QUESTION TWO
Age Gender Social Class
Due to the images featured throughout
my product my music magazine
represents women from the age of 16 to
25 as they are generally the age who are
interested in chart music and
appearance plays a big influence in their
lives. It represents the younger society as
the language is adapted more for 16-25
year olds as it uses words such as
“festivals” and “iTunes” and therefore
these specific words engage my
audience as they are age bracket who go
to festivals and download music via
iTunes. Furthermore, the models used
throughout the magazine are of a similar
age to the audience and therefore my
music magazine produces a relatable
image for women aged 16-25, for
instance the clothes worn throughout my
music magazine represent the modern
young women within society. The target
audience reading this magazine will
aspire to look like the models and gain
not just music knowledge from this
magazine but also inspiration.
This was a tricky one to justify but after
long consideration I decided to focus
more on women throughout my
magazine as it’s easier to specifically
target. To make sure I stuck with women
I made the decision to just feature
females in my magazine as I believe it
engages my target audience as it helps
represent a relatable image for the
modern women. Appearance played a big
influence when representing gender as I
wanted to create relatable artists that my
target audience could aspire to be like.
For instance the models complexion
throughout my magazine is flawless and
this represents how every women wants
to look and therefore it will make them
more engaged with my magazine and
more likely to read it. All the visual and
language features create this ideology of
the perfect female and therefore that’s
why I choose to aim it just specifically
just at women rather than open it up to
both genders.
I wasn’t going to include this one but
then I thought it did portray a certain
class rather than others. I would say my
magazine is aimed at working to middle
class women due to the language and
visual techniques. Firstly, the clothes of
the artists featured in my magazines
aren’t particularly fancy, they aren’t Gucci
or Chanel, they are realistic clothes of a
modern working middle class women
therefore the clothes help attract my
specific target audience. Secondly, the
language is adapted for certain social
classes as it gives the target audience a
chance to win tickets to festivals and
tours and generally these two social
classes are more interested in these
attractions as they like the opportunity to
win free tickets. Rather than upper class
who have enough money to buy their own
tickets and therefore my magazine gives
certain social classes a chance to win
free tickets to festivals and therefore it
engages them and this magazine is more
suited for them.
