Early Childhood Brain Development Personal Statement
For the last two years, I had the incredible opportunity to work as a research assistant with Dr. Pat
Levitt at Children s Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. Levitt is a renowned figure in the field of
neuroscience research and serves as the Science Director of The National Scientific Council on the
Developing Child. This council consists of a diverse group of distinguished scientists who are
working to translate research on early brain development into a language that is understandable,
scientifically accurate, and useful for public decision makers. They have started a conversation
about the importance of providing a healthy environment for all young children. The combination
of genetics and early childhoodexperiences ultimately affect the development of a child s brain
architecture, which serves as the foundation for future learning, behavior, and health. Children who
experience persistent and significant adversity during their early childhood are at risk for
permanent damage to the formation of brain circuits. Chronic neglect, abuse, and the consequences
of severe poverty each result in an overactivation of a child s stress response. This prolonged stress
response is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Levitt and other members of the council provokes me. In combining my previous research
experience with the knowledge obtained in my graduate studies, I hope to bring awareness about
the mental health disparities that exist in underprivileged communities. In obtaining a Master s in
Biostatistics, I will gain an in depth understanding of complex statistical analysis for a variety of
data. Ultimately, I want to serve as a resource for the research scientists, clinicians, and community
representatives with whom I will work with. I want to be able to handle data sets in ways that make
it less overwhelming and obscure by translating it into valuable and understandable information that
can then be implemented to better the lives of those suffering from mental health

Postitive Influence of Rock Music
Positive Influences of Rock Music
Beneath misconceptions attached to rock music, lies the truth. In a recent unpublished survey,
results showed that the majority of people, a mixture of different age groups and genre listeners,
disagree that rock music has had any positive influences that outweigh the negative (Do). Through
lack of analyzing, many judge rock music without ever knowing the truth about it. Those that do
not understand the genre may blame it for everything that is wrong with today. Rock music is not
to blame for the darkness in our society; instead, it leads us away from it. It has many positive
influences that cannot be seen at a quick glance. Not only has rock affected individuals but society
and time altogether. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
System of a Down, a successful and influential rock band recite in В‘Boom! , one of their newest
songs:
Modern globalization, coupled with condemnations, unnecessary death, matador corporations,
puppeting your frustrations, with the blinded flag, manufacturing consent, is the name of the game,
the bottom line is money, nobody gives a f***. 4000 hungry children die per hour, from starvation,
while billions spent on bombs, create death showers (System of a Down).
Bands such as System of a Down are often charged with lyrics depicting their political views in
the world they live in. Rage Against the Machine similarly expressed their views through rock
music. They have been known to burn flags at their concerts, not to be malicious, but to make their
audience aware of freedom of speech and self expression. Many have followed suit and become
more involved with politics through bands like these, showing them that it is okay to be educated
in the issues around them. Recently with a push from punk bands, many have taken initiative to
vote and get educated in the 2004 elections. Punk rock bands joined together to start a website to
further influence and educate their audience called PunkVoter.com. Although they were biased
and stated so, their main goal was also made clear. Our goal is to educate, register and mobilize
over 500,000 of today s youth as one voice. We plan to use this election as a way to get our fans

2000 Us Presidential Election Essay
Introduction
The US Presidential Election of 2000 featured George W. Bush and Al Gore. It will go down in
history as one of the most closest electionsВЎВ¦ in US history. It also goes down as one of the most
controversial. The final decision was based on just a few hundred votes in Florida. The controversy
began when the media prematurely declared the winner twice based solely on exit polls. They
finally conceded that the Florida count was just too close to predict. It would take a month before
the election was ultimately certified after numerous court challenges and vote recounts. Republican
candidate George W. Bushwas declared the winner of the FloridaВЎВ¦s 25 electoral votes. This
was a victory by a razor thin margin of popular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As in the past, the media was covering the all important election. They had always relied on exit
polls as the polls closed across the nation. In reality, the Florida results were just too close to call.
Nevertheless, that did not stop the media from doing so. Not once, but twice, major news media
outlets were erroneous in their report. Around 8pm, it was declared that Al Gore was the
projected winner of the electoral votes in the state of Florida. However, a couple of hours later,
the projection was retracted and restated as Florida as being too close to call. Then, just after
2am on November 8, the mistake was made for a second time. The major networks declared
George W. as the winner. This even led to Al Gore calling the Governor to concede. However, as
Gore prepared to address his supporters in Nashville, Tennessee, he was alert to the shrinking
numbers in BushВЎВ¦s lead. The final total was now less than one half of a percent lead in favor
of Bush. That immediately calls for a recount of votes under state law. Subsequently, Gore called
Bush and retracted his concession. It wasnВЎВ¦t over yet! One thing was, Al Gore had prevailed in
the popular vote but without FloridaВЎВ¦s tally, the electoral vote was up in the air. The election
wasnВЎВ¦t over and the recounts began.

The results of the November 7, 2000 election were unknown for more than a month after the
election. The endless

Abstract
It has been 9 years since Google entered China Market officially, and 5 years since Google
established Google China. Despite having a brand value of an amazing $66.4 billion, Google.cn
still fails to dominate the search engine market in mainland China and faces stiff competition from
bitter rival Baidu. In other words, Baidu s market share in China is nearly 75 percent to Google
China s 25 percent. The secret to Baidu s success and Google s failure is largely positioning.
Chinese authorities blocked Google ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, Baidu.com is easier to remember than Google.cn.
Inability to control sensitive content. The Great Firewall is extremely sensitive when it comes to
pornography contents. The reason of blocking Google International is that netizens in China can
search pornography images via Google Images when the default setting of SafeSearch is off. In
contrast, Baidu has a strong filter to sieve out any unsuitable content that displeasure the Chinese
government. As a result, it s almost impossible to search any sensitive content on Baidu. Google
failed because government would not care about its position when all of us have to face the laws.
In China, consumers rely on blogs and other user generated consumer reporting when deciding what
to buy, mainly because they trust word of mouth much more than any blatant advertising campaign.
So it should come as no surprise that they re also very active participants, leaving more than twice
the amount of comments their peers elsewhere post.
The key issues and the lessons
China is a complicated market, more so with the media industry. The Chinese government retains
far more control over media, the press, and the internet than any other economy at a similarly
developed level.
Chinese internet users do not like to type, perhaps due to the fact that Mandarin has many
thousands of characters. They navigate almost entirely by using the mouse. This may look cluttered
and disorderly to an American, but it makes

The Use Of Nigger
The use of the term nigger can be used as a amicable greeting between two blacks, or as a
hideous pejorative (Marriott 94) towards blacks. Marriott notes that the use of nigger is usually
condoned and used by younger blacks as a term of endearment (98), in hopes to gradually alter
the meaning of the word. Their goal is to normalize the usage of nigger between blacks to dull its
edge whenever whites use it (Marriott 95). This has been proved somewhat efficient, as most
whites dread the word and express feelings of disgust whenever it is heard from the mouth of
whites. Many younger blacks believe their efforts are stimulating a progression in society, but older
blacks and the majority of whites assert just the opposite it illustrates anything

Compare And Contrast To Kill A Mockingbird And The Silver...
Many books and stories demonstrate the maturing of children by experiencing what life beyond
childhood is and how that affects their relationships and behavior. The stories To Kill a
Mockingbird and the Silver Star best show the effect of growing up through experiencing the
realities of life. To Kill a Mockingbird shows the maturity of a young girl named Scout who lives
during the Great Depressionwhen her father takes the job of defending a black man. Even though
The Silver Star does not take place during the depression it still shows the maturity of two girls
(Liz and Bean) when they become involved in a major court case in their new, small town. A

Although, they have this ideology, the Silver Star and To Killa Mockingbird have two different
themes. The Silver Star shows a theme of courage and what it involves. It demonstrates the
theme when Bean and her sister stand up to a powerful mill owner: Maddox. The story also uses
symbolism to express the theme with the Silver Star, a medal that Bean s father had earned. It is
used in the title to represent the courage that the girls had to face throughout the book. The story
shows what Bean thought a Silver Star that her father received from war represented and thought
that her sister had deserved the star because of the bravery that she showed. In chapter 56 of the
book, it states, I felt no right to earn it (the silver star). Liz certainly had, not just for everything
she d gone through but for protecting me. This shows the bravery that Bean thought towards her
sister and how it expresses the theme. The story To Kill a Mockingbird, although, shows a theme
that expresses innocents. This is expressed in the book when a black man is put on trial for crimes
that he did not commit, but was at court because of the racism from the town. It also shows
innocence with a character, Arthur Radley that the town feared for rumors based on him, but were
later proven false during the book. This shows that the character was innocent, but people still
feared him. The story, like the Silver Star, uses symbolism through the title: To Kill a Mockingbird,
in the story to portray the theme. The novel states, Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit
em, but remember it s a sin to kill a Mockingbird. This shows how something that is innocent like a
Mockingbird should not be killed. The themes that the two novels depict, show the maturity of the
characters in the story and what they learn throughout the

Measuring World Development Essay
Measuring World Development
Development is a complex economic, social and political phenomenon. There are a range of simple
and composite indicators used to measure development. There are many definitions of
development, perhaps the most used is;
Development refers to a number of characteristics such as demographic change, economic growth,
an increase in the case of resources, modernisation, higher levels of technology and political
freedom.
Indicators of development are put into four sectors: Economic, Social, Political and environmental.
These factors can be broken down into two groups, simple and composite. Such simple indictors
would be birth rate, death rate and GNP.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These types of countries are not necessarily not developed , they just have different customs,
cultural differences or they could be nomadic (farming based) or an indigenous population, as
described above.
Maps of the globe are produced to show levels of world development based on three key features;
wealth, social advantage and deprivation. An imaginary line can be seen around the world which
separates the developed countries and the non developed countries. This line is called the Brandt
line. It is a modern day method of measuring development. It basically separates countries based
on how economically stable a country is, how technologically advanced it is, how democratic and
how modern a country is. The line shows most developed countries to the north and west, whereas
the least developed countries to the south and east. As with every theory, there are exceptions.
These being Australia and New Zealand, which are classed as developed countries.
Other indicators of development that are being used today are the PQLI, which is the physical
quality of life index. Also the IHSI, which is the International Human Suffering Index. The PQLI is
a quantitative measure of development and can be calculated by taking the average of three
variables. These are life expectancy, literacy rates,

Existentialism In Antigone
During the mid 20th century, French philosopher Jean Paul Sartre coined the phrase existence
precedes essence . This is a central claim of existentialism. This philosophical theory stated that
humans have no predetermined purpose and that any purpose your life has is given to it by you.
Existentialism was a popular approach during and after World War II, which was when Anouilh
wrote this version of Antigone, that led many people to abandon any belief in an ordered world.
Although Jean Anouilh isn t an existentialist, in his play, Antigone, he writes Antigone as a
character who shows many characteristics that fit with a few ideas of existentialismto represent the
indifference of the universe to human concerns.
The central idea of existentialism is that human beings define themselves. We are put into this
world without a set path that we are supposed to follow. We must create our own ambitions and
values. We have to find our own reason for living. Antigone values the innocence of untainted
beauty and has a general love for life. We see this when she talks to the nurse about where she
has been at the beginning of the play, in which she says It was beautiful. The whole world was
grey when I went out... It s like a postcard (6). You can see here that she loves nature and the
beauty of the world. When Creon tries to explain to her how to attain happiness, she responds with,
I want to be sure of everything this very day; sure that everything will be as beautiful as when I

Analysis Of Gaius Valerius Catullus s The Iliad
The one main difference between the gods and mortals is that mortals can die, making it difficult
for a man to become truly god like. Homer makes no mention of the afterlife in The Iliad,
meaning that the only true way for a mortal to live on is through the remembrance of their life on
earth. Many strive for immortality, but to achieve it, one must obtain Kleos, the glory a man
receives in war. If a hero like Achillesor Hectorwere mentioned to someone today, chances are, the
person would know who the hero was. This is how immortality through Kleos works. When the
poet Gaius Valerius Catullus describes how he wishes for his poems to last for many generations,
even when he has long since passed, he is explaining that, through his poetry,... Show more content

Because of the promise of Kleos, a warrior is willing to risk everything he has, including his life,
to fight in battle. When Hector makes a visit to Troy, he visits his wife and son. His wife tries to
convince him to stay behind and not return, because if he does, he will die in battle. Hector
knows this, but says he is willing to risk his life to obtain the glory he and the rest of Troy deserve
(Fagles, 6. 510 555.) There are 255 named deaths in The Iliad (Laura Jenkinson.) This statistic
shows the extremity of the fighting. Achilles, Diomedes, Hector, and Patroclus are the top
killers in the epic. These are, furthermore, four of the more commonly recognized names when
someone mentions The Iliad today. This correlates with the idea that those who kill more people
are more likely to achieve Kleos and be remembered. As a quantitative way of tracking how
many people a warrior killed on the battle field, he can take the armor from the man he killed and
use it as a trophy. After Patroclus death, an argument arises about who gets his armor, which is
actually Achilles armor. Euphorbus claimed he was the one who actually killed Patroclus so he
deserves the prize, but Menelaus would not have it. Menelaus killed Euphorbus, which resulted in
all the Trojans being scared of facing Menelaus to fight for the armor, with the exception of Hector.
Hector succeeded in getting Patroclus armor, by showing fearlessness and willingness to fight for it
(Fagles, 17.1 140).

to do it. This is how to put a saddle on a horse. First, before they can do anything else is to go and

Research Paper Dermatologist
Dermatologist take care of people with problems relating to skin. They can prescribe medicine,
perform surgery, and write treatment plans for a patient. Most dermatologist work in a group
clinic. Working in a group clinic is very helpful because they share many of the same patients. It
is a lot easier to communicate information about a patient when most of the doctors work in the
same place. People aspiring to be a dermatologist need to be able to work long hours, be able to
handle stress, emotionally stable, patient, and have problem solving skills.
A bachelor s degree is the minimum degree a person can have to become a dermatologist. Math,
English, physics, biology, and inorganic and organic chemistry will most likely be required with a

Comparing Why The Geese Shrieked And Yentl The Yeshiva Boy
Nobody ever said life is easy. In fact, it s really about proving you can face challenges. This is
evident in Isaac Bashevis Singer s short stories Why the Geese Shrieked and Yentl the Yeshiva Boy
. Although The Mother, Yentl, and Hadass, the female characters of these stories, live in different
places during different times, they all face challenges of gender.
The situations that these characters encounter are quite different, at least on the outside. Mother is
a rationalist and the wife of a mystic rabbi. She suggests that there must be a logical explanation for
this sound because slaughtered geese don t shriek but her husband thinks there must be some
supernatural explanation as to why they are making this noise. As a woman, Mother cannot
outwardly express her disbelief that the reason for these shrieking geese is some sort of mystical
source without the permission of her husband. In contrast, Yentl, the main character of Yentl the

Black Culture In Africa
Black culture derives from interpretations of traits and other things from Africa.
Africa is continuously recreated and then reconstructed.
African culture is always abused by a large array of different people.
Africa is essential to the making of popular culture, black culture, and new religious systems with
fused roots.
Africa is also essential to the imagery of a modern nation.
The result of Africa being a contest icon is a struggle between white intellectuals, black leaders,
popular and elite culture, conformity and protest, and political ideas developed in the west and their

A Brazilian system of race relations creates a uniquely Brazilian Africa that hold both protest and

In Brazil, areas like the state of Bahia and the region around the city of Salvador have maintained
African Traits in its black culture.
In Bahia, a debate between modern sociologist and anthropologist took place. This debate
discussed whether or not black culture originated in the 1930 s and if contemporary black culture
should be read as the survival of black culture or a creative adaptation to racism. (Middle of page 2)

Rising Voices Summary
Rising voices, this is one of the best documentaries that i ve ever watched. The Rising Voices
documentary was talking about a few major events that has happened. They first talk about how the
language isn t getting told to the younger children in most areas. There are many people who talk
about the information of knowing that many Lakotas don t know how to speak there language.
That is why they started to have the immersion schools. It is a very good thing that they are having
the schools, so that the language does not die off. They wantit to keep going on for generations and
generations. The entire documentary just shows that the people of South and North Dakota needto
keep trying to learn their language so that it doesn t die. That the white men can get their way.
In the documentary I liked many different components. I liked how they used elders to talk about
the language, then the adults, than teens and lastly how they have the little kids talking in their
Native language. When the elders are talking in their language, it makes not only me feel
connected to the language but I think everyone in our class felt the same way. When the adults
are talking about not having known their language it makes me feel that even though I don t
know my language right now, but one day I will know my language. I will teach my kids the
language that died in my family. Then I look at the teens who I just was not very long ago. I know

Machiavelli s Principality
which could end in him losing the power. This army is very dangerous and unreliable.
Machiavelli defines it as the worst option for a principality. Then is the auxiliary army. This kind
of army is not unlike the previous one, it is an army that is not proper and eventually ends up
putting the principality in a situation of debt with the principality that the army belongs to. The
principality lost its military independence and is tied at the mercy of another principality.
Additionally, he describes, the own army that is the best army a principality could take and is the
most recommended by Machiavelli, for the simple reason that they are the only ones who are
entirely loyal to the princeand they are the most reliable. It is very difficult for a prince to be
betrayed by his own army. This is the army that you can trust battle, as they are trained according
to your commands. This is the kind of ideal army for a principality, new or acquired by
inheritance. Finally, he talks about the mixed army which is the mix of its own army and one
assistant. Whenever a prince has its own soldiers in an army, he can trust them, Machiavelli insists
that own soldiers are the most reliable and less dangerous for a prince.

Movie Theater Experience
Experiencing Film in Theaters Watching movies is probably one of my favorite activities, it
does not matter if the movie good or bad; I just want to watch them. I loved going to the theaters
as a kid because the entire experience was always so exciting, especially since it was the first thing
my mother let me do out on my own. Going to the movies had always been a blessing but as I
have grown I have made an effort to go less often. While the experience is still the same I just
notice just how bad the overall experience can be as well.
Honestly, the best part of watching a movie in theaters is the movie theater experience; for example
the seats, the popcorn, the large screen, the sound system, the people, and the new releases. It is not
just you in your room watching a movie, it is you reacting to the film and to the people around you
around you as well, all the while getting all these over the top elements as well. Movie going takes
a common experience and amplifies it so it feels like you re getting something even greater.
Plus, my favorite part for any film has always been the trailers; the exciting bits and pieces of
coming films thrown together to entice future visits. With fast paced action and cliffhanging
details that are thrown in the 2 3 minute time frame, I am left wanting to come back and see that
movie when it comes out. It is how they reel me in and keep me coming back in regular intervals.

consequences of continuing with the pregnancy until the stage of giving birth, taking into account
what life will be like for the foetus in the future.
To conclude, I believe that abortion should only be considered concerning the best interest of
the foetus because that is what is seen to be ethically right (by ending the possibility of suffering
and low quality of life that the foetus may have to endure if it was to be born). Situation Ethics,
devised by Joseph Fletcher could be a religious stance as to why the allowance of abortion for
disabled foetuses may be in accordance to religious principles also. For example, dependent on
the severity of a disability of a foetus, it might be reasonable to suggest aborting a foetus because
it would be the most loving thing to do. Agape love, the kind of love Jesus had for everyone in
which this theory teaches us to practice.

James Baldwin’s Critique of the Social Condition Essay
James Baldwin s Critique of the Social Condition James Baldwin was an African American
writer who, through his own personal experiences and life, addressed issues such as race,
sexuality, and the American identity. Notes of a Native Son is one of many essays that Baldwin
wrote during his lifetime. Within this essay, Baldwin talks about when his father died and the
events that revolved around it. His father s death occurs in the early 1940s, where oppression and
racism were still fairly prevalent in many cities across the nation. So amidst the events that revolve
around Baldwin s father s death, there are many riots and beatings taking place. This essay is
simply not a recollection of what Baldwin experienced in the... Show more content on

Immediately after the sentence, Baldwin describes the racial tension that exists between the
African Americans and the Whites. The people of Harlem as well as other cities are waiting for
that one injustice or catalyst that will push their tolerance over the top and lead them to
violently fight back through riot and protest. In one sentence, Baldwin manages to switch gears,
from one that is very private to a description of the general feeling felt among the people living in
Harlem. Baldwin, being a part of the community, takes his own feelings of waiting and applies it
to a general picture, where a lot of people were in fact waiting as well. Baldwin continues on and
says that blacks were being oppressed everywhere. ...Negro girls who set upon a white girl in the
subway because...she was stepping on their toes. Indeed she was, all over the nation (73). Not
only does this portray the ever growing tension felt among African Americans in a certain area, it
expresses the tension felt across the nation. African Americans everywhere were still continuously
looked down upon, causing agitation, which was the current social condition blacks and whites
faced. Soon after, the catalyst that ignites riots in Harlem, which was foreshadowed earlier in the
essay, takes place. The riots begins when a rumor spread claiming that a white police officer shot a
black soldier in the back, which wasn t the truth at all (81). The way

Jean Piaget s Theory Of Childhood Psychology
When you teach a child something, you forever take away his chance of discovering it for
himself. These words were articulated by one of the most influential figures in the area of
childhood intelligence, specifically developmental psychology. Jean Piaget was a Swiss clinical
psychologist who is well known for his work pertaining to child development. Similar to Freud and
Skinner, Piaget believed in order to understand human behavior, you have to start with
understanding how children function, grow and learn. Piaget spent ample years studying the
behaviors and thought processes of children, analyzing the origins and development of intelligence
and how it shapes our current and future behaviors. According to Piaget, intelligence is... Show

Instead, Piaget turned his emotional turmoil surrounding his mother s mental illness into an interest
in psychology, as young as an elementary school student. He excelled all through his school age
years, going above and beyond what was expected of him not only by his teachers but also as a
young scientist. As an undergraduate student, majoring in biology, preparing for his thesis
dissertation on mollusks, Piaget additionally strived to develop a biological theory of knowledge,
which is known today as his theory of genetic epistemology. Through his work, he concluded that
logic is inherent in action and that the roots of logic are therefore to be found in the organization
of action (Brainerd, 1996, p 191). This discovery became the basis of one of his many hypotheses,
stating that even the most complex forms of human reasoning are motor activities carried out on a
symbolic plane.
Piaget s first clinical interaction with children began after his graduation, when he took a job
working at Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon s laboratory, in a Parisian elementary school. His
assigned job was translating a standardized reasoning test, created by Cyril Burt, from English to
French (Brainerd, 1996). Much like his previous years in education, Piaget was not satisfied in
doing only what was expected of him. Due to his own curious nature, Piaget would ask the children
he was testing to explain their reasoning for choosing a particular answer.

Connection s Distant Voices Analysis
The development of horse riding accessories helping in warfare leading to the earliest form of the
telephone was one of the many examples of how James Burke demonstrates the connections
between modern day technology and the inventions throughout history. The use of something such
as the Stirrup that now seems so small would eventually lead to the then unimaginable creation of
long distance communication that is now something within our lives that we could not imagine
being without. Connection s: Distant Voices shows this historical development throughout the

that would make people better known upon winning, causing organized classes and changes... Show

When this problem was brought to the attention of a certain French scientist and mathematician,
Blaise Pascal, he and Otto von Guericke did several experiments with suction which eventually
led to the discovery of the vacuum. This discovery of the vacuum led to the discovery of
something we live with every single day, electricity. The discovery of electricity was due to
another French astronomer, Jean Picard, who was carrying a mercury filled barometer back to
his observatory. What is now known as Barometric light was the astounding glow that was
coming from the barometer as Jean Picard was carrying it, he later discovers it was his hand
rubbing against the glass that had caused such a reaction to happen within the tube. This
discovery had taken europe by storm as an Electricity Craze spread across europe as well, giving
birth to many early static electricity machines to see what it could do to the human body. Further
investigation into the abilities of electricity led to the first known battery, consisting of wires, metal

I believe that the US Presidential election should deserve all the media attention it is receiving

Brett Schaefer And Steven Groves
Brett Schaefer and Steven Groves believes the United States decision was justifiable. They argue
that the International Criminal Court has a worthy purpose, but still has issues that need to be
addressed before the United States would join the court. Schaefer and Groves explain the Article 98
Agreement and the American Service Member Protection Act. Also their argument contains the five
concerns the Bush Administration had about joining the ICC, but the two major concerns regard
the fear of political abuse of power and also the threat to national sovereignty.
In contrast, Michael P. Scharf believes the United Statesdecision was unjustifiable. He argues, the
conference in Rome attempted to compromise; however, the United States was not satisfied with
the modifications. What makes the refusal unjustifiable is because the United States did not want
be subjected to prosecutions and they did not want to take responsibility for their actions.
Schaefer and Groves argument contains facts. As an example, the International Criminal Courtdoes
not have a clear definition of what the crime of aggression is and has yet to define the crimes it
claims jurisdiction over (p. 152). This fact supports why the United States decision is justifiable
because their military actions could be charged by enemy countries since there is no clear definition
of what aggression means. Another example is that the International Criminal Court can prosecute
an individual from a country that is not party

Two Reasons God Asked To Create Eve
God waited to create Eve for 2 reasons: First, God wanted Adam to experience how it was to be

completely before loving anyone else. On the sixth day, God created humans to His image.
However, not a lot of people will notice that Eve was not created at the same time as Adamof even
immediately after him. God waited a bit to create her. Only God knows what His true and real
reasons were but in this essay, I will expand on the 2 reasons that I believe are the reasons why God
waited to create Eve. Evidence of these two points is found in Genesis 2 and 3. My first point is
that God waited to create Eve for a while was so that Adam would know how it was to be... Show

Adam was not lonely. Being lonely is a state of mind that causes many affects such as
depression, insomnia, and so forth. He was physically alone as in being the only one of his own
kind. He didn t feel lonely or any negative moods. He felt that something was missing as he
looked around to the other animals. Just like today, we feel that something is missing but we re
not sure what it may be. That s how I think Adam was feeling. Genesis 3 quotes that Adam had
exclaimed with joy that finally someone was made of himself and he called her woman. While
exclaiming in joy, the feeling that something was missing was no longer there and he felt
complete. (bottom paragraph) Last verse on how male and female unite to become one Adam
says flesh of his flesh and was made from his rib. Male and female are to be together, not alone.
Being made of his rib shows that she is a part of him. God created Eve later so that Adam would
know how it was to be alone and see that something was missing after naming the animals and
seeing each had its own pair. God created the feeling that something was missing in Adam so that

Body Image By Jamie Santa Cruz
Society follows a norm that requires a general agreement between groups in order to function as
a whole. Human beings are social group animals (Lessing 1) and need each other to survive with
the intention to get along or fit in. These desires to conform influence our idea about ourselves
(Lessing 1) and people lose a sense of their inner self based on these insecurities. The false
concept of ideal beauty of body image is displayed in the media and it pressures young women
and men to accept this particular notion of beauty. The role of the media comes into play because
it pressures individuals to give in, since they appeal to our need, which is to be accepted. Although,
people oppose to media pressuring individuals to conform, it is clear... Show more content on

In Body Image Pressure Increasingly Affect Boys, Jamie Santa Cruz shows that the media harms
boys and girls in similar ways. Cruz discusses that boys who were highly concerned with their
weight, about half were worried about gaining more muscles...major difference between boys and
girls when it comes to weight concern: whereas girls typically want to be thinner, boys are as likely
to feel pressure to gain weight as to lose it (1). This displays that boys feel obligated to look a
certain way like having a 6 pack or looking physically fit due to the influence of media. Similarly,
women want to lose weight because being skinny is considered to be attractive. Cruz shows that
most action figures have a significant proportion of muscles which displays the improbable
body image they set up for young boys (3 4) because of this, boys are falling prey to a distorted
image of themselves and their physical inadequacies (3 4). It is presenting men in a way that is
unnatural, like how girls and their bodies are advertised. We assume that this is how men should
appear and we judge them based on the illusions that the media has created. Cruz displays that
steroids is associated with depression, range attacks, suicidal tendencies, and cardiomyopathies (4).
He asserts that boys are pressured to look what is considered as healthy in society. This shows how
the media is harmful to boys because they can use other alternatives, such as

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of State Owned...
State owned enterprises are regarded as a particular circumstance of business organisations and
considered as the basis of economic growth in many countries (Zhang, 2011). It can be seen that
the proportion of state owned companies has increased from nine percent in 2005 to 23 percent in
2014 especially in China which has a proportion of 15 percent in 2014 (PwC, 2015). Furthermore,
state owned companies might be a necessary tool for development in emerging countries, because
they can be directed and achieved by governments. Although state owned companies have played
an important role in an economy, they sometimes seem to perform poorly compared with private
sectors on average in many countries, partly because the goals of public policy sometimes are
complicated to be achieved (World Bank Group, 2014). Therefore, many countries have decided to
privatise because they have expected that private sectors would operate and perform better than the
governmentwould do. Thus, privatisation has become an international phenomenon globally
particularly in addressing inefficiency from state enterprises. However, there might have some
benefits and drawbacks of privatisations, but all of the procedures are most likely to depend on the
quality of contracts and regulation in each circumstance. For this reason, this essay will examine:
firstly, the agency costs that seem to occur in state owned companies, secondly a privatisation will
be analysed as a result from those costs. Thirdly,

piqued my interest to explore the fundamentals of aviation. I could spend hours reading about
aircraft design and learning about the history of flight. A few years later, at the age of nine, I
saved up for my first radio controlled airplane. This was my introductory to radio controlled flight

Mary Poppins Movement Analysis
The movement decisions made by the director were key to making audience members feel
certain and distinct emotions. The opening sequence of Mary Poppins shows a backdrop of the
city of London. As the credits scroll by, the camera pans from right to left on the backdrop until it
zooms in on Mary Poppins sitting on a cloud. This specific camera movement allows for the
audience to make an easily detectable assumption that this lady on the cloud will be important in
the story of Mary Poppins. Another example of movement within the Mary Poppinsfilm is the scene
of the Banks family flying their kite while at the park. This is an example of movement in that
the director chose to have an upward movement of the camera, from the Banks family and to the
kite that is flying in the sky. This decision on camera movement allows the audience to have a
sense of hope for the Banks family, individually and as whole family. A third example is when
Mary, the children, and Bert go and visit Uncle Albert at his home. Within these scenes, several
reaction shots, low or high angle shots, and close ups cut back and forth from Uncle Albert
laughing and tumbling in the air, to the children laughing, to Bert trying to keep from laughing,
and Mary admonishing them. A cut to a long shot for reestablishing everyone s place in the room
keeps viewers focused. Editing is the way for the director to minimize the amount of distraction for
the audience members, in order to allow audiences to focus on

Essay on Lord of the Flies by William Golding
William Golding explores the vulnerability of society in a way that can be read on many
different levels. A less detailed look at the book, Lord of the Flies, is a simple fable about boys
stranded on an island. Another way to comprehend the book is as a statement about mans inner
savage and reverting to a primitive state without societies boundaries. By examining the Lord of the
Flies further, it is revealed that many themes portray Golding s views, including a religious
persecution theme.
Golding includes the theme of religious persecution to remind people of mans true nature, and by
doing so alludes the fact that the next time society deteriorates, due to nuclear war, may be the last.

The Uses Of Tissue And Skin
The use of fibroblasts in skin substitutes is a crucial step toward better burn wound healing.
Fibroblasts, which are naturally found in the dermis layer, are in charge of synthesizing and
secreting the components that make up the extracellular matrix. In order for the skin to heal
properly, one component that is especially important is collagen, for it plays a major part in the
structure of the skin. Lack of collagen synthesis during healing can lead to raised scar, resulting in
poor skin function and appearance[18].
TransCyte is a temporary, bioactive synthetic covering with a similar structure to Biobrane, with an
addition of fibroblasts. Like Biobrane, it is also used as covering for burn patients before
autografting or for patients with partial thickness burns who do not require autografts[11][12].
TransCyte consists of two layers, a silicone outer layer and an inner nylon mesh seeded with
fibroblasts. The outer silicone layer is a semipermeable membrane, containing a series of laser
punched holes that allow excess fluids to be drained[13]. The inner nylon mesh membrane is
coated with porcine collagen peptides, creating the base onto where the neonatal fibroblasts can be
cultured, since collagen is a main component of the skin. In order to seed the fibroblasts within the
nylon mesh, the entire membrane, silicone outer layer included, was placed inside a specially
designed bioreactor. This bioreactor provided a continuous, constant flow of fibroblasts at a rate of

The Time Period Of The Cold War
The time period of the Cold War was a breeding ground for ideological change. It was an era filled
with fear and paranoia, not simply of the unknown, but of neighbours, friends, and family. World
War II, the atomic bomb, the Cold War, made it hard for Americans to continue their optimism
historian Stephen Ambrose commented. This paradigm shift is evident in the texts from the era,
and by studying them we come to understand the values and atmosphere of the time and the effect
those values had on the texts. The Cold Warbegan after the end of World War II, after the atomic
bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States of America; that continued until the
early 90s with the dissolving of the Soviet Union. The two sides of the Cold War were the
Western Bloc and Eastern Bloc, which are terms given to the alliances formed by the USA and
NATO; and the USSR and the Warsaw Pact respectively. Named for its lack of major conflict or
bloodshed between its two super powers, the USA and USSR, despite the wars that occurred that
those super powers supported, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After the bombing and
subsequent end of WW II, the world was reeling from the unprecedented destruction it caused as
well as the implications and effects it would have on not only war but society itself. During this

never the violin, piano, and cello all in one. It was defiantly a new and exciting experience, which I
would like to be part of again.
The group name is The Mutter Bronfman Harrell Trio, which like I mention before consists of
Ms. Mutter, Mr. Bronfman, and Mr. Harrell. The venue was located in the city of Northridge,
18111 Nordhoff St, Northridge, CA 91330, on the campus of California State University
Northridge (CSUN) in the Valley Performing Arts Center. The performance was held on the 16th
of April, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. The performances was based on two trios. One in B flat major, Op. 97 (
Archduke ) by Ludwig Van Beethoven, and A minor, Op. 50 ( In Memory of a Great Artist ) by
Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
Lynn Harrell, is a well known Cello player who has toured in many places like Australia, New
Zealand, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and many more places around the United
States (U.S.). Anne Sophie Mutter, who is known for being one of the greatest violinists for over
35 years, has won four time Grammy Awards with Deutsche Grammophon, for their outstanding
collaboration. Yefim Bronfman, Piano, has also been nominated for a Grammy Award for his
Deutsche Grammophon recording in 2009.

Lincoln Memorial Research Paper
Washington was selected by the United States Constitution to be our National Capital. Hand
picked by George Washington and designed in a grid by a French architect, it became the center
of our nation and a hallmark of tourism. The city is rich with culture and life. According to
Washington.org, DC is a place where people live and visit, where restaurants and pubs buzz, where
cabs are hailed, hotels are busy and friends laugh. Why is this? Three prime reasons its areas,
monuments, and other attractions cause this cityto catapult to the forefront of touristic places.
Washington, DC is divided into 23 areas, including small parts of Virginia and Maryland that are
outside of but close to the city s borders. These areas are usually referred... Show more content on

One of these such constructions is the Lincoln Memorial, located on the National Mall. With a 175
pound statue of our sixteenth president measuring a towering nineteen feet, this open building
contains 36 columns of marble, each one representing a state in the Union when the influential,
esteemed Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Lush greenery surrounds the memorial, and the
inside walls contain inscriptions of both Lincoln s acclaimed Gettysburg Address and his Second
Inaugural Address. In a similar way, the Washington Monument is renowned for its infliction of
reverence. This staggering structure claims the title of the world s tallest stone structure,
measuring 555 5в…› tall. However, one becomes keenly aware of a distinct change in color
located about one third of the way up the monument. Suspension of development caused this
fading. When reconstruction began, the marble had to be extracted from a different quarry, and
erosion gave those specific stones a different color. Many war memorials dot the National Mall as
well. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the National World
War II Memorial, and the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial all honor our war veterans immensely
(Washington.org). Adjacent to the National Mall is the Tidal Basin. The Jefferson Memorial and
the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial are located here, as well as over 3000 Yoshino cherry
trees engulfing a broad lagoon, in conjunction with Donovan s information. Many memorials and
monuments are spread across Washington, all of them bringing respect and honor to figures and
groups who have been instrumental to our nation s

A Country Of Illusion Chapter 1 Summary
In chapter 1: A Country of Illusion, Reisner describes the exploration and settlement of the
Western United States, more specifically California. Reisner explains that a Spaniard by the
name of Francisco Vasquez de Coronado explored out this way for gold. Reisner then moves on
and goes into detail about the Powell Expedition of 1869 and says that explorers found land that
was dry and bare that showed no sign of vegetation which than got the name of the Great
American Desert. After the discussion of the barren land, Reisner briefly discussed the
Homestead Act and how it affected people and how it granted access and ownership of land to
people. In Chapter 2: The Red Queen, Reisner began to describe the early settlement into
California and the water issue that most came to face but in the act of describing this Reisner
discussed what he said was a famous water story... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the amount of dams being built it was seen that it could become a problem from the
amount of money being spent. Though there were many attempts to try and stop the growth of
the many dams going up all this was being fought by President Carter but his many attempts
were trumped due to bill and congress and also the election of President Reagan. In Chapter 10:
Chinatown, Reisner begins by illustrating how there is a misunderstanding and how people say
California is this place with prolific land with its beaches and green grasses, in all reality it is
mainly semi desert terrain. Reisner than talks about the 1960 s State Water Project and how it had
affected the economy and ecology of the U.S. then to wrap it up in line with this topic was the talk
of the California Aqueduct, corporate farms, and the low cost of water and how issue came to arise
due to all the water projects and irrigation throughout

dbq middle ages
The Middle Ages come into being around A.D. 500, which was after the western half of the
Roman Empire collapsed. They lasted to about A.D.1400 and are referenced to as a period of
time that experienced violence by Barbaric invasion, feudalism, disease, and strong feelings for
faith. The Dark Ages, the Age of Feudalism and the Age of Faith are all appropriate titles, however
the label that best fits is the Age of Faith because of the political, economic and social influence the
church held. The middle agesare often identified as the Dark Age because of the Black Death,
invasions by the Barbarians, and because of lack of enlightenment for the common people. A plague
most likely originating from Asia spread throughout Europe. Towns and... Show more content on

Their daily lives were centered on the manor and that was how it stayed until towns began to
grow into cities after the crusades (OI). Feudalism had positive bearings because it was the
solution for decentralized government and lack of protection but also held people back due to lack
of social mobility.
The Age of Faith is most accurate for describing the Middle Ages because of the political, social
and economic influence the church held. Feudalism was still not providing one united central
government but instead many small ones and so the church gained a governmental authority
over Western Europe. People were all working to try to get into Heaven, and because of that
there was a lot of control over telling people what to do. The church could excommunicate people
and even Kings if they felt that they were refusing to comply (OI). This gave the church power
over the Kings because they controlled who would not be allowed to return to the church; if
someone were excommunicated they would not be able to reach Heaven. At the time the bible was
written in Latin, which only could be read to the common people by a clergy member who could
explain what was written. With the reliance on the church the pope s words and explanations were
taken as God s. The Truce of God stated different peace agreements, which they enforced by
exerting their power and influence (Doc. 5). The Crusades were a major part of this because the
church declared to try to capture the Holy land. Pope Urban

Analysis Of The Play The Red And Brown Water Essay
Experience Essay About a month ago, my friend invited me to a play on campus that he was
going to be staring in. The play was titled, In the Red and Brown Water, and it was located at the
Annex theatre. I was curious to know what the play was about so that I can get an idea of what to
expect. He mentioned that it is a detailed representation of black culture in the projects of
Louisiana. Being that I am an African Americanmale who was raised in a predominately white
community, my interest in going to this play suddenly grew. The only knowledge I have about
the projects is through media and knowing the general stereotypes of an inner city area. When I
attended the play, I had a fantastic learning experience, and noticed several connections to the
texts that we study in the course. To begin with, the scenery of the play wasn t traditional by any
means. Rather than this being a common stage with a large crowd, this was a black box theatre
play. Basically, the stage was in the middle of the room and the audience surrounded the
performers. The room was about the size of an average high school classroom, which made the
play more personal. In fact, the actors would interact with the crowd at times throughout the play.
Next, when I first entered the room, I sensed a smooth vibe from the way the room looked. It was
very dim and the director played songs by black artist from our generation to serenade the audience
with black culture. At this moment, I began to feel very

Film Analysis Of Vertigo
Vertigo (1958) is frequently considered director Alfred Hitchcock s greatest film. It is the story
of a melancholy police officer, Scottie (James Stewart), forced to retire after his vertigo caused a
tragic accident. A friend, Gavin, tries to capitalize on Scottie s skills, so Gavin asks Scottie to
follow his unstable wife. By accident, Scottie falls in lovewith this wonderfully mysterious woman,
Madeleine. Scottie does not realize, however, that he is falling prey to an elaborate scheme set
up by Gavin which will make it appear like Madeleine kills herself. Scottie was unable to get to the
wife before she jumped out a window because of his vertigo.
Unaware of the scheme, Scottie feels responsible for the death and falls into a terrible mental
state. His friend, Midge, tries to pull him out of it, but to no avail. Finally, one day, Scottie spots
a woman that looks like Madeleine on the street. He follows her to her home and asks too many
questions. She knows who he is, but she can t reveal that he was just a pawn in a terrible crime.
Scottie is relentless and finally the look alike, Judy (Kim Novak) agrees to date him. Scottie
proceeds to control every aspect of Judy so that she looks like Madeleine. He changes her hair and
clothes. He falls in love with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hitchcock s direction was always top notch, but here, he created a new technique to demonstrate
Scottie s vertigo that is truly mesmerizing. Every shot is thoughtful and well crafted. Jimmy
Stewart plays the obsessed Scottie so well that it is actually disturbing. And though Kim Novak
was, at times, criticized for a stiff performance, more people now realize that she embodies the
terrified, abused, accessory to murder perfectly. The performance of Gavin is the weakest of the
film, but he is not the focus, so it does not affect the overall affect much. Holistically, the
performances and directorial choices are

Happy New Year s Eve Everyone !
Happy New Year s Eve everyone!
Now going back to my previous blog, I promised to start off each blog with a story from my life, so
here goes nothing.
Now there was a time where, we were all kids. For some of you that might have been ten years
ago, and for others of you, that might have been last year aha! There was a time when I was
about 7 years old. Now, after my parents divorced, my mother, my sisters and I lived in an
apartment complex. My younger sister, Alexis (age 6), and I were quick to make friends with
our neighbors, a girl named Madison (age 6), and her younger brother named Parker (age 5). They
were a little younger than us, but they were just as animated and active as we were. Now, Parker
was quite the character, I would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of a sudden, Parker loses control of the bike and starts to head down the hill. Alexis
immediately jumps off of the bike, and tells Parker to jump off, with Parker screaming, I can t
leave my Harley! Parker ends up at the bottom of the hill in the bushes of thorns crying, but still
trying to push his Harley up the hill. Madison runs home, and their parents come and takes Parker
s Harley out of the bushes and up the hill. His parents were very understanding when we told them
what happened, but Parker goes to say, I m not sure I can marry that gal after this!
Now thinking back on this story, I couldn t do anything except laugh! This story definitely put a
lot of things into perspective for me, when I relate it to my life experiences now. This story allows
me think about how I will approach things, going into the New Year. How I will approach conflict,
how I will approach drama, how I approach negativity. When thinking about those things, it gave
me three main points on how I can better myself, but also better the core of my heart.
1. Don t treat people how they treat you.
Going into 2016, this being one of the most important things you need to remember to grasp
onto. This was one of the biggest lessons I ve ran into this past year on multiple occasions.
Romans 12:18 states, If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. No matter
your status in this world, you will always run into people that sometime

  • 2. Early Childhood Brain Development Personal Statement For the last two years, I had the incredible opportunity to work as a research assistant with Dr. Pat Levitt at Children s Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. Levitt is a renowned figure in the field of neuroscience research and serves as the Science Director of The National Scientific Council on the Developing Child. This council consists of a diverse group of distinguished scientists who are working to translate research on early brain development into a language that is understandable, scientifically accurate, and useful for public decision makers. They have started a conversation about the importance of providing a healthy environment for all young children. The combination of genetics and early childhoodexperiences ultimately affect the development of a child s brain architecture, which serves as the foundation for future learning, behavior, and health. Children who experience persistent and significant adversity during their early childhood are at risk for permanent damage to the formation of brain circuits. Chronic neglect, abuse, and the consequences of severe poverty each result in an overactivation of a child s stress response. This prolonged stress response is... In combining my previous research experience with the knowledge obtained in my graduate studies, I hope to bring awareness about the mental health disparities that exist in underprivileged communities. In obtaining a Master s in Biostatistics, I will gain an in depth understanding of complex statistical analysis for a variety of data. Ultimately, I want to serve as a resource for the research scientists, clinicians, and community representatives with whom I will work with. I want to be able to handle data sets in ways that make it less overwhelming and obscure by translating it into valuable and understandable information that can then be implemented to better the lives of those suffering from mental health ... • 3. Postitive Influence of Rock Music Positive Influences of Rock Music Beneath misconceptions attached to rock music, lies the truth. In a recent unpublished survey, results showed that the majority of people, a mixture of different age groups and genre listeners, disagree that rock music has had any positive influences that outweigh the negative (Do). Through lack of analyzing, many judge rock music without ever knowing the truth about it. Those that do not understand the genre may blame it for everything that is wrong with today. Rock music is not to blame for the darkness in our society; instead, it leads us away from it. It has many positive influences that cannot be seen at a quick glance. Not only has rock affected individuals but society and time altogether. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... System of a Down, a successful and influential rock band recite in В‘Boom! , one of their newest songs: Modern globalization, coupled with condemnations, unnecessary death, matador corporations, puppeting your frustrations, with the blinded flag, manufacturing consent, is the name of the game, the bottom line is money, nobody gives a f***. 4000 hungry children die per hour, from starvation, while billions spent on bombs, create death showers (System of a Down). Bands such as System of a Down are often charged with lyrics depicting their political views in the world they live in. Rage Against the Machine similarly expressed their views through rock music. They have been known to burn flags at their concerts, not to be malicious, but to make their audience aware of freedom of speech and self expression. Many have followed suit and become more involved with politics through bands like these, showing them that it is okay to be educated in the issues around them. Recently with a push from punk bands, many have taken initiative to vote and get educated in the 2004 elections. Punk rock bands joined together to start a website to further influence and educate their audience called PunkVoter.com. Although they were biased and stated so, their main goal was also made clear. Our goal is to educate, register and mobilize over 500,000 of today s youth as one voice. We plan to use this election as a way to get our fans engaged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. 2000 Us Presidential Election Essay Introduction The US Presidential Election of 2000 featured George W. Bush and Al Gore. It will go down in history as one of the most closest electionsВЎВ¦ in US history. It also goes down as one of the most controversial. The final decision was based on just a few hundred votes in Florida. The controversy began when the media prematurely declared the winner twice based solely on exit polls. They finally conceded that the Florida count was just too close to predict. It would take a month before the election was ultimately certified after numerous court challenges and vote recounts. Republican candidate George W. Bushwas declared the winner of the FloridaВЎВ¦s 25 electoral votes. This was a victory by a razor thin margin of popular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As in the past, the media was covering the all important election. They had always relied on exit polls as the polls closed across the nation. In reality, the Florida results were just too close to call. Nevertheless, that did not stop the media from doing so. Not once, but twice, major news media outlets were erroneous in their report. Around 8pm, it was declared that Al Gore was the projected winner of the electoral votes in the state of Florida. However, a couple of hours later, the projection was retracted and restated as Florida as being too close to call. Then, just after 2am on November 8, the mistake was made for a second time. The major networks declared George W. as the winner. This even led to Al Gore calling the Governor to concede. However, as Gore prepared to address his supporters in Nashville, Tennessee, he was alert to the shrinking numbers in BushВЎВ¦s lead. The final total was now less than one half of a percent lead in favor of Bush. That immediately calls for a recount of votes under state law. Subsequently, Gore called Bush and retracted his concession. It wasnВЎВ¦t over yet! One thing was, Al Gore had prevailed in the popular vote but without FloridaВЎВ¦s tally, the electoral vote was up in the air. The election wasnВЎВ¦t over and the recounts began. Dispute The results of the November 7, 2000 election were unknown for more than a month after the election. The endless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Google s Failure in China Global Marketing Google s failure in China TABLE OF CONTENT Table of content2 Abstract3 Critical Analysis3 The key issues and the lessons5 Conclusion6 References7 Abstract It has been 9 years since Google entered China Market officially, and 5 years since Google established Google China. Despite having a brand value of an amazing $66.4 billion, Google.cn still fails to dominate the search engine market in mainland China and faces stiff competition from bitter rival Baidu. In other words, Baidu s market share in China is nearly 75 percent to Google China s 25 percent. The secret to Baidu s success and Google s failure is largely positioning. Chinese authorities blocked Google ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence, Baidu.com is easier to remember than Google.cn. Inability to control sensitive content. The Great Firewall is extremely sensitive when it comes to pornography contents. The reason of blocking Google International is that netizens in China can search pornography images via Google Images when the default setting of SafeSearch is off. In contrast, Baidu has a strong filter to sieve out any unsuitable content that displeasure the Chinese government. As a result, it s almost impossible to search any sensitive content on Baidu. Google failed because government would not care about its position when all of us have to face the laws. In China, consumers rely on blogs and other user generated consumer reporting when deciding what to buy, mainly because they trust word of mouth much more than any blatant advertising campaign. So it should come as no surprise that they re also very active participants, leaving more than twice the amount of comments their peers elsewhere post. The key issues and the lessons China is a complicated market, more so with the media industry. The Chinese government retains far more control over media, the press, and the internet than any other economy at a similarly developed level. Chinese internet users do not like to type, perhaps due to the fact that Mandarin has many thousands of characters. They navigate almost entirely by using the mouse. This may look cluttered and disorderly to an American, but it makes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Use Of Nigger The use of the term nigger can be used as a amicable greeting between two blacks, or as a hideous pejorative (Marriott 94) towards blacks. Marriott notes that the use of nigger is usually condoned and used by younger blacks as a term of endearment (98), in hopes to gradually alter the meaning of the word. Their goal is to normalize the usage of nigger between blacks to dull its edge whenever whites use it (Marriott 95). This has been proved somewhat efficient, as most whites dread the word and express feelings of disgust whenever it is heard from the mouth of whites. Many younger blacks believe their efforts are stimulating a progression in society, but older blacks and the majority of whites assert just the opposite it illustrates anything ... • 7. Compare And Contrast To Kill A Mockingbird And The Silver... Many books and stories demonstrate the maturing of children by experiencing what life beyond childhood is and how that affects their relationships and behavior. The stories To Kill a Mockingbird and the Silver Star best show the effect of growing up through experiencing the realities of life. To Kill a Mockingbird shows the maturity of a young girl named Scout who lives during the Great Depressionwhen her father takes the job of defending a black man. Even though The Silver Star does not take place during the depression it still shows the maturity of two girls (Liz and Bean) when they become involved in a major court case in their new, small town. A comparison of the two books shows how the ideas of children are affected by the people around... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although, they have this ideology, the Silver Star and To Killa Mockingbird have two different themes. The Silver Star shows a theme of courage and what it involves. It demonstrates the theme when Bean and her sister stand up to a powerful mill owner: Maddox. The story also uses symbolism to express the theme with the Silver Star, a medal that Bean s father had earned. It is used in the title to represent the courage that the girls had to face throughout the book. The story shows what Bean thought a Silver Star that her father received from war represented and thought that her sister had deserved the star because of the bravery that she showed. In chapter 56 of the book, it states, I felt no right to earn it (the silver star). Liz certainly had, not just for everything she d gone through but for protecting me. This shows the bravery that Bean thought towards her sister and how it expresses the theme. The story To Kill a Mockingbird, although, shows a theme that expresses innocents. This is expressed in the book when a black man is put on trial for crimes that he did not commit, but was at court because of the racism from the town. It also shows innocence with a character, Arthur Radley that the town feared for rumors based on him, but were later proven false during the book. This shows that the character was innocent, but people still feared him. The story, like the Silver Star, uses symbolism through the title: To Kill a Mockingbird, in the story to portray the theme. The novel states, Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit em, but remember it s a sin to kill a Mockingbird. This shows how something that is innocent like a Mockingbird should not be killed. The themes that the two novels depict, show the maturity of the characters in the story and what they learn throughout the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are a range of simple and composite indicators used to measure development. There are many definitions of development, perhaps the most used is; Development refers to a number of characteristics such as demographic change, economic growth, an increase in the case of resources, modernisation, higher levels of technology and political freedom. These types of countries are not necessarily not developed , they just have different customs, cultural differences or they could be nomadic (farming based) or an indigenous population, as described above. Maps of the globe are produced to show levels of world development based on three key features; wealth, social advantage and deprivation. An imaginary line can be seen around the world which separates the developed countries and the non developed countries. This line is called the Brandt line. It is a modern day method of measuring development. It basically separates countries based on how economically stable a country is, how technologically advanced it is, how democratic and how modern a country is. The line shows most developed countries to the north and west, whereas the least developed countries to the south and east. As with every theory, there are exceptions. These being Australia and New Zealand, which are classed as developed countries. Other indicators of development that are being used today are the PQLI, which is the physical quality of life index. • 9. Existentialism In Antigone During the mid 20th century, French philosopher Jean Paul Sartre coined the phrase existence precedes essence . This is a central claim of existentialism. This philosophical theory stated that humans have no predetermined purpose and that any purpose your life has is given to it by you. Existentialism was a popular approach during and after World War II, which was when Anouilh wrote this version of Antigone, that led many people to abandon any belief in an ordered world. Although Jean Anouilh isn t an existentialist, in his play, Antigone, he writes Antigone as a character who shows many characteristics that fit with a few ideas of existentialismto represent the indifference of the universe to human concerns. The central idea of existentialism is that human beings define themselves. We are put into this world without a set path that we are supposed to follow. We must create our own ambitions and values. We have to find our own reason for living. Antigone values the innocence of untainted beauty and has a general love for life. We see this when she talks to the nurse about where she has been at the beginning of the play, in which she says It was beautiful. The whole world was grey when I went out... It s like a postcard (6). You can see here that she loves nature and the beauty of the world. • 11. Analysis Of Gaius Valerius Catullus s The Iliad The one main difference between the gods and mortals is that mortals can die, making it difficult for a man to become truly god like. Homer makes no mention of the afterlife in The Iliad, meaning that the only true way for a mortal to live on is through the remembrance of their life on earth. Many strive for immortality, but to achieve it, one must obtain Kleos, the glory a man receives in war. If a hero like Achillesor Hectorwere mentioned to someone today, chances are, the person would know who the hero was. This is how immortality through Kleos works. When the poet Gaius Valerius Catullus describes how he wishes for his poems to last for many generations, even when he has long since passed, he is explaining that, through his poetry,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of the promise of Kleos, a warrior is willing to risk everything he has, including his life, to fight in battle. When Hector makes a visit to Troy, he visits his wife and son. His wife tries to convince him to stay behind and not return, because if he does, he will die in battle. Hector knows this, but says he is willing to risk his life to obtain the glory he and the rest of Troy deserve (Fagles, 6. 510 555.) There are 255 named deaths in The Iliad (Laura Jenkinson.) This statistic shows the extremity of the fighting. Achilles, Diomedes, Hector, and Patroclus are the top killers in the epic. These are, furthermore, four of the more commonly recognized names when someone mentions The Iliad today. This correlates with the idea that those who kill more people are more likely to achieve Kleos and be remembered. As a quantitative way of tracking how many people a warrior killed on the battle field, he can take the armor from the man he killed and use it as a trophy. After Patroclus death, an argument arises about who gets his armor, which is actually Achilles armor. Euphorbus claimed he was the one who actually killed Patroclus so he deserves the prize, but Menelaus would not have it. Menelaus killed Euphorbus, which resulted in all the Trojans being scared of facing Menelaus to fight for the armor, with the exception of Hector. Hector succeeded in getting Patroclus armor, by showing fearlessness and willingness to fight for it (Fagles, 17.1 140). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Comparing Why The Geese Shrieked And Yentl The Yeshiva Boy Nobody ever said life is easy. In fact, it s really about proving you can face challenges. This is evident in Isaac Bashevis Singer s short stories Why the Geese Shrieked and Yentl the Yeshiva Boy . Although The Mother, Yentl, and Hadass, the female characters of these stories, live in different places during different times, they all face challenges of gender. The situations that these characters encounter are quite different, at least on the outside. Mother is a rationalist and the wife of a mystic rabbi. She suggests that there must be a logical explanation for this sound because slaughtered geese don t shriek but her husband thinks there must be some supernatural explanation as to why they are making this noise. African culture is always abused by a large array of different people. Africa is essential to the making of popular culture, black culture, and new religious systems with fused roots. Africa is also essential to the imagery of a modern nation. The result of Africa being a contest icon is a struggle between white intellectuals, black leaders, popular and elite culture, conformity and protest, and political ideas developed in the west and their reinterpretation in Latin America to claim it. A Brazilian system of race relations creates a uniquely Brazilian Africa that hold both protest and conformation. In Brazil, areas like the state of Bahia and the region around the city of Salvador have maintained African Traits in its black culture. In Bahia, a debate between modern sociologist and anthropologist took place. This debate discussed whether or not black culture originated in the 1930 s and if contemporary black culture should be read as the survival of black culture or a creative adaptation to racism. They first talk about how the language isn t getting told to the younger children in most areas. There are many people who talk about the information of knowing that many Lakotas don t know how to speak there language. That is why they started to have the immersion schools. It is a very good thing that they are having the schools, so that the language does not die off. They wantit to keep going on for generations and generations. The entire documentary just shows that the people of South and North Dakota needto keep trying to learn their language so that it doesn t die. That the white men can get their way. In the documentary I liked many different components. I liked how they used elders to talk about the language, then the adults, than teens and lastly how they have the little kids talking in their Native language. When the elders are talking in their language, it makes not only me feel connected to the language but I think everyone in our class felt the same way. When the adults are talking about not having known their language it makes me feel that even though I don t know my language right now, but one day I will know my language. I will teach my kids the language that died in my family. Then I look at the teens who I just was not very long ago. I know exactly what they were feeling or how they ... Then is the auxiliary army. This kind of army is not unlike the previous one, it is an army that is not proper and eventually ends up putting the principality in a situation of debt with the principality that the army belongs to. The principality lost its military independence and is tied at the mercy of another principality. Additionally, he describes, the own army that is the best army a principality could take and is the most recommended by Machiavelli, for the simple reason that they are the only ones who are entirely loyal to the princeand they are the most reliable. It is very difficult for a prince to be betrayed by his own army. This is the army that you can trust battle, as they are trained according to your commands. This is the kind of ideal army for a principality, new or acquired by inheritance. Finally, he talks about the mixed army which is the mix of its own army and one assistant. I loved going to the theaters as a kid because the entire experience was always so exciting, especially since it was the first thing my mother let me do out on my own. Going to the movies had always been a blessing but as I have grown I have made an effort to go less often. While the experience is still the same I just notice just how bad the overall experience can be as well. Honestly, the best part of watching a movie in theaters is the movie theater experience; for example the seats, the popcorn, the large screen, the sound system, the people, and the new releases. It is not just you in your room watching a movie, it is you reacting to the film and to the people around you around you as well, all the while getting all these over the top elements as well. Movie going takes a common experience and amplifies it so it feels like you re getting something even greater. Plus, my favorite part for any film has always been the trailers; the exciting bits and pieces of coming films thrown together to entice future visits. With fast paced action and cliffhanging details that are thrown in the 2 3 minute time frame, I am left wanting to come back and see that movie when it comes out. His father s death occurs in the early 1940s, where oppression and racism were still fairly prevalent in many cities across the nation. As an undergraduate student, majoring in biology, preparing for his thesis dissertation on mollusks, Piaget additionally strived to develop a biological theory of knowledge, which is known today as his theory of genetic epistemology. Through his work, he concluded that logic is inherent in action and that the roots of logic are therefore to be found in the organization of action (Brainerd, 1996, p 191). This discovery became the basis of one of his many hypotheses, stating that even the most complex forms of human reasoning are motor activities carried out on a symbolic plane. Piaget s first clinical interaction with children began after his graduation, when he took a job working at Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon s laboratory, in a Parisian elementary school. His assigned job was translating a standardized reasoning test, created by Cyril Burt, from English to French (Brainerd, 1996). They argue that the International Criminal Court has a worthy purpose, but still has issues that need to be addressed before the United States would join the court. Schaefer and Groves explain the Article 98 Agreement and the American Service Member Protection Act. Also their argument contains the five concerns the Bush Administration had about joining the ICC, but the two major concerns regard the fear of political abuse of power and also the threat to national sovereignty. In contrast, Michael P. Scharf believes the United Statesdecision was unjustifiable. He argues, the conference in Rome attempted to compromise; however, the United States was not satisfied with the modifications. What makes the refusal unjustifiable is because the United States did not want be subjected to prosecutions and they did not want to take responsibility for their actions. Schaefer and Groves argument contains facts. As an example, the International Criminal Courtdoes not have a clear definition of what the crime of aggression is and has yet to define the crimes it claims jurisdiction over (p. 152). State owned enterprises are regarded as a particular circumstance of business organisations and considered as the basis of economic growth in many countries (Zhang, 2011). It can be seen that the proportion of state owned companies has increased from nine percent in 2005 to 23 percent in 2014 especially in China which has a proportion of 15 percent in 2014 (PwC, 2015). Furthermore, state owned companies might be a necessary tool for development in emerging countries, because they can be directed and achieved by governments. Although state owned companies have played an important role in an economy, they sometimes seem to perform poorly compared with private sectors on average in many countries, partly because the goals of public policy sometimes are complicated to be achieved (World Bank Group, 2014). Therefore, many countries have decided to privatise because they have expected that private sectors would operate and perform better than the governmentwould do. Thus, privatisation has become an international phenomenon globally particularly in addressing inefficiency from state enterprises. However, there might have some benefits and drawbacks of privatisations, but all of the procedures are most likely to depend on the quality of contracts and regulation in each circumstance. • 38. The Uses Of Tissue And Skin The use of fibroblasts in skin substitutes is a crucial step toward better burn wound healing. Fibroblasts, which are naturally found in the dermis layer, are in charge of synthesizing and secreting the components that make up the extracellular matrix. In order for the skin to heal properly, one component that is especially important is collagen, for it plays a major part in the structure of the skin. Lack of collagen synthesis during healing can lead to raised scar, resulting in poor skin function and appearance[18]. TransCyte is a temporary, bioactive synthetic covering with a similar structure to Biobrane, with an addition of fibroblasts. Like Biobrane, it is also used as covering for burn patients before autografting or for patients with partial thickness burns who do not require autografts[11][12]. TransCyte consists of two layers, a silicone outer layer and an inner nylon mesh seeded with fibroblasts. The outer silicone layer is a semipermeable membrane, containing a series of laser punched holes that allow excess fluids to be drained[13]. The inner nylon mesh membrane is coated with porcine collagen peptides, creating the base onto where the neonatal fibroblasts can be cultured, since collagen is a main component of the skin. In order to seed the fibroblasts within the nylon mesh, the entire membrane, silicone outer layer included, was placed inside a specially designed bioreactor. This bioreactor provided a continuous, constant flow of fibroblasts at a rate of about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The Time Period Of The Cold War The time period of the Cold War was a breeding ground for ideological change. It was an era filled with fear and paranoia, not simply of the unknown, but of neighbours, friends, and family. World War II, the atomic bomb, the Cold War, made it hard for Americans to continue their optimism historian Stephen Ambrose commented. This paradigm shift is evident in the texts from the era, and by studying them we come to understand the values and atmosphere of the time and the effect those values had on the texts. The Cold Warbegan after the end of World War II, after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States of America; that continued until the early 90s with the dissolving of the Soviet Union. The two sides of the Cold War were the Western Bloc and Eastern Bloc, which are terms given to the alliances formed by the USA and NATO; and the USSR and the Warsaw Pact respectively. Feudalism had positive bearings because it was the solution for decentralized government and lack of protection but also held people back due to lack of social mobility. The Age of Faith is most accurate for describing the Middle Ages because of the political, social and economic influence the church held. Feudalism was still not providing one united central government but instead many small ones and so the church gained a governmental authority over Western Europe. People were all working to try to get into Heaven, and because of that there was a lot of control over telling people what to do. The church could excommunicate people and even Kings if they felt that they were refusing to comply (OI). This gave the church power over the Kings because they controlled who would not be allowed to return to the church; if someone were excommunicated they would not be able to reach Heaven. At the time the bible was written in Latin, which only could be read to the common people by a clergy member who could explain what was written. With the reliance on the church the pope s words and explanations were taken as God s. When I attended the play, I had a fantastic learning experience, and noticed several connections to the texts that we study in the course. To begin with, the scenery of the play wasn t traditional by any means. Rather than this being a common stage with a large crowd, this was a black box theatre play. Basically, the stage was in the middle of the room and the audience surrounded the performers. The room was about the size of an average high school classroom, which made the play more personal. In fact, the actors would interact with the crowd at times throughout the play. Next, when I first entered the room, I sensed a smooth vibe from the way the room looked.
