This document contains tips for taking portraits, using the software GIMP, and making a music video. It provides 3 steps for using GIMP to cut out backgrounds: select the area, invert the selection, and delete to remove the background. Additional steps are outlined for editing multiple layered images in GIMP. For music videos, it recommends storyboarding first, then filming with different angles and extra footage, and finally editing the clips in time with the music and adding effects. The document was written by Taina Da Silva for their Media Arts class.

My goal with this document was to guide someone through the basic functions for Techsmith Snagit.
My main challenge was to instruct in a manner that was highly comprehensively and allowed for contingences where the reader may have become confused and stuck. I provided visual cues that illustrate what was being taught and provided opportunities for the reader to explore and develop their skills with the application.

• This follows the rule of thirds because the eyes line up with
the middle. It is very common for photographers to follow this
rule to enhance and make the picture LOOK better.
3. Portrait tip 2
• When taking portraits, you never
want to have a blank expression on
your face. Smiling is always good.
• Wearing a shirt that accents your
skin works too, a white shirt can
make you look pale where as a black
or brown shirt can make you look
more tan.
• Positioning your body to the camera
is something to keep in mind as
well, such as how your shoulders are
pointed towards the camera or chin.
4. Portrait tip 3
• Make sure your clothing is not
the same color as the
background, this can create an
invisible illusion.
• Try to keep your clothing as
simple as possible, too much
patterns are no good.

8. How to make a music video
• The first thing you
have to do is create
your storyboard. This
has got to be the most
important part of your
music video. Every
detail must be
planned and made on
your storyboard.
9. How to make a music video
• Once you’ve got
everything planned on
your storyboard, then
you’re set to start
shooting your clips.
• Try to use different
angles.
• Get as much footage as
you can so you’ll have
the right scenes you
want. It’s easy to cut
out parts once you edit
it.
10. How to make a music video
• Now that you’ve got all your
footage, it’s time to edit!
• First thing you want to do is
insert your music.
• Then start inserting your clips
and cut them to the desired
time one by one.
• After you’ve done that and all
your clips are in order, make
sure your music and clips are at
the same length.
• Now that you’ve got everything
set, you can start fooling around
with the effects and make it
look awesome.
