Veteran’s Day Holiday Hours 
Most offices on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 11, a 
federal holiday commemorating Veterans Day. Most military activities will have 
curtailed operations Monday, Nov. 10. The following facilities and places of business 
have reported open or closed hours for Nov. 10 and 11. Unless otherwise noted, the list 
applies to Nov. 11. This list is not all encompassing; please check with the facility you 
wish to visit for more details. 
*Soldier for Life – Transition Assistance Program (formerly ACAP) – Closed. For more

New – Concert for Valor road closures 
The National Park Service and the United States Park Police in cooperation with 
local, state and federal law enforcement, public safety and transportation agencies, have 
developed security, logistics and access plans for HBO’s permitted Concert for Valor. 
The concert will take place on Tuesday, November 11 from 7-10 p.m. on the National 
Mall.

New – Fort Myer Thrift Shop adjusts hours for holiday 
The Fort Myer Thrift Shop will be closed, Tuesday, Nov. 11 for Veterans Day. The thrift shop 
will be open Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stop by and check out the fall sales and gifts 
for the holidays.

New – Civilian employees need annual leave assist 
A Logistics Readiness Center employee, Johnny L. Bailey, and a Directorate of 
Emergency Services employee, Christopher Watson, are approved recipients of the 
civilian personnel annual leave donor program. Due to medical issues, they have 
exhausted both sick and annual leave. 
Department of the Army civilian employees who would like to donate annual leave 
to Bailey and Watson must fill out Form OPM 630A, "Request to Donate Annual Leave 
to Leave Recipient Under the Voluntary Leave Transfer Program (Within Agency)" at 
www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/opm630a.pdf. 
If you are a federal government civilian employee outside the Department of the 
Army and want to donate annual leave to Bailey and Watson, you must complete OPM 
630B, "Request to Donate Annual Leave to Leave Recipient Under the Voluntary Leave

New – Annual tree lighting on JBM-HH 
The annual tree lighting ceremony held at Bldg. 59 on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base 
will take place Dec. 3. The pre-ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m., with the tree-lighting to begin at 5 
p.m. After the tree is lit, the community is welcomed to Brucker Hall for a special visit with Santa. 
Flu shots offered at JBM-HH Memorial Chapel 
Andrew Rader U.S. Army Health Clinic will offer seasonal flu clinics at the 
Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. Dates for the flu shot 
clinics are: Nov. 18 and 20. Each clinic is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 
These clinics are open to active duty military service members and their 
beneficiaries (ages 2 years old and up), retirees and their beneficiaries (ages 2 years old 
and up), and DOD civilians. Children younger than 2 years must go to their primary 
care doctor to receive the vaccine.

Federal Employee benefits open season to begin this month 
It’s never too early to begin planning. Open season for Federal Benefits runs from 
Nov. 10 through Dec. 8. Employees are responsible for ensuring they update their 
information and make any necessary changes during this time. For more information,

Office of Personnel Management’s website at www.opm.gov/FEHBbrochures. 
Prostate Cancer Support Group 
The Prostate Cancer Support Group meets at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital 
the second Thursday of every month. The next meeting will be Nov. 13, 1-2 p.m. and 
6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Urology Clinic, Sunrise Pavilion, second floor. Spouses/partners 
are invited. 
There is also a Prostate Cancer Support Group that meets at Walter Reed 
National Military Medical Center the third Thursday of every month. The next meeting 
will be Nov. 20, 1-2 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the America Building, River Conference 
Room, third floor. Spouses/partners are invited. A valid military identification card is 
required for base access to Walter Reed. For those without a military ID, call the

JBM-HH Turkey Trot schedule for Nov. 14
The second race of the JBM-HH Commanders Holiday Race Series continues 
with the JBM-HH Annual Turkey Trot 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk Friday, Nov. 14 
beginning at 6:30 a.m. at the Fort Myer Fitness Center. 
Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers. To register, log onto 
www.jbmhhMWR.com, click on Special Events and select Turkey Trot. Online 
registration will close at midnight Monday, Nov. 10. Race Day registration accepted 
from 5:30 a.m. to 6:15 a.m. at the Myer Fitness Center. 
This is the second of three races in the Holiday Race Series. You must register 
online and participate in all three races to qualify for a special race series coin. The final

Tour of National Museum of American Indian slated Nov. 19 
In honor of Native Americans, the JBM-HH Equal Opportunity Office has arranged a 
tour of the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., Wednesday, 
Nov. 19. Bus transportation will depart from Bldg. 405 on the Fort Myer portion of the 
joint base at 9:30 a.m.

Extended holiday return policy at Fort Myer Exchange 
To make gift giving easier, the Army & Air Force Exchange Service is extending its 
return policy for items purchased from now until Dec. 24. The Fort Myer Exchange’s 
standard policy allows returns anywhere from up to 15 to 90 days of purchase with a 
sales receipt. The holiday return/exchange policy extends these terms through Jan. 31, 
2015. Refunds with sales receipts are processed as forms of payment, cash for cash, 
credit for credit. Refunds without sales receipts receive an Exchange gift card. 
Shoppers can also return items purchased through shopmyexchange.com at the Fort 
Myer Exchange. For more information about the extended refund policy, shoppers can 
visit customer service at the Exchange. 
Monday Night Football at Spates Club 
Stop by Spates Community Club on Mondays throughout the football season for

Giant voice testing on JBM-HH 
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall will conduct a test of the Giant Voice every Tuesday 
at 10 a.m. This test will take about 20-30 minutes.
This test is a reoccurring event and will take place every Tuesday at 10 a.m. unless 
mission dictates otherwise.

Memorial Chapel to host leadership luncheon Nov. 13 
A leadership luncheon will be held at JBM-HH Memorial Chapel in the 
Fellowship Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 13. 
Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan, Joint Force Headquarters and the U.S. Army Military 
District of Washington commanding general, will be the guest presenter. 
The luncheon will provide the opportunity for different key leaders to share personal 
insights and knowledge of leadership with a focus on Army values and professional 
development. The leadership luncheon is a new event that will be held quarterly. In an 
informal atmosphere, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions concerning 
the topic. Pizza and soft drinks will be served free of charge. 
This event is open to all service members and DoD civilians. Space is limited to first

Special education workshop for EFMP 
JBM-HH Army Community Services will host a special education workshop for

IEP and special education laws and advocacy skills. This workshop is open to all DOD 
ID card holders who are parents or service providers to children with special needs.

Indoor Play Morning & Story Time is every Thursday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at

event of fun, music, engaging play and story time! We are also excited to have the

MCCS offers new Community Counseling Program 
The new Community Counseling Program is designed to provide increased access to 
counseling for Marines, Sailors and their families, and to focus on screening, 
prevention, and intervention of stressors and problems to improve readiness and 
quality of life. We offer individual, couple, family, child, and group counseling services. 
All counselors are independently licensed and credentialed professionals who can work 
with you to develop a plan and find solutions to meet your needs and help you

ACAP supports spouses in transition 
Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military 
personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service).

with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment 
Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary 
negotiation) and financial planning. 
More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE, 
finding and applying for federal jobs and much more.

Anger Management workshops offered
Marine & Family Programs offers anger management workshops weekly, 
Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshops are designed to teach eight tools for 
managing anger. Participants may start at any time, but must attend all eight sessions to 
receive a certificate of completion. 
Sessions are in Building 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall portion of the 
joint base. The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members and

Stress workshops held Tuesdays 
Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress 
on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies 
for dealing with stressors, is held Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s conference 
room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying 
stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing 
yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan. 
The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members and military 
retirees.

Traffic, Roads and Grounds 
New – Temporary road closures Nov. 14 on Fort Myer 
All traffic will be halted and redirected Nov. 14 from approximately 6:30 to 7:00 
a.m. on McNair Road adjacent to Memorial Chapel and Carpenter Road from the 
intersection of the PX parking lot to Patton Drive on the Fort Myer portion of the joint 
base. 
Traffic will be able to enter Hatfield Gate, but must turn at Sheridan Ave. or the 
PX parking lot. No traffic, to include vehicles, pedestrians or bicyclists, will be able 
travel on Carpenter Road during this time. The Directorate of Emergency Services 
recommends traffic trying to get to the Cody Child Development Center, Rader Clinic 
or the Commissary enter through the Henderson Hall Gate during this time.

New – Annual tree lighting on JBM-HH The annual tree lighting ceremony held at Bldg. 59 on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base will take place Dec. 3. The pre-ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m., with the tree-lighting to begin at 5 p.m. After the tree is lit, the community is welcomed to Brucker Hall for a special visit with Santa. Flu shots offered at JBM-HH Memorial Chapel Andrew Rader U.S. Army Health Clinic will offer seasonal flu clinics at the Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. Dates for the flu shot clinics are: Nov. 18 and 20. Each clinic is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. These clinics are open to active duty military service members and their beneficiaries (ages 2 years old and up), retirees and their beneficiaries (ages 2 years old and up), and DOD civilians. Traffic, Roads and Grounds New – Temporary road closures Nov. 14 on Fort Myer All traffic will be halted and redirected Nov. 14 from approximately 6:30 to 7:00 a.m. on McNair Road adjacent to Memorial Chapel and Carpenter Road from the intersection of the PX parking lot to Patton Drive on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. Traffic will be able to enter Hatfield Gate, but must turn at Sheridan Ave. or the PX parking lot. No traffic, to include vehicles, pedestrians or bicyclists, will be able travel on Carpenter Road during this time. The Directorate of Emergency Services recommends traffic trying to get to the Cody Child Development Center, Rader Clinic or the Commissary enter through the Henderson Hall Gate during this time.
