- The first issue of the daily mail was released in 1896
- The first circulation amount was 100,000
- In 1933 Lord Rothermere dedicated a lot of his editorial space to fascism as he was
friend with Adolf Hitler
- On 16 July 1993 the Mail ran the headline "Abortion hope after 'gay genes'
finding”
- In March 2015, James King, a former contract worker at the Mail's New York
office, wrote an article for Gawker titled 'My Year Ripping Off the Web With the
Daily Mail Online'. In the article, King alleged that the Mail's approach was to
rewrite stories from other news outlets with minimal credit in order to gain

- The times uses less of an eye catching headline and has
more information on its front page.
- It doesn't have any ads on its front page and uses a large
image to catch the reader's eye

giving the reader an idea of what will be inside
6. The history of The Times
● began in 1785 under the title The Daily Universal Register
● It adopted its current name on 1 January 1788
● The Times faced financial extinction in 1890
● In 1981, The Times and The Sunday Times were bought from Thomson by
Rupert Murdoch's News International
7. Political persuasion
● Historically, the paper was not overtly pro-Tory or Whig, but has been a long
time bastion of the English Establishment and empire
● The Times was "peculiarly detached" at the 1945 general election
● the newspaper reverted to the Tories for the next election five years later. It
supported the Conservatives for the subsequent three elections
● Today, they support the labour party
8. Popularity in the UK
● By March 2014, average daily circulation of The Times had fallen to 394,448
copies, compared to The Daily Telegraph's 523,048
● The Sunday Times has a significantly higher circulation than The Times, and
sometimes outsells The Sunday Telegraph. In May 2017 The Times had a
circulation of 445,737 and The Sunday Times of 775,188
● The Times was found to have the highest number of 25–44 readers and the
largest numbers of readers in London of any of the "quality" papers.
9. Target audience
● Middle to upper class people that can afford to subscribe to the paper
● Older people mainly adults that are interested in current affairs and are good at
reading as there’s a lot of information
● Also targeted at elderly as they are used to reading newspapers instead of
watching news
11. Difference of the stories
● Daily mail consists of purely pictures and large text titles that take up a lot of
space where the times has information and text on the story. This gives it a more
professional image
● The times also has facts and figures about the story which helps keep the readers
informed including a quote from the US President
● Both papers have the same image of the shooter however the daily mail’s picture
isn’t cropped out and shows the shooter with his partner emphasising he was an
ordinary man
● You can see the prices of each newspaper on the front cover and the daily mail is
cheaper which is evident by the quality of the paper
