NEW – Volunteers needed!
Volunteers from all services, civilians and family members are needed to support
two upcoming volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are needed Feb. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to
noon at Rosa Parks Elementary School, 6111 Ager Road, Hyattsville, Md. 20782. For

The second opportunity is in support of the Special Olympics Bowling
Championship Feb. 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m at the AMF Capital Plaza Lanes, 4601
Cooper Lane, Hyattsville, Md. At least 40 volunteers are needed for this event. The
opportunity is open to all services, civilians and family members. To sign up contact

NEW – Call of Duty tournament
USO-Metro is sponsoring a Call of Duty- GHOST, Xbox 360 single elimination
tournament for all service members Saturday, March 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The

tournament is open to all active duty service members, but registration space is limited
to 80 spots. The event will be held at the USO Warrior and Family Center on Fort
Belvoir, 5940 9th Street, Fort Belvoir, Va.

NEW – Catholic Lent/Easter schedule
All services will be held at the Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer portion of the
joint base unless otherwise stated.
Ash Wednesday Mass and distribution of ashes is March 5 at the Fort Myer
Memorial Chapel at noon and 6 p.m. and at Fort McNair NDU (location TBD) at noon.
Stations of the Cross will be held at 6 p.m. March 7, 14, 21, 28, and April 4 and 11
at the Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH. Stations of the Cross will
be followed by a penitential supper in the Fellowship Hall at 6:30 p.m.
Lenten Retreat at Memorial Chapel will be held March 30 at 6 p.m., first session,
no meal; March 31 meal at 6 p.m. and second session at 6:45 p.m.; April 1 meal at 6 p.m.
and penance service at 6:45 p.m.; April meal at 6 p.m. and final session at 6:45 p.m.
Palm Sunday, Rite of Blessing and Procession of Palms mass will be held April
12 at 5 p.m. and April 13 at 9 a.m.
April 14-16, Mass will be held at noon. There will not be noon Mass April 17-18.
Holy Week Triduum Liturgies:
April 17: Holy Thursday, Liturgy of the Lord’s Supper mass at 6 p.m. There will
be no other Mass that day.
April 18: Good Friday, Liturgy of Our Lord’s Passion and Death at 6 p.m. There
will be no other Mass that day.
April 19: Holy Saturday, Easter Vigil Mass at 7:30 p.m.
April 20: Solemn Easter Sunday Mass at 9 a.m.

NEW – Fife and Drum Corps celebrates 54 years
Join the Soldiers of The United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps as
they celebrate the Corps’ 54th birthday with a special performance Feb. 24 beginning at 7
p.m. in Conmy Hall on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH. The musical performance
will include performances by the Historical Flutes and Historical Trumpets, Fife
Ensemble, The Old Guard Drumline and a full marching performance by the fife and
Drum Corps. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit

Civilian employees need annual leave assistance
JBM-HH Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security employees
Malanya Wesley and Shari Dixon, Civilian Personnel Advisory Center (Labor and
Management Employee Relations) employee Detrick Glover, Directorate of Families
and Morale, Welfare and Recreation employee Leonard Toyer, Directorate of Human
Resources employee Edward Green, Directorate of Public Works employees Myrtle
Bowen and Rich Richards and Rader Health Clinic employee Frank Housen, are

approved recipients of the civilian personnel annual leave donor program. Due to
medical issues, they have exhausted both sick and annual leave.
Department of the Army civilian employees who would like to donate annual leave
to Wesley, Dixon, Glover, Toyer, Green, Bowen and Richards must fill out Form OPM
630A, "Request to Donate Annual Leave to Leave Recipient Under the Voluntary Leave
Transfer Program (Within Agency)" at www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/opm630a.pdf.
If you are a federal government civilian employee outside the Department of the
Army and want to donate annual leave to any of these colleagues, you must complete

Registration open for Shamrock Shuffle 5K
JBM-HH Commanders Race Series kicks off its 2014 season, March 14 with the
Shamrock Shuffle 5K Run and 1 mile walk. Race begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Myer Fitness
Center, Bldg. 414. Registration is FREE and the first 90 registrants will receive a
Shamrock Shuffle T-shirt. You can register on-line at

Myer Fitness Center from 5:30 to 6:15 a.m. Awards will be presented for Largest

Tax Centers open, free!
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall has TWO (2 – count ‘em) tax centers to take care of
all of us at tax time.
 There is the Military District of Washington Tax Center on the Fort Myer portion
of the joint base in Building 205 (new location from previous years) 101 Bloxon
Street. This Tax Center is now open for appointments or walk-ins Monday
through Friday and every other Saturday (Monday, Wednesday and Friday -8:30 to 4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday – 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and every other
Saturday, Feb. 8-April 12 – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – walk ins only.



There is the Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps Tax Center aboard the Henderson
Hall portion of the joint base, Building 29, Room 105. They are open now from 8
a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments are not necessary, but
appointments are available for more complex tax returns. Bring your military ID,
all W2s, all 1099s, 1098s, etc., social security cards for all family members, EIN for
day care providers, all documents supporting deductions and credits, copies of
your 2012 federal and state tax returns, tax power of attorney or IRS form 2848

Mobile DMV to visit Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH
The JBM-HH Army Career and Alumni Program will sponsor the Virginia
Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) mobile unit Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the
parking lot in front of the Bowling Center and Spates Community Club. They will
provide all or most services provided at a regular DMV office. The mobile until
provides JBM-HH Servicemembers, their Families, DoD civilians and retirees a different
and convenient venue exclusively without having to go to a regular office. For more

Rader Clinic opens enrollment to adults, children
Andrew Rader Health Clinic is opening up enrollment to adult and pediatric
patients. Priority will go to Tricare Prime eligible beneficiaries, though Tricare For Life
will also be considered. Below is the information you need for enrollment:
Who: Military Healthcare Beneficiaries wanting to get their primary care at Rader
Health Clinic
What: Bring your DEERS ID Card and inquire about signing up for RelayHealth as
well (Note: using Relay Health is not a requirement for enrollment)
When: 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with exception of Thursday,
which is from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Rader Dental Clinic closed Feb. 26; no sick call Feb. 13
Rader Dental Clinic, Building 525 on the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base MyerHenderson Hall, will close for mandatory staff training Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 7:30 to
11:30 a.m.
In addition, there will be no “sick call” at the Rader Dental Clinic – from 7:30 to 9:30
a.m. – but all other appointments will still occur. In an emergency during this time,
report to the Fort Belvoir Dental Clinic between 7 and 7:30; or return to Rader the
following day.

ACAP supports spouses in transition
Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military
personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service).
Some of the services offered to transitioning spouses include one-on-one assistance
with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment
Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary
negotiation) and financial planning.
More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE,
finding and applying for federal jobs and much more.
If your spouse is preparing to transition from the military -- retiring or ETSing, make
an appointment with ACAP.

Applications for Scholarships for Military Children available
Applications for the 2014 Scholarships Program are available at the commissary on
the Fort Myer side of the joint base and online at www.militaryscholar.org.
Applications must be turned in to a commissary by close of business Feb. 28, 2014.
Packages must be hand-delivered or shipped via U.S. Postal Service or other delivery
methods, not emailed or faxed.
This year's award amount has risen to $2,000, and the program awards at least one
scholarship at each commissary with qualified applicants. Applicants should ensure
that they and their sponsor are enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting
System (DEERS) database and have a military ID card.

Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area offers
child, spouse scholarships
The Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area provides
scholarships for children (high school students and college students) and spouses of U.
S. Army personnel. Funds for the scholarships are from the Fort Myer Thrift Shop.
Applications for the three programs must be mailed to the Thrift Shop by March 28,
2014.

Family Readiness
NEW – Play, Learn, Grow – The 5 Love Languages of Children
Parents bring your children (ages 0-5) Friday, Feb. 21 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for a time
of play, crafts and stories. Parents will be given an overview of the concept of a Love
Language, and be given a copy of the book “The Five Love Languages of Children.”
The book includes instructions for the “Love Languages Mystery Game” for families to
play at home. Class is held in the ACS classroom in Building 201 on the Fort Myer side
of the joint base. Registration required.

NEW – TransParenting

This 2-part seminar, held March 3 and 10 from 9-11 a.m. in Bldg. 201 on the Fort
Myer portion of JBM-HH is designed to provide parents who are separated or divorced
with the tools to ensure that they are able to continue supporting and encouraging their
children despite the breakup of the family unit. You must attend both sessions to

Participants will be given information on the basics of identifying stressors in
their life and how to create their own stress management plan. Class is held March 12

NEW – Coupled for life
This personality training is designed to help develop a better understanding of
your partner’s personality, provide tools to enhance communication skills, and tips for
overcoming personality challenges. Each participant will receive an individual
personality assessment, training materials and a personality exercise. The class will be
held March 13 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in Bldg. 405 on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH.

NEW – Baby Bundles
Prepare your home and your relationship for the changes that are needed you’re
your baby arrives. A brief overview of the labor and deliver process, newborn care and
baby proofing your home will be discussed. Individuals will receive a bay of free baby
care and safety items. Class is held March 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Bldg. 201 on the Fort

Anger Management workshops offered
Marine & Family Programs offers anger management workshops weekly,
Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshops are designed to teach eight tools for
managing anger. Participants may start at any time, but must attend all eight sessions to
receive a certificate of completion.

Sessions are in Building 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall portion of the
joint base. The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members, and
military retirees. To register, please call 703-614-7204.

Stress workshops held Tuesdays
Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress
on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies
for dealing with stressors, is held Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s conference
room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying
stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing
yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan.
The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members and military
retirees.
