NEW – Directorate of Emergency Services to conduct Barrier Training
Tuesday
The Directorate of Emergency Services will be conducting barrier training at the
JBM-HH gates tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. See below for the schedule:
-Henderson Hall Annex Gate – 8 a.m.
-Henderson Hall Main Gate – 9 a.m.

2. -Fort Myer Wright Gate – 10 a.m.
-Fort McNair 2nd St. Gate - 11 a.m.
No traffic will be impacted. During training at the Wright Gate at 10 a.m. residents and

Twilight Tattoo performances run through August
Twilight Tattoo is an hour-long military pageant featuring Soldiers from the 3rd U.S.
Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own."
Experience a glimpse into American history through performances by The U.S. Army
Blues, vocalists from The U.S. Army Band Downrange, The Old Guard Fife and Drum
Corps, and The U.S. Army Drill Team.
This performance is free and open to the public. Due to budget constraints
unfortunately we will not have bleachers for Twilight Tattoo this year. Grass seating is
available, and we recommend you bring a blanket or lawn chairs. For more information

Performances through June 26 will be located at Summerall Field on the Fort Myer
portion of the joint base. Performances from July 10 through Aug. 28 will be located at
Whipple Field on Joint Base Myer-Henderson. Field locations may vary, please check

Sunday Brunch at Spates Community Club
Spates Community Club is now hosting Sunday Brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
every Sunday. Prices are $13.95 for adults, $11.95 for kids 6-12 and kids 5 and under eat
free. Menu items include Omelet Station, Waffle Bar, Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Sausage,
Biscuits and Gravy, Home Fried Potatoes, Beef Carving Station, Sliced Ham, Salmon,
Desert Station, Fresh Fruit, Salad Bar, Danish, Croissants and Muffins.

Emergency repairs to be made to Officers’ Club 50-yard pool
The 50-yard Swimming Pool at the Fort Myer Officers Club is closed for emergency
repairs through June 8. This closing will allow the replacement of the pool wall and the
reset of tiling around the 50-yard pool. During this time the 25-meter, Figure 8 and

3. wading pools will be operational daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. For additional

ACAP Classes available
Soldiers leaving the military have a number of ways to ease their transition and

Sunsets with a Soundtrack | The U.S. Army Concert Band
This first concert of the Sunsets with a Soundtrack series kicks off with The U.S. Army
Concert Band performing A Carmen Fantasy, featuring MSG Andrea Artley on flute,
Donizetti's virtuoso tenor aria “Ah, Mes Amis” sung by U.S. Army Chorus member,
SSG Matthew Smith, and splendor and fanfare that can only be brought by The U.S.
Army Herald Trumpets in full force! This is an hour you won't want to miss!

DECA Online survey
Whether you shop at your local commissary or not, the Defense Commissary Agency
wants to hear from you. From June 1 through Aug. 1, an online survey will be available

Aqua Aerobics to Resume at Zembiec Pool
Aqua aerobics classes will resume at the Maj Douglas A. Zembiec Pool beginning
Tuesday, June 11, not June 4 as previously announced. Deep water aqua aerobics
classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Deep water running classes
meet Wednesdays and Fridays 11 a.m. – noon. An aqua belt (limited supply available at
the pool), water bottle, and swimsuit are needed, and registration is not required. For

Army Substance Abuse Training for Civilians
The training listed below will be held on the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base Myer-

4. Henderson Hall in Building 230 from 1 to 2 p.m. Civilians are required to have two
hours of Army Substance Abuse training which would include Drug Free Workplace
(Substance Abuse Awareness) training and one hour of Suicide Awareness training.
If an employee participated in the Suicide Awareness Stand Down they will have
met the requirement for the year. If an employee did the Workplace Violence on line it
will also meet the yearly requirement. If anyone needs special accommodations or

Youth Sports & Fitness presents Challenger Sports British Soccer
Camp
Youth Sports and Fitness is offering two sessions of British Soccer this summer, June
24-28 and August 19-23, from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 5-16 yrs, 4 to 5:30 p.m. for ages 3-5
yrs. They are also offering one session of British Multi-Sports, July 29 to Aug. 2 from 9
a.m. to noon for ages 5-16 yrs.
The SKIES program is also offering Swimming Lessons this summer. There are 5
sessions:
Session 1 –June 10 to 20
Session 2 – June 24 to July 3
Session 3 – July 8 to 18
Session 4 – July 22 to Aug. 1

Mobile DMV coming back to Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH
The JBM-HH Army Career and Alumni Program will sponsor the Virginia
Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) mobile unit on Monday, June 10 from 9 a.m. to 4
p.m. in the parking lot in front of the Bowling Center and Spates Community Club.
They will provide all or most services provided at a regular DMV office. The mobile
until provides JBM-HH Servicemembers, their Families, DoD civilians and retirees a
different and convenient venue exclusively without having to go to a regular office. For

NEW – Aqua Aerobics Resuming at Zembiec Pool

Welcome Aboard Brief
Marine Corps Community Services offers a Welcome Aboard brief on Tuesday,
June 11, beginning at 8 a.m. in the Marine Club. Newcomers and their families are
highly encouraged to attend to find out valuable information on Headquarters and
Service Battalion, Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, and the National Capital Region. A
$10 lunch coupon for lunch at the club or Java Café is given to each service member,
and a free tour by bus of the local area and Washington D.C. follows. Those attending

Threat Awareness and Reporting Program (TARP) annual training
scheduled
Threat Awareness and Reporting Program (TARP) annual training will be held at the
Town Hall building on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH at 10 a.m. on the following
dates:

July 17 - Wednesday
NOTE: This training is given by the 902nd MI Group Fort Belvoir and is mandatory

NEW – Roll up your sleeves, and give the gift of life – Your blood
needed!
The Armed Services Blood Program, specifically serving men and women of the
armed forces, will be on the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall
Thursday, June 13 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Community Center, Building 405. They
are looking for a few good volunteers to roll up their sleeves and donate blood.
The Armed Service Blood Program directly supplies donations to Walter Reed
National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., Fort Belvoir Community Hospital,
Malcolm Grow Medical Center (Joint Base Andrews, Md.), and Afghanistan.
Keep in mind that donating blood is purely voluntary.

6. NEW – NDU and IADC graduation
National Defense University will hold its graduation ceremony on Thursday, June
13 at 9 a.m. Inter-American Defense College will hold graduation ceremonies on
Thursday, June 20 at 9 a.m. Expect increased traffic and limited parking during this

NEW – Career Resources for Job-seekers
The MCCS Henderson Hall Career Resource Management Center offers assistance
for job-seekers. Upcoming classes include a résumé writing workshop on Thursday,
June 13, 9 – 11 a.m.; a career exploration workshop on Thursday, June 20, 9 – 11 a.m.,
and a workshop entitled “Cracking the Code to the Federal Hiring Process” on
Thursday, June 20, 1 – 3 p.m. The CRMC also offers an information session led by a
representative from the Veterans Administration on service-connected disabilities on

NEW – Mystics Tickets Available for Sale
The MCCS Henderson Hall ITT Office has tickets for the Women’s National
Basketball Association (WNBA) Washington Mystics games. Seats, located in Section
228, Row E, are $13, and tickets are available for the entire season’s home games. For

Patient Education Classes
Adopt a healthy lifestyle -- attend a nutrition education class at Rader Clinic. The
Pre-diabetes class covers information on how to prevent or delay developing diabetes.
The Healthy Heart class covers lifestyle changes to improve high cholesterol and/or
high blood pressure. Upcoming Healthy Heart Class is set for June 13 at 1 pm or June
27 at 8:30 am; or Pre-diabetes Class on June 6 at 1 pm or June 20 at 8:30 am. Classes are
open to all beneficiaries of the military health system, registration is required. Please

Army birthday cake cutting outside JBM-HH Dining Facility; Dining
Facility to open to all DoD ID cardholders June 14
In commemoration of the Army’s birthday JBM-HH will hold a cake cutting
ceremony outside the JBM-HH Dining Facility at 11:15 a.m. on June 14. The JBM/HH
dining facility will then open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to celebrate the 238th
birthday of the United States Army. The meal is open to all (active duty, reserve
component military personnel, retirees, DoD civilians and family members).

UFC 161 at the Marine Club
The Marine Club will show UFC 161 on Saturday, June 15. The club opens at 8
p.m. with food and beverage specials, and the fight starts at 10 p.m. Door prizes will be
drawn during the evening. The Marine Club is open to all ranks, all services, and

NEW – Clydesdale horses to visit JBM-HH
Clydesdale horses will visit JBM-HH on Friday, June 21. At 11 a.m. they will use
Sheridan Ave. as they walk from the Caisson to the Firestone lot. At 1 p.m. they will
walk back to the caisson, again using Sheridan Ave. All motorists are urged not to drive
past the horses during this time.

Semper Fit Intramural Softball
Get your team together and sign up for Semper Fit’s intramural softball league!
Games are played select weekdays 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. starting June 25 on the Joint Base
Myer-Henderson Hall softball field. League play is open to all authorized patrons, and
teams consist of 20 players plus a coach. The season ends in late August. Rosters are

Vacation Bible School
This June 24 through 28 the JBM-HH Chapel will conduct Ecumenical Vacation Bible
School from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Memorial Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Theme
of Kingdom Rock for children ages 3 years - 6th grade. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
May 19 at Memorial Chapel and runs until all 50 slots are filled. Please address any

NEW – Chesty’s 5k Fun Run
The Chesty’s 5K Fun Run opens for registration today. Held Wednesday, June 26,
6:35 a.m., the fun run honors esteemed Marine Corps Lieutenant General Lewis Burwell
"Chesty" Puller, who was born on June 26, 1898. Registration is free, and tee-shirts will
be given to the first 150 registered participants. The top three male and female finishers

8. 2013 JBM-HH Army Ten Miler Qualifiers
Registration is now open for this year’s 2013 JBM-HH Army Ten Miler Team
Qualifiers. This year’s Army Ten Miler will be on Sunday, October 20. FMWR will be
hosting two ATM Qualifiers this summer for Active Duty Military only on Friday, June
28 and Friday, July 26. Each ATM Qualifier will be a 10K Race on Joint Base Myer-
Henderson Hall beginning at 6:35 am at the Myer Fitness Center, building 414. On-line
registration will close on the Wednesday prior to each date. Race Day registration will
be accepted on each date from 5:30 am to 6:15 am inside the Myer Fitness Center, bldg

Gettysburg Trip
The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that
ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Learn

Stroke and Turn Clinic
MCCS Semper Fit Aquatics offers a Stroke and Turn Clinic beginning July 9. The
clinic runs through July 25 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, noon to 1 p.m. Sign up will
open June 11 and close July 9 or when the clinic is filled. Department of Defense
identification card holders may register and pay the $20 fee at the pool. For more

NEW – Golf Tournament
On Sept. 27 Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Family and Morale, Welfare, and
Recreation will host the Inaugural SLICE of Summer Scramble golf tournament. The
tournament will be played on Fort Belvoir's Gunston Golf Course. The tournament
format will be four person teams playing a best ball scramble. Awards will be given
based on the group or teams overall score. There will also be special contests for
Longest Drive, Closest to Pin, Longest Putt, and Hole in One! Each person can register
with a buddy or as team of four. Registration is $70 per person which includes green
fees, cart, range bucket, $8 gift certificate to pro shop and BBQ meal package.

Hearts Apart is a support group for spouses, fiancées, parents, or significant others

designed to be a fun networking opportunity for those experiencing separation from a

A Stress Management (Introductory level presentation for adults) class will be held

NEW – Army Birthday Run to affect traffic
The Department of the Army is celebrating the Army’s Birthday with a motivational
three-mile run Friday, June 14 at 6:45 a.m., beginning from Summerall Field parking lot.
The run will proceed through the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall
and Arlington National Cemetery and return to Summerall Field.
Summerall Field parking lot will be blocked by close of business on June 13.
Regiment and Caisson parking lot will be closed for VIP parking at 9 p.m. on June 13.
Expect traffic delays near Sheridan Avenue, McNair Road and Carpenter Road during
this event, especially at the CDC and the Commissary.
