50. A stuffing box is an assembly which is used to prevent leakage
of fluid, such as water or steam between sliding or rotating
parts of machine elements, specifically a rotating or
reciprocating shaft.
A stuffing box assembly satisfies two requirements,
Prevent any leakage of steam out of the cylinder
Allowing free movement of shaft
Stuffing box is used:
Propeller of a ship
Large centrifugal pumps

55. Screw Jack is a portable device consisting of a screw mechanism
used to raise or lower the load. They can be used to push, pull,
tension, lock, unlock, tilt, pivot, roll, slide and lift or lower loads.
Advantages: The load is generally self locking. This means the
motion can’t be back-driven by the weight of the load.
