New – Mobile DMV on Fort Myer portion of joint base June 3
The DMV mobile unit will be on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base June 3
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot across from the bowling center. This service is
available for all DoD ID/CAC holders and appointments are NOT required.
New – Food truck schedule on Fort McNair portion of JBM-HH
A barbeque food truck will be located in the vicinity of the Shoppette June 3
from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Fort McNair portion of the joint base.
A pasta food truck will be located behind Bldg. 31 June 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
on the Fort McNair portion of the joint base.
New – Drug Free Workplace training
ASAP training which includes Drug Free Workplace for Supervisors and
Prevention of Workplace Violence will be offered June 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. ASAP
training which includes Drug Free Workplace for non-Supervisors and Prevention of
Workplace Violence will be offered June 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. Suicide Prevention will be
offered June 11 from 1 to 2 p.m. All trainings are in Bldg. 230.
New – AAOG to conduct flight training June 4

The Army Air Operations Group, 12th Aviation Battalion will conduct a flight
training exercise at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 in the Washington, D.C. area.
The one-hour training flight will begin at Davison Army Airfield along the DC
helicopter routes back to Davison. The DC helicopter primary route includes: the
Potomac River, Fort Washington, Haines Point, the Tidal Basin, Cabin John, along the I-
95 Greenbelt corridor and south of Andrews Air Force Base.
This is a planned exercise to test the 12th Aviation readiness posture to include a
multi-ship operation with a mixed battalion formation flight.

New – New Evening Classes on Communication
The Military Family Life Counselor Program at MCCS Henderson Hall holds
summer evening classes open to military ID card holders. All classes are held in Marine
and Family Programs Bldg. 12’s conference room Wednesdays, 6 to 7 p.m. June dates
and topics are: June 11, Communicating Feelings, which will focus on road blocks to
communication and communicating long distance; June 18, Assertiveness
Communication, which will examine how voice can block or enhance communication;
and June 25, Effective Communication, which will examine verbal and nonverbal

New – Welcome Aboard, Marines!
Marines and their family members are encouraged to attend a Welcome Aboard
orientation Tuesday, June 10, starting at 8 a.m. in Bldg. 21 on the Henderson Hall
portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. Find out imperative information and
resources available to you and your family. Civilian attire is permitted. A coupon
toward lunch in the Java Café given to all sponsors, and a bus tour of Washington D.C.

New – DTAP Offered
Learn about the Department of Veterans Affairs' Vocational Rehabilitation and
Employment (VR&E) program at DTAP, offered by MCCS Henderson Hall 1 to 3 p.m.
in Bldg. 29, Rm. 103. This workshop provides information on service-connected

The JBM-HH Army Career and Alumni Program has updated its seminars and

Firecracker 5K Twinkie Challenge registration now open
Registration is now open for the next run in the JBM-HH Commanders Race
series – the Firecracker 5K Twinkie Challenge. The race is scheduled for July 3 at the
Fort Myer Officers Club at 6:35 a.m. This race will be a 5K, but will also incorporate an
eating challenge of six Twinkies at the half-way mark.
Awards will be presented to the top male and female finishers (runners will eat
six Twinkies at the 2.5K mark). There will also be prizes for the craziest individual
costume, craziest couples costume and craziest group (three or more) costume.

Home-buying seminar offered June 18
A free home-buying seminar is being offered June 18 from noon to 1:30 in the
Community Activities Center on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. This class will
offer subject matter experts who will discuss Veterans Affairs benefits, mortgages and
settlement for buying and selling a home. Come and enjoy a free lunch and learn more

Naval commissioning program job fair
The Washington National Capital Region Mustang Association and the
Association of Naval Services Officer are hosting a Commissioning Program Job Fair 5
June, 2014 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Joe Rosenthal Theater, Bldg. 29A on the Henderson
Hall portion of the joint base. Briefer will give an overview of respective program and
answer questions.
The following Commissioning Programs will be briefed: Limited Duty/Chief Warrant
Officer (LDO/CWO); Seaman-to-Admiral (STA-21); Officer Candidate School (OCS); at
Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP); Medical Service Corps (MSC-IPP);
Naval Academy/NAPS and U.S. Coast Guard Commissioning Program.
This is an ideal opportunity for Sailors, of all grades, to learn about multiple
commissioning programs -- from the experts -- all at the same time. Sailors and Coast
Guard personnel interested in earning a commission should put this event on their

MWR Customer Satisfaction Survey
The Department of Defense is set to release its latest survey to gauge customer
satisfaction with Morale, Welfare and Recreation garrison facilities and programs.

DoD will focus this survey on select types of facilities and so management,
training and financial resources can be maximized in the current fiscal environment.
This year's questionnaire focuses on fitness, libraries, outdoor recreation,
recreation centers, auto service centers, single service member programs, leisure travel,
swimming pools, sports and athletics.
Participation in the survey is confidential to encourage honest and full
participation from Soldiers and Family members who are patrons of Family and MWR
services around the world.
IMCOM uses surveys like this, as well as their website www.ArmyMWR.com
and social media sites such as www.Facebook.com/FamilyMWR and
www.Twitter.com/FamilyMWR, to stay connected with MWR customers in the Army
community. Involvement in the survey will help ensure MWR fulfills customer needs
in the years to come.
First Sergeants Barracks Program
Barracks functions have been relocated from EMHD Housing Office, Building
205 Bloxon Street to 3d United States Infantry Regiment, “The Old Guard.” The point of
contact is Staff Sgt. (P) Jared T. Benge, Barracks Program NCOIC. The office is located
in Bldg. 246 in the basement.

Assignments and terminations; lost key or new keys services will be in the
basement of Bldg. 246 basement during the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

duty which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Dinner in the Barracks program is looking for volunteers to make a home-

Army Ten-Miler Team qualifier series
The first JBM-HH Army Ten-Miler 10K qualifier will be held Friday, June 6, with
the run beginning at 6:35 a.m. from the Fort Myer Fitness Center. The team has 40 slots
available on this year’s joint base team. All runners must be active duty. If a member is
selected to be a part of the JBM-HH ATM team, Family and Morale, Welfare and
Recreation will pay your entry fee for the race.

Marine Barracks Washington hosts Evening Parades
The Evening Parades are conducted on Fridays only through Aug. 29. There
will not be a Friday Evening Parade July 4.
The one hour and fifteen minute performance of music and precision marching,
the Evening Parade features "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, "The
Commandant's Own" The United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, the Marine
Corps Color Guard, the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon, Ceremonial Marchers, and
LCpl. Chesty XIII, the official mascot of Marine Barracks Washington.

Soldier for Life website available
The Army's web portal Army Knowledge Online -- better known as AKO -- has
been available to retirees and family members for many years now. However, the Army
is transitioning to a more secure enterprise network for business users -- Soldiers, Army
civilians and contractors. Retirees will continue to be able to access important
information about the Army, and information pertaining to health, retirement,

Presidential Salute Battery drills being conducted
The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) Presidential Salute Battery will
be conducting crew drills, which includes the firing of blank rounds, every Tuesday
morning from 7-8 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery. This is a reoccurring event,
which will occur every Tuesday unless mission dictates that it be cancelled. For more

School Physical appointments available for scheduling
Rader Army Health Clinic is now scheduling appointments for 2014-2015 school
and sport physicals. These appointments are available for Tricare Prime children
assigned to Rader Pediatric Clinic. It is recommended to make the appointment early
because space is limited and appointments fill fast.

Family Readiness
Play Morning (Outdoor)
This playgroup is for preschool age children to provide time for play, physical
activity and socialization for parents. Play morning is scheduled for June 4, 11, 18, and
25 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. We will meet at the playground (Virginia Highlands Park, 1600
South Hayes Street, Arlington, VA 22202) by the restrooms, weather permitting. Pre-

Baby Bundles
This class will provide an overview of developmental milestones for children
ages 0-3. Learn how to assess your child for developmental milestones and discuss
activities that you can do to help improve your child’s social, gross motor and cognitive

Individuals will receive information on the basic principles of emotions
management, specific information about the impact of unmanaged anger, and receive

Spouse Transition and Readiness Seminar (STARS)
The MCCS Career Resource Management Center holds a Spouse Transition and

provide military spouses with the knowledge, information, and resources associated

Résumé Writing Class
The MCCS Career Resource Management Center holds a résumé writing class
June 5, 9 to 11 a.m., in Bldg. 29, Rm. 104, on the Henderson Hall portion of Joint Base
Myer-Henderson Hall. Entitled “Résumé Writing 101: Private Sector Resume Tips and
Marketable Formats,” the class teaches how to draft private sector targeted resumes.
The topics include acceptable formats and design, prioritizing and highlighting key

Crack the Code, Get the Job
The MCCS Career Resource Management Center holds a class on the federal
hiring process June 5, 1 to 3 p.m., in Bldg. 29, Rm. 105, on the Henderson Hall portion
of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. The class, entitled “Cracking the Code to the
Federal Hiring Process,” reviews the federal hiring process and teaches participants
how to create a federal application package that will set them apart from the

MCCS Offers New Community Counseling Program
The new Community Counseling Program is designed to provide increased
access to counseling for Marines, sailors, and their families, and to focus on screening,
prevention, and intervention of stressors and problems to improve readiness and
quality of life. We offer individual, couple, family, child, and group counseling services.
All counselors are independently licensed and credentialed professionals who can work
with you to develop a plan and find solutions to meet your needs and help you

ACAP supports spouses in transition
Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military
personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service).
Some of the services offered to transitioning spouses include one-on-one assistance
with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment
Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary
negotiation) and financial planning.
More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE,
finding and applying for federal jobs and much more.
If your spouse is preparing to transition from the military -- retiring or ETSing, make

Anger Management workshops offered
Marine & Family Programs offers anger management workshops weekly,
Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshops are designed to teach eight tools for
managing anger. Participants may start at any time, but must attend all eight sessions to
receive a certificate of completion.
Sessions are in Building 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall portion of the
joint base. The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members, and

Stress workshops held Tuesdays
Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress
on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies
for dealing with stressors, is held Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s conference
room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying
stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing
yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan.
The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members and military
retirees.

Traffic, Roads, Grounds
New – Washington Boulevard and Columbia Pike construction
From 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 7 and 8, S. Quinn Street will be fully closed to all
traffic to and from Columbia Pike for VDOT to install a new sewer manhole and pipe.
During these hours, the right lane of eastbound Columbia Pike will also be closed.
Temporary road closure on Fort Myer portion of joint base
McNair Road from the intersection of Lee Avenue to Marshall Drive on the Fort
Myer portion of the joint base is closed, to include pedestrian and bicyclists, until
further notice due to road damage.

Parking lot on Fort McNair closed June 12

The D Street parking lot on the Fort McNair portion of the joint base will be
closed June 12 in support of a graduation ceremony taking place that day. The parking
lot will reopen after the ceremony is complete.
