2) Identify all stakeholders and define their roles and responsibilities using a RACI matrix.
3) Brainstorm capabilities, not detailed requirements, using a tool like MindManager.
4) Define the mission in terms of observable changes to business processes and measurable value.
5) Put boundaries on the project scope by connecting it to needed capabilities before defining technical requirements.
6) Control non-value added changes by ensuring they increase delivered value.
7) Create a deliverables-based plan that pre-defines business value.

Jimi Hendrix, born Johnny Allen Hendrix in Seattle, Washington, on November 27, 1942. and Morgan Freeman, born on June 1, 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee, have lived very different lives. But, proponents of the theory suggest that the five-year age difference is negligible and point to Freeman's late start in his acting career as evidence of a life lived before under a different identity.
The Disappearance and Reappearance
Jimi Hendrix's death in 1970 at the age of 27 is a well-documented event. But, theorists argue that Hendrix's death staged. and he reemerged as Morgan Freeman. They highlight Freeman's rise to prominence in the early 1970s. coinciding with Hendrix's supposed death. Freeman's first significant acting role came in 1971 on the children's television show "The Electric Company," a mere year after Hendrix's passing.
Physical Resemblances
Facial Structure and Features
One of the most compelling arguments for the hypothesis that Morgan Freeman is Jimi Hendrix lies in the physical resemblance between the two men. Analyzing photographs, proponents point out similarities in facial structure. particularly the cheekbones and jawline. Both men have a distinctive gap between their front teeth. which is rare and often highlighted as a critical point of similarity.
Voice and Mannerisms
Supporters of the theory also draw attention to the similarities in their voices. Jimi Hendrix known for his smooth, distinctive speaking voice. which, according to some, resembles Morgan Freeman's iconic, deep, and soothing voice. Additionally, both men share certain mannerisms. such as their calm demeanor and eloquent speech patterns.
Artistic Parallels
Musical and Acting Talents

1. Band Booster Newsletter
John Marshall High School
M ay 2009
S p r in g is s u e
Dear JM Band Boosters and Friends,
Another great year for the JM band program has almost come to an end! With this closing of
the year come new beginnings not only for our graduating seniors as they move to the next stage of
their life after high school, but also for our 9th – 11th grade band students. The Rochester high school
band directors and their principals have met since November 2008 wrestling with the imminent cuts to
the district’s budget and the impact that will have on the high school band programs. Taking into
account the cuts in Pepsi Fund resources for the marching band program and no contractual stipend
provided for the Rochester band directors for their summer and fall evening / weekend hours through
the current union contact, a proposal was developed by the directors, agreed to and funded by the
building principals, and recently confirmed by the Rochester School Board. Beginning Fall 2009, the
Semester I high school band programs in Rochester will be reorganized to focus more on the concert
band experience while still retaining many important aspects of the marching band / pep band
contributions the bands can still make to the life of each Rochester high school. An informational
meeting for the John Marshall band program will take place on Tuesday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m. in
Ilstrup Auditorium designed to explain in detail what the reorganized program will look like at John
Marshall and what time commitments will be required of 10th – 12th grade band students this next
school year. Hopefully students originally concerned about extreme time commitments for marching
band will note the reductions in time commitments and reconsider participating with us in band next
year so they can continue making music in high school.
Preparation is already underway for next fall as students make application for student leadership
positions, students interested in color guard participate in May auditions, and all band students
participate in Quarter 4 juries that will determine both drumline assignments and band / chair
placements for next year’s fall program (This test is also the Semester II final exam!!). By the end of
the school year, the music for next year’s parade and pep band will be selected and sketched out in
rehearsals for the students to take home to learn during the summer …. So the cycle starts all over
again with new leaders stepping into the “large shoes” left to be filled by this year’s outstanding senior
class. The calendar for the 2009-2010 JM Band program will be given to the students in class as it is
firmed up in the near future and will be emailed to all families in our band database.
The last two months of school are a whirlwind of activities for band students who produce
tremendous product with complete professionalism in every event. The list includes:
1. JM Marching Band’s 8-day tour to Florida in late March / early April where they marched at
Disney’s Magic Kingdom and Universal Studios Theme Park and participated in the “You’re
Instrumental” clinic at Disney’s Epcot. All parents should be so proud of these fine young
ambassadors for JM and Rochester.
2. Jerry Luckhardt, Associate Conductor of Bands at the University of Minnesota, served as
clinician for all three JM bands on Thursday, April 16. Thanks to the JM Band Boosters for
supporting this important educational experience for the program.
3. “Thoroughly Modern Millie” production by JM Drama Department with some band students
performing on stage with acting roles and others performing as part of the pit orchestra.

2. 4. Home Big Nine Concert on Monday, April 27, with JM Symphonic Winds, JM Symphony
Orchestra, and JM Concert Choir in preparation for the Big Nine Music Festival;
5. Big Nine Music Festival was held at Austin High School this year on Friday, May 1. The JM
Symphonic Winds gave an outstanding performance of Percy Grainger’s “Molly On The
Shore”, Philip Sparke’s “Sunrise At Angel’s Gate”, and John Philip Sousa’s “The Washington
Post March”. JM band students who participated in the Big Nine Select Band and Orchestra at
the evening Grand Finale Concert are as follows: Band – Alex Antolak (bassoon), Rachel
Tamminga (alto saxophone), Ihab Mikati (tenor saxophone), Kyle Kubat (trumpet), Ashley
Murrell (French horn), Kevin Greentree (tuba), Chris Nelson (tuba), Bill Ollhoff (percussion),
Kelsey Mirehouse (percussion) / Orchestra – Megan Settell (piccolo), Philip Muehe (oboe),
Maly Schacht (clarinet/bass clarinet), A.J. Depman (trumpet), Emily Gresbrink (trombone).
6. JM Band Fine Arts Concert is coming up on Tuesday, May 19, at 7:00 p.m. when all three
concert bands will perform. The band’s 38 graduating seniors will be honored that night with a
reception following the concert. Highlights of this concert will include a solo performance with
the band by All-State tuba player Kevin Greentree and the premier of an original composition
for band by senior Nick Podvin (All-State bassoonist) playing piano on his composition.
7. Annual JM Band Banquet will be held in the JM Cafeteria on Tuesday, May 26, at 6:30 p.m.
and will be catered by Canadian Honker Restaurant. This event is a celebration of student
successes and participation in music events for the second half of the school year. Drum majors
for next year’s JM Marching Band will be announced at the end of the night and a video of the
year in review will be shown. ALL band student meal costs are paid for by the JM Band
Boosters – look for your invitations in the mail shortly for this all family event.
8. JM Graduation Ceremony held at RCTC Fieldhouse on Saturday, June 6, at 7:00 p.m. with a
performance by all JM Band sophomores and juniors. Congratulations to the graduating band
seniors and thank you to the underclassmen band students for your contributions to this
event.JM Drumline Camp will take place Tuesday, June 9 – Friday, June 12 from 4:00 – 9:00
p.m. in the JM Band room. This camp is required of all current 9th – 11th grade percussion
students intending to participate in band in the 2009 – 2010 school year.
Thanks to all parents who were so involved in making this a great year of music- making and
exciting band activities. My sincere thanks to the members of the JM Band Boosters Board of
Directors – the continued success and high quality of the offerings of the JM band program are
directly related to the contributions of time, energy, and money you have made to the program this
year. A special thanks to Mark Kubat for his leadership as President of the JM Band Boosters this
year. Please look for the calendar for next year soon to be released so you can reserve all dates on
your family calendars. I look forward to the coming year and hope you all have a restful and
relaxing summer.
Sincerely,
Christopher W. Jarvis

4. President’s Farewell
As the school year ends, so does my time as the John Marshall Band
Booster President. It is hard to believe that this year is already over.
This has been a year filled with great programs and great
accomplishments. The students involved in the John Marshall band
programs are the best musicians and young people around. I am so
proud of each and every one of them. I had the unique pleasure of spending time with them
on many different occasions and will have very fond memories.
I want to say a special thank you to Mr. Jarvis for allowing me to work with him and his
band program. It is amazing what one teacher can do with so many students. I tip my hat
to him. Next I want to thank the wonderful John Marshall Board members that I have had
the pleasure to work with over the year. Marla Berg was the vice-president. Thanks to
Marla for all you have done, for always being there and willing to offer that extra hand.
Shelly Savage, treasurer, you did a great job with such a difficult and important task and
did so many more duties too numerous to mention. Joyce Lehman, our secretary, thanks for
getting the minutes done even when it was not always the easiest to do. Allan Mirehouse,
your dedication and commitment to the board, band, game crew, parades, and Eden Prairie
are greatly appreciated. Paul Henke thanks for your creativity in designing our new band
ware and decorations for PB&J. Brian Sander, thanks for working tirelessly with our
website, computer programs, pictures, and car wash signs. Jan Braun, thank you for
another successful ice cream social and always being there and willing to assist whenever
needed. Jane Jacobs, thanks for your outstanding knowledge and ability to communicate
and to make our publicity efforts the best ever. Paul Tamminga, who was willing to work
with the John Marshall Band website, newsletters, and PB&J spread sheets. I would also
like to thank Leanne Cragun for serving us for the last ten years taking care of our precious,
aging uniforms. Thank you also to Doris Kubat for chairing this years PB&J, things ran
smoothly and you did a wonderful job.
I also want to take a few minutes to say thank you to all the parents and families of the
John Marshall band students. I have enjoyed working with these energetic and inspiring
students and their parents. Thanks for all the different ways that you have volunteered over
the year to support the John Marshall bands. It might have been donating to a concert
reception, bringing popsicles, ushering at a concert, chaperoning, or working at the PB&J,
whatever you have done over the year has assisted the John Marshall Bands to be the great
groups that they are. All of us together have supported the students this year to make it a
great year. Thanks again for all you have done.
Mark Kubat

5. 2009 Orlando Magic Tour –
John Marshall Marching Band
The Florida Band Trip – what a great trip!
Three bus loads of 112 JM band students,
13 chaperones. and Mr. Jarvis headed to
sunny and warm Florida during a cold
Minnesota spring break from March 26 – April 2. Mr. Jarvis put a
great trip together for these kids and we had a great time together.
We arrived in Orlando after a 30 hour bus ride and got to go to our
first Disney attraction – Downtown Disney. The following day, Magic
Kingdom! Marching there was a blast. The parade the kids marched in was in
the evening and backstage excitement after a day of fun rides on places like
Splash Mountain, Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
The following day at Epcot included a fantastic 4-hour workshop called “You’re
Instrumental” – the students were NOT looking forward to this prior to it
occurring (4 hours inside when you are at Epcot – are you kidding???), but
it was absolutely amazing the work these kids did with the clinician.
Comments from the students after were – “that was so cool”. “the best we have ever sounded”, “I
am so glad we did that!”, “this made the trip”. You will get to hear the results of their workshop
at the JM Band Banquet on May 26th, so don’t miss it.
The students did their last march of the year at Universal Studios. Prior to marching they had a
great time jammin’ it up for one last time with the drum line. The band sounded great as they
always do. After the marching in the morning, we spent the day at Universal Studios and following
day went to Animal Kingdom and the Beach (Cocoa Beach). Rained at the beach, but the kids still
swam and had a great time. Last day of parks was April 1st at Hollywood Studios. I think we were
all parked out after the 5th park :) The students (and chaperones!) had a great time and
represented our school very well with their behavior and performances.
We wish to thank Mr. Jarvis for all the extra time and energy he put into organizing and ensuring
that all kids who wished to go could go. We are very fortunate to have him as the teacher and
instructor of our fine students.

6. PB&J Wrap-up
Pancake Breakfast & Jammin’ is a huge undertaking for the Band Boosters. It is a
combination of so many meaningful things in one event: it is a fundraiser, a social
event, and a chance for everyone including family, friends, and community to
praise our kids for a job well done and contribute to their
rewarding band trip. This year with the outstanding efforts
put forth by our students and their parents, we were able
to have our most successful year ever. Over 900 people
were served this year, almost 100 more people than in years
past. This translated into more money for our students and
their band program.
Being the chair person for the PB&J this year gave me many opportunities to work
with our outstanding, young, band students. Working with these kids instilled a
great sense of pride in me. Their musicianship, leadership abilities, and all of their
individual talents are inspiring to me. The more time I spent with them, the more
I enjoyed it and wanted to continue volunteering my time to them. If you have
volunteered your time – thank you so much, if you haven’t please consider
volunteering even a small amount of time next year. It will be worth your
investment.
Thank you for the enjoyment and memories. I hope to see all of you next year.
Doris Kubat
