Medea And Antigone Character Analysis
Both of the plays Medea and Antigone have tragic themes and their main characters are women who
find themselves unhappy and so decide to act on behalf of these feelings. In both cases the result is a
climax at the end of the play in the form of several deaths. One of the main reasons they decide to
act is because they find it difficult to cope with competition of other women. Both Jean Anouilh in
his play Antigone and Euripides in his play Medea have based their tragic plots on the roles of
jealousy and spite and the extremes they can make a person go to. In my analysis I will first look at
the effects competition has on both Medea and Antigone, in particular jealousy. After this, I will
discus the aspirations both women have as a result of feeling jealous and how other characters in the
play see them. Finally I will look at how the two characters act on impulse of their jealousy and
compare what it leads to in each play.
When talking about the character's jealousy it is important to first determine who is the cause of
these feelings. In both cases, we could say it is other, in the characters opinion 'rival', women. In
Antigone's case, the jealousy is aimed mainly at her "radiant" and "beautiful" sister Ismene. Ismene
is not only the more beautiful of the two sisters, but she is also more favoured and admired by the
others.
"Ismene surrounded by a group of young men..."
Here we can see Ismene gets most attention. She is admired by young men and enjoys her life.

Blue Jeans, the Ultimate American Icon Essay examples
Blue Jeans, the Ultimate American Icon
Gold was discovered in California in 1849. This resulted in more than eighty thousand American's
rushing to California. The pioneering spirit spread and by 1890, the West's population reached
nearly 17 million. The west became the most racially diverse part of the country. All were in search
of a better life for themselves and their families, seeking what would become known as the
American Dream. During this time innovation and creation were prompting remarkable growth in
industry. New products that made life more tolerable were spreading to all classes of people. One
popular item of clothing that can trace its roots to the Gold Rush is blue jeans. Blue jeans grew out
of necessity but they now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When film spread across the country in the early 1900's so did romanticized pictures of the west.
Western films portrayed the conquest of the frontier in the name of civilization. In these films, the
plot was almost always about good versus bad. The films usually showed the cowboy riding into a
lawless town and restoring order. Typical elements of western films included breathtaking settings
and open landscapes. In all the western films, the cowboys wore the same wardrobe, blue jeans and
boots. Americans living in the East became enamored with the West. Easterners began traveling
west to places like dude ranches to experience the spirit of the Wild West. Of course, the experience
was not complete with out the costume. Thus, blue jeans were purchased for the first time by non–
westerners.
Blue jeans were no longer just for the hard working miners. People from the East bought them for
trips to the West. They brought them back East with them. In the East, blue jeans were not worn
often by all. Schoolchildren, boys in particular were often the only ones wearing them. Parents,
especially those of limited means, bought jeans for their children because of their durability. During
the 1930's blue jeans were found all throughout schools. Children grew up wearing blue jeans. Jeans
had become a common article of clothing for a new generation. Blue jeans sales rose at a steady
pace after the Great Depression.

An Analysis of Two Key Passages in Antigone
An Analysis of Two Key Passages in Antigone
During the Nazi occupation of France, Jean Anouilh produced an adaptation of Sophocles' tragedy,
Antigone, as a representation of the struggle between those collaborating with the occupants and
those resisting them. While it is possible to read Anouilh's Antigone as a 'texte de la Resistance', it
can also be interpreted as an apologia for the Nazis' severe, authoritarian behavior. The two key
passages selected are crucial to the development of the play in that they highlight the clash between
ideologies. While Antigone's speech offers an insight into her idealistic world view, Creon's
dialogue exposes his pragmatic approach to life. This conflict of thought and action epitomizes the
conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The harshness of Antigone's outlook is emphasised by Anouilh yet again when he has her say that
Oedipus only became beautiful "when all hope was gone, stamped out like a beetle"[Passage A, line
26]. The violent nature of this simile reinforces Antigone's strong belief in the value self–
renunciation. Simultaneously, it emphasizes that the majority of ordinary citizens blindly follow the
dictates of Creon's government and his pedestrian mode of thought, aiming for nothing more than
the contentment of getting on with their lives. Repellent natural imagery is further utilized to
distinguish Antigone's higher aims from those of Creon and all those who are attached to life at any
cost: "You [Creon] are all like dogs that lick everything they smell"[Passage A, line 7]. This
degrades Creon and his followers–or fellow Collaborators–to mere animals in that they live by their
animalistic impulses, most of all the will to live, rather than upon any higher aim. This implies that
pragmatism requires minimal thought or emotional effort, while idealism on the other hand,
demands a powerful self–control that can sublimate the animal will to live, and requires an advanced
intellectual and emotional level. It demands the renunciation of the saint, but as an existentialist

Essay on The Cultural Invasion of Kenya
The Cultural Invasion of Kenya
A screeching yell ripped through the house that Wednesday evening, "Ahhhhh, we're being
invaded!". My mother rushed into the living room. I pointed to the flickering television screen.
"Look," I whispered in disbelief. A few seconds of silence followed. There they were, the words I
never thought would appear on our 29 inch Sony screen: "Sizzlin' Hot Country". The appearance of
American country music on the Kenyan airwaves was the latest sign that American culture had
penetrated the borders of my country. The airing of Garth Brooks and Dolly Parton on the local
television station is not the only evidence of the rapid spread of American culture in Kenya. One
look at a large portion of its youth and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pete was an example of a victim of the culture invasion. He would often be seen with his pants held
precariously at his hips only by a belt. Sagging soon caught on with many students and yet again, I
admit, with me. Sagging probably had its origins in the popular American hip hop that appears on
many local channels. While walking around in school, I would find students mimicking the popular
'2 Pac' and 'Dr. Dre', with a "Wesssaaid" sounding in the air occasionally. A friend was also
nicknamed Krayzie Bone, after a member of the Bone Thugs– N– Harmony group. Baggy jeans that
could have fit two people at a time were also the order of the day at many parties and get–togethers.
Donning DKNY, Karlkani, CK and Adidas attire made one hip. Jeans had become such a popular
article that during our school's annual Cultural Day, the only day when one could or would show off
one's cultural attire, they were banned.
School dances and parties rarely featured traditional songs. Instead, American icons like Aaliyah, Dr
Dre and Britney Spears dominated the playlists. Roaming the grounds of my secondary school, I
would find a girl singing out "What a girl wants, what a girl..." in a desperate attempt to mimic pop
idol Christina Aguilera. For some reason, emulating American youth was trendy. Rakim, another
one of my friends, was popular for putting on an American accent when talking with girls. This act
of putting on a fake American accent was so

How Did Levis Impact The World
Levi Strauss woke up one day, not knowing that he would impact the world forever. You maybe be
asking, "What in the world did Strauss do?" He was the one who invented Genes! (Or What we call
nowadays Jeans.) Here is some back information about Levi Strauss' life. He was born February 26,
1829, in the city of Buttenheim, Germany. He has six siblings and he was the youngest. Growing up
in Germany for him was hard because he was Jewish. When Levi was sixteen, his father passed
away from a disease. This was the time where he moved to America. After a few years, the Gold
Rush came into play. He decided that it would be good opportunity to make a business. So he moved
to California to find some inspiration. In the 1850's he moved from New York to California where
he opened a shop selling supplies to miners. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was making covers for the 49ers but then he decided to make pants instead. He didn't think that
this would make an impact. It was just one of the normal things that people sold in the shop. He
named the jeans "Miners Pant's" and that's where everything started. But people saw it as something
different. Miners loved the pants so much it became super popular. In a matter of time, Strauss was
working so hard for everyone to get at least one pair. Soon he edited his pants once again and started
to use blue denim (Which are pronounced 'Genes' in French but in English it is 'Jeans') for his pants.
Then soon in 1872, Jacob Davis, a Nevada Tailor, sent a letter. He requested something that he
couldn't do. Adding rivets or what we know, pockets. Jacob didn't have the money to complete the
patent process so he decided to tell Strauss. And so, the jeans we know and love were

Similarities Between Antigone And Jean Anouilh
Essay #2 Option 1
11/27/17
Sophocles and Jean Anouilh use simplistic storytelling in order to discuss the events and societal
norms of the times when they were writing Antigone. When the tales are stripped down to their key
stories, they both are about a defiant girl who goes against her uncle in order to do what she believes
is morally right. In regard to the definition of tragedy, Sophocles follows the Greek standard of
tragedy. By making Creon the tragic hero who is plagued by his own ego and unchanging ways
when it comes to power. Anouilh puts a twist on the Greek tragedy by putting the focus on Antigone
and not having the typical tragic hero who is unattached from the audience. Instead, Antigone is a
heroine with everyday imperfections and emotions which seek to inspire people to condemn the
French's relationship with Nazi Germany during the Second World War. Sophocles makes Creon the
tragic hero. He can be seen as the traditional Greek tragic hero since he falls from a noble position
of power and loses those closest to him. He is egocentric and ends up being defeated by his rigid
sense of pride. He believes his authority is absolute and should therefore never be disobeyed. This is
shown when he says, "But when the city takes a leader, you must obey" (Sophocles 666). With this,
he expects full allegiance from his family, especially from his own son. His attitude exemplifies that
he is filled with hubris. In terms of Greek tragedy, hubris is a cockiness that offends

Fashion Change over the Decades
How the change in fashion over the decades has represents ones particular lifestyle Introduction
Fashion is a way of expressing one's self through clothing which could be influenced by a particular
era or group fighting for a cause or representing a certain groups with the same interests. This essay
aims to highlight how a group of people have a certain persona that can be so 'large' that it will
influence the way they dress and their beliefs and lifestyle. This analysed over decades. In each
paragraph I am going to highlight how a specific group or event that occurred in the particular
decade influenced the fashion in America. My conclusion will basically prove my thesis. Fashion in
the 1970's The 1970s was the decade of the mods and the hippies. Men and women were wearing
tight pants and bell bottoms were also huge in the 70's. At times it was difficult to make a clear
distinction of what was seen appropriate for home and what was seen appropriate for a night out.
Women were seen pairing low cut pants with high cut boots, "....this was probably also the first full
decade in which women could be seen wearing pants in every walk of life." retro waste. Available

Hollywood trends and narrowed their target market to the likes of celebrities and high fashion
‘gurus' who don't seem to mind forking out $400 for a pair of jeans. Currently, True Religion's

True Religion employs a production supervisor to monitor its contract manufacturers and an
accountant to maintain the books and records of the company. In the very near future the company
plans to hire two employees to sew and produce its samples for sale and a chief operating officer
responsible for manufacturing, operations and finance. Being so young, the company is still
branching out, has plans of hiring a lot of new staff, and is looking forward to establishing a real
‘structure'. With only a limited number of employees, it is hard to tell whether these employees are
really educated and informed on the matters of decision making, or if they are just making the best
decisions they can, based on limited information or previous knowledge. It is VERY important to
have professionals in each field (ie. Production, engineering, marketing, R&D, accounting, etc) to
make the best informed decision.
The structure most appropriate for this new brand would be the simple, functional organizational
structure, CEO and Presidents Jeffrey and Kym Lubell reigning high on the ladder, and having a
designated professional working under them and making more centralized decisions. Currently the
Lubells make the final decisions, enhancing the organizational perspective across all functions of the
organization. This structure facilitates career paths and professional development in specialized

Stereotypical Judgement Essay
Who are you? Who am I? We are different, but we get judged, every day, every hour, every minute
people judge you, on your appearance, on your style, on your attributes. Yet they don't even know
you. It is proven that in the first few moments of meeting someone, we form an opinion of them.
Our society's biggest downfall is that we define people on stereotypical judgements. One of the
clearest examples in today's society is Donald Trump. He claims to ban all Muslims to enter the
USA. That is a stereotypical judgment that he has towards Muslims. He believes all Muslims are
terrorist, as per CNN report Islam is the fastest growing religion in the US; and according to their
report, in the USA some top Doctors and Engineers believe in Islam. So where does he get his
claims from? Why does he create these stereotypical judgements against them? Why can't he work
along with them so that we can live in a better world?
We judge people by their race, we judge people by where they come from, we judge people by the
way they speak. Today, we say all Muslims are terrorist, well if that was the case, wouldn't all
Christians be in the KKK, if this was true we would probably be dead. There are about 2 billion
Muslims in the world, that's about 29% of the world's population; if they all were terrorists the odds
of our survival are slim. We judge a race on the acts of a few, what if not every Muslim we saw was
planning to kill us, what if they are everyday people like you and me. We have put

What was once a small denim company has grown into a true denim empire that can be found
throughout 50 cities from Montreal to London. Thriving since 2004, Buffalo David Bitton employs
about 300 people and continues to open stores across the globe.
In regards to competition, Buffalo's main competitors vary for both the men's and women's lines.
For men, competitors include True Religion, Citizens of Humanity, Hudson, Michael Kors, Diesel,
Burberry, and more. Luckily, Buffalo has identified that their male customers are loyal. Males who
buy Buffalo jeans are unlikely to switch to another brand. For women however, the competition is
much more difficult. Women are more concerned with prices and how the jeans make them look and
feel. Therefore, developing brand loyalty is more of a challenge. Competitors in the women's sector
incorporate the same competitors for men, in addition to about 20 more brands, making it harder to
grab the consumer's attention.

True Religion Jeans Case
The ups and downs of the premium jeans industry and the constant fluctuating of threats to the
industry made it interesting to see how the denim lines would respond. They were originated in the
1970s by Calvin Klein who created highly priced, skin tight jeans who used celebrities (i.e. Brooke
Shields) to endorse the product. Since they were higher priced compared to your common, regular
blue jeans sold by mainstream brands like Lee and Wrangler, they were meant to serve as fashion
statements as opposed to comfort. They started off well in early on in the 1980s, but then hit a
decline just a few years later. The mid 1990s came and they surpassed their highest annual sales in

As we discussed in class, a threat of substitute does not necessarily just mean other high end,
premium, higher priced jeans. Substitutes could include any types of jeans. There are skinny jeans
that are mentioned throughout the case, as well as slim cut jeans, straight cut jeans,
low/medium/high rise jeans, etc. Any type of jean poses as a threat to premium denim jeans because
consumers fashion senses are constantly changing. As of late, more people have shifted towards the
casual, relaxed fit jean type of lifestyle, as opposed to before the down economy started in 2008
where many were trending more towards the "fashion forward" or the "aspirational shopper" as the
case described. The aspirational shopper consists of a middle class person ($75,000–150,000 income
per year) who is willing to buy luxurious, high–end jeans. So the overall point here is that all jean
types are a threat of substitutes. Another layer of substitutes could really be any type of pants in
general. People love wearing sweat pants around the house, females tend to wear a lot of dresses and
skirts nowadays, leather pants are somewhat of a trend, and everybody wears shorts at some point in
the year. So these are threats of substitutes as well. Lastly, any other high–end products people could
choose to spend money on pose as threats as well. Maybe consumers will choose to spend their
money on high–end accessories such as a new watch, or maybe a handbag or scarf if

The 1960s were an age of fashion innovation for women. The ("1960s In Western Fashion") article

The For Your Child 's Winter Essay
You can't miss the nip in the air, and as the year draws to an end, the mercury is going to dip even
further. This also means it's time to pull out all those colourful woollies that have been languishing
in the cupboard, and maybe buy some new ones to stay in sync with the season's trends. Gone are
the days when the over–sized woolens came in monotonous and boring winter shades. Now, you can
splurge on colours and watch your child radiate the brightness. Red is big for girls and boys, and the
metallics that lit up the runways in the fall are also gracing kids' winter lines.
When choosing woolens for your child, practicality is of utmost importance. But don't overlook the
fashion angle. Kids, these days, are extremely conscious about what they wear. Here are a few
winter must–haves for your child.
1. Just jackets
Your child's winter wardrobe would be incomplete without a warm and colourful jacket. Depending
on where you are stationed, you can opt for a quilt lined jacket, a football jacket, a classic denim one
or the contemporary ones that look more like coats. Cotton, Light and medium poly fill jackets are
in fashion these days, with sweat jackets ruling the fashion scene. Jackets, not only provide ample
warmth, but when zipped right up, take care of the entire upper torso without you having to worry
much. Little girls can add a few frills and flowers to their jackets without thinking twice. And if it's
not too cold, they can even go for chic shrugs.

Similarities Between 70 And 70
The 70's v. 2017 Life in the 70's was very different than it is today. When you compare the 1970s to
2017 you can see the huge differences, and maybe some similarities. A lot has changed since the
70's, including the style, lifestyle, pop culture, and more. Since the 70's a lot has changed, we have
changed in some ways and are similar in more ways than one. Here are the differences and
similarities between the 70's and today, 2017. In the 70's the first president of the decade was
Richard Nixon, he was the 37th president and was in office 1969–1974. Eventually Gerald Ford
held office after Nixon resigned to avoid the eventual outcome of Watergate, which would have led
to impeachment. Jimmy Carter then served as president in years 1977–1981, with Walter Mondale
as vice president. Today in 2017 we have Donald Trump and Mike Pence, and people are begging
for Trump to be impeached, similar to Nixon. Though people do see impeachment in Trump's future,
but some do not. Another difference since the 70's is the inflation of the dollar. A dollar in 1970 is
worth $6.30 today, which is a 530.0% increase. A dollar in 1979 is worth $3.37, which is a 237%
increase. When comparing the 70's to today it is always best to compare the cost of living. In 1970
minimum wage was $1.60, today in New Mexico minimum wage is now $9.25. A year of tuition at a
public college was about $1,200 in the 70's, according to the college board, the average student
payed about $9,650 for tuition. In January of

him by saying we would clean the house and clean and take care of the dog. One day before my
sisters dance recital Mia and I were in the middle of watching TV when we saw an ad for a free dog
we ran outside and begged for a dog. So he said he would think about it if we all could behave and
keep the house clean. So we worked our hardest to keep the house clean, from cleaning my little
brother's bedroom to cleaning both bathrooms. He lived up to his promise and started looking at
dogs on Facebook we found one that was close by in Norwich and we were so excited when we
found out that we were going to meet him after my brothers game. We were so excited at the game
that we walked around to pass the time we sat on the dock at the park next to the field and were so
excited we thought looking in the river would help pass time but it really made it go by slower.

Self Reflection
Being placed in a judgmental society such as the one we have today has diminished the self–
confidence we as individuals have begun to shape for ourselves. "...our preferences for particular
body types are not biologically ingrained but... shaped by the cultural norms of beauty
communicated through magazine ads, commercials, and movies" (EOS pg. 50). As weak individuals
living in a controlling society we tend to examine our own personal qualities and the depiction that
others have for us, and morph ourselves into beings crave social acceptance, even if we lose sight of
our own identities . The question I ponder is how can individuals truly see and value their selves in a
society full of judgement? There comes a point in our lives where we truly ... Show more content on

Outer presences tend to deviate a person from the one they truly are on the inside. That is one
concept our society has developed, an evaluation of an individual that influences a judgmental state
of mind.
Lastly to fulfill the completeness of my avatar was a selected wardrobe that embodied my style. The
wardrobe I selected was a simple blue jean jacket with a pair of ripped blue jeans accompanied by
white gym shoes. My style of accouterment represents my style as fashionable and poised. When
selecting apparel, we have a variety of different choices. Other's might define themselves as edgy
while others might choose a completely opposite style more refined and conservative. To think more
in depth, our society has divided our collection of attire also based on gender, "Styles of
dress...normally help signify differences between the sexes" (EOS pg. 56). Before starting the
process of developing our avatars we are asked a simple question of what gender we define as. Our
society has placed this norm as identifying ourselves as either female or male. What if our avatars
wanted to identify themselves as something other than those two selections such as being
transgender for example, those select individuals would still be stuck to choose between those two
characteristics because that is what our society has deemed as normal and morally right.
Furthermore, the difficulty in producing an avatar based on a

designed using only removable designer buttons and rivets at the original opening, and additional
removable designer buttons with an extended fastener that will rest in the belt loop. Two additional
removable designer buttons and rivets will be supplied and attached to the sales tag on the back

will also design and market an array of replaceable designer buttons and rivets at all retail outlets
that sell the jeans. LS & Co. currently sells women's jeans in the same space as men and
children jeans. However, there is a need for specialization in women's sizes. With the success of the

expect the prices on the tops especially be slashed again. Even though the denim on sale consists of

Comparing Sophocles' Antigone and Jean Anouilh's Antigone...
Both Sophocles and Jean Anouilh use the simple story–line of a girl defying her uncle and king in
the face of death to reflect upon the events and attitudes of their days. Sophocles' Antigone models
the classical pattern of tragedy by incorporating key elements such as a tragic hero with a fatal flaw
and the Man–God–Society triangle. Creon is the tragic hero who disturbs the natural harmony of
Thebes by denying Polyneices a funeral. Antigone is the catalyst who forces him to reckon with the
consequences of his pride and arrogance. In the twentieth century, Jean Anouilh takes Sophocles'
drama, strips it down to its core, and weaves an entirely different version of the story. Anouilh
redefines "tragedy" by removing the conventional tragic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Sophocles 220). Creon closes his mind even to the wise and aged Teiresias despite being counseled,
?a good man yields when he knows his course is wrong? (Sophocles 232). Thus, Sophocles? Creon
is the archetypal Greek tragic hero, setting the stage for the ensuing drama.
Antigone, on the other hand, is the maverick who dares to defy Creon, initiating the spiral of events
that cause both his downfall and realization of his misdeeds. Antigone rejects Creon?s authority in
favor of the higher Divine law, telling her sister Ismene, ?I will bury him; and if I must die, I say
that this crime is holy: I shall lie down with him in death? (Sophocles 192). When questioned by
Creon as to why she breaks the law, she asserts, ?It was not God?s proclamation. That final Justice
that rules the world below makes no such laws? (Sophocles 208). Antigone is unafraid of her
punishment claiming, ?this death of mine is of no importance; but if I had left my brother lying in
death unburied, I should have suffered? (Sophocles 208). She remains steadfast in her beliefs, never
compromising her principles to escape her uncle?s wrath. In her final address to the people, she
proclaims, ?you will remember what things I suffer, and at what men?s hands, because I would not
transgress the laws of heaven? (Sophocles 228). This indicates that she, alone, has chosen the
righteous path.

These opposites essentially represent not only the tendency of this world to possess conflicting
images, but also an individual's tendency to have conflicting emotions as well as the struggles
between individuals. Antigone and Wings of Desire are two exceptional works of art, that although
seem vastly diverse in terms of setting, form and style are however, in my opinion, linked through
their portrayal of the struggles experienced by individuals as well as the demonstration of
conflicting images and forces.
Antigone is a play that was first written by Sophocles in 442 BC and later adapted and rewritten by
Jean Anouilh. The story follows the epic tragic heroine Antigone and her downfall through her
opposition against the King Creon. Wings of Desire, directed by Wim Wenders is a 1987 Franco–
German film. It revolves around two angels, one of who is named Damiel who falls in love with a
human. He wishes to renounce his immortality for a chance to be with the woman he loves and to
experience human emotions and sensations.
Unlike most Greek tragedies, Antigone is not essentially about the opposing powers of good and
evil. Instead, the play demonstrates the conflict between one's duty towards their family and their
country and social expectations. "Antigone presents a conflict between family loyalty and loyalty to
the state, between demands of the state and the will of the individual" (MacKay, 166). The king

Victims of Society in The Outsider and Antigone Essay
Victims of Society in The Outsider and Antigone
Both Meursault and Antigone are the protagonists in their stories.
They have much in common, such as the fact that they explain their impending deaths as decided by
fate, even though each seems to have an easy way of surviving. Both are willing to die for what they
believe is right. The concept of fate is quite different between the texts. In
Antigone, a Chorus tells you at the beginning of the play that
Antigone will die. Antigone uses the excuse of fate to explain her own death to Creon, where as in
The Outsider fate is much more subtle.
First I will look at The Outsider and Meursault. Albert Camus wrote this novel as a challenge
against the death penalty and the society

Come to think of it, I wasn't unhappy'.
Meursault's mother's funeral is the first chapter of the novel, and the introduction to Meursault's
character. On the bus journey to his mother's old people's home he says only 'yes' to a soldier that
asks him a question because he does not want to talk. This is an example of the short sentences he
uses as dialogue and as narrator throughout the book. When he gets to the home, he does not cry or
act sad, showing us that he is quite emotionless. He points out to the caretaker that he is just another
inmate, with a little extra authority due to his position. Meursault does not recognise the caretaker's
authority as anything special, which is why he does not see the caretaker's point,
Meursault feels the same way about the judiciary in part 2. Camus makes the caretaker look stupid
because he does not see the truth that he is just an inmate with extra work. He may be making a
statement here about the way we try to make ourselves better by creating titles and roles. Authority
is linked to fate in that they are abstract concepts and both can be considered opposites to freedom.
During the first part of the novel, Meursault gets a girlfriend named
Marie. Meursault does not care whether they marry or not, much like
Antigone with Heamon. It could be said that Meursault agrees to marry
Marie for the same reason that Antigone agrees to marry Heamon, because they both know they are
going to die. This is evidence of

Essay Nonverbal Communication of the Breakfast Club
Shane Seemann
The Nonverbal Club
The Breakfast Club is such an interesting movie to use with this topic. The wide range of characters
allows for a variety of different interactions. The way we are going to approach this, is to look at
each character and examine the different interactions between.
Let us first start off with some good examples of Physical Appearances and Artifacts, or the personal
objects we use to announce our identities, interests and backgrounds. Our appearance includes
everything from our body type to our hair style to our skin color to eye color to height. (Orbe &

The fact that he took drugs and a knife to school tells us that he doesn't care about his education or
feel that it is worth his time. Although, Bender giving his sunglasses to Brian really warmed my
heart. It showed that Bender had kind of taken a liking to Brian. Who probably took a lot of
confidence from it as demonstrated by the relaxed and confident demeanor he had after he put them
on. Brian thought that if he could wear glasses like Bender did, that he would become a little more
like him. One last thing about Artifacts, and I hate writing about the end of the movie in the middle
of a paper, but when Allison takes a patch off of Andy's letterman jacket, it warmed my heart a little.
Her taking the patch, meaning that by taking this artifact from him, no matter the social restrictions,
they would always have the bond they created that day.
Now let us discuss Proxemics. Proxemics, or the way we use space to communicate (Orbe &
Bruess, 2005) is shown right away in the film, when Andy sits down next to Claire and away from
the other students. Obviously they are more comfortable sitting next to each other because they are
closer in the social pyramid. About a half an hour into the movie, after the scene where the group
starts whistling, it shows another good example of Proxemics. All of the characters are bundled up
in the front area of the class, all except Allison. She is still sitting in the back of the room. This
speaks to her resistance to

6. Which of the six environmental activism segments discussed in Chapter 3 (p. 90) does the Levi's
Eco jean appeal to most? Explain.
The Levis Eco will appeal mostly to the True Naturals because they express deeply felt
environmental concerns and tailor their actions and purchases to these beliefs. Since the jeans are
made out of organic cotton, the True Naturals will be very appealed by it since they are for saving
the environment.
7. Given what you know about organic buyers from Chapter 3, do you think Levi's Eco helps Levi's
with younger consumers? Explain.
Given what I know, Levis Eco brand will not interest the younger customers because in the most
part, the younger don't really pay attention to environmental issues and so having organic cotton
jeans will not impress them to the point that they will buy it for that matter.
8. Do you think there is a core image of Levi's that can survive across the wide range of prices and
outlets that it operates in? What is it?
I don't believe there can be just one core image about Levis because it has such a wide variety of

Levi 's Strauss And Co Essay
Levi's Strauss & Co
Two years after his father's passing, Levi Strauss immigrated from Buttenheim, Bavaria to New
York with his sisters in 1848. His two older brothers owned a dry goods business called "J. Strauss
Brother & Co" located in New York City. After becoming more familiar with the trade and how the
business worked, he traveled to California after word got out about the gold rush in 1853. Levi
wanted to keep up with the demand, so where there were people looking for their fortune through
gold, he was there making pants for them and the people who worked in tougher conditions.
Levi received a letter around 1872 from a loyal customer of his. Jacob Davis was a tailor from Reno,
Nevada loved his design of pants and continued to buy from Levi because of the pant's quality. He
had a proposition for Levi. In this letter it proposed on collaborating on a new design for pants were
using metal rivets on the sections that go through the most strain, would make the pants last much
longer. Jacob came to Levi because Levi was already established as a businessman and was familiar
with the trade. Also he needed someone that was familiar with the trade to put this idea into action.
Levi agreed to patent the idea. On May 20, 1873, the patent was given to Jacob Davis and the Levi
Strauss & Company and the " blue jean was born."
The iconic "blue jeans" were originally called "XX." In 1886, Levi had a two horse logo branded

Teenage Subcultures
Due to the war ending in 1945, all families were able to settle down and have children. This led to
the baby boom of 1945–1960s where there was an abundance of youths in the 1950s. In the 50s
there were almost 100 babies born a minute putting a threat to over population (Howell.G, 1975).
From this, the teenager was invented (Kotarba J A, 2012) where many different subcultures had
formed, each with individual styles and influenced by figures in film, music and TV. Glossy fashion
magazines such as Vogue and Seventeen were also becoming very popular so youths were able to
easily see what the future held for trends and what clothes they should and shouldn't be wearing.
Teenage girls and boys were now recognised as a new consumer and when designers started to
realise this they set up boutiques inside department stores (Buxbaum.G, 1999). They sold simpler
designs at cheaper prices where the younger generation were able to create their own style rather
than copying their parents, for example ranges of clothes would come out specifically targeted at
young girls for dances where they would have a large choice in dresses to buy. British teenagers had
twice as much money to spend on what they liked compared to their parents (Breward.C, 1999).
This meant that a new market opened up for retailers with a great economic dependence on this
particular age group. One of these subcultures that had formed was called the Teddy Boys and Girls
which originated in Mayfair, London before moving

Sustainable Development : Levi Strauss & Co, The...
About
Sustainable use of resources means using the current resources without compromising with the
demands of our future generations. The sources of energy are in a limit quantity specially the non–

sources of energy so that our future generations can also take the advantages of this priceless gift
from nature.
Sustainable development refers to the development that meets the needs of the present without

Two years later, in 1985 they started to market their own products. After the economic crisis, they
were producing 1 million 200 thousand units per year before the April 5th Economic Resolutions,
which were declared in 1994. After the collapse of East Block, the workshop in Avcılar has been
largely transformed. In 1994, they were selling 100 thousand products per month while they started
to sell 700 thousand products per month in 1996. When a crisis outbroke in Asia in 1998 and then in
Russia, Eroğlu started to investigate further opportunity for overcoming the crisis. Nurettin Eroğlu
explains this process as follows: "We went to Russia in 1996. Our operations were always
improving. In 1998, when the crisis started in Russia, the ruble suddenly lost tremendous value, one
to four times. At that time 7–8 million of our products were in Russia. We reduced the prices. On the
other hand, we were in search of contract manufacturing. At that time, we knew that Mr. Esat Sivri
has established significant collaborations there. Hence, the opportunity to cooperate emerged. We
received an order from famous GAP company. We produced gabardine pants. Then we started to
receive orders directly, as it always proceeds this way. We started to work with Calvin Klein. We
started to work with other brands as well. Today it constitutes still a prominent part of our

An Advertisement Of The American Comedy Drama Television...
This paper explores an advertisement found in March 2015 edition of Nylon Guys magazine (page
13), for denim apparel falling under the Buffalo David Bitton (BDB) brand. In the advertisement,
Adrian Grenier, a celebrity best known for his lead role in the TV series Entourage, endorses BDB's
denim apparel, wearing their jeans and a denim jacket. BDB was founded in 1985 in Montreal and
today it is an industry leader offering denim clothing in 18 countries and spanning 3000 locations
throughout the world. In North America the brand can be found in many department stores,
including the Hudson's bay company, Bloomingdales and Macy's. The brand appeals to fashion
savvy men and women aged 18 – 34 who are innovators seeking effortless style as well as
substance. Given this orientation, Grenier is an ideal celebrity for an advertising endorsement. The
American comedy–drama television series Entourage, which concluded in 2011 after eight seasons,
chronicles Grenier as Vincent Chase as he ventures into Los Angeles California as an enviable
celebrity along with some of his childhood friends. The role Grenier plays is quite fitting as he
exudes laid back confidence as a ladies man and the clear leader of his friend group. Interestingly,
not only is Grenier a celebrity for playing Vincent Chase, but the character Vincent Chase within the
show is a celebrity looking for movie roles. Grenier thereby owns two separate layers of celebrity
image by virtue of one character. In the black

Process Essay
It is the week before a high school dance and, as a boy, you have no idea what to do. You want to
look your best. in order to make a great first impression on your friends and to the ladies. In order to
look "frosh," you have to plan ahead of time and make sure that you are already looking your best.
What you wear to the dance and how you act determines your total outlook and how you want to be
perceived as. It is critical that you know where to shop for clothes.
First, is to go to the Westfield Valley Fair mall one week in advance. Find something that is
appropriate and modest, but avoid buying clothes that you would normally wear to school or on the
weekends. One store that sells quality clothes for a fairly decent price is American Eagle. ... Show

Ask your parents or a friend's parent to drive you 15 minutes before the event starts, depending how
far you live from the school. When entering into the venue, be sure to find any classmates you know
and join them. Try not to stick to one group of friends. Instead, make conversations with people you
usually don't talk to. Be proactive, and try not to limit yourself to one activity. Don't be the person
who stands near the food tables, but be that person who stands up and dances. There's no need to be
a great dancer, but just groove to the music. However, don't do it excessively. No freak or
inappropriate dancing while on the dance floor. Most school dances have some slow dances, where
you have your hands around a girl's waist. Just try to sway back and forth and make conversation
with the girl. As important as any other step, you need to be confident in yourself. Don't psyche
yourself out. Feeling apprehensive can give off a bad vibe to everyone else around you. Be yourself
and not the person that you think you should be. Through all this, make the most of the dance, as it
should be a night to

Modern Day Antigone Analysis

Modern Day Antigone Modern Antigone
In the classic Antigone, written by Sophocles', readers are drawn in because of Antigone's inspiring
moral control and courageous attitude. In Sophocles' version we are given Antigone, a strong, level–
headed woman who stands firm for her values; considering morality and ethics above all else.
Antigone's impact on society has not gone unnoticed, and has lead to numerous rewrites and
adaptations, including one by Jean Anouilh from the 1940's when the Nazis occupied France.
Antigone has been a prominent figure when it comes to standing up for what you believe in for
centuries, from ancient greek to modern America. Nowadays it's hard to find someone with that
same willpower, drive and courage presented by Antigone. However it's not impossible; Meet
Malala Yousafzai.
Malala is a twenty year old women's education activist originally from Pakistan. She has been
fighting for female education ever since 2007 when local Taliban groups banned women from
attending school. She began under the pen name "Gul Makai" to mask her identity, writing blog
posts for BBC about what life was like under Taliban rule. Malala continues to protest traditional
Pashtun code of conduct for women; an unwritten ethical law, which in theory isn't problematic.
Pashtun code of conduct speaks mainly of protecting one another, your land, protecting those in
refuge and loving thy God. However, the Taliban has more radical approaches; thus

The Pursuit Of Possession Marketed By Popular Brands Essay
We communicate who we are through fashion. Fashion is poetic through textures, color, design, and
expression which signifies how connected we are to our clothes. Consumers rely on fashions "status
quo" to appeal to their need to buy the best from the best retail markets, yet still have an
unawareness of a "don't ask, don't tell "oblivion towards production of these expensive marvels. The
target of the pursuit of possession marketed by popular brands will make people focus more on
materialistic value instead of the reinvention of the fashion market in how our clothes are really
made. That pair of jeans you saw in a Black Friday sale advertisement, or a crew neck long sleeve
shirt on sale at H & M caught your eye because to you, its worth the bargain, but to the person who
made this item for you, it wasn't worth their demise. The ill–informed consumers of the fashion
industry are unknowingly supportive to the abusive labor practices of exploited sweatshop workers
on the production of our clothing while glorifying expensive brands made from the hands of
penniless workers. The focus of this paper is to be the voice of those workers, who make these
pleasantries with literally their own blood, sweat, and tears that us consumers take for granted, while
shedding some much needed light on the nefarious acts on sweatshop workers.
In the most labor dependent industry on earth, workers have no voice. The supply chain is
constantly on the rise, globalization of production is outsourced

My Family Relationship
Once a close friendship is built with someone, eventually, a relationship with their mothers has to be
established; whether it is a close or just a comfortable relationship. We all have felt or acted a certain
way toward our friends' mothers. The friendships I have established with some of my friend's moms
are handled at different extremities, ranging from "nice weather we're having" to the coffee talks.
Each has a different personality that allows us to classify them into certain groups; some are cool
like the one you are unusually close to. There are also those mothers in which you try to limit
conversation like the one that thinks she is cool and the one that barely partakes in verbal
interactions, the strict mom. The mother you are unusually close to could have heart–to–hearts with
you even when your friend is not present for a long period of time. You could easily talk about
politics, your lifestyle, etc. If she were the same age as you, it is likely the two of you would be
close friends who hang out all the time. She welcomes you into the family and her home always.
The way she dresses is classy chic; she wears black heels from Louis Vuitton, skinny faux leather
pants, and a red flowy shirt. My friend's mom never failed to welcome me excitingly at the door,
especially when we haven't seen each other in a while. Needless to say, I was very excited to go to
her house mainly because I wanted to see her mom. It was an unusual "friendship" her mother and I
had.

Medea And Antigone Character Analysis

 • 1. Medea And Antigone Character Analysis Both of the plays Medea and Antigone have tragic themes and their main characters are women who find themselves unhappy and so decide to act on behalf of these feelings. In both cases the result is a climax at the end of the play in the form of several deaths. One of the main reasons they decide to act is because they find it difficult to cope with competition of other women. Both Jean Anouilh in his play Antigone and Euripides in his play Medea have based their tragic plots on the roles of jealousy and spite and the extremes they can make a person go to. In my analysis I will first look at the effects competition has on both Medea and Antigone, in particular jealousy. After this, I will discus the aspirations both women have as a result of feeling jealous and how other characters in the play see them. Finally I will look at how the two characters act on impulse of their jealousy and compare what it leads to in each play. When talking about the character's jealousy it is important to first determine who is the cause of these feelings. In both cases, we could say it is other, in the characters opinion 'rival', women. In Antigone's case, the jealousy is aimed mainly at her "radiant" and "beautiful" sister Ismene. Ismene is not only the more beautiful of the two sisters, but she is also more favoured and admired by the others. "Ismene surrounded by a group of young men..." Here we can see Ismene gets most attention. She is admired by young men and enjoys her life. Antigone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 3. Blue Jeans, the Ultimate American Icon Essay examples Blue Jeans, the Ultimate American Icon Gold was discovered in California in 1849. This resulted in more than eighty thousand American's rushing to California. The pioneering spirit spread and by 1890, the West's population reached nearly 17 million. The west became the most racially diverse part of the country. All were in search of a better life for themselves and their families, seeking what would become known as the American Dream. During this time innovation and creation were prompting remarkable growth in industry. New products that made life more tolerable were spreading to all classes of people. One popular item of clothing that can trace its roots to the Gold Rush is blue jeans. Blue jeans grew out of necessity but they now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When film spread across the country in the early 1900's so did romanticized pictures of the west. Western films portrayed the conquest of the frontier in the name of civilization. In these films, the plot was almost always about good versus bad. The films usually showed the cowboy riding into a lawless town and restoring order. Typical elements of western films included breathtaking settings and open landscapes. In all the western films, the cowboys wore the same wardrobe, blue jeans and boots. Americans living in the East became enamored with the West. Easterners began traveling west to places like dude ranches to experience the spirit of the Wild West. Of course, the experience was not complete with out the costume. Thus, blue jeans were purchased for the first time by non– westerners. Blue jeans were no longer just for the hard working miners. People from the East bought them for trips to the West. They brought them back East with them. In the East, blue jeans were not worn often by all. Schoolchildren, boys in particular were often the only ones wearing them. Parents, especially those of limited means, bought jeans for their children because of their durability. During the 1930's blue jeans were found all throughout schools. Children grew up wearing blue jeans. Jeans had become a common article of clothing for a new generation. Blue jeans sales rose at a steady pace after the Great Depression. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 5. An Analysis of Two Key Passages in Antigone An Analysis of Two Key Passages in Antigone During the Nazi occupation of France, Jean Anouilh produced an adaptation of Sophocles' tragedy, Antigone, as a representation of the struggle between those collaborating with the occupants and those resisting them. While it is possible to read Anouilh's Antigone as a 'texte de la Resistance', it can also be interpreted as an apologia for the Nazis' severe, authoritarian behavior. The two key passages selected are crucial to the development of the play in that they highlight the clash between ideologies. While Antigone's speech offers an insight into her idealistic world view, Creon's dialogue exposes his pragmatic approach to life. This conflict of thought and action epitomizes the conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The harshness of Antigone's outlook is emphasised by Anouilh yet again when he has her say that Oedipus only became beautiful "when all hope was gone, stamped out like a beetle"[Passage A, line 26]. The violent nature of this simile reinforces Antigone's strong belief in the value self– renunciation. Simultaneously, it emphasizes that the majority of ordinary citizens blindly follow the dictates of Creon's government and his pedestrian mode of thought, aiming for nothing more than the contentment of getting on with their lives. Repellent natural imagery is further utilized to distinguish Antigone's higher aims from those of Creon and all those who are attached to life at any cost: "You [Creon] are all like dogs that lick everything they smell"[Passage A, line 7]. This degrades Creon and his followers–or fellow Collaborators–to mere animals in that they live by their animalistic impulses, most of all the will to live, rather than upon any higher aim. This implies that pragmatism requires minimal thought or emotional effort, while idealism on the other hand, demands a powerful self–control that can sublimate the animal will to live, and requires an advanced intellectual and emotional level. It demands the renunciation of the saint, but as an existentialist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 7. Essay on The Cultural Invasion of Kenya The Cultural Invasion of Kenya A screeching yell ripped through the house that Wednesday evening, "Ahhhhh, we're being invaded!". My mother rushed into the living room. I pointed to the flickering television screen. "Look," I whispered in disbelief. A few seconds of silence followed. There they were, the words I never thought would appear on our 29 inch Sony screen: "Sizzlin' Hot Country". The appearance of American country music on the Kenyan airwaves was the latest sign that American culture had penetrated the borders of my country. The airing of Garth Brooks and Dolly Parton on the local television station is not the only evidence of the rapid spread of American culture in Kenya. One look at a large portion of its youth and ... Sagging soon caught on with many students and yet again, I admit, with me. Sagging probably had its origins in the popular American hip hop that appears on many local channels. While walking around in school, I would find students mimicking the popular '2 Pac' and 'Dr. Dre', with a "Wesssaaid" sounding in the air occasionally. A friend was also nicknamed Krayzie Bone, after a member of the Bone Thugs– N– Harmony group. Baggy jeans that could have fit two people at a time were also the order of the day at many parties and get–togethers. Donning DKNY, Karlkani, CK and Adidas attire made one hip. Jeans had become such a popular article that during our school's annual Cultural Day, the only day when one could or would show off one's cultural attire, they were banned. School dances and parties rarely featured traditional songs. Instead, American icons like Aaliyah, Dr Dre and Britney Spears dominated the playlists. Roaming the grounds of my secondary school, I would find a girl singing out "What a girl wants, what a girl..." in a desperate attempt to mimic pop idol Christina Aguilera. In a matter of time, Strauss was working so hard for everyone to get at least one pair. Soon he edited his pants once again and started to use blue denim (Which are pronounced 'Genes' in French but in English it is 'Jeans') for his pants. Then soon in 1872, Jacob Davis, a Nevada Tailor, sent a letter. He requested something that he couldn't do. Adding rivets or what we know, pockets. • 15. Similarities Between Antigone And Jean Anouilh Essay #2 Option 1 11/27/17 Sophocles and Jean Anouilh use simplistic storytelling in order to discuss the events and societal norms of the times when they were writing Antigone. When the tales are stripped down to their key stories, they both are about a defiant girl who goes against her uncle in order to do what she believes is morally right. In regard to the definition of tragedy, Sophocles follows the Greek standard of tragedy. By making Creon the tragic hero who is plagued by his own ego and unchanging ways when it comes to power. Anouilh puts a twist on the Greek tragedy by putting the focus on Antigone and not having the typical tragic hero who is unattached from the audience. Instead, Antigone is a heroine with everyday imperfections and emotions which seek to inspire people to condemn the French's relationship with Nazi Germany during the Second World War. Sophocles makes Creon the tragic hero. He can be seen as the traditional Greek tragic hero since he falls from a noble position of power and loses those closest to him. He is egocentric and ends up being defeated by his rigid sense of pride. He believes his authority is absolute and should therefore never be disobeyed. This is shown when he says, "But when the city takes a leader, you must obey" (Sophocles 666). With this, he expects full allegiance from his family, especially from his own son. His attitude exemplifies that he is filled with hubris. In terms of Greek tragedy, hubris is a cockiness that offends ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This essay aims to highlight how a group of people have a certain persona that can be so 'large' that it will influence the way they dress and their beliefs and lifestyle. This analysed over decades. In each paragraph I am going to highlight how a specific group or event that occurred in the particular decade influenced the fashion in America. My conclusion will basically prove my thesis. Fashion in the 1970's The 1970s was the decade of the mods and the hippies. Men and women were wearing tight pants and bell bottoms were also huge in the 70's. At times it was difficult to make a clear distinction of what was seen appropriate for home and what was seen appropriate for a night out. Women were seen pairing low cut pants with high cut boots, "....this was probably also the first full decade in which women could be seen wearing pants in every walk of life." retro waste. • 21. Stereotypical Judgement Essay Who are you? Who am I? We are different, but we get judged, every day, every hour, every minute people judge you, on your appearance, on your style, on your attributes. Yet they don't even know you. It is proven that in the first few moments of meeting someone, we form an opinion of them. Our society's biggest downfall is that we define people on stereotypical judgements. One of the clearest examples in today's society is Donald Trump. He claims to ban all Muslims to enter the USA. That is a stereotypical judgment that he has towards Muslims. He believes all Muslims are terrorist, as per CNN report Islam is the fastest growing religion in the US; and according to their report, in the USA some top Doctors and Engineers believe in Islam. So where does he get his claims from? Why does he create these stereotypical judgements against them? Why can't he work along with them so that we can live in a better world? We judge people by their race, we judge people by where they come from, we judge people by the way they speak. Today, we say all Muslims are terrorist, well if that was the case, wouldn't all Christians be in the KKK, if this was true we would probably be dead. There are about 2 billion Muslims in the world, that's about 29% of the world's population; if they all were terrorists the odds of our survival are slim. We judge a race on the acts of a few, what if not every Muslim we saw was planning to kill us, what if they are everyday people like you and me. We have put ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

True Religion Jeans Case Analysis Matt Costello 10/20/17 Professor Celo True Religion Jeans Case The ups and downs of the premium jeans industry and the constant fluctuating of threats to the industry made it interesting to see how the denim lines would respond. They were originated in the 1970s by Calvin Klein who created highly priced, skin tight jeans who used celebrities (i.e. Brooke Shields) to endorse the product. Since they were higher priced compared to your common, regular blue jeans sold by mainstream brands like Lee and Wrangler, they were meant to serve as fashion statements as opposed to comfort. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As we discussed in class, a threat of substitute does not necessarily just mean other high end, premium, higher priced jeans. Substitutes could include any types of jeans. There are skinny jeans that are mentioned throughout the case, as well as slim cut jeans, straight cut jeans, low/medium/high rise jeans, etc. Any type of jean poses as a threat to premium denim jeans because consumers fashion senses are constantly changing. As of late, more people have shifted towards the casual, relaxed fit jean type of lifestyle, as opposed to before the down economy started in 2008 where many were trending more towards the "fashion forward" or the "aspirational shopper" as the case described. The aspirational shopper consists of a middle class person ($75,000–150,000 income per year) who is willing to buy luxurious, high–end jeans. So the overall point here is that all jean types are a threat of substitutes. Another layer of substitutes could really be any type of pants in general. People love wearing sweat pants around the house, females tend to wear a lot of dresses and skirts nowadays, leather pants are somewhat of a trend, and everybody wears shorts at some point in the year. So these are threats of substitutes as well. Lastly, any other high–end products people could choose to spend money on pose as threats as well. This also means it's time to pull out all those colourful woollies that have been languishing in the cupboard, and maybe buy some new ones to stay in sync with the season's trends. Gone are the days when the over–sized woolens came in monotonous and boring winter shades. Now, you can splurge on colours and watch your child radiate the brightness. Red is big for girls and boys, and the metallics that lit up the runways in the fall are also gracing kids' winter lines. When choosing woolens for your child, practicality is of utmost importance. But don't overlook the fashion angle. Kids, these days, are extremely conscious about what they wear. Here are a few winter must–haves for your child. 1. Depending on where you are stationed, you can opt for a quilt lined jacket, a football jacket, a classic denim one or the contemporary ones that look more like coats. Cotton, Light and medium poly fill jackets are in fashion these days, with sweat jackets ruling the fashion scene. Jackets, not only provide ample warmth, but when zipped right up, take care of the entire upper torso without you having to worry much. Little girls can add a few frills and flowers to their jackets without thinking twice. And if it's not too cold, they can even go for chic shrugs. Tip: Here's a word ... • 33. Similarities Between 70 And 70 The 70's v. 2017 Life in the 70's was very different than it is today. When you compare the 1970s to 2017 you can see the huge differences, and maybe some similarities. A lot has changed since the 70's, including the style, lifestyle, pop culture, and more. Since the 70's a lot has changed, we have changed in some ways and are similar in more ways than one. Here are the differences and similarities between the 70's and today, 2017. In the 70's the first president of the decade was Richard Nixon, he was the 37th president and was in office 1969–1974. Eventually Gerald Ford held office after Nixon resigned to avoid the eventual outcome of Watergate, which would have led to impeachment. Jimmy Carter then served as president in years 1977–1981, with Walter Mondale as vice president. Today in 2017 we have Donald Trump and Mike Pence, and people are begging for Trump to be impeached, similar to Nixon. Though people do see impeachment in Trump's future, but some do not. Another difference since the 70's is the inflation of the dollar. A dollar in 1970 is worth $6.30 today, which is a 530.0% increase. A dollar in 1979 is worth $3.37, which is a 237% increase. When comparing the 70's to today it is always best to compare the cost of living. In 1970 minimum wage was $1.60, today in New Mexico minimum wage is now $9.25. A year of tuition at a public college was about $1,200 in the 70's, according to the college board, the average student payed about $9,650 for tuition. In January of ... The rocks made it hard to first learn how to bike and scooter, and roller blade, I could never balance, because all the rocks were different. I live in Westport Connecticut, some people in Connecticut imagine westport a place full of beautiful and perfect and rich people. That word "rich" bothered me. • 49. Comparing Sophocles' Antigone and Jean Anouilh's Antigone... Both Sophocles and Jean Anouilh use the simple story–line of a girl defying her uncle and king in the face of death to reflect upon the events and attitudes of their days. Sophocles' Antigone models the classical pattern of tragedy by incorporating key elements such as a tragic hero with a fatal flaw and the Man–God–Society triangle. Creon is the tragic hero who disturbs the natural harmony of Thebes by denying Polyneices a funeral. Antigone is the catalyst who forces him to reckon with the consequences of his pride and arrogance. In the twentieth century, Jean Anouilh takes Sophocles' drama, strips it down to its core, and weaves an entirely different version of the story. Anouilh redefines "tragedy" by removing the conventional tragic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Sophocles 220). Creon closes his mind even to the wise and aged Teiresias despite being counseled, ?a good man yields when he knows his course is wrong? (Sophocles 232). Thus, Sophocles? Creon is the archetypal Greek tragic hero, setting the stage for the ensuing drama. Antigone, on the other hand, is the maverick who dares to defy Creon, initiating the spiral of events that cause both his downfall and realization of his misdeeds. Antigone rejects Creon?s authority in favor of the higher Divine law, telling her sister Ismene, ?I will bury him; and if I must die, I say that this crime is holy: I shall lie down with him in death? (Sophocles 192). When questioned by Creon as to why she breaks the law, she asserts, ?It was not God?s proclamation. That final Justice that rules the world below makes no such laws? (Sophocles 208). Antigone is unafraid of her punishment claiming, ?this death of mine is of no importance; but if I had left my brother lying in death unburied, I should have suffered? (Sophocles 208). She remains steadfast in her beliefs, never compromising her principles to escape her uncle?s wrath. In her final address to the people, she proclaims, ?you will remember what things I suffer, and at what men?s hands, because I would not transgress the laws of heaven? (Sophocles 228). These opposites essentially represent not only the tendency of this world to possess conflicting images, but also an individual's tendency to have conflicting emotions as well as the struggles between individuals. Antigone and Wings of Desire are two exceptional works of art, that although seem vastly diverse in terms of setting, form and style are however, in my opinion, linked through their portrayal of the struggles experienced by individuals as well as the demonstration of conflicting images and forces. Antigone is a play that was first written by Sophocles in 442 BC and later adapted and rewritten by Jean Anouilh. The story follows the epic tragic heroine Antigone and her downfall through her opposition against the King Creon. Wings of Desire, directed by Wim Wenders is a 1987 Franco– German film. It revolves around two angels, one of who is named Damiel who falls in love with a human. He wishes to renounce his immortality for a chance to be with the woman he loves and to experience human emotions and sensations. Unlike most Greek tragedies, Antigone is not essentially about the opposing powers of good and evil. Instead, the play demonstrates the conflict between one's duty towards their family and their country and social expectations. "Antigone presents a conflict between family loyalty and loyalty to the state, between demands of the state and the will of the individual" (MacKay, 166). The king ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 55. Victims of Society in The Outsider and Antigone Essay Victims of Society in The Outsider and Antigone Both Meursault and Antigone are the protagonists in their stories. They have much in common, such as the fact that they explain their impending deaths as decided by fate, even though each seems to have an easy way of surviving. Both are willing to die for what they believe is right. The concept of fate is quite different between the texts. In Antigone, a Chorus tells you at the beginning of the play that Antigone will die. Antigone uses the excuse of fate to explain her own death to Creon, where as in The Outsider fate is much more subtle. First I will look at The Outsider and Meursault. On the bus journey to his mother's old people's home he says only 'yes' to a soldier that asks him a question because he does not want to talk. This is an example of the short sentences he uses as dialogue and as narrator throughout the book. When he gets to the home, he does not cry or act sad, showing us that he is quite emotionless. He points out to the caretaker that he is just another inmate, with a little extra authority due to his position. Meursault does not recognise the caretaker's authority as anything special, which is why he does not see the caretaker's point, Meursault feels the same way about the judiciary in part 2. Camus makes the caretaker look stupid because he does not see the truth that he is just an inmate with extra work. He may be making a statement here about the way we try to make ourselves better by creating titles and roles. Authority is linked to fate in that they are abstract concepts and both can be considered opposites to freedom. During the first part of the novel, Meursault gets a girlfriend named Marie. Meursault does not care whether they marry or not, much like Antigone with Heamon. It could be said that Meursault agrees to marry Marie for the same reason that Antigone agrees to marry Heamon, because they both know they are going to die. This is evidence of ... His two older brothers owned a dry goods business called "J. Strauss Brother & Co" located in New York City. After becoming more familiar with the trade and how the business worked, he traveled to California after word got out about the gold rush in 1853. Levi wanted to keep up with the demand, so where there were people looking for their fortune through gold, he was there making pants for them and the people who worked in tougher conditions. Levi received a letter around 1872 from a loyal customer of his. Jacob Davis was a tailor from Reno, Nevada loved his design of pants and continued to buy from Levi because of the pant's quality. • 63. Teenage Subcultures Due to the war ending in 1945, all families were able to settle down and have children. This led to the baby boom of 1945–1960s where there was an abundance of youths in the 1950s. In the 50s there were almost 100 babies born a minute putting a threat to over population (Howell.G, 1975). From this, the teenager was invented (Kotarba J A, 2012) where many different subcultures had formed, each with individual styles and influenced by figures in film, music and TV. Glossy fashion magazines such as Vogue and Seventeen were also becoming very popular so youths were able to easily see what the future held for trends and what clothes they should and shouldn't be wearing. Teenage girls and boys were now recognised as a new consumer and when designers started to realise this they set up boutiques inside department stores (Buxbaum.G, 1999). They sold simpler designs at cheaper prices where the younger generation were able to create their own style rather than copying their parents, for example ranges of clothes would come out specifically targeted at young girls for dances where they would have a large choice in dresses to buy. British teenagers had twice as much money to spend on what they liked compared to their parents (Breward.C, 1999). This meant that a new market opened up for retailers with a great economic dependence on this particular age group. One of these subcultures that had formed was called the Teddy Boys and Girls which originated in Mayfair, London before moving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The American comedy–drama television series Entourage, which concluded in 2011 after eight seasons, chronicles Grenier as Vincent Chase as he ventures into Los Angeles California as an enviable celebrity along with some of his childhood friends. She has been fighting for female education ever since 2007 when local Taliban groups banned women from attending school. • 77. The Pursuit Of Possession Marketed By Popular Brands Essay We communicate who we are through fashion. Fashion is poetic through textures, color, design, and expression which signifies how connected we are to our clothes. Consumers rely on fashions "status quo" to appeal to their need to buy the best from the best retail markets, yet still have an unawareness of a "don't ask, don't tell "oblivion towards production of these expensive marvels. Each has a different personality that allows us to classify them into certain groups; some are cool like the one you are unusually close to. There are also those mothers in which you try to limit conversation like the one that thinks she is cool and the one that barely partakes in verbal interactions, the strict mom. The mother you are unusually close to could have heart–to–hearts with you even when your friend is not present for a long period of time. You could easily talk about politics, your lifestyle, etc. If she were the same age as you, it is likely the two of you would be close friends who hang out all the time. She welcomes you into the family and her home always. The way she dresses is classy chic; she wears black heels from Louis Vuitton, skinny faux leather pants, and a red flowy shirt. My friend's mom never failed to welcome me excitingly at the door, especially when we haven't seen each other in a while. Needless to say, I was very excited to go to her house mainly because I wanted to see her mom. It was an unusual "friendship" her mother and I had. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
