An Improvisational Model of Change Management:The Case of Groupware Technologies
Abstract
In this paper, we present an alternative way of thinking about technological change in
organizations. This alternative approach is motivated by a recognition that traditional models for
managing technological change - in which the major steps of the change are defined in advance
and the organization then strives to implement these changes as planned in a specified period of
time - are not particularly useful given the more turbulent, flexible, and uncertain organizational
situations that many companies face today. Traditional models are also not particularly useful for
helping the implementation of technologies such as groupware whose unprecedented, open-
ended, and context-specific nature make it difficult to predefine the exact changes to be realized
and to predict their likely organizational impact.
We suggest an alternative model of managing technological change, one that reflects the
dynamic and variable nature of contemporary organizations and technologies, and which
accommodates iterative experimentation, use, and learning over time. We label such a model of
managing technological change "improvisational," and suggest that it may enable organizations
to take advantage of the evolving capabilities, emerging practices, and unanticipa.
This document discusses the challenges driving increased automation and digitalization in the oil and gas industry. It identifies four main challenges: 1) Increasingly complex operations, 2) Zero tolerance for health, safety, and environmental incidents, 3) A growing talent and experience gap, and 4) A growing data overflow. It argues that oil and gas companies need to adopt practices from data-intensive industries to become more agile and able to leverage digital technologies. The winners will be data-driven and agile corporations that can use automation and analytics to address their biggest challenges and continuously improve.

Achieving Cost Optimization via IT IntegrationOnur Tamur
IT-enabled manufacturing systems are highly valued in current business world because of the benefits they provide in process optimization and cost reduction and these systems are increasing their dominance in the industrial markets thanks to the continuous technological improvements in IT sector. Even though automation systems require high amount of capital investment, they usually pay back in a short period of time depending on the values enabled to their users. Thus, major firms are eager to adopt automated systems in their manufacturing facilities to able to benefit from these opportunities and guarantee steady growth.
This study is started by the case study of Sel Hoses in collaboration with Tampere University of Technology. Sel Hoses is a Turkish hose manufacturer that is one of the biggest suppliers of industrial hoses to European markets and recognized as a high quality and low cost manufacturer. The industry is eager to adopt automated cutting process in their manufacturing plants to lower labour costs and optimize the cutting process by lowering the waste of hoses and Sel Hoses will play a key role in this implementation if they launch the barcode system on their hose reels. Thus, the objective of this research is understand the waste reduction opportunities in hose cutting process by using PC controlled systems and how this project can be undertaken by following a hand-on approach within the value network to increase the overall value generated by the major project stakeholders.
The paper gives an insight into different theories that are applied to understand the cost dynamics of the industry and evaluate the investment decision in terms of the beneficial return. The above mentioned theories combined with extensive brainstorming with industry leaders provide managers a helpful tool to evaluate the long term growth potential of the industry and follow a collaborative strategy to bring value to the whole business network. Hence, this research attempts to identify the waste reduction possibilities in hose cutting process by using automated systems which will lead to lower material costs and process optimization.

In the context of regional development, there is increasing interest in identifying industrial transformation processes that lead to the emergence of new clusters. This demand is further fu-elled by the concept of Smart Specialisation (S3), which concentrates its approach on transformative activities. Without doubt, traditional cluster mapping can be considered to be an important tool for the identification and monitoring of (existing) clusters but it often fails to identify new clusters that emerge as a result of industrial transformation processes. Conventional statistical approaches provide limited information about these emerging clusters. This is because they are based on statistics, which reflect the present situation or the recent past but do not provide information about the future. This paper introduces a new approach to predicting emerging clusters more effectively through the regional mapping and clustering of applied R&D activities. The methodology is based on the assumption that if a critical mass of regional actors independently invests in a same new area, with the objective of developing new products, technologies and services with high cross-sectoral innovation potential, this will likely lead to an emerging industry and the formation of a new cluster-once these products and technologies are successfully commercialised. The paper successfully verifies this approach by considering e-mobility cluster development in Germany. It also shows where traditional automotive clusters are transforming and becoming e-mobility clusters .

This document discusses using Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to analyze the economic impact of lead time in production processes for a capital goods company. VSM is a tool that maps the entire production process to identify waste and inefficiencies that increase lead time. The study uses VSM to examine a large Brazilian capital goods company with long lead times partly due to importing raw materials. It finds the company's cycle efficiency index is consistent with literature values, indicating potential for lead time and cost reductions through eliminating non-value-added activities.

The document discusses the fundamentals of third generation science park concepts. It notes that existing structures like institutions and corporations are not well adapted to rapid changes and unpredictability. Third generation science parks (3GSP) aim to address this by focusing on ecosystem dynamics and quality of interactions between stakeholders. 3GSP provide both physical and virtual platforms according to a "pull" philosophy, as opposed to traditional science parks which focus on established companies and rely more on hierarchies and a "push" approach. The document also briefly discusses a 2009 report on future knowledge ecosystems and science and technology parks.

Empirical Study: Moroccan Information systems specificities for better IT Gov...INFOGAIN PUBLICATION
The spread of information systems (IS) use has become an essential criterion for judging today's overall development level of a country and its attractiveness for capital and investment. Many international rankings evaluate the performance of different countries at this level. And Morocco occupies a disappointing position compared to its potential. Paradoxically, Morocco is lagging behind, although in the telecom sector, it is ahead of many developing countries, Thus, in 2015, the index NRI (Networked Readiness Index), measuring the preparation of an economy to make effective use of new information technologies (IT) published by the World Economic Forum, ranks Morocco in the 87th place. Indeed, with the exception of large companies that have implemented a set of tools to automate the process, a large number of SMEs and SMIs are very late as far as IT use is concerned. It means that IS in Morocco is still unable to achieve business perspectives for benefits and processes optimization. The aim of this article is to understand the particularities of Moroccan IS to understand the week points to correct in order to govern well enterprise Information technologies.

- The document discusses the importance of global ICT specifications and standards in enabling innovation and growth. It argues that recognizing specifications from international standards bodies and consortia in the European system is important.
- Key proposals in the EU's legal package on standardization include provisions to recognize important ICT specifications developed outside of European standards organizations, as long as certain criteria are met. This would help public policies and procurement reference and rely on important global specifications.
- The speaker expresses support for the EU proposals and argues they achieve the right balance of recognizing important global ICT work while maintaining the European system.
1) Industry standards for security systems and protocols have evolved from proprietary approaches to more open standards-based systems to allow for greater interoperability and access to data.
2) While open standards provide benefits, they also introduce new security risks as systems become more interconnected and accessible. Most industries are still working to balance functionality, access, and security.
3) Developing an effective long-term security philosophy requires understanding the tradeoffs between technology, standards, industry practices, and organizational needs over time. Security strategies must adapt to changing technical and business conditions.

It finds the company's cycle efficiency index is consistent with literature values, indicating potential for lead time and cost reductions through eliminating non-value-added activities.

The Fundamentals of Third Generation Science Park ConceptIlkka Kakko

"The process of creating something like Urban Mill is a novel example of the public -‐ private partnership. The orchestrating initiator and driver taking also an operative risk of succeeding is a private company Järvelin Design Oy, and other main stakeholders involved are
Aalto University, City of Espoo and RYM Oy (an industrial RDI consortium of urban development). This kind of setup has proved to be a dynamic foundation for the initiative and could be applied as a leading principle also in other contexts."

Speech on EU legal package on standardisation - OFE Breakfast Briefing hosted...Jochen Friedrich

The document provides background information on the conditions in Egypt prior to the January 25th, 2011 revolution. It discusses the economic, social, and political circumstances, noting that while the economy was improving and social indicators showed development, there were still major issues of inequality, corruption, lack of political freedom, and human rights abuses. The revolution was sparked by these underlying tensions and grievances among the population, especially the youth. As protests grew larger, the government response was seen as inadequate, leading to calls for President Mubarak's resignation, which he submitted on February 11th, ending his 30-year rule.

Working with data is a challenge for many organizations. Nonprofits in particular may need to collect and analyze sensitive, incomplete, and/or biased historical data about people. In this talk, Dr. Cori Faklaris of UNC Charlotte provides an overview of current AI capabilities and weaknesses to consider when integrating current AI technologies into the data workflow. The talk is organized around three takeaways: (1) For better or sometimes worse, AI provides you with “infinite interns.” (2) Give people permission & guardrails to learn what works with these “interns” and what doesn’t. (3) Create a roadmap for adding in more AI to assist nonprofit work, along with strategies for bias mitigation.

Combined Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Vessel List.Christina Parmionova
The best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool for a wide variety of stakeholders to better understand and combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, the following regional organisations maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas and/or species of competence:
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)
Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM)
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC)
Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO)
North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC)
South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO)
South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO)
Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)
Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC)
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all these sources into one list that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel is currently IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example because of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are also retained on the site, so that the site contains a full historic record of IUU listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on individual RFMO websites, which may update vessel details infrequently or not at all, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership, location, and operations.

17. Business process design is a basic concern while executing overall ERP structures in MNCs. Passing
on an overall ERP system as a gadget to energize control and coordination across finished
assistants requires essential gages for business strategies and data structure. Along these lines, an
anomalous condition of process standardization is among the basic drivers of ERP mix attempts in
MNCs.
Accomplishing an overall concurrence on shared process and data gages has exhibited hard to
achieve. The days of national and regional slants are gone and that there is a union in shared
trademark, in fact business frames transversely finished MNC reinforcements are unmistakable
due to grouped assortment in national culture, lingo, organization style, administrative issues,
