3. PNG’s Climate Change & Development Authority
CCDA’s Climate Change (Management) Act 2015 Objectives
•PNG’s Designated National Authority (DNA)
•Promotes and manages climate compatible development through CC
mitigation and adaptation activities .
•Implement any relevant obligations of the state under applicable rules of
international law & international agreements related to CC.
CCDA’s Core Activities
•Responsible for compiling the National Emission Inventory, will collaborate
in the development of Strategies, plans, programs, instruments & actions
related to SD, the environment & CC and will help in the evaluation of
Mitigation & Adaptation Policies including REDD+
•Responsible for CC & Green Growth Trust Fund which will channel public,
private, national and international funding projects
•Implement all CC Regulations in country by/in-line CC (Management) Act

4. Forest and REDD+ in PNG
• PNG together with Costa Rica introduced the concept of REDD+ at COP
11 at Montreal in 2011.
• Establishment of National Forest Monitoring System is one of the key
elements of REDD+.
• PNG needs to improve understanding of its forest and monitoring
capacity for sustainable management and conservation.
