the
Music slows down, my main character
Will have a change of heart, and come
To terms with reality, and as the video ends,
He finds himself jamming with his friends as
He forgets everything that happened.
10. The tempo is relatively fast with an average of 180 bpm. This influenced my camera
changes and how quickly I switch to different shots and angles, adding pace and speed to
the video.
The intro to this video if fast paced, so the introduction to video will be quick and
spontaneous, dragging the audience into the story almost instantly.
Performance:
Instrumental wise, traditional rock band instruments are used. (Guitar, drums and Bass).
This is good, as it allows me to easily set up my performers with the instruments I already
have. My performers will be set in a room that I will rent out, which looks like a traditional
band practice room, this is where all the performance that isn’t vocals will take place.
11. Performers: I will using my friend, Callum as my main performer. He has coloured hair, piercings and has
an appearance that will suit the style of my videos. He is also a member of a band, of whom I will be
recording for performance parts of my video, taking the main stage at the end of my video.
Locations: For the narrative, I will be filming my main actor in various places. Including my own home
as his home in the video, a bridge next to the quays in Gloucester, and some abandoned buildings near
the Quays. These locations are relatively free of other people so I wouldn’t need to worry about
background people ruining how realistic the video feels. For my performance I will be recording my
friends band, in a music practice room that I will rent in the Match Factory.
Props Required: I am
going to need an entire
bands worth of equipment
which should be supplied
by one of my shooting
locations. However, I will
supply the guitar which
will be smashed and also
the mobile phone at the
beginning.
The band I’ll be filmingMy Location
12. Editing Ideas and Effects: I have a range of ideas in terms of
editing that I want to use in the process of making my music
video. Most of these will adapt in the process of making the
video, but I did want to change the lighting depending on
the mood. By editing the light at the beginning to be darker,
and the end to be lighter I can greatly affect the mood of the
video and control the direction it goes in, alike to videos
such as ‘Drown’ by ‘Front Porch Step’ who used dark lighting
in order to make their video seem depressing.Other ideas I
had include:
Rapid Camera changes to create chaotic scenes
Focusing and Unfocusing to control audiences attention
Camera shaking on high impact moment (Guitar Smashes)
