The Army Education Center is hosting an open house on May 21st from 9am to 2pm to provide information on education benefits and meet with college representatives. Two financial aid information sessions will be held during the event. Various facilities and services on the joint base will have modified hours for the Memorial Day weekend from May 23rd to 26th.

New – Army Education Center 'Open House' May 21
The Army Education Center, Building 417 on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base,
is hosting an education open house Wednesday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., for
service and family members and federal employees. The open house will provide an
opportunity for community members to check out the facility, get information on
education benefits like the Tuition Assistance program and GI Bill, meet with our on-
base college representatives (Park University, Northern Virginia Community College,
University of Maryland University College, Old Dominion University and Central
Michigan University) and enjoy a free lunch and other refreshments. Everyone's invited
to come walk though and see what we have to offer.
One of the most important aspects of education planning is how to pay for it, and
there will be two financial aid information sessions during the day: one from 10 to 11
a.m. and one from 1 to 2 p.m. Seats are limited, so an RSVP is required. Contact Tim

sessions cover resources from the Department of Education, hands-on application

3. New – Memorial Day vigil at Canadian Embassy
Marking more than 12 years of service in Afghanistan, the Embassy of Canada is
honored to host Canada's Afghanistan Memorial Vigil over the 2014 Memorial Day
weekend.
The Afghanistan Memorial consists of the original commemorative plaques from
the Canadian monument at Kandahar Airfield. The series of plaques is dedicated to the
161 Canadians and more than 40 U.S. Armed Forces members who paid the ultimate
price in the service of peace and security while under Canadian command.
Public viewing of the Memorial in the Embassy's courtyard is available from
Friday, May 23, to Monday, May 26. Attendants will be on site from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m. daily to answer questions.

A free networking fair for military spouses will take place May 28 from 7 to 9

New – MWR Customer Satisfaction Survey
The Department of Defense is set to release its latest survey to gauge customer
satisfaction with Morale, Welfare and Recreation garrison facilities and programs.
DoD will focus this survey on select types of facilities and so management,
training and financial resources can be maximized in the current fiscal environment.
This year's questionnaire focuses on fitness, libraries, outdoor recreation,
recreation centers, auto service centers, single service member programs, leisure travel,
swimming pools, sports and athletics.
Participation in the survey is confidential to encourage honest and full
participation from Soldiers and Family members who are patrons of Family and MWR
services around the world.

The first JBM-HH Army Ten-Miler 10K qualifier will be held Friday, June 6, with
the run beginning at 6:35 a.m. from the Fort Myer Fitness Center. The team has 40 slots

selected to be a part of the JBM-HH ATM team, Family and Morale, Welfare and
Recreation will pay your entry fee for the race.

Firecracker 5K Twinkie Challenge July3
The next run in the JBM-HH Commanders Race series is scheduled for Thursday,
July 3 at the Fort Myer Officers Club at 6:35 a.m. This race will be a 5K, but will also
incorporate an eating challenge of six Twinkies at the half-way mark.
Awards will be presented to the top male and female finishers (runners will eat
six Twinkies at the 2.5K mark). There will also be prizes for the craziest individual
costume, craziest couples costume and craziest group (three or more) costume.

Zembiec Pool temporarily closed for summer transition
The Maj. Douglas A. Zembiec Pool will be closed through May 25 for seasonal

5. Marine Barracks Washington hosts Evening Parades
The Evening Parades are conducted on Fridays only through Aug. 29. There
will not be a Friday Evening Parade July 4.
The one hour and fifteen minute performance of music and precision marching,
the Evening Parade features "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, "The
Commandant's Own" The United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, the Marine
Corps Color Guard, the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon, Ceremonial Marchers, and

Presidential Salute Battery drills being conducted
The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) Presidential Salute Battery will

The new Community Counseling Program is designed to provide increased

Anger Management workshops offered
Marine & Family Programs offers anger management workshops weekly,
Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshops are designed to teach eight tools for

Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress
on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies

room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying
stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing
yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan.

New – Possible traffic delays May 21
The Iwo Jima 7K Race is scheduled for May 21 at 6:30 a.m. The race route will
begin at the Cpl. Terry L. Smith Gymnasium on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint
base and head down through Wright Gate to the Marine Corps War Memorial and
back.

The Summerall Field parking lot on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base will
be closed May 27 at 9 p.m. until May 28 in support of the Motorcycle Safety Day event.

McNair Road from the intersection of Lee Avenue to Marshall Drive on the Fort
Myer portion of the joint base is closed, to include pedestrian and bicyclists, until
further notice due to road damage.

Parking lot on Fort McNair closed June 12
The D Street parking lot on the Fort McNair portion of the joint base will be
closed June 12 in support of a graduation ceremony taking place that day. The parking
