New – Absentee Voting Week 
Sept. 29 – Oct. 6 is designated as Absentee Voting week. The goal is to encourage 
all citizens voting under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act 
(UOCAVA) to register to vote. The cutoff for requests this year is October 7th. 
During this week JBM-HH will offer voting assistance officers (VAOs) to 
encourage all eligible citizens to participate in the Nov. 4 Federal election. 
This year’s mail-in deadline is October 20th.

New – Locker verification requirements at Smith Gym 
From Oct. 1-31, all Cpl. Terry L. Smith Gym patrons must verify that that they 
still require a locker. Patrons should stop by the front desk to re-sign for lockers. The 
deadline to verify locker requirements is Oct. 31. After Oct. 31, gym staff will cut off

New – 2014 CFC Kickoff fun run/walk
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall is hosting a 2-mile fun run and 1-mile walk to 
kick off this year’s Combined Federal Campaign. The race is Oct. 1 and begins at 6:30 
a.m. at the Fort Myer Fitness Center. On-site registration will be held from 5:30-6:15 
a.m. 
This year’s CFC theme is “Make It Possible.” To learn more about donating to

New – College information workshop Oct. 2 
Join the school liaisons from MCCS Henderson Hall and Naval District 
Washington at a college information workshop Oct. 2 from 10-11 a.m. in Pentagon 
Conference Room 3 (2C253). The workshop is open to DoD ID card holders and covers 
financial aspects of college. The topics include: Free Application for Federal Student Aid 
(FAFSA), Preparing Financially, Post 9/11, and scholarships for military-connected

New – Resume Writing 101 class Oct. 2 
The Henderson Hall Career Resource Management Center is hosting a Resume 
Writing 101 class Oct. 2 from 9-11 a.m. in Bldg. 29, Room 104 on the Henderson Hall

New – Fort Belvoir to host 19th Annual Oktoberfest Oct. 2-5 
It’s time for the highly anticipated Fort Belvoir Annual Oktoberfest Oct. 2-5. 
Oktoberfest is a four-day festival, with a carnival, fest tent and German food, beverages, 
music and dancing. Sunday is Military Appreciation Day with discounted carnival

New – Community Flea Market scheduled for Oct. 4 
The next community flea market will be held Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 
Community Center (Bldg. 405) on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. The 
community is welcome to rent a table for $10 from the community center and bring 
their items to sell, or just stop by to shop the sales. For more information, call 703-696-

New – Fort Myer Thrift Shop open Oct. 4 
The Fort Myer Thrift Shop will be open Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
The regular fall schedule is Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 
p.m. and the first Saturday of the month. The Thrift Shop continues to take donations, 
which can be dropped off on the front porch of the boutique (Bldg. 225). For more

New – Domestic Violence Prevention 1-Mile walk Oct. 11 
The Henderson Hall portion of the joint base is hosting a one mile Four-Legged Friends 
Against Domestic Violence dog walk Oct. 11. Registration starts at 8 a.m. on the top 
level of the MCX parking garage on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. The 
walk kicks off at 9 a.m. Refreshments will be available and prizes will be awarded for

New – JFHQ-NCR/MDW survey underway 
The Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region and the U.S. Army 
Military District of Washington team is seeking feedback about their weekly newsletter.

New – Henderson Hall FMEAP/SAC survey underway 
If you have used the Family Member Employment Assistance Program (FMEAP) 
and/or School Age Care Program (SAC) please take a short survey. Your feedback will 
be instrumental in helping leadership gauge the quality of service received from these 
programs and provide a road-map of where to focus improvement efforts that may be

Fuel station for government vehicles temporarily closed 
The fuel station for government vehicles located at Transportation Motor Pool on 
the Fort Myer portion of the joint base will be temporarily closed beginning Sept. 29 at 5 
p.m. and will re-open Oct. 1 at 5:30 a.m. This temporary closure is in support of end of 
fiscal year inventory. Customers needing to refuel government vehicles during this time 
are able to use the AAFES fueling stations or local gas stations using their government

Ethics training available on Fort McNair and Fort Myer 
All employees who are required to file a financial disclosure must also receive 
annual ethics training. Training for members of the Military District of Washington, 
Joint Forces-National Capital Region, and Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall who have
not received this training must satisfy their training requirement by attending one of the

Retiree Appreciation Day schedule for Oct. 10 
The annual Retiree Appreciation Day is scheduled for Oct. 10 at Spates

Community Club at 8:30 a.m.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month 
Join Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Commander Col. Mike Henderson at the

Critical Incident Peer Support Training Oct. 20-24 
The U.S. Army Military Police School, Behavioral Sciences Education & Training 
Division will train Soldiers, DoD civilians and JBM-HH community members how to 
provide an avenue for their peers to “talk out” their personal/professional problems 
regarding critical incidents confidentially with fellow responders/investigators (non 
professionals) who not only care a great deal about their well-being, but who also have 
a first-hand understanding of their situation. The training will be held at Spates

Junior wrestling coaches, participants sought 
JBM-HH’s Child, Youth and School Age Services junior wrestling registration is 
underway until Nov. 14. The program is open to children of eligible Department of 
Defense ID card holders. The program is coed.

Military Personnel Division to have new hours effective Oct. 1 
Effective Oct. 1, Military Personnel Division will be closed the first Wednesday 
of every month from 8 to 11:30 a.m. for training.

Keni Thomas, a former Army Ranger and Southern Country Rock artist will

Family Readiness 
Play morning 
Play Morning is scheduled for Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at 
Virginia Highlands Park, 1600 South Hayes Street, Arlington, VA 22202. 
This playgroup is for parents and preschool children to provide time for play, physical 
activity and socialization for parents. The group will meet at playground # 1, by the restrooms,

ScreamFree Marriage (4 part series) 
Couples will learn how to relate to each other in a calm, cool, connected way, 
celebrate differences and create a foundation for a great relationship. This is a four part 
series held Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The class is held at the Fort Belvoir 
ACS, 9800 Belvoir Road, Fort Belvoir, Va. 22060. For additional information or to

Yoga Therapy for EFMP children 
Learn about and experience yoga therapy designed for children with special needs Oct. 8 
from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fort Myer Fitness Center. The class is open to DoD ID card 
holders who are parents or service providers to children with special needs ages 5-11. Child care 
will not be provided, food and drink except water are not allowed in the gym. Class size is

Anger Management 
Individuals will receive information on the basic principles of emotions management, 
specific information about the impact of unmanaged anger, and receive resources on how to 
recognize and manage the anger triggers in their own lives. The class is schedule for Oct. 8 from

Darkness to Light- Stewards of Children 
This course teaches adults simple and pro-active steps to help protect children

Playtime in the Park 
Join the JBM-HH New Parent Support Program for a morning of fun at Frying 
Pan Park- Kidwell Farm Oct. 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Families will be able to ride 
the carousel and enjoy the petting zoo. Parents and children ages 0-5 are welcome. For

Stress Management 
Participants will be given information on the basics of identifying stressors in

Baby Bundles 
Prepare your home and relationship for the changes that are needed when your new baby 
arrives. A brief overview of the labor and delivery process, newborn care, and baby proofing 
your home will be discussed. Individuals will receive a bag of free baby care and safety items.

Date Night—Sizzling in the Kitchen! 
Join the Family Advocacy Program for an evening of celebrating healthy 
relationships while heating things up in the kitchen and creating healthy meals. The

Generation Sext! 
Many Teens believe that anything they want to do with their bodies and their 
phones is their business. Let’s discuss ways to help our children avoid potentially life-changing

MCCS Offers New Community Counseling Program 
The new Community Counseling Program is designed to provide increased 
access to counseling for Marines, sailors, and their families, and to focus on screening, 
prevention, and intervention of stressors and problems to improve readiness and 
quality of life. We offer individual, couple, family, child, and group counseling services. 
All counselors are independently licensed and credentialed professionals who can work 
with you to develop a plan and find solutions to meet your needs and help you

ACAP supports spouses in transition 
Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military 
personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service). 
Some of the services offered to transitioning spouses include one-on-one assistance 
with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment 
Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary 
negotiation) and financial planning. 
More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE, 
finding and applying for federal jobs and much more.

Anger Management workshops offered 
Marine & Family Programs offers anger management workshops weekly, 
Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshops are designed to teach eight tools for 
managing anger. Participants may start at any time, but must attend all eight sessions to 
receive a certificate of completion. 
Sessions are in Building 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall portion of the 
joint base. The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members, and

Stress workshops held Tuesdays 
Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress 
on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies 
for dealing with stressors, is held Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s conference 
room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying 
stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing
yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan. 
The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members and military 
retirees.

The goal is to encourage all citizens voting under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) to register to vote. The cutoff for requests this year is October 7th. During this week JBM-HH will offer voting assistance officers (VAOs) to encourage all eligible citizens to participate in the Nov. 4 Federal election. This year’s mail-in deadline is October 20th. For more information contact the Installation Voting Assistance Officer Charissa Seastrum-Morris at 703-696-6361 or visit www.fvap.gov. New – Locker verification requirements at Smith Gym From Oct. 1-31, all Cpl. Terry L. Smith Gym patrons must verify that that they still require a locker. Patrons should stop by the front desk to re-sign for lockers. The deadline to verify locker requirements is Oct. 31. After Oct. 31, gym staff will cut off locks for unverified lockers.   • 2. Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall is hosting a 2-mile fun run and 1-mile walk to kick off this year’s Combined Federal Campaign. The race is Oct. 1 and begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Fort Myer Fitness Center. On-site registration will be held from 5:30-6:15 a.m. This year’s CFC theme is “Make It Possible.” To learn more about donating to CFC, log onto www.cfcnca.org. Sunday is Military Appreciation Day with discounted carnival wristbands for active-duty military and families. Fuel station for government vehicles temporarily closed The fuel station for government vehicles located at Transportation Motor Pool on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base will be temporarily closed beginning Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. and will re-open Oct. 1 at 5:30 a.m. This temporary closure is in support of end of fiscal year inventory. Customers needing to refuel government vehicles during this time are able to use the AAFES fueling stations or local gas stations using their government purchase card. Training for members of the Military District of Washington, Joint Forces-National Capital Region, and Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall who have
